The Mavs defense became elite because they added size and physicality in PJ at the 4 and Gafford at the 5. Mavs had elite rim protection for 48 minutes a night that’s what changed the defense. Mavs defense in my opinion will be the same if not better because there scheme is to run you off the 3 point line play very physical and force you into long mid range shots or force you into there elite shot blockers. Klay is still a very physical defender and he fits this scheme perfectly. The entire playoffs and Finals specifically DJJ was just to weak and couldn’t handle the Brown, Tatum size guys because he lacked physicality you aren’t shoving Klay around like they did DJJ. Even SGA was cooking DJJ because he couldn’t handle SGA’s shoulder/push off he does everytime he does a step back mid range. It’s the reason the Mavs got rid of THJ, Green and let DJJ walk and brought in Klay, Grimes and Naji because of their physicality on defense. My guess is with the $4mil they have left over they will sign Dennis Smith Jr to be that PG defender off the bench who is extremely physical and an elite on ball defender and all of those guys I just named they all have very active hands as well.

The most playoff win shares he has gotten were 2.5 but over a 24 game postseason. That doesn't even close the gap against the Celtics who beat Dallas 4 games to 1. I'm not worried about Klay. Dallas needed a younger better player to close the gap.
