Probably the best, nicest, most thorough manufacturer-provided "how-to" video that I've ever seen. Bravo, EK.
The 30-Series cards are probably the best looking FE cards NVIDIA has released.. and EK knocked it out of the park with the water blocks for the 30-Series FE cards!
Respect EKWB team, for the support of its customers and the highest quality in the market ❤️
Wonderful. Now I have to delay my rebuild another week that I have to wait for the active backplate. Well done on the video for sure.
Very helpful video. Thank you EK!
Nice! This is exactly what people want!
Love you EK!!! ❤❤❤ Just a couple of mentioned items for you guys. Your end of video stuff, like "what is in the Box, " "Check your RGB," and "pressure testing," should be at the beginning. This is just my opinion as all those would require a complete disassembly of the entire unit. I'm not sure why you sent SO much hardware. The small backplate had 2 screws that had galvanic corrosion from dissimilar metals and had to clean the threads and applied a very small amount of oil to prevent this from happening again. Fit and finish is amazing! I really wish the back water plate was not such an expensive upgrade as almost $275.00 USD. I would have purchased it when I ordered the 3090fe waterblock. Oh, now it is on sale and on backorder... I am VERY happy with the fact I ha e order SO much stuff from you guys and it is literally going half way around the world to Hawaii and I usually have it in 7-10 days!!! Thank you EK ❤❤❤
I got mine today for the 3080. You can feel the premium quality of all EKWB products. Can't wait to water cool my gpu 😁
Enjoy it :)
Great video. I just ordered this ABP model for my TUF 4090. Side note, I don’t understand the comments about having the thermal pads pre applied. To me, adding the thermal pads adds to the experience of custom loops. It seems to me that the seasoned veterans are complaining about it.
Thanks MaTITS your video was amazing 😁
Show the active plate install for the 3090.
Soon™ ;)
@@EKWBofficial when?
No problems of any sort on mine that I received yesterday.
I am quite surprised as how heavy this waterblock alone is, I had some sagging when installed vertically that I had to resolve but other than that the waterblock seems to be what I paid for
First time I buy from ekwb, not disappointed!
A little update. I have installed it today.
The thermal pads included are okay but for sure it can be upgraded with some better ones 1mm thick, like thermal odyssey. When not gaming I mine on my card and temps hit 102-104C with 25C ambient air temps while with stock cooler and thermal odyssey pads it was 96-98C.
A little thing that I disliked is a small decoloration present in the waterblock, it seems like something used for cleaning in factory assembly? Probably can be cleaned up by disassembling the waterblock.
In game the temps are better than stock FE cooler, I am sure it can be even cooler by using a better thermal paste than supplied (not that the one supplied is bad, it's quite good actually)
My note for the product is 8/10 :)
Great video; I've just used this as a guide to fit the block to my 3080 FE (very similar, but used the PDF to check thermal pad locations).
Advice for anyone else about to tackle this: it took me 3 hours, start to finish. I was being careful and taking my time, it's a good 15-20 years since I last built a gaming PC and I have never watercooled a GPU before, so this lengthy time might be due to this being unfamiliar territory for me. Probably 2 hours of that was cutting and sticking the pads lol. Can confirm that there was "more than an adequate quantity of thermal pads" 🤣🤣
Great video, but please improve your quality control, I've had two of these RTX 3090 FE blocks and both have come with stripped screws from the factory, for such an expensive waterblock, I'd expect better, especially as the Bykski/Alphacool and Corsair blocks are like a third or half the price, the Bykski one even includes an active backplate.
That’s exactly what I have on one of my 3080fe blocks…what was the resolution on your case?
@@Kirkusssss I RMA'd it with Scan and in the end asked for a full refund. The guy I spoke with at Scan's RMA department didn't even ask for proof of the stripped screw, he just said this is a common complaint with EK's blocks as of late and approved the RMA.
@@GhostMotley thank you. I am waiting for Performance Pcs to resolve my rma. Will open my second one to make sure it doesn’t have the same issue.
This is interesting, as mine came with a seized hex screw on the backplate. Had to abandon installation, RMA the block from Canada, leaving my 3090 idle for two weeks.
Honestly, I expected better QC from EKWB. Reading your post makes me feel apprehensive about the Active Backplate I preordered...
@@MiyabiJNEP The worst being in Canada is that if you want to return for refund you loose the taxes and transport. Hope that PPC from the states can figure how to do the RMA with EKWB and hopefully get a new frame instead of shipping everything. My guess is that some sort of high torque screwdriver was used on those screws to lock into the block and strip on removal.
Cant afford a 3090, but thankfully the video is free. Such a pleasure to watch people handle expensive yet desirable things :)
Need this for the active backplate too. Thanks.
Stay tuned to our channel for more of these!
When are you guys going to sell a combo of the front and rear water block?
I received my yesterday for the 3090, ... the raised part where the water flows seem to be dirty, as if water is stuck between the acrylic and the metal... Very hard to explain....
I feel I need to strip it down and clean it up....
10:17 this is the point where I switch over to the active backplate video, correct?
Waiting on that active backplate and then I’ll be doing this.
We will start shipping first Quantum Vector RTX3090 FE Active Backplates within the next few days. Due to high demand, new orders may experience shipping delays. We thank you for your patience and understanding.
Is the installation of the RTX 3090 FE 'Full Metal - Black SE' exactly the same as the model in the video? Same thermal pads at 1.0mm, and same placement too?
Yes it is :)
Hello Matic. I want to ask. Is it possible to use the NVlink bridge slot on the graphics card after this conversion?
Will there be a version of this available for the rtx 3080 strix??
If there any update on the shipping date of active backplate. I received an email last month saying that it will be shipped before the end of September.

