Leaving Star Citizen due to Bad Customer Service

  • In this video I explain my absence and why I am making the final decision to leave this project behind.
    CORRECTION The Dates were November 26th and 27th of 2023. I owned the correct corsair pledge unmelted on the 27th when the prize paint and poster were to be distributed. 3 of the 4 prizes had shown up in game so it seemed there was a bug with the reward corsair paint not being usable. To test it and to check out the new paint I melted the original corsair and used the credit for the Best In Show version of the which included the new paint, me having the intention of melting that back down once the reward had been fixed.

    You want to be top tier of Concierge??? $40,000+? Was that a goal for you? I think you need to rethink your priorities. The collection is digital and eventually maybe 15 years from now maybe 30 years from now, Star Citizen will be long past its prime and you won't have access to them after it closes.

      @@SummerYeti Just because you have the right to spend your money how you see fit doesn't mean you are excluded from critisism when you publicly broadcast what you are spending your money on. Especially when you are going for something like concierge in a game like Star Citizen.
      In my opinion, you are throwing thousands of dollars down the shitter that will never truly be appreciated for what you spent and are encouraging shitty MACRO transactions. But you do you boo.

      @@marshallSGM no, he spent 17k on various ships and such. He 'melted' a specific ship before an award went out to him for owning the ship (to melt a ship, in a nutshell, is basically refunding it for store credit with the option to buy it back later with credit or real $ again). Because he did melt it before he got the reward, support wont give him the reward, as the 'requirement' is to have the ship in your account, not melted. Their award process has been known to be bugged and take forever in some instances. Sometimes a fix goes out weeks later to give the missing reward, etc. He should have just sat on the ship until it got sorted out.

      Not at all, had the reward been issued when the other 3 were there would be no issue. I thought the corsair reward had been issued when I melted the corsair. I had the right ship on the right day but melted it a little too early in part to test a bug which is what we are here for. I mean we pay them to test, where is the respect we deserve and the benefit of the doubt?

    You're standing up for yourself after spending 17k usd in a totally broken tech demo that's still not functioning after 12 years of coping. Maybe that's the root cause you should be looking into instead of focusing on paints. You speak like a teenager that was dumbed by his first girlfriend. Sell your account on grey market and play real video games.

    Randomly stumbled on that vid. I understand you being unhappy due to you missing the standalone paint. I don't agree that you were mistreated by CIG support as there was no rule you get any paint by having the ship 27th. The statement was that the distribution wave 1 will start 27th, and you melted the ship before the distribution wave reached your account for the corsair specifically. Even more, having a BIS variant would make you non eligible for a second paint anyway ( and that was a rule stated in the announcement). I'm not saying CIG could not have made an exception for you, it is just that they had no obligation to do so. Also I understand you still can have the paint wit the bis version you have.

      Incorrect, the rule said nothing about waves it only said that you had to have the right ship on the right day. So to be honest your comment proves my point about misleading rules. The help desk has 0 understand about it all and THAT is the real issue. We should be treated better

      Ps, meant to add that I never intended to own the corsair that has the bis stuff, did not want my resources tied up in that one but you skipped the point. It's about the exclusive reward, also that you could still use the paint and poster if all you have is an ingame purchased ship.

Why isn't that taken into account when determining if prizes like this one should be withheld due to reasons of confusion and conflicting rules? No benefit of the doubt at all even considering we keep the lights on... it's disgusting

      Another point... are we not meant to be testing all of this anyway? A little benefit of the doubt is due there as well considering I thought there might have been a bug with the reward not showing in game. It's punishment for doing what they ask us to do.

      Thats exavtly what i thought. He played that stupid melting game and lost. Now he quits SC (which is in alpha btw) and leaves his massive investment behind because of a free paint and a poster gimmick he didn't get because he was so impatient to melt.
      The textbook example of: play stupid games, win stupid prizes.

    You played right into the formula. They got as much money out of you as they could before you got upset, and now they have your money, and you have digital assets in their game with no worth anywhere else. That's their business model, and you played your part. How did you not see that coming?

    I got the 325a and when the missiles did not work and the color scheme inside did not change to what I put in the store as an option I reached out to customer service they completely blew me off and said it is not their issue. When you spend money on something and there is an issue with a product it is a customer service issue…

      Except you agreed when you paid that you weren’t actually purchasing anything. You were pledging money in support of Chris Robert’s dream. The ship you got was just a thank you perk. They make no claims about how that ship will perform on game or if it will even continue to exist in the game.

    I somehow have the skin you are talking about, I never did anything to get it either outside of just having the ship. Either way, as someone who has played the game for like 10 years at this point, it's a scam. They haven't finished a single ship yet, not even the first two ships they made. They are the worst game devs, why would you expect anything different. Honestly, it sounds like it's your own fault, and a really weird thing to moan about when basic ship functions still are not implemented in the game among a bunch of other things. Think about it like this, you can just mod the stupid skin into your game after the fact. You dont need to buy any ships because you can just mod them into you inventory. They havent finished SQ42( a completely offline version) for fucks sake. I've been at 70% of the way to Space Marshal since 2019.....stop giving them money, it's a scam.

