Evelyn is a pleasant addition. Thank you for introducing her.
I’ve been curious who she was for a long time since this is my favorite RUclips channel and I just can’t help but wonder who Andrew has been lucky enough to spend his life with! Not surprised she’s an angel.
Great, but did you guys prop up that table at 12:28, or was it there when you got there?
Beautiful wife, beautiful hike, beautiful cactus flowers and scenery all around. Appreciate you sharing your ventures with us all. ♥️♥️👍👍
Already there
She has a great smile -
Lucky to have a wife willing to share in your passion. Don't forget to appreciate that
Pure wisdom friends
Yup, happy wife, happy life, and she seeks to like you lol I'd encourage that.
Lucky Evelyn to have found a man who has passion for adventure. Actually, it's a lucky woman who finds a man who has passion for ANYTHING away from the TV or PC.
Ohhhhh !!!! Evelyn is such a good balance and match for you. Thank you for this opportunity to see you two together.
I too like her along! And, I like that you’re not hiking alone out there!
Such a great team!! & I love how you both seem to have some mountain goat climbing DNA!!!
*Welcome Evelyn! You guys are so goofy together, I love it!*
*I agree the **_Rock Goddess_** @**21:50** isn't ancient, but it's at least ten days of work onsite and way too heavy to import it... so someone hiked out there with tools and carved it in place for an audience that might never visit?*
*More likely it was brought up from the South from someplace near Copán, and carried in hundreds of years ago.*
*There are aspects of the Rock Goddess (like the tree/hair that are very familiar).*
She's good looking, too!
@@1nvisible1,
I have to disagree with you, and it is based upon my experience living through the real hippie days of the 1960s and 1970s with the birth of Earth Day and the artwork from Height Ash-berry and the psychedelic poster art that drove most contemporary artists and their work. There is very little doubt that one of the previous comments was probably correct in estimating that it took someone at least 10 days of fairly steady work to complete and I also concur that I doubt that anyone with any brained would be willing to carry it in/overland as a completed project when they could bring the tools and have an actual “Love In”!
Bro your wife is a real character! Glad you have her with you!
Haha she is!
@@Desert.Drifter 23:0. that head sculpture, the date is on the bottom.. i still think, it was flooded, when those graneries were built, access by boat.. ?..there must be some evidence of corn fields, raws, somewhere..you dont just plant 2 or 3..or were they traded from other areas..plus, wheres the source of arrow heads.?. nothing but sandstone there.

Are you sure it is not old? Modern people my not have the skills. It is what I would call the TREE OF LIFE. Show you photos to men in a university, you already do, thank you for you site.
@Desert drifter's, could that piece of metal on sandstone table be what was used to carve the sand stone head?
I think Evelyn really was a nice breath of fresh air in your video series. Please ask her to come more often!
She's definitely a keeper, my friend. And I mean that in the most respectful way. I love when my wife travels with me on adventures...it's so much more rewarding and fun!!
I nwould love sharing theses adventures with a loved one, that would be awsome.
No woman, no cry...😩😓😁
Yes, invite Evelyn along again!
You are very blessed to have such a sweet and beautiful companion in life.
I couldn’t agree more.
Hey there Drifters, just wanted to say thanks. I grew up in New Hampshire, and at age 17 hitch hiked out to Tucson. Loved it. I spent many years living and working in the South West, until I was transferred to an office in Eastern Washington in '89. I'm not an office guy, I worked construction as an electrician. I got to see quite a bit of the Southwestern USA over the years, but I didn't realize how much I missed it until I found your channel. Stay safe, won't you? I'm soon to be 73 years old, and somewhat relegated to the role of armchair explorer. You folks make that something that I can live with. So thanks, and my very best wishes for you both.
I too am and armchair drifter in eastern WA(Spokane). Can’t walk far so will let these youngsters do it for me. Enjoy the beautiful places brought to me.
I really like your videos. I am part Apache and Pueblo Indian. My dad grew up in New Mexico near Pie Town on the Criswell Ranch. I am George Criswell's grandson. My dad told me stories about growing up on the ranch and how he would ride to the hills and explore the canyons, He said he found several of what he called cliff dweller ruins. He said they were well intact with whole pottery, arrowheads everywhere corn cobs, and burnt corn cobs still in the fireplaces. I never went to the ruins because my Grandfather sold the ranch which was over 46000 acres long before I was born. Anyway, I wanted to tell you this because I thought you might want to research it and maybe you could find the ruins my dad spoke about. The Criswell ranch is on the internet today as it is being sold off in chunks. I hope this becomes one of your videos. Thank you again for letting me relive a memory of the stories my father told me.
Thank you for sharing that story❤
You have such amazing history! To be a bug on the wall and listen to your father's stories...
Amazing!!! Thank you for sharing
Loved the story, thanks for sharing. Would love to have access to a place like that!
They used to make some amazing Goat Cheese in Pie Town. I sure miss the Hatch Chili cheese they used to make.
That face sculpture is crazy. Who ever and whenever they did it and just left it there really left a treasure.
yes indeed. Looks Sumerian. I dont think a hiker went up there with a hammer and chisels and carved this on a camping trip then left it there for people to admire.
I like it much better than names scratched into the rocks or wood.
i would say it took more than a week to carve that
Looks like someone lived there for an extended period and started to set up the cave, out of necessity, as the ancients could have. That thing wasn't carved in a day. A week, semester, idk. I'd call that a gift to the world, maybe there are good and bad traces to be left.
I highly doubt someone did that recently. Have you ever tried to carve something in wood that size? That takes a lot of time even if they had power tools.
You remind me of the way my wife was with me . We were at our best working together . I lost her to cancer July 12 2022 . Let Evelyn go with you often , don't let the special moments pass when you can share them making the experience exponentially better .
Sorry for your loss mike
My condolences and wishes for future peace and comfort.

