    I was talking my uncle who worked in a mine the company had a hard time with the workers not keeping their mask on during the shift. So they brought in a lady who was an expert. She had them wear the mask and she went down into the mine with them. At lunch break she took off her filter and cut it in half and compared that one to the unused one and she did the same with the workers after they saw the difference for themselves they were much more compliant with wearing their mask. Good video. Most important get 40 thread filter to use.

    One thing you left out, yes these may protect somewhat against the particles of smoke, however, if you're in a smoke rich environment you NEED an oxygen supply through a tank. Large amounts of smoke in a confined space will completely displace the environment of oxygen, so even if you are getting clean air through the gasmask, you are not getting any oxygen with it, or at least a negligible amount that will not allow you to breathe. Tanks that firefighters use for example are compressed air, but there is enough oxygen in there to sustain life.

    ONE OF THE BEST UPGRADES FOR YOUR MASK IS TO USE A PAPR. For SIGNIFICANTLY easier breathing air flow, you can use these filters with a PAPR (powered air purifying respirator). Basically you connect filters to PAPR, connect PAPR to mask , then breathing becomes easier from the fan blower inside the papr.

    • @robertpatter5509
      @robertpatter5509 3 года назад +1

      Mira MB-90 is a PAPR
      Looks pretty good.

      Fairly pricy at $400.

    • @crossbowsniper
      @crossbowsniper 2 года назад

      @@robertpatter5509 lmao... that's VERY reasonable for a PAPR unit. the most common PAPR is the Scott C-420 which clocks the scale at a whopping $800, the SEA SE400 is tipping the cost scale at $1,000, the 3M RRPAS comes in at $1,300. So when you compare the price of the MIRA (which CAN still use the LiSo batteries) to the other professional ones (i run a C-420 as does a good chunk of the department) the MIRA PAPR is EXTREMELY well priced and inexpensive comparatively, while still being good quality from everything I've seen from my colleagues who use the MIRA PAPR. Just something to consider, especially because most people I see prepping, don't realize they are NOT in as good of shape as they think when it comes to performing under stress in a gas mask....doesn't matter how much you can lift or how far you can run, you need to condition your lungs for a gas mask otherwise you're going to tire easily.

    Good information presented. I'll just add in as far as smoke is concerned the HEPA filters don't really offer too much protection and should be a means to assist in exiting the situation. As far as chemical irritant (CS or OC) the HEPA do a good job but will start having odor/taste after a few hours and you'll notice reduced air flow. I wear them for work and would only imagine using them on the streets to pass through or exit a location, not to enter.

    I have the PMK-4 gas mask Russian army, rubberized hazmat chemical suit and hazmat boots, they are coming out with adapter hoses for Russian to 40 mm threads, the hoses allows for distant placement like in another bag or area for indirect exposure, could make a hepa filter bag than place your remote filter into that making the actual filter last longer, even a furnace filter cut up for a bag filter. in a survival SHTF longevity may be a key to long term survival when things are harder to come by. The rubberized suit came with feet or shoe soles but there not great foot wear made more for a indoor environment or to be used for a period than discarded after the operation is completed. for general uses it's great as it's washable with harsh cleaners, I cut the feet part off and will use the hazmat boots with the suit. Duck tape etc.. would be ideal to also accompany the kit loadout.

    You should have mentioned about the threads of the gas mask filters since there's 3 different 40mm threads which is STANAG (NATO thread), GOST (Warsaw Pact/Russia/Eastern European thread), and DIN (Deutsches Institut für Normung or in English German institute for standardization thread). DIN threads mostly found nowadays in industrial 40mm but not all the time. STANAG filters are the most common filters but they won't fit GOST threaded masks like GP-5 and PMG. GOST filters fit all three types of threads just like DIN but it's a bit of a controversial topic among the gas mask collectors community. Same goes to the myth of 40mm standardised/normalised thread which is said used used by Israel and China but in reality, Israel uses STANAG while China uses GOST yet unlike other countries, gas masks from these countries somehow fit with any of 3 threads. You should make a vid about it or at least make a video to warn about the threads. Either way, your videos are great.
    Edit: Sorry for my grammar. English is my second language.