      That's one way to see it, but you are mistaken. There has to be some flexibility with regards to mistakes, going both ways. We fund the game. We support it as testers. Yet we are not given benefit of the doubt

For instance I completed Xenothreat and it took a month before I got my reward armor credited and I only got it because I took a screenshot of my completed questline.

    I went back and read tbrough the Spectrum and RSI official posts and there is at least one reference to paints rolling out starting sometime in IAE, and another posrmt saying different rewards would be rolled out on two different dates, one towards the beginning of IAE and one after IAE concluded. While they absolutely could have been more clear, tbere is nothing in official releases and posts that supports your side of this particular issue enough to grant you the free rewards. Could they have gone above and beyond to reward you the items (which DID cost money actually, a whole ass Corsair's worth in fact), sure, but they had no obligation to do so and stand to lose face to pledgers who got their unique collector skins waiting the appropriate amount of time before melting tbeir previously CCUd Corsairs or keeping their BIS edition Ships whose rewards are tied to the ship, not the account. Maybe im misinterpretting or misunderstanding something about the situation, but from what i could tell based on your story and the posts on RSI and Spectrum, CIG customer service has not mistreated you (officially in their ruling at least, no clue how tbeir tone or language was to you). Instead you have made a series of mistakes misinterpretting how these rewards work as well as why they exist like tbey do. Sorry if this post feels like i am piling on, if you wanna talk in depth about it on discord or something and talk about specific points in depth id be down to get to the bottom of this with you and add my voice as a customer to support your cause if applicable. Hope you continue to enjoy the game anyway. o7

      @@blaqbastion1501 thanks. I try to be thorough. It does always kinda blow that CIG, especially through Marketting, gives so many vagueries or spreads the actual information out between what ammounts to 2 different websites, a store page and a social forum, and often multiple different posts on each at that. It makes it somewhat understandable when some customers, like in this video, seem to have so much difficulty following or interpretting CIG messaging. The customer (in my experience) is more often wrong than not, and i think its the same in this case from what i can tell, but CIG has put even more bariers than is usual between customers understanding vs their actual intended messaging compared to most companies with similar promotional events and rewards.

    CIG was blocking my IP for months because they made a mistake but wouldn't acknowledge it. Once I had my ISP change my IP, the game worked instantly. CIG fucks around

    you made the mistake by melting your ship before you had the paint in your account before you melted it to get the Ver that had it in the ship with the poster. I did something like this as well but I'm not crying about it and quitting the game over a paint that was free and you did get the paint with the new ship you picked up.

    The real problem is, when you rebought the corsair that comes with the skin the skin is tied to the ship and not a solo item in your account. Skins should ALWAYS be solo items, it makes no sense to melt a ship and lose the skin. But if you melted your ship before cig put the reward skin in your account, that is honestly your fault, you played yourself.

      Maybe maybe not, there is room for debate. That's the real issue here though, after backing the project a misunderstanding like this should be granted benefit of the doubt, not doing so is a total disrespect to the pledging we have done. After all I'm not demanding something that I can't prove I did earn per the written rules. Also why did I not get a supervisor when I requested one? A lot went wrong and there is no one at CIG to turn to about it

    I’ve made mistakes in the ccu game as well. Now I can’t melt the carrack I paid too much for without loosing a sick helmet and tshirt- which are the things that I actually wanted. Oh well. I’m an idiot.
    We know that they don’t make exceptions when it comes to adjusting things in our hangar so it’s on us to make sure everything is square. I don’t see this as a benefit of the doubt situation.

    Just sell on the grey market and walk away man. Agonizing over a video game isn't worth it. Recover as much as you can, and move on. Chalk it up as a lesson learned. Choose a hobby in which you can feel respected, be productive, and contribute to your community. Trust me, the sooner you move on, away from a toxic company/community/lifestyle the better your life will be!

    So basically 30 year old pays 17k for in game assets and throws a tantrum when he feels we cheated out of a poster with zero current in game use. Proceeds to vent to RUclips about it and inform the world that losing out on an in game poster due to your own mistake was enough to make you quit the game you spent 17k on. This is not a good look man. Doesn’t even matter if you’re in the right here.

    yeah its a limited skin but hell i have missed 3 or so skins over the years most of the best in show skins look dumb. but talking to them and then saying its their fault isnt a good way to get the skin. hi customer service, i was just looking to see about this skins and if anything changed for this year. i didnt seem to receive any reward for it and wondered it i did something wrong. thank you for your time.

    Bottom line is you should not have melted the Corsair until you were absolutely rewarded. You screwed up. I would never trust them to give me something based on having owned a ship at a certain time. That said, do what you need to do to feel best you can in a terrible situation. I wish it had gone better for you. I wish they had just given you the paint and it's too bad they didn't. Personally, I wouldn't walk away from the positive experiences over a paint & 'bad' customer service.

