This solo live performance by Bobby Hatfield of “Unchained Melody”, while not the first rendition, is widely considered to be the best, as well as to be one of the top five live performances of all time. It is widely considered to be the single best performance of this song, of all time.
Bobby Hatfield and his singing partner, Bill Medley, put “blue eyed soul” on the musical map.
One man, one microphone, no autotune, no computer tricks. Just pure talent and that rarest of all singing voices, the contra tenor. Brilliant. Timeless and brilliant.

That was a wonderful thing for you to do. To bring back all those memories for your mum at the end, bless you, you would have made her passing so much more peaceful. My mum didn’t die of Covid19 but a mixed type dementia 3 yrs ago during covid that took her within a year. She was saved the years of decline and was able to die at home. She was at peace while I played the Irish songs she loved including I’ll Take You Home Again Kathleen, and I Wish I Was In Carrickfergus, she died with a smile on her face as I sang along quietly. As hearing is the last sense to leave, I’m comforted that she had that experience as I’m sure your mum did too.
Take care, love from Northern Ireland xx

Music and real talent are amazing and brings our common souls together like nothing else can. The Righteous Brothers were a gift from above and made (still make) millions happy. Not too many artists had the talent to do what they did !

I was ten years old when this song came out.
I spent my teenage years with my transistor radio held to my ear listening this played over and over, through the years.
My first girlfriend and I slow danced to this at our prom.
I'm a pianist. I played and sang it to my wife.
I'm sixty-eight now. My loves are memories now, but "Unchained Melody" is still one of the greatest love songs ever written.
It is timeless. It will never need a remake.
Now... if I'm honest, it's hard for me to listen to. But that's ok. They are tears with fine, fine memories.

Loved it in the movie, Ghost, which was one of my wife's favourite films. Sadly, my beautiful wife passed away suddenly, on 1st Sept, 2004. We had 4 primary school aged kids at the time. Now, every time I hear this song the memories of that day come flooding back and make the tears just pour down my cheeks. A : while later, Bobby suggested they call themselves "The Righteous Brothers." The beginning of the greatest duo in the history of music. I wish Bobby were here to see the impact just listening to his voice has on everyone who has the good fortune to hear him. But being Bobby, he would be very humble, but happy. They were so talented and did great justice to black music. They didn't do it to "copy" black music, but because they loved it. And they did they did a great job!
