I love this routine, but the ironic thing is that I could really use a KFC Famous Bowl right about now.
i'm replying to a 10 year old jacksfilms comment!
To be fair... I get the same way with the Double Down.
I hope he gets a little notification about this every time someone comments on it. And if so, some free merch would be appreciated. Hmu 😉
I feel like I stepped into a time machine.
Legend says that Jack is still jonesing for a Famous Bowl
“Until you invent a lunch gun...” gets me every time
how did u mess up the quote? u could doubled back and made sure.
"I would like a failure pile in a sadness bowl." So spot on and hilarious. I love his bit about birthdays on the same album, too. Classic.
One night at my old job at a gas station, my coworker and I were quoting this clip. A customer came in as we were laughing our asses off and asked what was so funny, so we ran it down for him (minus the swearing.) He laughed and thanked us, telling us his wife had just left him and he didn't think he would be able to laugh at anything again, but we managed to cheer him up with that, if only briefly.
One of the few sweet stories from working at that hellhole. Hope that guy's doing better.
Also, my siblings and I shout "I WANT A FAILURE PILE IN A SADNESS BOWL!" all the time.
I hope that guy remembers yall.
Thank you for sharing that.
And then everyone in the gas station clapped
What a great story! The world needs more peeps like you. Thanks for sharing.
That's an awesome story!
Michael Jackson added this to his favourites on RUclips in 2008 😂😭
I came straight here after seeing it on Twitter🤣🤣🤣🤣
mj XOXO me too 😂😂
@@mjfedup6853 me too hahhah
Sameeeee
He said "hee hee hee"
Watching this while eating a famous bowl.
E3guyy mind-blown
Same 😂
I will always cherish how this video introduced me to Patton Oswalt's stand-up career! My family and I still quote "Failiure pile in a sadness bowl" from time to time.
Also me. Have seen him every time he's performed in my area ever since, wish he would hit the northeast more often.
IIIII WANT A FAILURE PILE IN A SADNESS BOWL!!!
Pffft.
Me too,lol
Pile my food in a f!cking bowl, pbbby
@@lebbo88 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
We once went to KFC and played this on the CD player so the employees at the drive through could hear it
Your comment is 3 years old. Please reply.
@@Asian_Kid he's done
KFC should replace their tables with slop troughs. Forget the bowls and forget utensils. Just have their employees come out with a galvanized bucket filled to the brim with a mixture of everything they sell and just toss it all in.
LMFAO
Lmao we all gotta eat great idea.
No utensils allowed. Just stick your whole face down in the trough.
Fully transition into the stereotype of how Americans are seen. At least then there will be some honesty.
@@crimsondynamo615 and then Covid happened, making the bowls necessary.
Only Patton can connect KFC food and Pink Floyd. Genius
Also apropos of KFC. "Never eat anything in a bucket. The bucket is the food utensil ... of the farmyard." - Billy Connally
My heart truly goes out to him I cannot even imagine.
Are you referring to the rest of this set, or this bit in particular?
"failure pile in a sadness bowl ", should be on a t-shirt with a literal line drawing of that .
LMAO Oswalt is one of the funniest and insightful comics around today. The guy just gets good comedy.
I'm watching this clip again ten years later, and it's just as funny
This routine pops in my head every once in a while even after all these years. Each of his lines is great
Also, he uses This Mortal Coil - It Will End in Tears in the audio version, which sounds even better
I agree, but I have a feeling that he realized at some point that most of his audience had never heard of This Mortal Coil. Everybody has heard of Pink Floyd. 😁
STONER FOOOOOOOOOOOOD!!!!
Not a huge Patton Oswalt fan but this is spot on
Also, I am so going to KFC tomorrow and getting one of those failure bowls.
Love the nasty comments that attack Patton over a freaking silly joke. Guess they like their failure piles in sadness bowls a little too much...
Rofl!!
Patton oswalt is an judgmental prick. He was never all that funny.
@@davidkruse4030 some people find his judgements funny. He's a comedian for a reason
@@julianvenegas642 true. he is talented
Right. Imagine being so fucking pathetic that you take offense on behalf of a goddamned fast food restaurant.
