He was
Remember when she tell Artreus to destroy that Arrow
@@apexpredatorx7840 looked like he was pissed off and about to rip the arrow out to start fighting.
@@sumbigdumkunt i figured hes more ecstatic to have a fight he can finally feel
@@friccle_ yeah absolutely, but these dudes are implying he ran in to hug Atreus or something lmao
Plot twist: when Baldur was approaching kratos because he felt something, he was actually trying to say thanks to him, until freya stopped them
I honestly think that was what happened. Baldur was actual started out kind until agony of unable to feel drove him insane. So when Artreus broke the spell for him, I thought he is actually going to thank him and then walk away happy. But then Freya had to butt in and reminded him about the feeling of hate again and the fight continued
@@x3dgame123 That's clearly not the case, since he clenches his fists and cracks his knuckles. He fully intended to slaughter them both to pay them back for their slights against him. Baldur was driven to insane rage not only due to the sensory deprivation, but also due to the fact that there is not risk or challenge to combat. That's why he throws himself at any chance to fight, in the hope that he'll be able to feel something in a fight. Baldur planned to kill Kratos, Atreus, and Freya, in order to finally tie up all his loose ends.
@@manuelmateo3392 It looks like he was just about to take off the piece of shard stuck in his fists and hug them
@@jeybrydoesthings4415 He was cracking his knuckles, since he visibly folds his left hand into a fist. His posture also shows that he's getting ready to fight them, and he never outstretches his arms in a show of peace or anything like it. In fact, if he really did want to show them gratitude, he would've thanked them before he advanced, but the only thing on his mind was finally killing them both after all the trouble they put him through (and for his first real fight), and killing Freya afterwards.
Why baldur is powerful why at the start he doesn't feel pain from kratos punches
Breathe *BOI* ...breathe!
Breath as in breath of the wild.

@THX22 Hello there
Sindri knew baldur's weakness. It can't just be by chance that he would happen to give atreus mistletoe arrows, which would make baldur vulnerable.
He gave it because it was more powerful than normal arrows
It's not Baldur's weakness, it was what was going to break the spell. It's rather what Baldur needed.
I re-played GOW again last week and now I remember Freya telling Atreus not to use mistletoe arrows because they're wicked, covered in "bad" magic or something. Just now I realize she was trying to protect Baldur.
Sindri didn't know that. Because other way why Sindri just didn't give the arrows directly to Baldur instead a long time ago already?
@@HazerV2 so his weakness
To be honest though I fought baldur's death was pointless until he tried to kill freya. He just wanted to feel again, at leaat thats how I saw it. Sure he did attack Kratos but he still was very upset about the fact that he was immortal. So after breaking the spell he is finally set free to live how he wants and die how he wants.
MaNayme IsChef i think after you right
Why is it pointless? Baldurs quest isnt to feel again. He was after Kratos' wife, because Odin wanted her. She was the last of the Jötun. He didn't know she was dead tho. And seeing Atreus is her offspring, Odin would have wanted him too eventually. So it was either killing Baldur or losing his son.
eren ozdemir Well I didn't know he followed odins order because he seamed strong and reckless enough to take on anybody. I fought he was a guy who only followed his own rules.
The thing is that is how I understood the quest of Baldur. Eventho I think that is the reason Odin sent Baldur, he might have told Baldur that killing Kratos will make him feel again. But when Kratos and Atreus are in Jötunheim and they see the paintings on the walls, Kratos says: 'Baldur was never sent to find me, he was tracking her all along not knowing she is only ashes.' So his real "hidden" quest was finding Kratos' wife.
eren ozdemir Yeah which led him to kratos, kratos presense always fucks up destiny. Like he was creates to fuck with the gods and their minions. In 1 Hand yes kratos did help find baldur his long sought death in the other he sadly was still vegencefull towards his mother, which made me consider him being actually still good at heart. Sadly he couldn't forgive his Mother for protecting him. Btw is it states in the game that Freya knew Baldur's death would lead to ragnarok?
Baldur: So this is what it's like to take damage. THIS IS PAIN!
Overlord reference. Respect
But he already knew pain wasn't he?

