    The motto of #BillionaireNinjas is “Talk is Cheap, Ninjas Leap.”
    .
    Here we're discussing a difficult topic, saying goodbye to the MSR which I love but just doesn't fit my playstyle anymore which has matured past "ooh pretty ship" to "let's focus on our endgame". The 600i with it's upcoming rework will simply outclass the MSR in the multi-role gameplay I want and still remain solo-able. It's been real Mercury... I'll see you in the 'verse.
    .
    We'll let you know our thoughts as of Live 3.22 In the "My Fleet Choices and Why" Series we keep it simple. I talk about why I chose to purchase or upgrade a ship over another for my org or personal fleet. I also discuss why I chose each individual ship in detail. For less in-depth analysis and more "Just show me the ships" make sure you're subscribed so you can checkout our "Walk that Ship!" playlist.

    The thing that killed the MSR for me are the crawlways... it's so pointless and gimmicky. They could remove that crap, lower the cargo a bit, put most of the modules in the big nothing that is the turret and scanning chair rooms, put stairs instead of an elevator... It would also be slimmer so no need to make it maneuver like a fat slug. All problem solved...

    • @billionaireninjas

      I think I'll wait to see smuggling before I comment about the crawlspaces. However, I will say they could have put the components in the crawlspace and saved a lot of space topside for other things while also giving that space a purpose for existing. I actually got that idea from Algared from the inforunners. Go check them out!

    I also have the 600i EX for its own purposes for multicrew expeditions, the Mercury I grabbed for the dual ability to transport both physical cargo & electronic cargo (data running) in the same ship. The looks and such are great, but it was the large capacity for data running I preferred - and why I keep it.
    With the future of large components and the engineering gameplay mechanic, it will be interesting to see the impact on skeleton crew operations.

    I picked up the 600i after they announced the rework. If i remember correctly based on the initially proposed changes the vehicle elevator may be big enough to fit a nova tank. So it should be able to hold a fair bit of cargo when that goes live.

      @billionaireninjas  8 месяцев назад

      Yes confirmed it will fit a Nova Tank! I talk about that in the video! It also will receive more cargo they just didn't confirm how much. My guess in-between 80-120 scu for the final amount.

    Solid points, you bring up all the problems I have with the MSR. However, I'm still keeping it as a daily driver after using the 600i for a while. Mainly because they don't do the same job. The MSR (to me) is a better and more fun ship to fly. It can't do combat, but way more fun doing bunker missions and ROC mining in. It also does it way faster because it's way more nimble. Yes the doors are anoying sometimes, but so are the slow elevators in the 600i.
    Also, for now the 600i is terrible for bounty hunting since it can't take larger crates. So much lost income, I would rather buy a Connie or Corsair on the side.
    That said, I may change my mind post reword, but for now, too overpriced for it's worth and fun factor. Although, I do love the captain's bed on the 600i 😮

    What you are circling as "Shield Pool" is the Hull HP. The 600i actually has among the highest total Shield Capacities in the Game. It comes standard with 2x 100,000HP shields...the same ones on the hammerhead. THe carrack and A2 have a smidge more by default at 110,000 x2, the Reclaimer has quite a bit more at 3x 100,000, and the 890J dwarfs them all with 2x 745,000 HP shields.. But unless I am missing something, 600i is not 12th best shields... it's like 5th Best Shields!

    If they just stayed true to the MSR's original concept design, this ship would be something else! It should be a one level ship just like the Spirit C1 and A1, they've added stilts which raised the ship by 1/2 a deck and for a gameplay which does not exist.

  • @SgtRauksauff
    @SgtRauksauff 8 месяцев назад +1

    What I really liked about the 600i when it was ship-of-the-month awhile back, was the three pilot-controlled size5 guns, and the range at which the 600i could get bounties. And because the shields were huge, you could roll, up, park, and lumber around like a big space walrus and get the bounty. Haven't flown it in current patch, so I'm not sure how it plays anymore. But, you can have four size5 guns on the Corsair, AND an additional pair of size4.
    Don't get me wrong, I do like the 600i and where it should sit, but not enough to trade in the MSR for it. For me, I think it comes down to personality, and the fact that the MSR has a cool one, and a unique look to match; The 600i, for being an Origin ship, kinda seems on par with a bowl of cold oatmeal, or maybe some cardboard shavings on dry toast. It just seems very very generic for who the manufacturer is. You get the captain's quarters (very cool) maybe a glass floor, and everything else is currently mediocre. Sort of how a lot of Cadillacs were just a rebranded Chevy. Front fenders, hood ornament, and tail lights don't quite make them better even with the imitation leather seats and plastic woodgrain paneling on the dash.
    Probably a main reason why they're doing the redesign, I think that CIG realized that it doesn't follow the design language of Origin and really needs to change it to fit between the 890J and 400i.
    It'll be interesting to see how ship size affects Jump Points too; if 600i is big enough to require a Large jump point, that's going to affect intersystem travel as well.

