For any moms out there on an ultra tight budget, just know that you can go SO minimal if you want, and that you can wait until after the baby comes to figure out what you want. Diaper bag- you can use a tote or regular backpack Changing table- you can change them on the bed, or you can use an attachment that comes with most pack n plays. Crib- you can use a pack n play and put it next to your bed as your substitute bassinet. Onsies- just get sleepers with double zippers for 0-3 unless it's summer then add some regular sleeveless onsies. Jammies 24/7 for the first 3 months 😂 Personally I liked a portable floor bassinet more than the lounger, safer for them to sleep in and easy to bring to other people's houses for naps. You don't have to buy any swings, bouncers, ect. Mobile- not super relevant until their eyesight gets stronger and honestly you can jerry rig one with index cards and household stuff. I know for me money was a real issue so i just want to share the assurance it's OKAY to keep things ultra simple.
Totally agree. I always joke that capitalism loves pregnant ladies. A lot of things here are nice to have, but not really needed. It’s fine to get the extras but I personally wouldn’t call this list minimal since it has a lot of luxuries. The double zip sleepers are totally the way to go. Best advice ever. My baby hardly wore anything but that until she was six months. It made life so much easier.
So true! I have a one month old and hes slept a whole two nights in the bassinet and now we’re bed sharing (I thing I swore I wouldn’t do) and he has been wearing the same 5 zippered PJs all month. Our changing tables are a dresser and the dinning room table. 😂
Hi Ashlyn! Love the choices you've made for Oliver 🩵 The one suggestion I would offer is that babies need bright sharp colors to stimulate brain function. In the first few months they have a bit of difficulty distinguishing muted colors. Please add more black & white, and bold primary colors for his play items and art. 🎨 (52yo old mom who raised my own child, several nieces and nephews, and babysat 6mo + from middle school until I had my own at 22)
I do not have children and this maybe completely unrelated. But I love how much work goes into your videos. Setup, quality and editing are on point! You can really see how much you love to film and edit. ❤
Things have changed so much since I had my kids. We didn't have all these bells and whistles. No sound machine or monitors. And we just used a receiving blanket to swaddle our babies. Our babies went straight to a crib. No changing tables. Or diaper genie. We laid a soft towel in our tub. Laid the baby down, ran a tiny bit of water, then bathed the baby. We used our regular towels and wash rags. Or we did an old fashioned kitchen sink bath. Lol. Our babies survived just fine. We boiled glass bottles in a pot on the stove. No big ticket items. Usually our cribs were passed down. Or thrifted. All these new conveniences are great. But, 95% are definitely not necessary. New mothers have plenty of time to feel things out and get anything they may need. A newborn needs very few things. I couldn't tell you how many young Mom's I know tell me they didn't use half the items they received or bought. So much wasted money. I'd suggest not falling into social media pushing all these expensive items. New or secondhand. You just don't need them. My opinion. Blessings to you and your family.
So happy to see your joyful glow. Being a Mom is such a gift. I’m so thankful for your baby boy blessings. Your baby room is beautiful! Hope we get to see baby.
You have such beautiful design choices. I love the colours and really love the clot and dresser. I am a granny so my advice may not be current, but I think having about 4 cot sheets is good. We know there’s one in the crib and one in the wash…. But babies can mess up a sheet with one exploding diaper or good puke. Babies can also get sick with gastro etc, it’s nice to have a couple of spare sheets just in case xx
My kids are 30 and 33. I received so many "must haves" I didn't use or care for however, the dishwasher basket is a top go to me and everyone I knew and every new mom/grandma to this day. ENJOY the little guy
As a breastfeeding mom, I would definitely suggest having silverets for healing. They saved me so much in those first few weeks. Most things are easy to get quickly if you need them down the road so I wouldn't stress, but it's definitely good to have the essentials and things you will want right after birth.
Congratulations on your new baby boy! I would definitely suggest getting a lot more of your regular size crib sheet more of those. As a baby gets older, they throw up in the middle of the night, or have a big blowout. My suggestion is have way more crib sheets than you think you will need.🩵
I’ve been waiting and hoping for this video! Yes, I would love an update to see your essentials and which sleep swaddles and suits baby preferred. My baby girl is due in September and I’m working hard trying to find things second hand. Hearing your success with finding things gives me hope!
Love all that you have collected, it’s a practical well-rounded collection and I hope little Oliver loves it all! One major suggestion that you may have already picked up on by now - get 2 or 3 extra covers for your Snuggle Me lounger! Both my babies soiled their loungers almost every day so those extra covers were life savers!!
Absolutely love our electric nail file!Definitely get yourself the medela harmony manual hand pump if you’re breastfeeding!! It’s super helpful when you’re feeling engorged and want to create a little supply before transitioning to half bottle/breastfeeding
When you're making the sleep space make it mattress protector, sheet, mattress protector, sheet. Then you can just whip off the soiled top layers and worry about it later!
I’m not against second hand for babies, especially clothing that barely get used before they’re too small… but I would not buy a used mattress. Would you, an adult, buy someone’s old mattress? (Same with shoes.)
My midwife recommended to have the smallest possible package of pre-mixes formula at home, mostly just for peace of mind. This helped me a lot, my baby only got a few drops of it, but those really helped cool him down when he was upset on day 3 when brestfeeding was stressful and so later just knowingnI have it made me more calm, so I can also recommend it.
First of all, congratulations and second of all, thank you for sharing this content because I'm also in the middle of getting everything ready for baby and I don't know where to even start.
I would love to know how to make a minimalost baby wardrobe. What is just right amount for all the essentials... i was given way too many clothes and would love to cut back on some but not sure how many of each item is necessary
Hi Ashlynne, Christopher and Oliver! 👋🏻 This video was so fun and helpful. I’m excited to be attending a baby shower for a family at the end of May. Baby girl was a surprise and a miracle story all in one so we’re all just so excited! Anyway yes, an update to this video would be great!
Hi Ashlynne! My husband and I are having a baby boy due in November and have a similar theme to you! This is super helpful especially since we want to keep things semi-minimal as well!!!☺️🩵
The palette 🎨 pop toy is so cute and the first book of houseplants is awesome. Enjoy every stage of your baby. Seriously before you know it, they're grown. 😢
Hi ashlynne- your little one has such caring parents, and the items are so nice. Just some ideas, I'm not in the USA, but what about toys from love Avery. I've seen videos where this brand is great quality, and they send toys for your child age. I think the age they go to is 2. Another idea is buying a variety of outfits in different sizes so as baby grows, there is some you have and just buy what you need. I'd love to see an update video ❤
I believe she’s in Canada and she did have some things from LoveAvery that she showed. She does have some different sizes of clothing that she showed in an earlier video. You are so right. Oliver is going to be so loved. Have a great week!
Since you haven’t bought one yet, consider NOT buying a high chair. Instead, bet one that straps to a chair and has a tray with a tray liner. We spent $$$ for a high chair that ended up taking up lots of room. The chair attaching ones are cheap, clean soooo easy, and take no floor space. When the girls got older, we stopped using the tray and it acted as a booster seat for at the table. LOVED IT.
I remember seeing pictures how new parents did minimalism back in the 20th century compared to today's product-palooza of baby items. Baby slept in a dresser drawer that was removed and a blanket to soften the bottom. No bassinet was needed. No such thing as multiple sleeping apparatuses, no pack 'n play, no electronic bouncy platform or special multiple pads for the floor. 1 stroller. Toys were minimal in quantity, no more than 1 or 2 stuffed animals, books were borrowed from the library on an as-needed basis. Wardrobe was no more than 8 outfits at a time, mostly sleepers. Cloth diapers were used for burp cloths, as well as a bib and of course for diapering baby. Simple bath items, no special towels, 2 blankets. 1/4 or less the amount of items most parents amass now. Amazing how mankind survived and thrived all those decades ago. :)
Can you make a minimalist video to share? This one stressed me out it’s so capitalist surely it’s possible to be a mommy without spending this amount of money?
Everything I bought is really wonderful. Like you, I am waiting for a new baby, but there is no way I will find in my country the wonderful things you have, and this is really a sad thing. Anyway, it's okay, what matters is that I give birth to my baby in good health and in a natural birth. I'm from Algérie