Patton Oswalt is an extremely funny comedian. If people don't think he is funny, then I would seriously question their sense of humor.
Sharon maldonado
I wouldn't say that, I mean to be honest he's not really funny to me, but that's just my opinion I respect what he dose he just don't get me cracking up laughing but everybody got there own type of humor
I liked him on Justified and laugh at almost everything. This was not funny. Reminded me of Dane Cook.
MM88
lmao Oswalt is fucking lame
If you think this is funny you are as irrelevant as fuckin sub pop
Failure pile in a sadness bowl LOL. bro that actually motivates tf outta me.
471 people eat failure piles in a sadness bowl
To this day, this bit is the best KFC ad of all time
love it
Patton rocks. I think the bit off the album is a lot funnier, though: "Is there a way the bowl could play This Mortal Coil's 'It'll End it Tears" album while I'm eating it at 2 in the morning in my darkened apartment just kind of staring into the middle-distance."
As I'm staring down the barrel of a .45, swimming through the ashes of another life.
HAHAH Miahcels jackson favorited this!!!?!?! (yes, the official MJ youtube, this is on his favorites) thats funny.
I just sat down to eat my Famous Bowl and it made me think of this bit. One of my favorites from Oswalt! I opted out on the bacon btw.
I want a failure pile in a sadness bowl haha
I always triumphantly declare when I am eating a sadness bowl.
ftw
I put it in my favorites. He's great!
Nice I myself am a fishing guide up on the Alagnak river in Alaska in the summer time. It's a good way to live.
patton oswalt is da shit
KFC's next genius invention will be the Family Trough. It's just like a Famous Bowl, but it will be 6-ft across so that everyone can sit on the couch together and eat from one long bowl.
Latest episode of Giant bomb's beastcast brought me here
The old Oswalt Fart N Burp! Classic! Steve Martin has "Excuuuuuse me!!" Cosby has the head bob, and Patton has the "Pffft!"
I love patton oswald. I guess you have to have a certain sense of humor. And if some people think he uses to much profanity, just watch the def comedy jam and youll think patton is a well spoken human being.
i am totally in love with patton oswalt.
0:13 "What's good to have here?"
"Nothing!" (person in the crowd)
Patton Oswalt has the funniest style of comedy ever and is good when drunk tooooo! :)
We don't get those bowls in the UK. I'm not sure if I should be thankful or jealous.
We don't have them in Canada either. To be honest, looking at America's KFC menu as a Canadian is pretty terrifying.
+DanteCorwyn I'm ashamed to say I have eaten them and found them to be delicious.... It reminded me of putting all the leftovers from Christmas dinner in a pan and warming them up the next day...
+DanteCorwyn Thankful - You think our bombs are fantastic here in the US? Our fast food really kills more people. The only franchise I would support would be Taco Bell in ISIS held territory.
+DanteCorwyn Just buy all that stuff separately and then pile it into a bowl and stir with the little plastic fork and knife they give you.
You should be happy you don't, i mean if you want to eat from a trough and be considered a first world pig then America is the right way to go.
you want self respect and dignity and treat your food like you're not a burnout obese fucking slob, good for you.
Literally still, to this day: I refer to these - and any similar dish, as a "failure pile in a sadness bowl". At home, ordering out - always.
As much as I love this bit, I really must try one of these bowls soon. Of course, my KFC serves up stale/expired food, so I'll really be living dangerously.
I hope you found the time in the past 13 years
Oswalt has the zeitgeist of America figured out, the sadness and despair just hidden under the surface, yet hidden by corporate Americas bullshit of "BUY, BUY, BUY"!!!!! He is comedy legend in the likes of Carlin and Hicks.
FPISB=failure pile in sadness bowl
fyi they don't like you ordering it like that
"Fuck that, I'm done. I don't give a shit anymore."
hahahaha!
"Lunch Gun" - *dead*
'pile my food in a *fucking* bowl'
ROFL. His delivery of that is perfect. Oswald is hilarious.
