Bulbmin aren't as useless as you say! They're immune to all four hazards.

It's also a clever way to replenish your pikmin supply while underground. While bulbmin won't leave the subterranean areas, you can use bulbmin at the colored flowers to turn them into pikmin that you *can* take with you.
Kinda wished he touched on their encyclopedia entry too. They’re actually parasitic Pikmin that have burrowed into and taken over the bodies of baby Bulborbs. I mean, how twisted is that?

Bulbmin are immune to anything the normal Pikmin are immune to and they only appear if you have a certain amount of space in your group. They essentially function as the "you lost several things and/or you don't have the thing you need, so take these" aspect to the game. If you're lacking in numbers, or having problem with a specific hazard, then they appear so that you can keep going through the cave without having to stop and restart it. This also the reason they can't follow you out, since they are unnecessary outside of caves.

@@dnta602 Yes and no. The Water Wraith dungeon is actually impossible without Bulbmin. Since it has all the hazards, but you can only take Blues inside. So it's also a bit of a challenge enabler. They're stupidly strong but they have the crux of never leaving the cave you found them in without converting them to Purple or White.
@@aaronwishard7093 It's not impossible to beat without Bulbmin, just considerably harder. You can easily time your whistles to prevent your Blues from crossing through an Electric Current.
Also, it's called the Submerged Castle.
@@bluepikman7851 Call it by the official title if you want. It's the Water Wraith dungeon for a reason. Since that's the gimmick. Just like the last dungeon in Pikmin 3, with how I call it, is just the Plasm Wraith boss fight. Yes it has an official name for the area. But you could literally call it "Springfield Bonanza" or some other nonsensical word phrase and the dungeon itself doesn't change the gimmick of what it is. And sure, you say you can do it without bulbmin. I say you can't. That's a player preference as well.
Kirby’s had that Metroid attached to his head for who knows how long now. I deeply worry for him-

@@cosmicdunsparce That's only because in Dream Land's atmosphere metroids are exceptional weak and small. As a metroid's appearance and size is dependent on atmospheric composition. For reference, Kirby is about 10 inches, a metroid is about 4 feet based on Samus who is a bit over 6 feet.
It's a baby metroid that has imprinted on Kirby ;)

Honestly I prefer Pikmin 2 for the caves, the day timer and balancing growing pikmin vs collecting ship parts always stressed me out, while the caves operated like dungeons that had a difficulty spike in terms of tactics but not strategy and gave phat loot
Same here. The caves were my favourite part of the game and seeing their exclusion from Pikmin 3 really bummed me out
i find the caves to be extremely dull and repetitive
I like both, caves and no caves. The best thing about this series is how each one feels different
@@oliverparker425 that is definitely true, It would have been nice to see some properly made maps for each dungeon with a theme or something to tie them together. Interesting concept but bad execution. Regardless, I enjoyed my time with all of these games.
Same island why people hate on it cuz it was the harder game .caves kept it fresh and also gave a break from the timer .the thing is ,both are still in thr game .there are some days where u spend the day on the surface just collecting and stuff . Sure there's more caves but it's the fact that u get both a timed environment and a challenging environment too. Also the enemy are objectively better
The water wraith instills pure terror in anyone who faces it. It seriously raised my heart rate on a recent playthrough
Literally was playing yesterday and I didn't know that if u just run up and use ultra bitter spray that it still won't be attachable yet ,I had it against the wall and Literally lost 70 pikmin as he unfroze.. it's scary cuz he's fast and there's no 2nd chance when he starts rolling and no limit to who can die lol. In a game where most enemies can only kill like 1or 4 at a time after a few seconds, yea the water wealth is absolutely horrifying lol. I hate it

I personally really like how hard Pikmin 2 can get.
Not because I enjoy difficulty, but rather because it's actually rather fair given that there is no permanent way to lose in the game.
With unlimited days, you have unlimited time to retry over and over and over, and when you finally do succeed it just makes it all the more cathartic.
Falling rock traps are not fair

So this is actually my favorite Pikmin game just for the enemy variety. In addition to your typical bulborbs, snagrets and blowhogs, you get bugs that drop bombs from above, waddly sniper things, larva that shoots rocks that may or may not home on you, enemies that specifically target your captain, and of course, who could ever forget the terror that was wandering enemies. You'd just be wandering around, minding your own business, until you randomly see your pikmin count go down. You quickly swap to your other captain, only to see a GIANT BULBEAR munching on your reserves like it's a friday night buffet. You quickly take it down, and continue on. But what's that? There's a clear circle above the bulbear's corpse. and... is that a sliver? "Must be nothing", you say to yourself, and you swap back and keep doing what you were doing. Eventually, you need some of your reserves, so you swap back, only to find that that little circle above your enemy's corpse is now 3/4s full. Panicking, you rally your pikmin to it to try and carry it back, it moves agonizingly slowly. You see your pod, but it's almost fully healed. Just before you manage to get rid of it, it stands back up. The pikmin carrying it valiantly start attacking it, but they were no match for the bulbear. You rally the remainder of your force, hitting it with everything you got, begging for this beast to finally go down. After an intense fight, and a dozen more pikmin dead, the beast lets out it's final howl and falls, and you carry the beast's corpse to your pod to be rid of it once and for all...
yes, Pikmin 2 is my favorite. The combination of challenging and varied enemies and the clever, dungeon-like design of the caves was really fun to experience.
Honestly, if I had 1 complaint about Pikmin 3, it was the utter lack of enemy variety. Still had by far and away the best boss fights in the series though.

When I was in the Submerged Castle, I was always like "Hurry! Hurry!" before the Waterwraith would come. I was even ready to abandon treasure for the moment once the Waterwraith showed up.
It is usually best to just abandon treasure when it spawns and just make another pass through the hole.
Unfortunately for me i rush to this hole specifically for the pluckaphone. I still get my heart racing when going through it because i really don't want to deal with the water wraith.
Fun fact: The Bulbmin are actually bulborbs infected by a pikmin parasite, which takes over the bulborbs body and essentially kills it, then uses it for it's own benefit and survival. Have fun with that thought.

I had no idea until recently that the caves were a point of contention with people. I loved the surprises that each floor could bring, and while I never minded the time limit being there, I don’t mind it not being there either
