I'm sure others have said this, but Lt Michael Murphy posthumously was awarded a medal of honor, which incase you don't know, is America's highest military honor, for his actions that day by going out on that ledge to make the call. He actually did end that call by saying "thank you, sir".
Mike Murphy was from Long Island where I’ve lived all my life. They made a Navy cadet museum in his name in his home town. I donated to the construction of that museum and his father sent me a hand written thank you letter to me. I have it framed on my wall. Mike Murphy was more than just a heroic warrior. When he was in high school, he stuck up for a kid who was being bullied for having a mental disability. Physically pulled off his bullies after they shoved him into a locker. Also defended a homeless man being attacked while collecting bottles. He made an impossible decision to let those goat shepherds go because he just couldn’t risk killing unarmed civilians. Just an amazing soul all around. Most of us can never be Navy SEALS but we can all strive to be like Murph in other ways.
@@melvinturman5883 That's one way to look at it. Another way is that he told their story to millions of people. People who most likely would have never known of them. Marcus also gives a lot to charity. I served nearly a decade in the Marines, and I would not be mad if a fellow brother made a movie about our time in Fallujah if it was done tastefully, which Lone Survivor was IMO.

I always blubber like a baby when they show the pictures at the end, especially when they show the pictures of Lt. Michael P. Murphy, a true American hero!
This movie, in addition to the great realism it has, also has the most impressive and realistic falls that I have seen in the entire history of cinema, no scene of people falling surpasses this one
That's because the falls were real, go back and read how it was shot and you will be amazed at the courage and willingness of the actors and stuntmen to get it right. The multiple jumps and falls did happen and they wanted to portray as accurately as possible how harrowing and painful it was.. I'd say mission accomplished. 💯🔥👍😎
Thats because Luttrell was on set and Mark Walberg wanted to give him a movie that he could be proud of it representing him and his fellow brothers that died.
Interesting fact, in the opening scenes of the movie, at the end of the PT run and sitting around the table at the base, the guy sitting with the black beanie and sunglasses IS Marcus Luttrell. He also appears in the scene on the helo that got shot down.
One of the toughest movies to watch imo, so well done n acted, my chest is in knots the entire time.. RIP to all of the heroes that lost their lives that day, and any other day
I've only ever seen it once, which was when it first came out. I was a literal mess afterward. I had only been out of the Army for two years at that point. All these years later and I can only watch it through videos like these ladies have made.
In the book LONE SURVIVOR this battle was described as being a RUNNING GUN FIGHT THAT LASTED FOR OVER 2 HOURS. During these 2+ hours those 4 Navy SEALs were 75%-80% surrounded by an enemy force of 200+ taliban soldiers. These 4 Navy SEALs were taking fire from elevated positions from almost every direction. On top of the wounds they received from bullets and shrapnel from RPGs they were also constantly being peppered by the chips and shards of the granite they were using for cover from the Taliban soldiers when their shots missed the Navy SEALs. In the scenes of the movie where the SEALs are jumping and falling down the mountain that is not 100% accurate. In fact they jumped 3 times not 2 and the mountain was far more steeper then how it was portrayed in the movie. This was done because it was impossible to recreate the falls 100% accurately for the movie. Also in the book LONE SURVIVOR everytime they jumped down the mountain 1 or 2 of the SEALs broke a bone in their body. Michael Murphy fractured his face and Marcus Luttrell fractured multiple vertebrae in his spine. With all the wounds and broken bones these 4 Navy SEALs received Danny Dietz got the worst of it. He was shot 11 times. 1 SHOT IN THE LEFT ANKLE 1 SHOT IN THE RIGHT CALF 1 SHOT IN THE RIGHT THIGH 1 SHOT IN THE GROIN 2 SHOTS IN THE STOMACH 2 SHOTS IN THE THROAT 3 SHOTS IN THE HEAD Early in the battle Dietz right thumb was completely blown off and he had to shoot left handed from that point on. The movie shows him losing 3 fingers but thats incorrect. And lastly in 1 of the jumps off the mountain both of his legs were broken when the other 3 SEALs landed on top of him. From that point on Marcus Luttrell had to carry him down the mountain. For his actions in this battle Michael Murphy was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor for bravery and valor in combat. In the pictures shown at the end of the movie excluding Marcus Luttrell every man seen in the pictures we're killed during the mission Operation Red Wings. After numerous assassination attempts by the taliban Mohammed Gulab was relocated to the US in 2015 and currently lives in Texas with his wife and 7 children.