    The SGE Infinity mask is a good option combined with the 40mm to 3M adapter, NBC-77 or VKF-450 should you just want one mask that does many things.
    You won't always want the nbc protection. That's where the Mira P3 filter comes in handy.
    If you want one filter that does most try the NBC-77. Want smoke protection added? VKF-450.
    Don't need smoke or nbc? Mira P3.

      Silversurfer It really has a lot to do with the shape of your face. You should test them in person for a proper seal, and definitely have a clean shave when in use, if possible. A sure way to test if it’s functioning properly is have someone spray your face with pepper spray. (Outdoors of course) You will very quickly find out if your mask is sealed correctly. Lol.

So, I know very well what happens. I wasn’t referring to a mask such as the N95. Edit: the testing also creates confidence in your mask. Especially for new users who can often struggle with the confinement aspect of the mask. Just a thought.

    Man Slim I thought this video was going to blow...but I learned a couple of things I didn't know, like the length of usefulness when exposed to contaminants or just the shelf life...I wonder if those masks have an adapter for a camelback or if they come in Desert Tan, Coyote Brown or FDE...if not, well I just invented them..good video... update.. I'm stareing at the thumbnail and I see a hose hanging down I'm guessing that's a drinking adapter...

    You said the green metal one has a 14 year life, you meant a 14 year 'shelf life' right? If it has a 14 year "LIFE" then I definitely want a couple of those! But if it's only 'shelf life' then I'd go with the MIRA that has a 20 year shelf life. You also said that the middle one was equivalent to the MIRA, if that's so then can you please tell me what more the green metal one filters that the MIRA does not? Please clarify if you get a chance to read this. Thank you very much!

    With HEPA filter, I can imagine coming out of a fall-out shelter to go into the garage to get a tool and it reducing the dose of settled radioactive particles.
    I've worn chemical carbon filter, they only handle so much and will saturate hence a good replacement schedule is important. I'd assume the most likely use is in the case of civil unrest if the police or military hit the neighborhood with tear gas.
    Gas mask and civilian respirators have limits, they typically in the case of the latter have a "protection factor" of 1 to 50 to 1 to 100 with that 1 part getting through. The masks look similar (not the same) to North brand respirator hence I'd guess the "protection factor' aka exposure factor is likely similar.
    I not sure if the North brand threads match NATO threads?
    I only worn the masks for about 4 to 5 hours straight without a break. A means of drinking can be important. In an industrial setting you can leave the room or around to meet your biological needs.

      According to the MIRA Safety website, the CM-6M is compatible with the 3M Safety 6878 spectacle kit. I have the CM-6M, although I do not have the spectacle kit. Not sure if the Mestel mask has a kit available. Just FYI, gas masks are not compatible with standard glasses as they would break the seal.

    Which is better for escaping forest fires, a fire mask/smoke hood or a gas mask? Why are smoke hoods more expensive? The biggest risk for my family is forest fires in our neighborhood, so I want to keep something on hand that anyone can easily use in an emergency.

    • @CanadianPrepper
      @CanadianPrepper  3 года назад

      Smoke hoods are less expensive because they're disposable. A carbon monoxide filter would be Best for forest fires, although all the filters will work for that purpose it's the only one that will filter out monoxide.

    Hello, if we were in a situation where we do not know the nature of the substances released into the air, which filter would you recommend for all eventualities being able to have only one type of filters available?
    Thank you!

    • @crossbowsniper

      CBRN rated filter will cover you for all possibilities. it is designed for Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear contaminates....hence the CBRN designation of the filter. keep in mind you need to act BEFORE you are exposed to any substance that was released into the air, otherwise the filter does no good for you once you're exposed.