    • @billionaireninjas
      @billionaireninjas  8 месяцев назад

      Lmao this legitimately made me laugh! Thanks for that bowl of cold oatmeal part. I totally respect keeping the MSR as I said you can't go wrong with either. I think the rework will make a lot of people upgrade. Great point about the size and how it will go through jump points. My response to that, it will fit the same jump points as the carrack at the very least which is everyone's favorite. My question to you is are you into data running or are you into the looks of the ship? I didn't see you talk about the use of the MSR.

    • @SgtRauksauff
      @SgtRauksauff 8 месяцев назад +1

      @@billionaireninjas I do like the looks of the MSR for sure. I am looking forward to datarunning though, especially once real exploration gets implemented, and other potential of the game is realized.
      Someone surveys a previously unknown system, and they want to get that data back to the UEE for registration before someone else does. Maybe an expansion on Xenothreat with fleet movements, maybe tied into groundfighting with troop and armor division locations, etc. Maybe corporate warfare and keeping scientific/economoc development projects out of the airwaves using encrypted short-range transmissions only, to protect the investors. There can be a lot of different things to do, but I think it's going to be much more dependent on CIG to implement them than just postulating about it in chat with orgmates.
      Most of the time these days, I'm running around in a Pisces Rescue between bunkers if I'm doing FPS stuff, and sometimes will jump in the MSR with some friends and ground vehicles inside. MSR isn't quite the daily driver anymore, but it's not completely mothballed, either.

  • @mabutoo
    @mabutoo 8 месяцев назад +2

    That was a compelling position argument. I like the look of my MSR but without the data running gameplay it is a cargo hauler and multicrew fighter. It just gets outclassed by other ships in those realms.

    I also recently upgraded my MSR but I upgraded it to a Liberator. I think the issue with the MSR is first that the whole vent thing was a neat idea but honestly should have been scrapped in production it just doesn't make sense and makes the ship far more bulky than it needs to be. Second big issue with the MSR is that it has too much of a split focus while also not being a generalist. Right like it is in a weird halfway point between focusing on cargo and data running which means its going to be less capable at either of those roles than a ship that is solely focused on either one. That would also be ok if it wasn't actually focused on either and had more of generalist tool kit like the Constellation Andromeda or Cutlass Black but it's just not even a general purpose ship which makes it really awkward in it's use case. I hope they eventually come out with a more generalist or even combat focused version of the MSR that might be worth taking another look at but with the current state of the game the MSR just doesn't make sense.

    Looks like my comment keeps getting deleted by some RUclips system, so I'll try one more time. Okay a lot of you clearly didn't pickup on the hidden update at CitizenCon. The MSR and the Drake Herald are both data runners. Too many people are thinking that gameloop is going to just be 'go to station a, download digital cargo, go to station b, sell digital cargo.' That's not all we're getting, and they told us it won't be in a fun way that it seems only people excited for this loop caught. We are getting crafting. That crafting involves Blueprints that must be protected. These Blueprints can be for anything from an arc light sidearm to a Polaris. But they are a physical, tangible piece of data that can be held, traded, and stored away. And the data runners I listed above both have an extra seat that is specifically for a "wirelessly pirating that data away" loop that allows these ships to "acquire without permission" data.
    You all go ahead and upgrade your MSR to a 600i. I'll wait for my data modules.

    • @billionaireninjas

      Oh I understand you. What I was saying in the video is I wasn't excited to be a data runner because of the gameplay. I was only excited because I like the MSR. For people who are genuinely excited for data running gameplay I definitely suggest keeping the MSR.

    I have the MSR - I have the Cutlass Black.
    I started with an Aurora MR - realised it wasn't for me got the upgrade to a Cutlass black and there's been many ships since but it's the Black that is my forever personal home. I will fly the CXR to get the random rescue because it's rewarding gameplay even if it's not profitable and comes with risk.
    The game has so much scope to actually be all to everyone but that is a fine line. Will I get attacked on sight in the CXR in Pyro, will the ship have enough fuel to be worth using considering the distances involved. Would a Cutlass Red be better but it's a bigger target.
    I can do box missions in a Constellation Andromeda - not fun but it can be done. That's an even bigger target but the boxes will get to their destination with good turret pilots.
    I fought off a PvP attack while flying the C8X simply by turning towards and strafing while shooting on target. Pre MM however I don't think it would have made a difference. I think it was more shock that the aggressor flew away plus lack of cargo space to begin with.
    Star Citizen is the first multiplayer game that makes me not want to mine or do any industry simply because it's not going to give me the same rush that I can get from EvE Online. After building ammo, drones and missiles to frigates and cruisers all the way up to a regular supply of capital ships and PvE Ishtars that people still can't fit and fly properly that was a heck of a journey but Star Citizen isn't going to offer that type of industry which is fine - as long as it provides other opportunities for positive player interaction with good scenery and ease of communication.