Lunch gun? Failure pile in a sadness bowl? Absolutely fucking awesome. Patton kills.
0:55 Truly one of the most unifying American moments of all time, the way these people cheer, my God...
All I hear is Remy
This bit is basically WHY he was Remy
This Is Patton Oswalt. He Did The Voice Of Remy In Ratatouille
Literally eating one rn after my dad said to watch this clip. Lmao.
I ordered one of these today and thought I heard them call it a failure bowl
Why is Patton Oswalt the funniest man on Earth?
What a terrible audience.
DubyaC not necessarily hecklers, but they certainly want to be part of the show. So annoying.
It's a 1 way mic. It just doesn't pick them up well
What Todd said. You hear audiences better on the big professionally shot specials because they're micced for the listeners at home. Recordings like these only have a mic for the performer.
Good for you.My brother is a fishing guide and lives on a small island off of Vancouver Island in BC Canada.I don't approve of hunting for pure sport but have no problem if it's for food and nothings wasted..He shoots a couple of deer every years that they package and freeze. They get lot's of fresh seafood and his wife has a nice big garden so they never run out of veg. fresh or canned. They also have apple and pear trees.Basically they're all set up.
I think Patton is a misunderstood comedian, everyone I know doesn't care for his comedy, amd I have to admit neither did I in the beginning. I think the reason for that is instead of listening to him, people are expecting something insanely hilarious. But when you expect a lot and are not paying attention to the comedian and don't connect to his material, of course you won't find it funny. I didn't care for Oswalt in the beginning because he is an atheist and most atheist have a cocky arrogant "know it all" attitude, and I think that is the soul reason many people dont care for him. My advice is to listen to him in a day where you are just relaxing and just hear what he has to say. I find him funny now because it makes a lot of great points about things and is very sarcastic
A lot of really popular comedians are atheists. Certainly didn't keep George Carlin from being one of the most popular ever, or Louis C.K. from being the most popular now. You can't really quantify funny. Some people will like his jokes, others won't, and no him being an atheist doesn't have a damn thing to do with it. I personally find Patton to be really funny.
Well, whatever floats your boat.
Alie Labamba Buoyancy is what floats my boat. I don't know about you.

Lol Galileo had nothing to do with us realizing the earth was round. He studied the movement of the planets (which were already well known to be round), not the georgraphy of the earth. People in the ancient Mediterranean knew the Earth was round 2000 years before Galileo was even born.
ManaGlassStudio That is a pretty ignorant statement on many levels. America has it's fair share of religious nuts, but it's nothing compared to, I don't know, Israel? And take your pick out of the predominantly Muslim countries. Which, I'm sure you have no clue which country actually has the largest Muslim population. Also, you just embodied the stereotype previously mentioned. The know it all atheist. First of all, atheism isn't someone who does not believe. Atheism is a lack of belief. As in, you didn't make the choice to not believe, we made the choice to believe. But in the end, nobody knows why we're all on a rock flying through space or where it came from. A lot of my friends are atheists, and they're my friends because they're not judgmental, narrow minded people, and they recognize that just because I believe in something, doesn't mean we can coexist and get drunk playing CAH.
I just had to put my cat down. I needed this.
OK, ever since I heard this skit, years ago, I wanted to try one of these. My Mom likes them...so there ya go. I had one tonight...$3 special at KFC. It was...OK. But next time, I will just have a cheap $2.99 frozen TV dinner from the grocery store...any brand, any meal. It would be better than this. I should have gotten the "spicy" one...maybe more flavor.
The great gig in the sky reference was brilliant... lol 🤣
I guess that's what happens to your food when it lands in your stomach anyway. But still, who wants to eat a pile of food that looks like it's in your stomach?
Westernboy2008 My dog used to eat her own vomit sometimes. But then again, that's why I get to vote and she didn't.
One day, I will be famous for inventing the Oswalt Lunch Gun!
Oh, Patton Oswalt isnt funny? For all you people who OBVIOUSLY do not get the joke: its not about the failure bowl, its about the person eating it. Please think.