@@EKWBofficial Unfortunately I have canceled my pre order last week. I have switched to another 3090. Hope the QC of this backplate is better than the main block.
Its possible to use liquid metal with this board, on the GPU die. Corrosion etc.
just curious but wtf would you wear cotton white gloves with all kinds of visible hairy lint while working with paste and sticky pads instead of some nitrile gloves?
Followed to the T, and the cards runs for a bit, but eventually Mother Board says Video card wont post. This is ODD, The card worked fine before doing the conversion.
Wondering if he’s wearing any special gloves to work on the pc??
what about pump ? how to connect the pump to this block ? is there a product kit for evga RTX 3080 ?
You can connect the pump to the terminal with some tube and a few fittings, just like any other CPU or GPU block :)
You can check the available products for your EVGA GPU here: www.ekwb.com/configurator/
wish the pads came pre cut, I would spend extra on that
Is the EK Water Blocks EK-Quantum Vector RTX 3080/3090 - Kupfer + Acryl compatible with a RTX 3090 EVGA XC3 🥲?

is it normal for the plexi side to not light up on the vector tuf 3070 block? only the geforce rtx and EK logo are lighting for me..

@@EKWBofficial Hi. thanks for the reply. I already did and the replacement LED's strips are on the way :)
Seriously EK? You couldn't provide pre-cut thermal pads with such an expensive block? Nonetheless, very good video detailing every step of the process.
Pad cutting, peeling and correct placement is a complete and total PITA, especially for the numerous little ones. I know because I've installed one of these, and ended up tired and angry. Alphacool provides pre-cut pads, and Corsair even pre-cut and pre-placed in the water block! Not to mention that this tutorial arrives VERY LATE. Really EK, you are starting to resemble some shit practices from leading brands like Asus. You market ultra-expensive products that don't really deserve such a high premium, and on top of that, you are not even user-friendly. The last block I bought from Barrow was super easy, performed great, and was at 50% your price. The same goes for their fittings, which are top-notch. Less marketing and more engineering, that's what we enthusiasts want!
3090... dream
Lol, this tutorial arrives 9 months late, and in 12 months you'll have the 4090 at +80% performance over the 3090. It's ridiculous to spend 330$ in a block for the 3090 right now, it's simply not worth it so late in the product cycle. Cheers.
@@Miskatonic-University 🤡👍
@@Miskatonic-University +80% performance? in 12 months? People are still waiting for their 3000 series due to shortage and it's highly unlikely we'll see such an increase in performance.. 20-30% improvement at best just like with previous generations and I believe the actual launch dates will be pushed to early 2023 if all the leaks are to be believed
You forgot to say which thickness for which parts VRAM, VRM, CHOKE, etc.
will any radiator kit work?
Good question, I came here with the same question. I hope we get an answer soon.
@@TheProgrammingKat yeah man, I have no idea how to actually use liquid with it. I think you can either buy a reservoir or maybe even use a regular rad kit, just not sure
any pump, any radiator, any res, any coolant... @@supr_
Is this compatible with 3090ti FE?
The 3090 Ti Founders Edition uses a different block: www.ekwb.com/shop/ek-quantum-vector-fe-rtx-3090-ti-d-rgb-black-special-edition
This man needs a nice moustache to complete his look.
is it just me or he tells us that the stickier side is light blue and should be on the PCB side, yet he mounts it to face the cooler?
Yeah, I came to the comments because of this same thing...
Cute ... as fark this guy.
Only 8 months late!
Hopefully EK sees this. I have been following for a bit and I noticed you guys will say "you need something sharp" like a 2:15. From my opinion, it would be better English if you guys said "you need a thin edge to pry open ..." Sharp technically isn't wrong, but when I hear sharp I think "cut" not "pry"
6:28: Excessive thermal paste will lead to poor performance.
Isn't that cross of thermal paste way too excessive?
That is just the right amount as enough thermal paste still needs to be used to cover all the edges of the GPU die.
Definitely excessive. You really just need a good enough pea sized dot in the center, which will spread out on its own when pressed on.
I won't keep the old thermal pads, they are shit. If you ever mount back the original cooler, install new decent pads.
Yes, 1.5mm thick ones for the original cooler
ok is ok but but those gloves that leave accessories... and if smears the thermal paste is better, no comments thx
> The excessive or uneven application of thermal paste may lead to poor performance
> *Proceeds to dump 17 metric tons worth of thermal paste on the GPU*
This is usless without active cooling on the back
It's got hybrid cooling of the backplate which works well enough :)