Mohammad Gulab after years of his village and family being attacked went into hiding. An immigration lawyer for free fought years to get him and his family citizenship in the US. He currently lives in Texas.

funny thing is as much compassion i feel for the lone survivor marcus luttrell, Americans invaded Afghanistan and not the other way round. So its more than black and white and much more sophisticated than what is being portrayed in the film. Human life is precious, on both sides. God bless.
It’s a sad reality most people don’t understand or care for. Soldiers are human to, they don’t always come home alive and they leave their families for long periods of time. Cherish these heroes
I remember this years ago, my family bought lone survivor and at the end my dad started crying saying my cousin died in that squad. I don't recall who exactly but they're in the squad and really makes me sad that he had to sacrifice himself for this.
Here in the states, we celebrate a holiday called Memorial Day at the end of every May. It is a day to recognize the sacrifice and remember the lives of soldiers lost in combat. Since 2005, there's been a tradition in fitness circles of doing a workout called "The Murph" on Memorial Day. It's named after Michael Murphy. The workout consists of a one-mile run followed by 100 pull-ups, 200 push-ups, 300 body-weight squats, and ends with another one-mile run -- all while wearing a 20-pound (9-kg) vest. It was Michael Murphy's favorite workout and it was named after him after he died. Beautiful reaction, ladies.
Fun fact, the real Marcus Luttrell was in the beginning of the movie when they were all sitting at the table. The bigger guy with the beard and sunglasses.
Just so you know, Marcus is still in 2022 trying to get the gentleman who helped him and his son to America. Neither speaks the others language but they will occasionally call each other just to know the other is there.
Amazing honest and emotional reaction, although I don't like to see you ladies cry it shows you are invested in the movie empathising with the characters
When they let the goat herders go, the old man turned back to them, and told them they’d die that night in Pashtun. Obviously they didn’t understand what he said, but that was a hard compromise they encountered. They definitely didn’t leave the team with any kind words
That little mantra you heard near the beginning was something of an initiation. A "rite of passage". Its a means of unit cohesion thats similar to an oath. Once you say it (and say it RIGHT the FIRST TIME), you're part of the family. Theyre your brothers. Your problems become their problems, their problems yours. Your enemies become their enemies and their enemies yours. You jeer each other, talk shit to them, piss each other off but at the end of the day when the bullets start flying, they will fight and die to keep you alive and you will do the same for them. The brotherhood in a unit is closer than flesh and blood family. Especially in a SEAL team or any other tier one special operations unit.
This was the first of, so far, 5 collaborations between Mark Wahlberg and the director, Peter Berg. After Lone Survivor, they went on to do two more true story movies. Deepwater Horizon (2016), about the oil rig explosion in April, 2010. Patriots Day (2016), about the Boston Marathon bombings in April, 2013 and the manhunt for the two perpetrators. Mile 22 (2018), their first fictional movie about a prisoner with sensitive information. Their most recent collab was Spenser Confidential (2020) about two detectives hunting down dirty Boston cops.
These soldiers volunteered to serve their country, and they _want_ these missions. They prepared hard to be ready, and they know the risks - they're just a different breed of human.
At the very beginning of the movie where the men in white shirts were laying down in water, that was real footage of B.U.D.S (Basic Underwater Demolition School) which is the initial training they have to go through to become a SEAL and it lasts for 6 months straight. Arguably the most difficult military training in the world. US Delta Force may go through tougher training as they are more elite, but very little is known about the requirements to pass Army Delta training so its difficult to compare the two.
16:27 - Another set of Special Forces and Special Operations soldiers have a RUclips channel. They were in Afghanistan 🇦🇫 and said he is saying "You will die today..."
The battle at the end of the movie never happened during the real Operation Red Wings. Marcus wasn’t close to death. The Army Rangers stopped and had tea with the villagers when they rescued Marcus. Marcus wasn’t rescued because of the old man. They Army found Marcus because of his emergency beacon. There was no gruesome bullet removal scene in real life. The villagers gave him medical treatment and discovered there was no bullet to be found. Great movie. But things were exaggerated to make it more exciting. Because what’s a war movie without a big gunfight at the end? When the movie was first played for the cast and crew, Marcus laughed when the gunfight at the end happens, because it didn’t happen in real life.
