This is a stunning quilt. It's amazing how relatively simple it is to cut, stitch, and assemble compared to other quilt patterns. The fabrics are gorgeous, and they complement each other so well in the way that Donna has paired the lights and darks. When I saw the finished quilt it took my breath away. The incandescent color scheme immediately brought to mind the title of a book of poetry by Rod McKuen, "Listen To The Warm".
Have you ever heard of starching your fabric before cutting it? I don’t pre-wash my fabric, so the sizing is still in the fabric, but the last quilt I made I used spray starch on all the fabric when I ironed it and it greatly reduced stretching and misshaping of the fabric from handling and piecing it, which made a huge difference in matching up my points, especially on bias cuts. And, there are spray starches that leave no flakey residue. They are asually in pump bottles as opposed to spray cans. I will always starch my fabric from now on.
I laid out my squares tonight on my big dining room table so I could spread out. What beautiful fabrics and they are and the lay so flat and are exactly the same size. I don't sew very straight so I decided to make my own 8 inch "triangle paper" because I want this to turn out as beautiful as Donna's did. So nice to just sit down and sew...but no scraps to play with!!!
I have made 5 of these now using Kaffe's fabric. All were gifts and seemed to be loved by the recipients. It would be fun to see one done with ten black fabrics and ten lighter prints. I might try that. I have also used 4 inch squares for a baby quilt using the.leftovers. it was adorable. Keep those videos coming! I keep requesting chopsticks. Maybe soon?
I really appreciate the way you teach quilting. The videos are sprinkled with sewing tips that help improve results: use a weight to stabilize the cutting ruler, chain piecing and something I use all the time now, finger pressing even when the piece will be pressed almost at once. What an improvement in my accuracy! Thanks!
Kaffe is one of my absolute favourite designers. I have had the opportunity to take several classes with him and Brandon. Fantastic quilt!!! I WANT a kit xxx Actually I just purchased it
Such clear instruction and really useful tips and tricks! Can't thank you enough! Stunning and simple pattern that looks complex when finished! Thank you and thanks for making the PDF available for free.
If you cut your squares 7" INSTEAD of 8," you can get the 6 fabric squares needed from a fat-quarter instead of having to use 1/2 yds. Cut the fq into two 7" width wise strips then sub cut those into six 7" blocks. Use 20 fqs: Ten lighter and ten darker. This quilt would finish at about 73" x 73", 12 rows by 12 rows. Each block finishes at 6 1/8".
Donna, can you make an Abundance quilt and tie this quilt. I really liked how you demonstrate how to tie the Trip Around the World quilt. I really found the way you tied this quilt so much easier and smoother. I truly enjoy watching your videos you explain so well how to construct the quilts, tools used, tips that are very useful. Thanks
Thank you again, Donna, for another enjoyable tutorial. You method of teaching is very concise, and while friendly, never too wordy. Of course, the results speak for themselves!
I watch a lot...of instructional videos and you are by far my favorite.I have been quilting for less than a year and have learned a lot from you.it's never too late to start .I started at age 65.
I just watched your video "Kaffee Fassett Pillows" where you used the leftover 4" squares from this project to make two gorgeous pillows. I loved both pillows and thought the design of the second one was very interesting. I especially liked the plum-colored grunge fabric you used for the second pillow.
Donna, it makes ME happy to watch your YT videos. Your cheerful facial expressions and voice inflection as you explain things leave me with a pleased smile on my face and twinkle in my eyes. They come across as so natural and unaffected, not unlike a favorite grade school teacher I had who enjoyed sharing her enthusiasm for whatever she taught that day. Now I see your "producer" even chose music with Happy in the title. Today's tip about cutting up the remaining fabric into uniform pieces/squares while it's all still lined up accurately was great info. By knowing I'll already have exact sized patches of fabric in my stash eases whatever stress I might have in spending extra money to buy more than just the exact requirements for a pattern. Now when I shop I can think of every extra quarter to third yard of fabric I buy "just in case" as fabric I KNOW will eventually be used building myself a kit for a future scrappy quilt.
I love all your videos, thank you Donna. You’re a wonderful teacher and this is a great quilt. BUT, being a ‘Kaffe fabricaholic’, it makes me so frustrated that I can’t just go to your store and shop the way you do!!! BUT, I’m building quite a stash, so maybe soon I’ll have almost as many fabrics as you do!!! HaHa😂.
You did it again, Donna! I love your amazing Kaffe fabric and color selections to make another stunning quilt! I love the dark darks to really make the brights stand out. And as always you provided helpful tips.