vaclav baldur was going to kill them even if freya did nothing he does thank them...... will he is attempting
to kill them and if you look closely it seems that baldur was about to charge at kratos and atreus
What’s dumb is they only said that he can’t feel pain but that’s it, death and feeling are 2 different things you can hit but not feel it but your body still gets punched
sulsty baldur is invulnerable and feeling nothing is a side effect of that
I love how this game respected Baldur's original Norse story. His mother loved her son so much she put a spell on him and told all living things and objects "Never hurt Baldur" she told all but one: The mistletoe. She saw it as too tiny and fragile to hurt him so she didn't bother to tell the mistletoe. Baldur was eventually killed at a party being thrown by the Norse Gods. There was a contest to see who could hurt Baldur the most, with no thing working, however, Loki had followed Baldurs mother while she told all objects about him, and saw she never told the mistletoe. At the party, a blind man was asked to hurt Baldur with an arrow, and Loki gave him an arrow made of mistletoe. Everyone laughed at the blind man as they said he could never hurt Baldur. The blind man shot the arrow and to everyone's surprise, it pierced Baldur's heart, and killed him.
Magnus Malo is this a history or mythology
Julius Apollo Ambit so loki is atreus when he grown up he became loki the mischief god
Ayman Hunterz what? No. Loki can transform in everything, even humans and gods. He made himself look like Arteus
SzalonaSam did you not listen to the later conversation between Atreus and Kratos?? Loki is not making himself look like Atreus. His mother intended for his name to be Loki, but Kratos objected to it, and wanted to name him Atreus. There's no Loki shenanigans here or disguise.
NickAndrewx ??? I think you're talking about the game, but I was talking about mythology, not the game
I just want to applaud this game for giving Baldur the spotlight. He NEVER had a chance to shine, even in his own myth. Finally, we get to see what the invincible Son of Odin can do!
yea well he died.
AC Valhalla did him dirty by killing Baldur off screen
That’s what made this game so good. It’s an extremely intimate story between Kratos, Atreus and baldur. It’s also no surprise that Baldur is not too dissimilar from kratos when he was a younger god and just murdering his own family because of what they did to him.
I think it works beautifully to have an older now much wiser kratos have to be forced to fight someone like baldur who’s absolutely unrelenting and insane, and can’t be killed. It’s the perfect antagonist for Kratos.
He's honestly so cool in this game. His look, his voice actor, his demeanor, his powers... Super sick dude 👍
The most tragic thing about this is that Baldur could have just walked away. He could finally feel again and had the chance to start a new life but he couldn't let go of his hatred for Freya.
I don't blame him
Centuries of feeling nothing has driven him insane. Hate and letting that hate spill to the earth was what kept him going...
It's something you can't let go at a moment's notice..
He's too far gone at this point. If this was pre-Helheim Baldur it might have been different
I dont blame him. Hate is stronger than anything I can tell
Yeah hate blinded him... but also if he just “walked away”, it would make odin and thor quite upset... specially thor... dude is a maniac...
@@CrystallizedBlackSkull as Kratos himself has said, "Hate is stronger than Duty."
I don’t really care that Freya loves her son so much. Her making him invincible and unaccountable for the pain he caused makes her responsible for his actions as well. Additionally she would rather Atreus and kratos die then let her son die. Heck she’d rather everyone die before her son feels pain. Her love go’s beyond a mother’s caring love. It goes obsession level.
It’s selfish. It was never truly about sparing him from the cold of death, but herself from the pain of loss…

You're already an embarassment to Valhalla's Code of Fight Club, so why not go for the High Score?
Rule no#???. Giving your opponent in a fight a handicap is a proof that you are badass enough. If people give you handicap, that means your opponents think you're a mommy boy.

Also their minions : "he told us to be brave and dare to die, while he sit in his invincibility chair, what a leader we have. He is ThE DeFiNiTiOn Of SuPeR ChAd."
See... This is why Baldur hates his mother.
And he is also ridiculed at Valhalla Fight Club, he can join, sure, but whatever his fight results, the acknowledged results will always be the same.
Let's assume there is a tournament, with 8 chars.
Baldur 3 win, should be champion, but...
Thor 2 win, 1 lose from Baldur, officially Runner up, but no, he is the acknowledged champion in the fight club.
Loki 1 win, 1 lose, and then win again placing him on 3rd, but now 2nd in their heart.
And so on.
See, Baldur is basically disqualified and dishonored, he is no longer brave Valhalla Gods, just invincible Mommy boy in Valhalla Fight Club (which prides itself in Valor).