You guys should check out a video called “The First Medal of Honor Ever Recorded” by Dan Shilling Books. The things some of these guys can do, and the punishment they can take and keep on fighting, is insane.
1. Director Peter Berg is the braintrust behind the tv series Friday Night Lights. Best series ever. 2. Taylor Kitsch (Murphy) played Tim Riggins in FNL. It's cool you recognized him.😎 3. When I was going through Morse Code training (1981) I met a Seal doing his advanced training and I shook his hand. It was like shaking hands with a statue. First thing through my head was, "I'm glad he's on my team". 4. GOOF: Plot hole. From the shepherd boy to the first attack was far too quickly to be that organized and armored.
The 10 digit grid helps them to know where to look, if they don't have that it's a guess. The last captions at the end explain why Mark Wahlberg's character was helped by some of the villagers. This was filmed in New Mexico where I'm from.
Don't want to be that guy... But read the book. It goes so in depth on the relationship he formed with the people who saved him and their culture. It's amazing. The book brought me to tears faster than the movie.
51:57 - u know the movie is extraordinarily emotional when Lia (and Michelle, not pictured) weep. It takes quite a bit to get their water works flowing. (no offense intended towards Vik or Ellie).
My thoughts exactly. I don't think I have seen Lia react this emotionally before. Lol yeah Viki and Ellie are bouth softies but Magy is marshmellow filling lol.
I love the channel Btw at 6:19 the real Marcus luttrell has a cameo appearance telling the on screen Marcus Luttrell " No sky to high,no sea to rough, no mff to tough" This is the real Marcus luttrell. He won the congressional metal of honor, the highest metal given to solder's. His was given for the battle on the mountain in the film!
16:15 There is no exact translation for what the old man said into English. But the most accurate translation he says "You will wake drowning in your own blood".
Excellent pick for a reaction! (Although you might feel differently by the end.) Think of it like this: a 'good cry' is supposed to be good for you! I think the 'best tears' were those for the kid and his relatives, willing to fight/sacrifice to help him, just because he obviously needed the help! So nice to know that there's folks like that out there ... wish there were more! The worst part of this movie (aside from the suffering of their loved-ones 😞☹️), is that I've had a number of injuries over the last 30-35 years, and watching all those wounds/injuries happen (for some reason the falling scenes were the worst) ... man, oh man ... I was wincing *so* _much!_ I almost feel like I should break out the codeine! Interestingly, the injuries depicted were actually all verified by the autopsies done after recovering them; that's how they knew what to 'show'! P.S. - it was interesting that they made sure to accurately render the different gun-shot sounds of the rifles ... you could actually tell what was being fired, by the sounds! Not always rendered so accurately!
Viki & LIa I have a suggestion for next reaction: My suggestion is 1st recording of Medal of Honor recipient, John A. Chapman in action in Afghanistan in 2002.
16:14... I forget which reaction video it was but in the comments someone translated what the old man said to them before leaving... Something like "You're all going to die" or "All of you are going to die". He repeated it twice.
Hi Homies, here's a bit of news about the lone survivor that you may not know: November 8, 2022 Morgan Luttrell elected US House Representative for Texas's 8th District
The movie does have some slight inaccuracies. Marcus actually almost bit his tongue off and swallowed it. He coughed it back up, bit on it, and crawled on his stomach for miles. He also had his pants blown off after one of those falls.
One of my favorite war movies, what is funny is that I actually was imagining of what if you both had watched this movie literally only a few days ago, and all of a sudden I see that you both finally have! It’s definitely heart Pulling for sure, and definitely pose both of yours especially Vicky! Haha ^_^
Just so you know, the Taliban numbered about 300 men, the Seals killed or wounded over half of them. That's why they were so reluctant to take on even a shot up Marcus. Axel finally died with part of his scull shot away, firing a pistol. I have no words....