❤❤❤❤ wisdom from life! The precious time we have together. Love the Drift 😎
Bringing and including your life partner as you roam the earth is such a blessing.
I used to think your wife must be a special person to let you run off by yourself all the time, but to have her join you makes her *REALLY* special! I enjoyed watching the two of you explore together, don't stop!
I met a girl from Wisconsin who asked me what I liked to do. I said I grew up hiking the trails above my home town of Santa Barbara. I asked if she'd like me to take her creek crawling and trail hiking up into the mountains above the city. We found miners cabins, metates, and the trails of the Chumash natives. We honeymoon hiked parks and ruins in New Mexico. We've been married for over thirty five years. Blessings on you both.
What a lovely post!!! ❤
I love the music!
Nice to see your lovely wife. Beautiful place to be together.
Evelyn is not your ideal companion

Your wife is absolutely stunning! Nice to meet you, Evelyn! Wonderful collaboration ❤
That carved rock was amazing and even though it was an ancient site and I do believe in leaving everything alone, it does say that human life goes on and that it wasn't just for the ancients, we really don't know how old that is but I don't think that it was such a bad edition. I think if there were only a few ruins out there that I would probably be more upset, but they're scattered all over the place and more are discovered every day, so yeah, that's pretty amazing. I hope you got a lot of pictures
That sculpture was incredible! Absolutely blew me away. I think you're right it's a modern artist who was carving that and using the cave as a studio.
As an artist, I was just thinking about this very question watching this channel several videos ago.
Where are contemporary artist able to leave their mark on nature? Tough question. The sculpture placement was pretty good.
What a wonderful place to bring your wife. The word "ideal" comes to mind, as does "garden of Eden". Just beautiful! Lovely to see you Evelyn. Such a cute couple!
There was a place where the river looked like the garden of Eden. I'm glad I wasn't alone in noticing.
Evelyn's smile radiates happiness and light. You're a lucky man Mr Drifter!
My grandmother's name was Evelyn. I'll be 69 in August but I can still hear, faintly, Grandpa's voice calling Ev. That's what he always called her. A nice memory.
MORE EVELYN! You two are wonderful on camera together, and she’s just as adventurous as you are…do it for us ladies!
✨💖✨
Agreed! As a lady follower, I’d enjoy more cameos of her, or an outright shift to dual hiking adventures would be okay too!
"do it for us ladies!"

Evelyn was my wife's name, she passed away at the age of 58, five years ago. ❤ I don't usually watch your videos, but this showed up on my recommended list and I'm glad it did!