Baldur's story was so sad and there was no redemption for him, it made me really sad.
I was totally expecting Baldur to cease the fighting with Kratos and Artreus after he finally gained what he wanted, especially since they were the cause of the spell breaking.

He didn't want to fight with them he only wanted to kill Freya but they didn't let him had his revenge
Baldur had orders from Odin to get Faye, cuz Odin knows she's a giant and can get him to Jotunheim. However, both Odin/Baldur don't realize she's dead, and just think Kratos and son are hiding her, so that's why Baldur keeps coming for the pair. Baldur was looking to break his curse when he went to Kratos home. He thought he was a giant ("I thought you will be taller"). There is some really good story here.
A mother wishes to shield her son from pain, this causes him to grow up as a twisted sociopath having been denied necessary if unpleasant parts of life.
So its up to the older, wiser man to stop this murderous son from destroying everything.
Not only unpleasant parts - he was denied from all parts. He couldn't feel neither pain nor pleasure, no taste, no smell, no feeling, not any kind of "response" from contacting the world. It is like being forever kept in a cell, with ability to only see the reality through the metal bars. For centuries. That is why Baldur became obsessed with hatred, even though initially he was quite kind and rational god. That is also why he sought with with Kratos - he knew that Kratos is a killer of gods and hoped that maybe that person would finally make Baldur feel anything.

In norse mythology. Loki's pranks went too far that he actually tried to fake baldur's death, he made an arrow from a specific tree sap that made him vulnerable to attacks. But he accidentally killed him.
"Accidentally".
*"ACCIDENTALLY"*
I support the aspect that says Baldur was just going to thank them and be on their merry way. I know he followed and attacked them (kratos killed one god for just teasing him) but if he appreciated what they did and saw no reason to go after them what was the problem.
The only motivation I can think of in that light was aside from if Boy fell sick again he was trying to return the favor by saving Freya.
Exactly. Kratos liked Freya and owed her. He couldn't stand by and watch her crazy herself to death.
Let's be clear, Freya is the villain of God of War 2018.
@@hagamapama I can agree until the ragnorok game.
I’m not arguing she’s the villain of that game but she does redeem herself in the second game.
@@Reviewer2016That's why I said "God of War 2018." That first game was about peeling back the layers of Freya and perhaps not unexpectedly finding yet another monstrous god at the center.
Freya does a lot to redeem herself in the second game and has many good and great qualities even in 2018, but she was still ultimately the villain of the story of the first game.
One of the best arcs in Ragnarok is Freya finding her own monster inside herself, deciding that she didn't like how that felt, and coming to rely on Kratos of all people to learn, as he learned, how to not be that person anymore.
This is why Kratos and Freya understand each other so well. They each walked down the monstrous path with every step paved with good intentions and now they're there to pull each other back onto a better path when they stumble.

God, what a boss fight.
I kind of wish we were not allowed to kill balder In this game
I know it would be anti climactic but It would make sense that he would want to thank both of them
If it wasn’t for Freya’s intervention in all of this
Baldur wouldn’t have been able to directly hit Atreus
Freya deserved every bit of pain here.
Freya was the villain of that game.
I wonder what Baldur “felt” when he had the curse. Was it like anesthesia and he just felt numb and drowsy. Maybe it’s the same feeling as when your circulation is cut from your leg and it’s just feels funny.
There's literally no feeling
He feels nothing lol
That's the interesting part. Baldur did grunt & yell whenever he was fighting Kratos earlier in the game but at the same time, claimed not to be able to feel anything. If he could feel nothing, why would Baldur even make any sort of noise relating to physical strain when put into a situation that should call for it? Either Baldur was lying and did at least feel some level of sensation or perhaps his physical pain was converted into a non-physical type such as emotional/psychological pain. The game doesn't make it abundantly clear though due to certain cutscenes seeming to contradict what has been said.
@@darinlunderman8063 Most likely just exertion. Even if you were fully numb you would still lose your breath.