    I agree Customer Support at CIG is pure garbage. I've had numerous bad experiences with them because YES they give zero fucks about your problem. I have learned contacting them is a waist of time and best and humiliation at its worst. But yeah... In your case regardless of who was right or wrong over any miscommunication or rules you still tried to game the system and because of that you share fault in this rather or not you want to admit it or not. You have gone full Karen outrage over a skin that you missed out on and will let it be the end to a game you love? I wonder how old you are and if you're married? or if you will ever be married for more than a year? Would you throw away a relationship in RL over something so petty? The entitlement you are feeling is not healthy and I hope this will turn into a positive life lesson for you thou it was a negative experience. It may save something like a marriage someday.

    I think standing on your principles is important and if you did quality for this skin it is upto customer support to do the right thing. At GrieferNET we understand more than most that customer support and moderation can be extremely difficult to work with especially when they are not communicative and understanding.     I understand your point of view, it may be about something trivial but the main things are your principles and feeling mistreated.
    If you still care about the project and the community then the only thing you have to do is to "suck it up and get over it".
    I don't mean to belittle your issue but what do you gain from walking away? standing up for your self and sticking by your principles?... having the feeling you have been mistreated stays the same and you loose something you care about.
    Sure, there are situations where walking away is the only thing you can do but you have to choose your battles, I think with this one you just have to take one for the team (sticking with the project and community) and get over it.

    I once bought a £30 subscription for Azlatam armour sets, instead I got the next sub flair which was crappy paints for the 100i which I don’t even own. The help desk did not care. I hadn’t applied them and explained the situation but they didn’t care so I’ve got 3 useless ship skins I didn’t want and paid for. Hello from HH btw :)

    meh, i would personally not send a ticket for taking a gamble. but cig is notorious for two things. extremely poor communication around events and most stuff and getting release years wrong. if this is the stone to break your back i feel like a lot of stones got thrown before.

    Assuming everything you said in your video is 100% correct and that there isn't some key piece of information missing, you unfortunately are in the wrong. Not trying to be rude here, not trying to "stick it to you" or anything. With all sympathy, you are in the wrong 100%. The rules were pretty clear for everyone I know and I am a part of some of the largest Star Citizen Discords. No one got "burned" by CIG like you did because no one chose to melt before they should have.
    I get that you interpreted the rules differently. I believe that you thought you were in the clear. But others didn't have that issue. If the rules were as unclear as you claim, then there would have been an uproar from the community over it, and there wasn't.
    You chose to take the risk and you got burned. Trying to pin it on CIG CS is pretty crappy in this case.
    And CIG CS has been pretty clear for a couple of years now that they cannot make exceptions for people anymore. They have been very clear on that matter. So I cannot blame the CS for not making an exception for someone who made the wrong decision.
    If this would have been CIG's fault (like the attribution didn't work right like how the spectrum badges for Arena Commander weren't working), then that is a different story. But as others have stated, you were not eligible either of the required times for the BIS package. As even you pointed out, they have logs for everything and their logs showed you saying "I don't want this anymore".
    Again, I want to emphasis that this post wasn't me trying to rub it in your face or anything. I really do sympathize.

    Only read title, but thats dumb, leaving a game you love cause one random person is a dick or in a bad mood. Dont lwt one person ruin your love for a game that hasn't even released yet. Or achieved its peak....they dont represent everybody.

    I think is a scamm the whole game . They only make new ships whit incomplete features . And the predatory way to acces new ship and areas tu buy only after you expent thousands of dolars . This game to start with shoud be rated for 21 plus because is a casino whit ships . And you can get 3d models of the ship put them in unreal engine 5 and make a gane just follow tutorials and chat gpt and in few moths and free get a game

    I would simply suck it up.
    I was looking to get the F7A MKII, however due to my throat tumor, I was hospitalized for pretty much the entire duration of the event, I contacted CIG about it and well they told me its something to do with how the F7A Upgrade works as a token ingame, but fairly certain they're able to add said item, anywho, course they said no! But.. oh well~
    In your case its merely a BiS Paint, look, paints are nice.. but are they really worth all this fus? I understand your discontent with customer support, its usually hit or miss depending on whom is handling your case, which does reflect badly on them, however.. this BiS thing is predominantly your fault, you never melt the BiS ship prior to receiving the paint in question, because it becomes a lottery game if you'll even receive it if you BB on that date and since you BB'd the BiS package, it means you already HAD the BiS Paint. It's long been known that you cannot receive two of them, its been that way since the beginning if I remember correctly.

      But the point isn't the skin, it's that he's put so much time and money into a game that doesn't value it's customers, players, especially because the majority, if not all of their money comes from the fan base, the fact they are kinda screwing him over is what the big deal is. Hold MY beer

      CGI is no different, the entire Company exists for the sole purpose of soaking up large sums of money to fund the endless imaginings of a man Microsoft didn't even like working with, 24 years ago....
      Chris Roberts was ordered to "scale back the ambition and scope" of a similar product `Freelancer`, due to time, budget, and hardware constraints of the era.

      @@SummerYeti supporting them financially for so long is the first mistake. They proved so many times that they can't release what they sold during the KS phase. Due to all that financial support they are now a big studio with no publisher to slap them when they go out of line and crap like this is the result.