    I like the idea of the rework, but I get the feeling it's going to need a few more people or AI (as per the Orgin automation benefits in the brochures) to get the most out of it in the future.
    I ended up going down for my daily from the MSR. I love the Crusader aesthetic. I've found the C1 is just right for most loops.
    However for general versatility (and in advance, I don't want to be one of those guys), honestly the Corsair has been the best all-around package for me.
    It can solo ERTs in a few seconds with deadbolts or AD5s, and has enough space to take a good amount of cargo. I've made 12mil on lucky spawns. It also has enough space for either a Storm or an Ursa.
    I find myself swapping between the C1 and Corsair depending on how much combat I think I'll find myself in.

    Melted my MSR long time ago - too many doors and unsued (crawl)space - although I admit it is a cool ship. Instead I got a Conny Phoenix - all the benefits of a Conny + nice interior and the best windows for looking at the verse. Land at some outpost and watch the sunrise over Daymar from your comfy chair - just great. Only downside is the hefty price tag.
    As for the 600i. Absolutley love the shape that ship, and it certainly has the best owners cabin. So I am very intersted in the rework. But I am also a bit concerned. While the interior of the 600i Touring looks really great, it has no useful "features" and no vehicle garage at all, massivly limiting gameplay options. The 600i Explorer on the other hand seems to get all the features (Garage, storage, medbay, armory), but will most likely loose the luxury aspect. Let's wait and see, but I do not expect the the rework in 2024.
    I still have my 400i (LTI) in buyback, with a CCU chain to 600i in hangar. If they get the reowrk right, I will be there to upgrade. But I will wait until the rework is actually in the game before I make my decission. I just hope they get the windows right.

The touring is only for people who want to do luxury VIP passenger gameplay. The Phoenix is a great ship though, I respect the wait for the rework. Glad you have the CCU so you don't have to pay the extra price when it inevitably goes up.

      @@billionaireninjas The Captains cabin on the 600i has a great view, although it is blocked a bit to the sides. But the rear window feels a bit too high to get a good view of your surrondings. Still, if they keep all the promised features of the rework, I am quite sure I will end up with a 600i.
      I also think that 99% of the players with a 600i will go for the Explorer version. Just so much more practical, and it even includes the ground vehicle.

We had a LOT of fun with the Scorpius, Andromeda, Redeemer, and heck even the Freelancer Dur lol.. But man then it happened, we ran across a Valkyrie and Hurricane, and what happened was they absolutely destroyed us.. at through our shields and soft-deathed us into a spiral toward the ground where we exploded in what seemed like 1/2 a second it was a joke how weak the MSR felt after just running those previous ships I mentioned. I know every ship is up for re-balance, and one day the MSR might be great? idk.. that moment stuck with me, and kind of put a bad taste in my mouth that the MSR is too much about speed, and too weak to actually do much of anything against other ships. They honestly should rework the MSR. There's too many usability problems with it. It's not even about the concept or the "unusable" crawlspace to me, it's about how chaotic it is... It needs a center hallway so that you can lock people from accessing the servers, it needs an access elevator (it already has an elevator that is completely useless, why doesn't it reach the ground outside like the C2's), it needs a ramp that levels the cargo area with the main deck so that you don't have to jump every time (i'm sure nobody uses the elevator) and it needs more or better pilot controlled guns. It's bigger than the C1 but has the same amount of guns yet you need 3 people to fire them?? Also the components can't be taken out of their slots because they don't fit through the doors xD
    I would be surprised if CIG weren't already thinking about reworking it or even in the process of it.

It already technically requires multi-crew, I think those numbers will stay roughly the same though, the med bed may take it from crew size 2-5 to crew size 2-6. The things it is adding make it more useful but not more difficult to upkeep. I am so looking forward to ai blades and npc crew though because at this point basically some people are saying they will be almost useless and I do not see that being the case.

    I own both a MSR and 600i but no way would I say the 600i makes the MSR redundant. This is because the main selling point of the MSR, for me, is that it's speed means I don't have to fight so shields and firepower are irrelevant.
    I actually melted my 400i to get the 600i because the MSRs superior cargo carrying makes the 400i redundant.
    The 600i as it stands is not that useful to me with all its wasted space and useless cargo capacity but I am excited by the reworked version that not only fits a Nova Tank but also has a secondary cargo bay to carry cargo while the elevator is carrying a vehicle.