The old man, when the military let the 3 of them go @ the beginning , said something like “you will die tonight” I watched another video where that’s what they said he said. 😢
So the scene towards the beginning of the movie where they're all sitting at the picnic table. You see that one guy that doesn't say much and he's wearing a brown knit cap. That is the real Marcus luttrell
Remember the guy with the beanie on after the jog in the military base at the table _ that is what the movie is based on the Lone Survivor _that's him _ Cheers
I served as a fire platoon leader and it seems the choice would have been simple enough under those circumstances. Of course you don't kill a young boy and old man just make them move to the extract LZ and leave them alive and well after boarding the choppers. Or, depending on operational rules regarding ensuring the safety of civilians and provided there was space available, perhaps take them along on the choppers for their own safety. The goats are on their own. I don't understand why the real world team did what they did. They had their reasons no doubt.
So the guy who this is about it one of the seals on the base. He is the one who is wearing the black hat after the race. The book is incredible. I have the audiobook from audible and it's one I revisit often.
Not really they were screwed the moment the mission started because unfortunately Taliban had already had spotters that overheard the insertion at night so already they had some warning US Forces were on the mountain top.
Even had they killed them they come from small villages it wouldn't have taken long before they had discovered those three were missing and even then people just don't dissappear in Afghanistan which would have tipped them off all the same.
Love y’all’s reaction I didn’t read the book I need to but my friend did and he was saying how the movie is pretty accurate until the village part Marcus didn’t just get extracted the same day he had to crawl miles until they found him and then they kept him in a cave for months
They knew Murphy was gonna die when he left to go make the call. There is a CrossFit workout done every Memorial Day in gyms around the country called murph
We sign up for this we know what the risks were when we took the job. But somethings are just important enough to die for those loved ones that you were talking about that’s a good reason. That’s a damn good reason I did it to do my part.
Looking at this after it happened and Monday morning quarterbacking it...I think they should have zip tied them all together at one hand and one ankle. This would have at least slowed them down and given them a chance at escape which is what I think Murphy would have preferred over a full restraint. The other thing i wonder about is why they did not have some kind of emergency beacon that could be picked up by satellite and alerted their QRF

They are making a movie about that mission. Jake Gyllenhaal is playing John Chapman, last I heard.
You can see one of the patches worn by Mike Murphy. It's from the NY Fire Department Engine 53, Ladder 43. All of whom died on 9/11.
1. Director Peter Berg is the braintrust behind the tv series Friday Night Lights. Best series ever.
2. Taylor Kitsch (Murphy) played Tim Riggins in FNL. It's cool you recognized him.😎
Yeah that one is a must read I’d say!
13 Hours is definitely worth the watch.
The gentleman wearing the beanie and sun glasses towards the start of the movie at the picnic table is the real Marcus Luttrell.
I love the channel
Btw at 6:19 the real Marcus luttrell has a cameo appearance telling the on screen Marcus Luttrell " No sky to high,no sea to rough, no mff to tough"
This is the real Marcus luttrell.
He won the congressional metal of honor, the highest metal given to solder's. His was given for the battle on the mountain in the film!
It's also why, we have MEMORIAL DAY. To remember the love ones, our friends for keeping our country, and allies safe to live in peace.
You should watch 13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi. It is also based on a true story.
Yes great story! Great cast too!
One of my favourite movie thanks for this reaction beautiful babes
16:15 There is no exact translation for what the old man said into English. But the most accurate translation he says "You will wake drowning in your own blood".
Graves of the fireflies is the best drama ever, make the reaction, hug from Brazil.
The REAL Marcus Latrell is in the movie as a background cameo. He's on screen at 3:50, the guy in Beanie and ahades. And in the debrief room at 4:53
Excellent pick for a reaction!
Viki & LIa
I have a suggestion for next reaction: My suggestion is 1st recording of Medal of Honor recipient, John A. Chapman in action in Afghanistan in 2002.
Axe’s death: “Bye soldier.”
No girl. It’s, “Bye Sailor.”
These are NAVY men. Not soldiers.
Viki has to have one of the prettiest faces Ive ever seen. its geometrically perfect
16:14... I forget which reaction video it was but in the comments someone translated what the old man said to them before leaving... Something like "You're all going to die" or "All of you are going to die". He repeated it twice.
"Don't tell me they're going to kill the kiddos." No, they didn't. Then everybody died except Marcus. Should've put the kids down quiet. Grandpa too.
