A Tribute to his dad's sudden and unexpected death. Beautifully written and performed. Many of us can relate to this song, as we have almost all lost a family member.
Well, when one thinks this about a lost lover, it does seem too begging, but when one sees it about a lost parent, it suddenly seems a much better and more heartfelt song.
It's funny how perceptions vary. This is also apples and oranges across decades. But I will tell you Ace, this is the only song by Bread that I actually really like, and I deeply loved it. I really appreciate it; in junior high schoolI had to play the piano accompaniment so many times to all these young aspiring tween girls that thought they would be the next big thing. But this song has a very special meaning to me where I can overlook about Bread, although let me say again, their song If, that I had to play those piano accompaniments 2, is quite the masterpiece. But for me it's this one When I was going through hard times as a very young person, my great-grandmother was close to me, and I spent some quality time with her despite the massive age difference. And then I lost her around when I was in 4th grade. And this song was on the radio all the time and I latched on to it as describing perfectly my feelings towards her.
For me, I like this one better than "Aubrey." But "If" is probably tops on my list. If I have it right, you still have excellent Bread songs in your future: "Baby I'm-a Want You," "Lost Without Your Love," "Guitar Man," and in the solo career of David Gates, "Goodbye Girl." Those are solid hits.
Bread could also rock out, but nobody reacts to those songs. Give 'em a shot -- superb songwriters and musicians! "Mother Freedom," "Down on My Knees," "Let Your Love Go," just for starters.
This wasn't necessarily romantic love. It's like Mom used to say to me when I was a boy, "You know, you won't always have me." You still have yours, so know that.
Hey Ace. Loving the reactions. David Gates was such a great singer/song writer. Can you please do my favorite Bread song "Guitar Man" next. Thanks and God Bless.
I would like to take this another opportunity to encourage you to listen to the masterpiece of DAVID GATES (songwriter and lead singer of BREAD): "Suite: Clouds, Rain" (from the solo album "First", 1974 ). The composition is divided into three movements. Sublime words and music. Deeply and intelligently emotional. Goosebumps guaranteed. Thanks.
This was written for David Gates' father, who had just died.

Have no fear. Bread songs are easy on the ears and helpful for the heart.
You'll like it more when you know it is a tribute to his dad.
It’s a love song to his Dad who had passed away.

Dude you can’t stop listening to Bread without doing “Guitar Man.” Their best song, in my opinion.
Totally agree!
Next do, "The Guitar Man" by Bread Please. Thank You

Guitar man by them
People played this as a Wedding Song no realizing what the song was really about.

Great song, everything by Bread is so good. Love your reaction 😍

NO Hateable Songs By Bread!!
Ace, "Guitar Man" is very good as well. Thanks for the reaction!!
"Sweet Surrender ", is a fun, off the beaten track, but still a hit
Yes...followed by "Never Let Her Go"
Bread is like Barry Manilow for me, just endless beautiful emotional songs of love.
My sister in law played this at my oldest brother's funeral.
David Gates was from my home town of Tulsa, OK and his first band was with another Tulsa star, Leon Russell.
My fave!
Back in the day you would listen to the whole album on the record player, not just one or two songs.
Never a bad Bread song.
Yes I want to make it with you and If we're great great songs. Now that I know this was about his father that died I could cry. Thank you again
I suggest Guitar Man. There are a few more Bread hits. Baby I'm a want you! That's another one of their hit songs.
Try "Truckin" by Bread. You wont hate it but it is different than their softer stuff.
Love is love is love..... whether it's the lifelong marriage or the family, each one, and so on.... it's the love of heart and soul❤❤❤
❤❤❤❤❤
❤
It's called make it with you❤❤❤❤❤
Ace, what's up with your voice today? You are speaking in a calm quiet original FM voice. The FM radio of old was originally like that
Yes, haha, I noticed it too. It’s “Late Night Ace” and I think he should do all his reactions in this voice. 😃

I like the shorter songs. Even beautiful songs can be not as special played too long. Just saying.
Bread song hateable? Not Relatable. 😊