Yeah. Sure. Well thought out retort, my friend.
You used the parlance "tarded". Trust me even if you could manage to write an essay I would not read it. pfft.
...Says the guy who calls himself "StinkyCheese9999"....right. Oh no. You sure told me, StinkyCheese9999.
Good luck finding a job.
RSKullcrusha you're pathetic
OMG I love this bit, Patton Oswalt is the best!!!
This pairs nicely with his rant on steak restaurant buffet salad bars... 😁
I love his stuff!
" But I know you don't have a lunch gun. " LMAO
i just busted out laughing as soon as he startied talking
Those bowls are so damn good though.
From the people who brought you the idea of eating out of a bucket!
2021 famous bowl check in
I got stranded in New Mexico on route 66 in a small town. I had very little money and was there for over a week and I freaking LIVED OFF OF THOSE KFC BOWLS!! 😂 Best part about it.
Imagine having so much self respect that you took your Sadness Bowl™️ all the way home before eating it instead of just parking in the rain behind the abandoned furniture store next to the KFC
Your show of empathy is remarkable, and I thank you for the warm welcome to the internet.
A failure pile in a sadness bowl!!! Genius!
"failure pile in a sadness bowl" HILARTOUS
Man...they used to have these at Publix as a hungry man TV dinners but I can't find them anymore. It is possible to create them yourself from frozen chicken, corn, and those ready to eat mashed potatoe things though and they're fucking great. I've forgotten the gravy though I need to figure that part out.
His CD "Werewolves & Lollipops" is really good.
Even as a non American, his satire about Bush is hilarious.
LMAO i LOVE the "LUNCH GUN"
Patton being out of breath during this is a nice little touch
Don't forget the cheese! It's the finishing touch to this hilarious monstrosity. 🤣
wheres the bit where he sings "happy birthday im 43" thats the most hilarious bit
Love Patton! Looking forward to his new movie.
They're really awesome though 😂😂😂😂
I got a failure pile in a sadness bowl with extra gravy 10 minutes ago. I love these things
*Failure Pile in a Sadness Bowl*...too funny!!!
Patton it's famous for a reason, America loves its famous things. They wouldn't call famous for no reason at all of course its great
“Failure pile in a sadness bowl” is rather applicable to a lot of things in life
On a related note, Jack in the Box used to have a Hearty Breakfast Bowl that was fantastic. I think they still offer the bowl in general, just not the specific one I’m thinking about
Patton my man!!!!!
Patton Oswalt is AWESOME!!! His genuis transcends many media mediums! He is...Famous Mortimer!! I will eat Sky Cake with him anyday!!
While listening to great gig in the sky at 2am lmao
I didn't like him on that TV show but he is AWESOME at standup !!! I never realized how funny he is.
OMG The add which ran at the end of this video for me was KFC Bowls for five bucks 😂
rofl the bowl playing great gig in the sky.......that's too funny.
It's art, my dear. The entire point of art and comedy is that it's not censored.
Haha! This video is in Michael Jackson's Favorites.
Yeah hahahhaha
the hospital i work at actually have their own version of a KFC bowl. its mashed potatoes, corn, and like these little chicken nugget/tender things, with gravy on top.
i just started working there like 6-7 months ago, and i remember the first time they served this for dinner, I thought of this bit and said to the lunchlady or whatever:
instead of a bowl, could I have this on a plate, since I'm an adult with dignity and self-respect?
that was a good day.
i like patton oswalt because you actually have to be smart to understand the humor
this joke gets a lot of mileage when you actually listen to the great gig in the sky and picture some guy eating one of those bowls the way he describes it. i highly recommend it. in fact, someone needs to make a video of this set to that song immediately.
To hell with all my motivational speaker DVDs. I give up. Fuck it. Everything Patton says is directly applicable to me.
"...the gravy filled mound of despair..."
nice. as funny as anything patton says to describe it. also, he forgot THE CHEESE ON TOP, which is the one bonus ingredient that makes it not just revolting but spectacular.