What a big bold quilt! I love all the colors and fabrics that were used. The more color, the better! Thank you for putting together the tutorial on this quilt. You always make things seem achievable with your tutorials.
You are such an amazing instructor and quilt maker. I would love to have all those Kaffe fabrics to play with! He’s my favorite. Great job. The quilt is beautiful. Thank you for sharing your talents and tips with all of us. 💝💙💜💛
i love Kaffe Fassett fabrics and have a stash of them so am thinking to make this quilt it may be a bit smaller though but the same design scheme will work I'm sure. thanks for all the useful tips too.
❤️ Just stumbled onto Jordan Fabric video the other day. Thanks for demystifying quilting. I love the Kaffe Fassett Fabrics and hope you have this Abundance in a kit. I’m learning how to post on RUclips so sorry I wrote it a couple of times in different areas. I’ll master this too. Love you guys
Wow. Beautiful colors. You put a lot of time and work onto this. I gave up (in my mind) seeing how many blocks you had to sew. It payed off. One of a kind.
I used 20 fabrics to make 10 different block combinations. There are 12 blocks in each combination. This is one of those quilts that looks way more complex than it really is - and those are the kinds of quilts I love best!
I also avoid these types of fabrics. I appreciate your example. It helps me to be able to envision the possibilities. It also makes me feel more confident and gives me the desire to experiment with some of those scary loud prints. LETS EXPERIMENT!
I never used to be a Kaffe Fassett fan, but watching your video tutorials using it, has brought me around to the "bright" side, lol. Thanks for the informative, upbeat videos.
Love the finished project - I'm a bit apprehensive when it comes to "multiple graphic fabrics," but this tutorial has given me the courage to give it a go. Thank you.
QNewbeequilter I totally agree with you. Over the wee k I watched many other videos. LOL many were JellyRoll race quilt. In one class I left a note telling them to watch one of DonnasVideo.. Several quilts were as they were making their quilts I was sitting here don't go any farther go watch Donna. Oh I'm sitting here smiling from ear to ear.
I love the quilt and design. I would still use different fabrics, there are very few Kaffe fabrics that I think are pretty. But it's nice to see something different
Donna am new in your show.A love watching your videos and I really learned so much how sewing. Thanks for your explaining and cheered your experience with your loved.
A beautiful quilt ... a bit bold for my taste, but still beautiful. A smaller version of all those bright colors would be perfect for a toddler or little one learning to explore the world of color. Their little eyes always brighten up when they see them. Love the secondary pattern, almost like the ripple in a pool of water. Great job, as always. (I see you made this in December 2017 ... if it were not dated, I would not know the difference ... you never change.)
Me gusta mucho su trabajo que COSAS tan bonitas elabora lástima que no hablo inglés pero con sólo verla se entiende que dios la bendiga para que nos siga enseñando tan bello trabajo Saludos desde Hermosillo sonora Mexico....
I just started a smaller version of this with bold prints but in neutral colors: black, brown, beige, and white. Not as exciting as yours, but it looks like it's going to be modern and beautiful!
I zoomed in to this video this morning after seeing your daily email. What a fabulous find. I see you made this in December 2017 !!! Thank you for showing it again. I definitely want to make this one and i appreciate that half yards can be purchased and cut and the pieces over can be cut and saved for another project. Where i live at the botton cnr of SA it takes a while to find appropriate fabrics. Do you have any outlets for your fabric in SA ? Perhaps i could purchase on line. This video has me real happy. Thank you for sharing everything.🌻
You made this look easier than I expected it to be ❤️😘 Please have a joyous Christmas and extra good wishes go to you and Matt for the new space, may it be perfect!
Love that quilt
I just love this. I love the way not only give us the instructions in simple slow terms, but also give us some great short cuts! Thanks

Fabulous pattern. I have a bunch of Kaffe in my stash.
Wonderful. The colours are extreme but go together. It is truly a 'happy' quilt design. Thank you

I feel the same about Donna’s tutorials. Truly brilliant!
I love this quilt. I bought the Kaffe Fassett fabric to make it. Love your videos. I may take the leftovers to make a couple baby blankets. So fun!
Kaffe is one of my absolute favourite designers. I have had the opportunity to take several classes with him and Brandon. Fantastic quilt!!! I WANT a kit xxx Actually I just purchased it
Thank you so much!
@@jordanfabrics8380 I don't know where to get this kit.?? I want to purchase today!
Such clear instruction and really useful tips and tricks! Can't thank you enough! Stunning and simple pattern that looks complex when finished! Thank you and thanks for making the PDF available for free.
Love Donna's usual clear instructions leaving me leaving me wanting to make this quilt. I don't care for the music - Something calm and quiet is nice.
