      I haven't either.
      I just stack squares in order. No ripping at all.
      I used Eleanor Burns book Trip Around the World.
      But, ended up with the same quilt design.

    • @mjp5129
      @mjp5129 5 месяцев назад

      @@ellenhofer3343 Eleanor didn’t rip the seams. She cut on the seam lines, but made and laid out the same way. Just watched her again. Made one that way, when I first started quilting. Turned out beautiful. I don’t know, I think I like this better. Eleanor did sew the tube together, before sub cutting. That’s the only thing I would do differently. Just personal preference. Less sewing. Love this quilt.

    This was an awesome tutorial! The way you explained the Trip quilt took out the intimidation factor that always held me back from attempting it. Thank you, and thank you for treating quilting as something should be a fun and creative process, and not like it's a mathematically scientific one! :)

  • @dorothyyoung8231
    @dorothyyoung8231 Год назад +18

    Yes, using a focus fabric is a great way to select other fabrics. But you’re missing a free tool for selecting coordinating fabrics right on the selvage of the focus fabric: the color dots or “registration marks” are the actual colors of ink used to print the focus fabric. So use the focus fabric’s registration marks rather than looking at the whole fabric to pick your coordinating fabrics!

    • @merrymabelmarket
      @merrymabelmarket  Год назад +17

      I find that when I'm doing a "trip quilt" the color dots aren't what I'm going for. Sometimes a little "clash" makes the trip happier. So, I use the whole fabric on purpose so that I can feel the colors bigger and see how they will play together.

    • @cariwaldick4898
      @cariwaldick4898 Год назад +5

      @@merrymabelmarket I agree. There's more to fabric choices than just color. There's pattern, style, hue, and a sort of attitude of the fabric. You chose fabrics that all had a light-hearted feel to them. You could have found a paisley, or gingham that matched the colors, but it wouldn't have fit the feel of the quilt.

    Lovely colors and layout, Your video makes it look so, so easy, which it probably is, but, my biggest hurtle is never having even one of the pretty colors... Yellow fabrics is one I never have enough of... anyhoo, thanks for sharing your project...

    I changed my fabric keeping, I had mine just like you. One on top of other, constantly needing to pull from middle.. ugh! I wrapped each in $1 store foam board and put it side by side like the store. It made a HUGE difference, it is now a joy to take or put back my fabrics that I decide on project. You decide on size. Beautiful quilt and color choices for your video quilt!!❤❤❤
