    I don’t understand why so many people sleep on “I Me Mine.” It’s so damn good. I think you need to see some of these live, which you can do by watching the “Get Back” documentary. ‘Abbey Road’ was the last album they recorded but this was the last album released (because they were waiting on the Let It Be documentary to be finished to release simultaneously.) But I fully agree with you about "Across the Universe", "I Me Mine", "Let It Be", "I've Got a Feeling" and "Long and Winding Road" - all of them are great songs. LIB is not one of the Beatles' top albums, but it has a nice down-to-earth feel about it, plus a couple of truly magnificent tracks: "Across the Universe" and "Let It Be".

I’d rank ‘Two of Us’ higher than you and ‘I Me Mine’ lower, but otherwise pretty much track with your thoughts. Hopefully you’ll watch The Beatles rooftop concert scene from Get Back-well worth it!

      @Zholobov1 11 месяцев назад

      I don't think Naked is better. It has some great alternatives, but it looks like Phil Spector was mostly right when choosing the takes he put on his 1970 Let It Be. The whole project was out of control, so one can't really judge what could be the best desigion for those tracks in terms of sequencing and production.

    • @Ellis2003
      @Ellis2003 11 месяцев назад

      @@Zholobov1 the out of control nature of it is definitely true, but I personally just prefer the more stripped back production on the ‘Naked’ version, either way they both lack the cohesion of the bands better albums

    • @Zholobov1
      @Zholobov1 11 месяцев назад

      @@Ellis2003 you see, such songs as the title one, have to be "dressed" in the arrangements anyway. After "Let It Be" (the song) came into the scene, it became obvious for Paul that the sloppy bass part, played by John, needed to be redone, and that the guitar solo must have been reworked and also some backing vocals were needed. That’s when the initial attitude to the project changed. We can say that it was that song alone which broke the original idea after all. Maybe they shouldn't have put it on the album at all, leaving for a single release only. But it was also a commercial desigion, no doubt. And after they "dressed up" "Let It Be", they went further in dressing up "The Long And Winding Road", "Across The Universe" and "I Me Mine". Was that a reasonable move? Who knows... For "Across The Universe" I personally choose the Naked version, and when thinking about "Let It Be", I'm in for the Spector's take, but as for the rest... I'm not that certain. The initial intent to make an "honest" album failed in the process, because those are songs themselves which dictate the right treatment sometimes.

    Best Beatles album hard, and I would probably have to distinguish between best and favorite. I think their best album, and coincidentally, my favorite would be Revolver. Revolver was so groundbreaking, and they were at the peak of their group cohesion. Starting with Sgt Pepper, Lennon started becoming less committed. I would put Abbey Road as 2nd best. 2nd favorite, as in the next ones I play most, would be a tie between Abbey Road and their first album, Please Please Me

    Andre, you mention that there's only three tracks you'll revisit. Given that Let It Be is clearly one of them, obviously from your reaction, that means two from my favourite three on this album: I've Got a Feeling, The Long and Winding Road, and Across the Universe. Which one are you not wanting to go back on, 'cos I recommend them all for further listening
    You then went on to note that the real last album made by them was the vastly superior Abbey Rd. The fact that they ended with The End is almost perfect...
    ...except that they made it truly perfect by not taking themselves too seriously with such a massive statement, but instead finished with a touch of gentle humour in Her Majesty. Just the IDEAL way to wrap up for the greatest band ever.

One of the very first questions I asked was how do you know a good song from a bad one on first listen. I'm one of many who need to listen 4-5 times before the tune sets in. But tonight, at 14:35 I would love to know how fast and in how many directions your obviously better brain than mine works? I mean, when I'm trying to grasp a likeable melody on first listen, you're already catching the intricacies of the base, the harmonies, the mixing, and in this case the drums. I'm in awe of you, mate. You've tonight cheered me up from last night's losing the final in the football match of the Euros.

      @@rjisasavage You are a generous man to be so self-deprecating, but I still think your talent is a rare and special one. As I'm sure you would have already figured, my chances of being a radio station's musical director are roughly zero. I once worked on a side-project thing on Fri morns at a couple of sister radio stations, and I was in equal awe at how quickly they'd make up their minds on each and every song the reps presented them with.
      On a different note, I was just this last weekend listening for the first time in eons to Dylan's masterpiece double album, Blonde on Blonde. Is there any chance you could listen to and review the absolute standout track, and IMO his best song ever - indeed if it weren't for the existence of Hey Jude and Waterloo Sunset, it might be the best song ever - Visions of Johanna? Okay, his vocals will never match those of Lionel Ritchie or Robert Plant, but the melody and lyrics of this song are magnificent. The opening line alone could be the best first words sung on record, and the penultimate line of the second verse, the one starting with 'The ghost of...' is IMO the most haunting line ever in song, no exaggeration even if some might think I've over-egged the pudding by saying so.