I don't think he was cracking his knuckles or advancing to fight. I think he was going to tell Kratos or Atreus to take the dagger out and use it on him again.
When Freya screamed NO , she knew Baldur was just about to die
I love Baldur, He is my favorite Norse God
Had Freya not re - escalated
(Walks up) “…..Thank you both. I also “ feel” gratitude now. Sorry about running up on you at your house, we cool Oden bless” the end
Unfortunately he can't do that because he is now desperate to kill Freya because the moment this calms down she'll try to put the spell back. If he kills her now before she can do that, he's free. Baldur is so completely understandable after the spell is broken that he almost stops being a villain in the first place.
The best example of gods being selfish idiots.
Freya still thinks that she was in the right. After Baldur tried to kill her, hated her, cursed her, abandoned her and was happy when the spell was broken. She still thought she did the right thing by destroying his life.
It would be an intersting retcon if baldur was vulnerable to the blades of chaos, since in the original myth freya made everything in the 9 realms promise not to harm baldur, except mistletoe. But the blades are not from the 9 realms. Would be an interesting scene.
Yeah but the blades are powered by Primordial fire. It's from a different realm, but it's the same thing found in the 9 realms, as confirmed by Surtur. So in that sense, the Blades shouldn't harm Baldur either.
1:27 it looked like if Baldur was actually going to thank them, but Freya fucked it up
No, he was definitely trying to kill them.
TitanGT66 look at his gestues, that is definatly not an fighting stance, also, look at Baldur's face that is clearly the face of joy not the face of wanting to continue a fight
No, his facial expression from 1:00-1:20 was pure joy. And that expression completely changed back to original face at 1:23 . Think about it, you don't walk towards someone to thank them after you were trying to kill them ever since you first met them. He would have thanked them from where he was standing. Even Kratos raised his axe in response to Baldur moving towards them, and Freya knew the fight was going to continue. If he were just going to thank them, he wouldn't have responded "No! Mother!!!" when Freya stopped him from moving. In a culture like this, warriors like to die in battle against worthy opponents. Which is why he was telling Kratos "c'mon, do it" while Kratos was choking him later. Not just that but Baldur again attacked them after Freya moved them away from him. He literally charged right at Kratos even though they didn't attack him yet ever since he became vulnerable, so he would have no reason to just change his mind because of Freya. So why would he go from wanting to thank them and not fight anymore, to immediately wanting to fight again moments later? That makes no sense lol. And he did end up thanking them when he had Kratos pinned and held Atreus by the neck. The only chance they ever had of Baldur not coming after them anymore might have been when and if Kratos had let him kill Freya.
@@TitanGT66 I don’t see it like that, I understand your view point and you may be right but to me, that looked like a passive stance and definitely looked like a thank you. Or alternatively maybe he was happy and appreciative but wanted death so he tried to force Kratos to do so.
I actually feel bad for baldur never feeling anything and being unable to die would drive the most rational person insane to never feel taste smell only to observe and hear things but never feel or die would be horrible
Last words: snow
What if Baldur was trying to hug Kratos as thanks for allowing him to feel again
I blamed fraye for making baldur a villain
In this scene imagine if baldur actually became friends with kratos and kratos sympathies with him because baldur is pretty much like kratos he was cursed and served the gods to no avail just like kratos and he stay alive in ragnarok and internationally kills himself as revenge against odin and freya because baldurs death will most definitely hurt freya and would bring fimbulwinter
I just wish they somehow bring him back to life because as much as i despise the newer god of war games i love how the story is paced how baldurs character was baldur was hermes but 100000000x better
So loki tricked him....
Freya is a over protective mother
Zack Smith What over protective mother make her kid feel no pain for a hundred years?
Zack Smith being overly dramatic and protective are different things
@@fifth6150 Freya is definition of Overprotective and selfish. She values her own selfish wants for her son more than what her son actually wants in life.
baldur: thanks for lifting the spell for me guys! i'll be on my way now!
As you can see, Baldur is now vulnerable...
to all threats physical and magical.
1:19 Baldur my guy you could’ve just walked away
Baldur is vulnerable to mistletoe
Is it bad that i felt happy for baldur when he could feel