I’ve done a lot of research on the New Mexico Indians and the Mexico and Central American Indians. I was born on a huge ranch that was open-range land gained in the war with Mexico. I grew up way back when 90% of NM was inhabited by European settlers (the early Spanish families and new settlers predominantly from western and N Western Europe. In the 50’s, 60’s and 70’s there was a deep desire to document the remnants of native Indigenous people. My public school year saw many of the early archeologist and explorers building close relationship with the Pueblo and Navajo Apache peoples. Almost every year we went on a week long school trip to visit Santa Fe and the Northern indigenous cities and ruins. We also went on exploration field trios where students were tasked with just looking for arrowheads, flint tools, broken pottery. Our ranch was where the Guadalupe and Rocky mountain collide. The closest river to our land was the Penasco River, a little over 22 miles away by road. Up until the 1930’s, 40’s there was sufficient yearly rain to allow small groups of indians to travel to our ranch and set up hunting camp sites. There was also a lot of flint in our area so we believe a lot of people would travel to these flint outcroppings and live for a few months while mining flint and making flint tools. In several areas on the ranch, where now dry creeks use to run, we found large piles of broken flint and tools that were discarded after one mistake in their making, lots of partial arrow heads, partial knife and broken pottery. The pottery is quite a bit different than in Arizona or New Mexico. The dark decorative patterns were large patterns vs the fine line patterns seen in other areas.
Anyway about 10 years ago I join ancestry. Its been a long arrurous bit of research. The data bases keep growing and ancestry has become amazingly useful. I had heard from both sets of grandparents that we had native ancestry.
When we first ran our DNA, I had made it back to about 1550 on both sides of my family tree. I couldn't find any indication of a native American except one old tin type picture from the 1860’s on my mothers side. The Mitchell / Smith branch had a picture of a very handsome, very blond Scottish farmer with a tall dark haired dark skin wife. We have her name but no tree past her. We know at that time there werent near enough women for eligible young men. We believe she may have been a mixed Creek Tribe and European. Her facial features were very strong, long face with long medium nose.
Anyway then I found that my grandmother in paternal sides family were and still are important family in Mexico. We were able to track her family back to the 1700’s near Pueblo Mexico. Then in the late 1700’s the area near LasCruces NM. Through DNA we know we are of Basque origin with a small percentage of indigenous American indians. The map shows similar dna from Guatemala to southern Texas, New Mexico and Arizona with a higher concentration of matching DNA in the traditional territories of the Apache.
Whats amazing when people start digging is how vast our ancestors are. My 2nd great grandfather fought in Sam Houstons army. One of my fourth great grandfather's fought in indian wars from Florida Al the way to New Mexico with medals and awards received for combat in each war. Ironically, we find that we have other ancestors who were killed in ambushes by indian raiding parties and then we have ancestors who were members of the tribes killing and being killed by my Euroean ancestors.
Its mind boggling to think of all the pain, suffering caused by leaders and fear on all sides and yet here I and my sister are products of both sides….
I am grateful that people are taking time to explore and document these remnants of the past. My fear is they all need to be protected somehow but know that it is impractical to do so.
I want to encourage people who are interested to try researching their ancestry. I've found it to be quite the adventure.
Omg I literally gasped at the stone face!! This was the best one yet, not just because we got to meet Evelyn but the drone footage of scenery, the sounds, everything… this is going to be hard to beat!! Wow, thank you Andrew and Evelyn!
I agree!
@@millierader2517, je suis d’accord moi aussi !. 🇫🇷 Paris French .
i gasped too when i saw it....... i cant believe what modern humans will do. destroying sites left and right leaving less and less of the historical sites of the ancients to learn from. Leaving us nonsense that serves no historical use beyond "at some point some asshole came in here and carved his modern crap into stuff that was some of the few remaining pieces of evidence of ancient civilizations".
Not only is it nice to be further introduced to your life, but having Evelyn there and filming her, it gives a great perspective of the magnitude of your adventure.
Evelyn is a welcome addition. Have fun!
You are carrying the past exploration dream of what looks like a huge boomer generation. Fun is mandatory so go for it ❤
A pleasure meeting Mrs. Drifter, what a great team!
That one small tree growing out of that small patch of soil is a perfect example of how even in a minimal environment life expresses itself so beautifully and powerfully! God you are AMAZING! ❤️
That tree reminded me of my wife and I going to Volcano National Park in Hawaii. Out in the lava fields you could spot something green growing here and there in that rock. Just enough crack to sprout up a plant.
What a lovely way of expressing a thought. That made me feel so peaceful suddenly. TY 👏🏻👍🏼
I'd say it's nature that's amazing. Give it some credit! I find there's more beauty in the fact that such incredible complexity and history can form in a universe without an "intelligent designer." As physics plays out, this is what happens. From the most distant galaxies in wavelengths we can't even see with our human eyes to the microscopic life only resolved with technology like electron microscopes, all truly wonders to behold. Giving some sky daddy all the credit would ruin the beauty of it all.
@@Cara.314 What do you think nature is? 😂😂😂
Also proves Ian Malcom's saying "life finds a way"
Thanks for having the both of you in this episode...Evelyn adds a nice extra dimension to your regular videos...Please continue to have her join you in the future.
When i was 18 years old (1998) i went to the Smoky Mountains to camp, it was my first time in nature, I am from Chicago, and it was a good time! At that time i’ve never heard of the phrase “Leave No Trace” or anything about outdoor ethics! I remember my friends and I started driving away you could see our mess (cups, paper towels, paper plates) it just stood out like a sore thumb! I forced them to go back and we cleaned up put everything in bags or just inside our car and took it to the visitor center and threw it away. That experience changed the way i looked at things and even now i go out of my way to clean up whenever i go hiking or camping!
Thank you!
I’m glad you understood that instinctively. Having grown up during the national anti littering campaign I just assumed that was part of everyone’s upbringing now, but if the understanding comes from within that is even better.

How sweet is she? Hello Evelyn! Thank you for lending Andrew to us on these amazing hikes. Such a gentleman. The natural arch was just stunning! The contrast of the black and brown. The spot where the lines curved up, gorgeous! That view is one of my top 3! The drone footage over the creek... I could smell the sage and juniper. That carving was mind blowing.