  • @bodsnvimto
    @bodsnvimto Год назад

    My thoughts as we went through the album (leaving aside the snippets) -
    Two of us - not a classic but a catchy singalong still well worthy of the best band in the world.
    Dig a Pony - Not well-liked, even by very many Beatles fans. Therefore I presume it's a guilty pleasure of mine.I love the lines "I roll a stony, well you can imitate anyone you want": a direct and accurate jab at their closest rivals
    Across the Universe - BEAUTIFUL, even with/despite of Spector's dabbling.
    I Me Mine - Well, it's George. Occasionally he came up with a belter - Here Comes the Sun, Long Long Long, but not here.
    Let it Be - Great song, beautiful, wonderful, but one of those (like John's wonderful Imagine) that I've heard waaay too many times to still enjoy as much as I once did.
    I've Got a Feeling - the last true Lennon/McCartney composition, and easily my favourite track on this LP.
    One After 909 - released on their last (ahem!) released (sorry to repeat myself there) album but written when they were kids and long before they became the Fab Four. It shows and it explains the gap between composition and dragging back out. I think that this is one of their worst ever songs.
    The Long and Winding Road - Classic, gorgeous, simply sublime...but better still without Spector, in its Naked form.
    For You Blue - See above about George.
    Get Back - A rollick, a good-time song, a very enjoyable song, but not what I'd call a classic, and I think it's one of Macca's weaker vocal deliveries. It did come across better still on the rooftop, mind.
    Andre, thank you as always good man for the joy of your reactions. Sorry about Magical Mystery Tour being taken down, was it a general thing or your inclusion of the previously banned Strawberry Fields? If it's the latter, can you get around it somehow? And have you ever considered a retrospective musing over my favourite Beatles album, Sgt Pepper?
    btw - apropos of nothing whatsoever, I'm in a particularly good mood tonight because the best day of the year for me is happening in small part past the end of our street tomorrow. The Bolton/UK IronMan passes us three times on the cycling leg. I'll be out ALL DAY LONG, cheering and shouting 'em on. I reckon anyone prepared to dive into a lake at 6am to swim 2.4m, then do 112m on a bike, and finish it with a marathon deserves every bit of support (not to mention credit as a super-humanbeing) that they can get.

      One last thought when rereading what I said. As many times as I've heard Let it Be and Imagine, I've heard Hey Jude many more times still, and that track remains my favourite ever song by anyone, full stop.

    Ranking the best to worst
    1. Rubber Soul
    2. Sgt. Pepper
    3. Revolver
    4. Magical Mystery Tour
    5. Help
    6. Abbey Road
    7. White album
    8. A Hard Day’s Night
    9. Let it Be
    10. Please Please Me
    11. With the Beatles
    12. Beatles for Sale
    Not counting Yellow submarine
    From 1-8 is just about pure perfection. It gets a bit rocky with the last four. I definetly think Abbey Road is overrated. The a side is perfect, but the b side is… just not that memorable. Also I never find myself listening to With the Beatles or Beatles for sale

      you really have to listen to Rubber Soul. Thats their folky period but they went already a bit creative with the sitar in one song that would lead to the experimental Revolver

    This is definitely not their best album, and was recorded before Abbey Road. This is the only Beatles album produced by Phil Spector, and Paul did not like what he did with it. In 2003, Paul remade the album as "Let It Be... Naked", which rearranges the tracklist and removes ALL of Spector's contributions, mostly the orchestral stuff, since this was a back to basics album. I think you should check it out, on camera or not. This version's title track does have a better guitar solo though.
    My ranking of their albums would probably go (from worst to best, excluding Yellow Submarine)
    12. Beatles For Sale
    11. With The Beatles
    10. Please Please Me
    9. Help!
    8. Let It Be
    7. A Hard Day's Night
    6. Magical Mystery Tour
    5. Abbey Road
    4. Sgt. Peppers
    3. The White Album
    2. Rubber Soul
    1. Revolver
    Also, if you don't mind, I'd like to recommend an artist for you to react to named Jack Stauber. If you were to start anywhere, I'd recommend his album Pop Food. He also doesn't do copyright claims, so RUclips viewers can watch it! I think you'd like his stuff a lot.
    Looking forward to more content!

      For me, The Beatles were a catchy pop band with super-snappy singles, and the odd stunning album track, such as You've Got to Hide Your Love Away and their very firstLP song, I saw Her Standing There...until the release of Rubber Soul, at which point they shot up in my estimation to becoming providers of unequalled musical art and excellence. Personally, my favourite album is Pepper, though I find Revolver more consistently brilliant, and thinking back to the old vinyl on which I got used to them, Abbey Rd stands head and shoulders as the best side 2 ever, ever, EVER! Given that this was *really* their last album, I think the last two tracks would have been the perfect way to bow out: The sincere and deep message of The End...then a gap, and Her Majesty, thus pulling the rug from under their own feet with a jokey ditty and taking any potential risk of seeming pomposity out of the equation. I must admit, mind, that as much as I love the White Album, when it comes to double discs, I have to put Dylan's magnificent Blonde on Blonde ahead of it. Him after going electric and prior to his motorcycle accident, and The Kinks in the late '60s (Village Green Preservation Society and Arthur) are the only acts to break into The Beatles grip on my absolute favourite music.

    You decide this is the lesser album by The Beatles??? Are you crazy? Two of Us, Let It Be, Across the Universe, I Me Mine, Get Back, Long and Winding Road, I’ve Got A Feeling - absolute masterpieces every one of them. A true Beatles fan would not be able to pick a best - they are ALL awesome. Even the songs few people “like” have filled my heart and warmed my home so many times I lost count.
