Seriously one of the greatest scenes in cinematic history. The fact that they filmed this in San Quentin is amazing. This epic is one of the most underrated films ever made. Just a true masterpiece. A classic.
The Onda council member who is sitting next to Montana is Jimmy Santiago Baca, the guy who wrote the screenplay for this film, and was an actual prisoner turned award winning poet and writer.
Not just in this movie, but in real life as well. A job, for example. You apply, then you are hired and become part of the team, and then you get promoted to leader.
This part made me sad cause Paco became something he swears he didn’t want to become. Yet he had a better life, but he motivated a cousin to pursue something he once wanted.
So the teenage perspective of this film still? Teenage paco didn't know what he wanted and adult miklo would probably rather be anything else even though he's got the "respect" he always wanted
I think its more about 3 brothers family unity.. The gang / mafia is part of that story.. I watch it over and over cos i wished i had that unity of brothers.. But thats just me..
The tension at - 00:54 is reminiscent to me of the 90's here in Los Angeles. Those who lived through it might have an idea of what I'm talking about. I'm listening to this in my truck with the sub and the tension the symphony in the background gives me flashbacks of my childhood coming up when everybody was either tagging or gang banging. It was very real !Nearly every city out here from west, downtown, to the south east and East Los it was all neighborhood. Everywhere you went could either get involved in some serious beef or in the least a beating. Things have vastly changed and improved over the years. I can't imagine what it was like living in the 70's when a lot of this took place in San Quentin. All which is based off Mexican Mafia. Temptation from devils is never over. Real Raza and individuals know if they've been caught in the system or street beef. The guitar gives it that touch of Mexican folklore music. So many bittersweet memories come to mind. Certainly, we are ingrates as human beings. Almost made me shed a 💧. Regards to all Raza who made it out of these eras as well as the viewers. Allahu Akbar ☝🏼 !
I lived through the same period late 80s/early 90s when everyone was gang banging, tag banging or belonged to a party crew. Civilians were definitely messed with.

Yes, but Miklo was also still on parole, and while I'm sure there was no intention to shoot or kill anyone, they went down there to mix it up with Tres Puntos, shot and killed Spider then got into a high speed chase and e add arrest with the police. Add all that up and Miklo was definitely going to be doing time.

Yes. A former La Eme member wrote briefly about him in a book. He said that Manson was an occasional target, but Manson never showed any fear and fought back. Manson was hated because of what he and his "family" had done to pregnant Sharon Tate, but his lack of fear and dangerous personality when cornered was respected.