Hi Homies, here's a bit of news about the lone survivor that you may not know: November 8, 2022 Morgan Luttrell elected US House Representative for Texas's 8th District
When you are among brother's, uncommon Valor, is a common virtue! ..from Wyoming USA 🇺🇸 🤠
Operation Red Wings
RIP legends
The movie does have some slight inaccuracies. Marcus actually almost bit his tongue off and swallowed it. He coughed it back up, bit on it, and crawled on his stomach for miles. He also had his pants blown off after one of those falls.
One of my favorite war movies, what is funny is that I actually was imagining of what if you both had watched this movie literally only a few days ago, and all of a sudden I see that you both finally have! It’s definitely heart Pulling for sure, and definitely pose both of yours especially Vicky! Haha ^_^
The Murph exercise was made in honor of Michael Murphy. For anyone who has done that exercise and didn’t know what it was for.
they didn't show it in this movie but the real guy had a broken back and had to crawl 5 miles out.
Loving the Wrangler t-shirt. I grew up in Utah, where it's considered fashion.
Mark’s performance in this movie was amazing
Just so you know, the Taliban numbered about 300 men, the Seals killed or wounded over half of them. That's why they were so reluctant to take on even a shot up Marcus.
Axel finally died with part of his scull shot away, firing a pistol.
I have no words....
The old man, when the military let the 3 of them go @ the beginning , said something like “you will die tonight” I watched another video where that’s what they said he said. 😢
The old man said "Hear this, you will die tonight"
Marcus said that the only way to stop a seal is to kill them because they will always keep fighting no matter what
So the scene towards the beginning of the movie where they're all sitting at the picnic table. You see that one guy that doesn't say much and he's wearing a brown knit cap. That is the real Marcus luttrell
Thanks for recognizing! Super emotional reaction! War veteran. 👍🏼
The guy in the glasses on the beginning on the table is the real Marcus luttrell
You just had a glimpse, Hollywood glimpse, but still a glimpse in what our active duty military personnel go through. We Thank you for your Service.
Sorry ladies there was no kid in real life, he was only added for the movie.
6:19 Marcus luttrell calls it the “ballad of a frogman” I think it’s just a saying in his specific seal team not certain though
As a former Army attack helicopter pilot with combat experience, thank you for your reaction.
Ending credits with Peter Gabriel song, Fucked me up when i saw this for the first time.
So the guy who this is about it one of the seals on the base. He is the one who is wearing the black hat after the race. The book is incredible. I have the audiobook from audible and it's one I revisit often.
The worst part is knowing all 4 of them survive if they make the tough decision.
Not really they were screwed the moment the mission started because unfortunately Taliban had already had spotters that overheard the insertion at night so already they had some warning US Forces were on the mountain top.
Even had they killed them they come from small villages it wouldn't have taken long before they had discovered those three were missing and even then people just don't dissappear in Afghanistan which would have tipped them off all the same.
and become just like the Taliban by doing so.
@3:54 that the real Marcus luttrell sitting at the table with the black beanie on at the table
They had to go on top of the mountain to be able to use the radio. Otherwise the mountain would block the signal. The antenna needs to be higher up.
Navy seals are literally the baddest dudes on the planet!! Great reaction 🇺🇸
Love y’all’s reaction I didn’t read the book I need to but my friend did and he was saying how the movie is pretty accurate until the village part Marcus didn’t just get extracted the same day he had to crawl miles until they found him and then they kept him in a cave for months
He wasn't there months, just 5 days
@@donaldstone540 oh ok like I said I need to read his book
They knew Murphy was gonna die when he left to go make the call. There is a CrossFit workout done every Memorial Day in gyms around the country called murph
the guy in the black stocking hat at 3:49 is Marcus Luttrell he is the one the movie is about.
We sign up for this we know what the risks were when we took the job. But somethings are just important enough to die for those loved ones that you were talking about that’s a good reason. That’s a damn good reason I did it to do my part.
he reunited with that villager who saved his life.
Marcus played in the movie he was the guy sitting at the picnic table at the end of the run
Marcus Luttrell, the pride of Houston, Texas.
Marcus Luttrell the only survivor actually makes a cameo in this movie.
3:48 - the real Marcus Luttrell, w/the black beanie on. U c him sprinkled throughout the movie in a supporting role.
Murphy won the Medal of Honor for his actions
You always say it so well...violence is difficult to understand. The only good thing in a war is the end of it. Hopefully, good triumphs.
