Sees video, thought of the cjszero01 review. Sees him in the comments. Bro I've been watching your videos since 2010. Pretty much the whole reason why I'm watching Antdude still. Thank you.
It's not underrated. Nor is it overlooked. It's in this wierd Gray area where it's not famous and it's not criminally overlooked. This leads it to not be talked about much. It just exists. It's something everyone knows about but nobody talks about for some reason. Like the goldilocks of recognition. The perfect amount of recognition to just not be talked about.
I actually recently replayed this one and you pretty much nailed exactly how I feel about it, complaints and all. It does hold up quite well still, and its soundtrack is one of my favorites. We need more.
Finally! Talking about my favorite game OF ALL TIME! I wish the PSP was more popular cuz if the remastered version of Ape Escape would've caught on they might still be making more today!

10:13 not to mention that in most of the less open ended levels like tic toc clock you have to do the same path over and over again when if the stage didint kick you out you could have grabbed all of the stars in one go.
Ape Escape is one of my all time favorite games. I love that you played Crumbling Castle in the background of the video, which is my favorite song of the game. Note on the minigames, as solo playing games, they are kind of meh, but in 2 player, they are a lot of fun, especially for people back then who didn't have many games to play. A (ski) racing game, a fighting game and an arcade shooter might not seem like a lot today, but back then it added a lot of variety.

I keep telling my friend that ape escape 2 is not that bad...he just really hates Jimmy. I prefer the first and 3rd game overall. Spike is the man and Yumi is best girl. The music in the 2nd game was not done by Soichi Terada so it lost some of that Ape Escape vibe for me.

Ok, I know this comment a year later doesn’t matter, but I’ve never watched Ant Dude before, and I’m subscribing already because no one ever talks about Ape Escape anymore and it is my all time favorite game ever. Thank you Ant Dude, and lets push to get that remake!
As someone who has never played an Ape Escape game (I know, shame on me), I think my favorite things about this game is that it (at least seems to) has the manic energy of a good saturday-morning cartoon.
You're perfectly right, it is fondly remembered by those who played it! C: This one and the two sequels were some of the most fun time I had with videogames in general! We need more games with a crazy tone like this, every game seem to be about conflict, despair, anguish---which ok, it's great to have but... I'd love more of this crazy and comedic games C": I think A Hat in Time is a great come back to that spirit but we need more! APE ESCAPE 4 PLEASE!
For those who are curious, the composer for Ape Escape's OST is Soichi Terada. If you've listened to some of his work around the release of this game, you can hear the similarities between his work and this game. For reference, check out his album Acid Face.
AntDude, do not deny Knack’s existence for it was a duo of games that were released(I know you were joking I just wanted to go all “Luke, I am your father” on the situation).
Ape Escape 1 was developed by internal development team at SCEI. Yoshida's group was splitted up into three teams. The Legend of Dragoon, Sarugechu (Ape Escape) and ICO. Ape Escape 2 and 3 were developed by a different team with some same staff from Ape Escape 1. EyeToy: Ape Escape was developed by a different team. H.a.n.d made the PSP remake of Ape Escape 1. Shift made Ape Academy and Ape Quest. Toshiyuki Yasui was the main planner who ended up to create Freedom Wars. 2001, Million Monkeys and Racing were made by epics.
Dude, how do you forget the boss fight with the massive ship on the tower? I think the clown counts too, then there's the Go Karts Jake and the final specter battle. Also mini fights with robots, a badass looking silver knight and monkey mechs
I don't know who your are, but you're mentioning my beautiful child Ape Escape and I love you for that. Gosh, I want a remaster of the trilogy. The costume mechanic from the 3rd one was so fun and the music was so great, and I never got to play the 2nd one. I neeeeeed this, Sony. I swear, if you release this, I'll get a PS4 - or a PS5 even. Just... just take my money, I don't need food.
God, I have VISCERAL memories of this game. It was one of the 2 games my older cousins got with their Playstation the Christmas it came out, and that summer, we played the living hell out of it. Good times
Ape Escape 3 is one my favorite games of all time, so I’d absolutely love if they made some kind of Recaptured Trilogy. I really hope they include PipoSaru Racing in it as a bonus, though.

I didn't own one either! Lol once I finally bought one years later, I got to experience actually moving around. Lol
I also loved how if you crouch, the music will change its tone.
That little attention to detail for the OST is really appreciated.