this is maxi-minimalism, i don't consider myself a minimal person but I am only getting half of what you got as a self-labelled minimalist, minimalism should not be about aesthetic or being trendy, I hope you realise it someday ❤

Once Upon a Child is a gem of a store for families on a budget too!
@@1027vvergaramy favorite store for shopping for the baby honestly😂 and my local thrift store haha
I love how thoughtful you are when it comes to what you bring into your home. Would love to see the follow up video of what you actually used too.

I don’t think that is unrelated…. I think your comment is kind and lovely ❤
This baby haul is not minimal whatsoever, but it is very adorable 🥹

that is real minimalism thank you for your testimony

Yes would love an updated video in a few months. Things yall used and didn’t use. What did you buy that you needed stuff like that!

Thank you so much for pre-recording some videos so we can still watch your lovely videos while you spend precious time with Oliver ❤

It didn’t have to be! I have a 2.5 year old and we are fine with 2 sheets 😉
Then consider yourself very fortunate that you didn’t have sickly children. I’m just saying it’s always good to have a little more than not enough.
For our Grandkids we purchased a high chair that straps onto our dining chair. Looks great, very sturdy, and both grandkids really liked it.

Would love to see an updated version. We expect our baby girl in October so this is very useful to me. Thank you!

My sister has that same Baby Bjorn bouncer you showed in black and her little girl uses it a lot! Sometimes, she even gets fed in it 😊

Love the nursery wallpaper
Do you mind sharing with us where the grinder chair is from? You did not mentioned in the video. Thank you.
I loved our Solly baby wrap! It was the right weight for my summer baby too!

Changing table my sister never used it
As they two story house
Always changed baby down stairs
You should get the little spatula for diaper cream application. Huge game changer! Trust me.
My 6 year old still plays with his stacking cups in the bath.

I got a high chair that’s a 5-1. 80 something dollars, graco brand. Goes from baby to big kid. I’d say that’s a win, does all that you mentioned

I want to do it that way. This video is so capitalist. Makes out like you need to be really rich to have children….
Can you share about chair in nursery?
Your idea and mine of minimal clearly differ greatly. I didn't have half of that stuff
Can you make a minimalist video to share? This one stressed me out it’s so capitalist surely it’s possible to be a mommy without spending this amount of money?
Love your deep green crochet blanket. Think it’s the crystal wave pattern ?
Ashlynne, I’m going to Thailand this week!
Can’t wait to see your little man
Please do an update video!!
You’re giving me major baby fever 😭
Guess How Much I Love You is a great book
I am 48. My only daughter 19. I am glad only have 1. I am glad she is 19.
Looks like the diaper bag link goes to the changing pad😬
The sad baige baby is strong with this one 😢😂
Everything I bought is really wonderful. Like you, I am waiting for a new baby, but there is no way I will find in my country the wonderful things you have, and this is really a sad thing. Anyway, it's okay, what matters is that I give birth to my baby in good health and in a natural birth.
I'm from Algérie
Dont forget to register baby to Dolly Parton's little library

Is it available in Canada?
Yay 😊🎉😂❤
This is the least minimal list I have ever seen! Lovely items though.
