    I'm curious who calls a 3x3 ft piece of half inch plate scrap? Around here metal suppliers are currently calling it 300 bucks!! Lol Great idea with the clamps though!

    • @BrandonLund
      @BrandonLund  3 года назад +9

      Thanks man! Yah my local shop has piles of scrap that they were selling for 25 cents a pound. I'm not sure how they determine what gets sold by the pound vs by the foot but I think I paid somewhete around 30 bucks for it 😎

    • @PFab

    Quick tip, McMaster-Carr part number 6628K324 is an undersized 1144 steel 5/8" rod. A foot of it is just under $7. That and a pack of 5/8 ID washers welded on top of the cut pieces and you have your mounting stubs for about $0.75 each.

      I had an account there about 15 years ago. I never thought about re opening it until you mentioned it. We have a distributor about an hour away. That place is dangerous to my wallet. When you mentioned renting the drill, it gave me hope! I don't even know if they rent them in Boise but I bet they do. I can afford at least one 5/8 cutter so if I can find a 3/8 plate, I'm in business. Thanks for another great video.

    Brandon, these clamps are awesome. I knew I saw this video last year, but a refresher is always good! I tried to source those shoulder bolts locally back then without much success on Amazon. I went looking again today. Best price I could find was $5.84 each! Worst price was $19.13 each!!!!! Our Princess Auto (very similar to Harbor Freight) Has a 24' x 36" fab table with the holes already drilled. It is only about 1/4" thick for $319.00. I think it will work for light fabrication stuff.

    To keep the slope and finger gap, offsetting the cut using a straight edge (or the speed square) pivoted around the fixed jaw's point of contact might have allowed you to maintain more of the adjustability range and bottom out at when the clamp is set at it's tightest rather than before. At 9:35, it kinda looks like the slope that was cut resulted in the jaw bottoming out prematurely and thus reducing maximum opening.

    • @BrandonLund
      @BrandonLund  3 года назад +1

      I fiddled with it and ground a little off the end where it pivots. They probably should have done that from the factory.

    I use Vaseline for nozzle dip, found out it keeps it cleaner then the blue dye and it's alote cheaper. Can't use it at work bc it's not (AWS) approved. So I use at home. Good tips Brandon 👍

    Nice project , I have about a 3 foot round by 1/2 inch plate do you think it would work for a table like yours? Also have you tested your new welder for any leeks ? Hay I finally got a plasma cutter Its a slightly used Thermal Dynamics Pak Master 25 it was given to me YAY ! Stay safe. TANK

    • @BrandonLund
      @BrandonLund  3 года назад +1

      Yes, absolutely! We have a local machine shop that uses 3' round fixture plates and they love them. You wont have any issues with that Thermal Dynamics. It's a nice rig

    • @BrandonLund
      @BrandonLund  3 года назад +1

      Oh, and to answer your question about leaks...the other night I was laying in bed and though "hmmmm did I close the valve on the tank"? It had been 3 days since I last used the machine. It was bugging me so at 2am I got up and went into the shop...NOPE it was wide open. Lucky for me Fronius has good quality control. No leaks! You much have seen the video of my budget welder that leaked like sieve!

    Never open the bottle all the way, you just need to crack it open barely !!! In saying that, great project! Been doing this exact thing for friggin years, save a shit load of cash!

    • @BrandonLund
      @BrandonLund  2 года назад

      Non flammable gas bottles have back sealing valves. For the valve to be seated it has to be opened fully Flammable gasses are the opposite. You open them a minimal amount so in the event there is a problem, the valve can be closed quickly.

    • @BUZDRIFT
      @BUZDRIFT 2 года назад

      @@BrandonLund I know, but I still do this with argon o2 mix anyway, there's 2000 plus psi in the bottle, you really don't need to open it all the way, ever, not for mig or tig! I've never run into gas starvation on non-flammable mixes! In a possible emergency, you're left closing the bottle for 10 plus seconds...

    • @BrandonLund
      @BrandonLund  2 года назад

      I don't think it's a matter of gas starvation, I think has to do with sealing the stem of the valve from gas leaking by. It's how I was taught so thats how I do it.

    • @BUZDRIFT
      @BUZDRIFT 2 года назад

      @@BrandonLund That's the thing isn't it, you're not doing the wrong thing as that's what you were taught, same goes here with me, was taught that it's not necessary to open the valve all the way. I think this is a case of different strokes for different folks!

I've used Lincoln and Miller's small portable wire feeders but they always crap out on me. Based on everything I've heard this is the next brand to try, everyone talks wonders about it. Can't wait to get mines
      Thanks

    • @BrandonLund
      @BrandonLund  3 года назад

      You will love it. I think it's Austrian. Every welder is calibrated and certified with the date and who certified it before it leaves the facility. I cant say enough about mine. I love it. The stinger is laser engraved with a QR code as is a lot of the components to make things easy to replace parts. Fronius is next level.
