- In this video I use Excel for Mac 2011 Version 14.2.3
I show you how to calculate mean, standard deviation and standard error in Microsoft Excel. This is considered to be data processing.
This was so helpful! I can't believe that it was done in the Mac version of Excel as well! I have that version, and I can almost never find tutorials that use the Mac version.
I am an IB Biology teacher in New York. So glad that these are helping you - that is my encouragement to keep making them! :)
you have no idea how many videos i watched before finding this one, thank you!
@rajiv kumar glad you found this useful! there is a separate video under graphs and data processing that deals with the t test and p values, enjoy!
Thank you so much! This was so much better than the lectures I have had at Uni! I used the standard error to help me make custom error bars for my graphs and i was so confused until i found this! Thanks again! My report can be finished!
I don't know who you are, but I love you! Thank you very very very much! I guess you've just saved my butt from failing a course.
BEST VIDEO EVER! Saved me for my Lab report. Thanks so much. :)
Saves times!!!
Just what I was looking for! Very clear and easy to follow steps. Thanks!
Wholesome! I was able to teach a friend how to present a simplified data after watching this video!
Thank you
Your welcome! Good to see people accessing it from around the world :)
Such a clear and concise explanation. Thank you!
Brilliant! You've just saved another Dissertation! Thank you so much :)
VERY VERY CLEAR AND EASY STEP. JazaALLAH

Hi, just wanted to tell you that this was very clear and helpful. I'm very appreciative of your video. Yay, IB Biology!
Very helpful. Thank you! It's a pity I can't find this information on Excel Help and that the SE formula is not included in the list of formulas in Excel.
Hi, Thanks For Your Clear explanation💯.
Without seeing your spreadsheet it is hard for me to tell if there is a mistake in the way you input the formula or not. I'm not sure how you already know what the standard deviation is supposed to be? How do you know it is supposed to be 1.235 and isn't actually 0.0235? Highly unlikely that Excel is wrong, more likely that you've inadvertently selected different cells/formula. I'd input the formula from the beginning again being careful to select the desired cells.
its really informative tutorial, please load videos that shows that how to use different test on different types of biological data. also put something abt significance of data in terms of P- values.
thanking you.
thank you u are my savior
steve choi Glad to help! If you're doing your IB exams next week check my homepage - Global Kahoot exam review quiz one time only this week :)
you have kahoot too?
steve choi See my homepage video - the Global Kahoot happened successfully last night and will happen one more time today at 3pm EST/8pm UK time
Stephanie Castle yes i will
thank you!! this has saved me a lot of time
thank you so much! i really need it. really helped me with my lab report too! :))

Super helpful! Thank you
this helped me so much !!!!! thank you!!!
So helpful! Thanks! :D
Super helpful, thank you! :)
VERY helpful, thank you!
Thanks for the video! Please, how do I calculate the standard deviation of the mean difference?
You are wonderful, thank you!
Thank you so much❤️
awesome video!! thanks a lot!!
thank you so much. amazing help
thanks a lot! the video helped me out!!
great help, thank you
really helpful, thankyou!
very good video for understand
sorry, it was 1.235 and 0.01235 not 0.0235.so this really was a difference of decimal points. if you multiply 0.01235(Excel) with 100 it is 1.235(online calculator). The answers from both excel and online calculator were identical. I was just wondering what is the logic behind the difference in decimal places. I hope this time it is clear. sorry about the confusion.
So great !!
thank you.
Thanks queen
Thank you!
Thank you 💖
Mine just keeps saying not enough arguments were entered for this function, even though I followed your video step by step...help please?
I can’t still understand that standard erro mean how did that B value came
With respect your comment is still confusing. If excel says 0.01235 and your calculator says 1.235 then they are clearly not identical. Somewhere there is an error, either human or on the program, but without seeing the data I can't tell I'm afraid.
when i calculate standard deviation. I shows my values as if they are divided by 100 for example 1.235 will show up as 0.0235. why is that? please can you explain?
May I know if I repeat a experiment 3 times, how to determine the Mean and SE?
cheers this helped me and my friend :)
+matt morton Thanks! You're welcome :)
+Stephanie Castle Mine just keeps saying not enough arguments were entered for this function, even though I followed your video step by step...help please?
Thank you..
Hi again, the data are actually from the same population. Does this mean I still need to calculaten for each group?
To be honest its difficult for me to answer without seeing your complete investigation since your comment leaves me wondering why you previously described there to be 3 groups - I'm sure you have justification for this and that is what should guide you as to what to use mean, SD and SE for. Refer to your research questions and consider how these statistics will help you address it.
Thankyou, very sweet
Thank you very much :)
Thank you so much!!!!!
Shout out to Greg Knock
Which standard deviation function do you use in the 2013 version? As there's a few variations
you can just manually type =stdev( then select your columns. Or you can use =stdev.s to find it. in the command =stdev.s the s means sample, so =stdev.s is the standard deviation for a sample.
Hi, if I have an uneven data set, say three groups of data with say 10, 20 and 15 in each griup, can I calculate the mean, SD and SE with the groups as a whole or individually?
It sounds like you have 3 distinct categories of data, in which case if you are calculating mean, SD and SE, you'd likely calculate for each individual group/category. Most importantly though, you should be clear about what you are using the statistics for / why as this will guide you in their application. Hope this helps!
thank you so much :)
where did you get 7?
Fab thank you!
why do you take average as mean? i thought those were 2 different things
mean is the same as average
thx i was confused, i thought it was the median.
thank you so much
awesome
thank you!!!
V nice
Great! :) xx
thanks
lol the enigma button...ha. thanks though.
thanks a lot
