      Tbh I probably would but not in as an extreme case as mine. I can't stand most people because any clearing of throat, cough, sniff will send me into panic mode. Fortunately for me I can become a crazy animal person. I just realized how easy it is to change a subject. How great is that.

      DirtRich I know, I've had OCD for about 5 years now. It's so hard to control and I know it doesn't make any sense; people who don't have OCD can't possibly understand the crazed feeling of desperately wanting, no, NEEDING to do your little ticks. I can remember so many times I've gotten in trouble because of my OCD ticks. So for any people with OCD out there I feel your pain.

      D.A.B Science and More!
      I don't suffer from OCD or any disorder but I do kinda get the feeling they have.
      I was getting stressed from my exams and because of this I did very odd body movements such as twitching my head or fingers and having to perform tasks by multiples of 5. I also wash my hands frequently but this is because of my forgetfulness. And I can tell you this, it feels frustrating as you can't let something go and sometimes it bothers you until you do it.
      Also, to people who claim but are not diagnosed with mental disorders, just stop. You are making things worst for people with actual mental disorders.

    I have OCD and I hate when people fake it. For example I must enter every room with my right foot, Must touch most things 5 times, I must not wear too much black etc. I know these are just stupid thoughts but my idiot of a brain tells me if you dont do it, you will get injured, or you will lose all your friends or something bad will happen. Even though i know it wont. I can also get the urge to injure or in extreme cases, kill loved one or stranger. Saying "I'm so OCD" because you like being tidy is like saying "I'm so lung cancer" because you just coughed.

    • @bigzed3495
      @bigzed3495 7 лет назад +7

      Matthew Corr the right foot concept is exactly what I have. Except it also works with my right hand. For example putting my phone on the table or something HAS to be done with my right hand otherwise I'd get this terrible anxious feeling that would dwell onto me until I give in.

    • @giselloll
      @giselloll 7 лет назад +1

      I'm a lot like you with the entering a room with your right foot thing, I do that often, and if I'm walking with my friends, or anyone, I'll try and keep my steps the same place, and same look as them, (I know it seems stupid)but it's true. and I know u said it's not only about organization, but I NEED everything perfectly alighned or organized. at school, I can't even work if my desk is a mess.

      (i have long nails-*this is important*)
      Every time i board an airplane i have to almost *always* sit at the window seat on the *left* of the plane but, one day my cousin, aunt and i were going to Florida when i got the window seat. I was fairly happy of course but my cousin complained how it wasn't fair as i didn't give her barbecue chips before we boarded. I thought she sounded ridiculous. I slept for an hour and when waking up, suddenly having the urge to pee badly-(TMI Vivs..) So i got up from my seat, placing my *jacket, phone and chips* on the seat. GUESS WHAT. WHEN I CAME BACK MY COUSIN WAS IN MY SEAT EATING *MY* BARBECUE CHIPS MAKING STAINS ON MY *NEW WHITE* JACKET I HAS JUST BOUGHT-(that jacket was very expensive💰) and i ran over to her slapping her and screaming. My nails were like wolverines as i didn't cut them the day before, so i scratched her face as she was embarrassed and started crying. My aunt was looking straight at me in the eye and that day i was so angry i wanted to murder my cousin.

      +Kobe Negron Its a simple case of misunderstanding, OCPD (Obsessive Compulsive Personality/Perfectionist Disorder) is the desire to constantly be clean and organized, OCD on the other hand is when you repeat an action to reduce anxiety/stress for a brief time say, you think "If i don't check on my dog in 30 minutes it could get hurt." You proceed to check on them every 30 minutes for lord knows how long until you go into your next repeated action...

My therapist told me it's called the "disappearing just right feeling," where I feel the need to either touch or do something a certain amount of times in order to make me feel satisfied, if I don't I feel anxious.

      I have OCD, diagnosed when I was 6 and I'm the same, I wouldn't consider myself completely sloppy but I'm definitely not a clean freak, I do have to say that if me and my boyfriend didn't live together then my place would probably be more messy and disorganized than it currently is. He likes to stay clean, not clean freak clean but he likes a tidy house, so I do my best to keep it tidy cause I try to keep him happy, and I always worry he will leave me for some reason or another (that is OCD and anxiety cause I constantly over worry about it). I feel if I don't keep the house clean enough he will become unhappy and leave me. Everyone that thinks they have OCD think it is just about being a clean freak and it isn't. The thoughts I have about if I don't do something then my bf will leave me is anxiety and the thoughts OCD creates, not just a quirk, plus many other compulsions I have having to do other things. Number is a big one for me, and checking.

Hell I'm not even a clean freak, my bedroom is a clusterfuck, but hey at least being a clean freak has its benefits. I was diagnosed with OCD at around the age of 8. I was told that it is very uncommon in children and with most people who have OCD, it doesn't come into affect until they're 20s. At the time, that made me feel special... Within a year that changed to a feeling of "none of my peers understand". Since then I have gotten along with, and felt more comfortable around adults rather then people my own age. One time, when I was around ten, I heard a kid in the hall say "I get OCD about that", when I heard them say that, I was so excited. I turned to them and said "You have OCD! I do too!" They acted like it was normal and everyone had OCD. It wasn't too long before I realized that people were using the term OCD like it referred to something that slightly bothered them. That's not what it is. Unless you were diagnosed with OCD, you most likely don't have it. One year I had a teacher who, not only was a great teacher, but also had OCD and would understand when I when I'd try to only walk on certain colored tiles, or tap my fingers on a page a seemingly random number of times before moving on with the book, along with multiple other things. It was the best year I can remember. The next year though, my teacher was the exact opposite. I don't only have OCD, I also have ADHD and other things. Because of this, I had something called an IEP, or Individualized Education Plan. This teacher decided that she didn't need to pay attention to my IEP and gave me the same everything as everyone else in her class. Which, by the way, the other kids who DIDN'T have an IEP couldn't finish the homework even if they stayed up until 4 am. My mom and I combined staying up really late, didn't get all the work done. That was the worst year I can remember. I don't have to sort skittles or count the number times I blink, but my OCD manifests in it's own, many, ways. For example, when I eat snacks like goldfish or chips, I eat in twos. If it is an odd number, I sometimes give it away or I'll break it in half and pretend it was two. When I'm playing chess, the pieces have to be in the center of the square, and the pieces I took from the other player must be in straight line in the order that I took them. When I spin around, I spin the other way the same amount of time. If I start to sing a lyric to a song, I have to finish it, even if it's in head, and if I don't know the rest of the lyric, I still have to finish the tune. Unless you have been diagnosed with OCD, you don't know how much this affects my everyday life. I hate it, but I feel worse if I don't and it will bother me until I fix it. It's not severe life crippling or anything like that but the sheer number of things that I do because of my OCD is ridiculous. I seem too find myself doing them more often than I am not, they are just mostly small ones. There have been so many since I was first diagnosed, it's crazy and very few of them are what people who don't know much about OCD think OCD is.

    This has always bothered me. As somebody with a fairly severe case of OCD, when I hear people say that they have OCD because of their tendency to be neat, it drives me nuts. Every night, when I enter my room right before going to bed, I perform a variety of 'rituals.' These rituals take nearly two hours every night. During the day, I always check certain things and perform certain tasks eleven times. That eats up an average of an hour a day. All in all, I'm wasting 12.5% of my life on this stupid disorder. OCD isn't something that's cool having and be thankful you don't have it.

    I don’t know if this counts as minor ocd: When I was around age 9-10, I washed my hands constantly. After the bathroom I washed my hands around 3 times. I considered some things cleaner than others so if I was on my computer and touched something like the wall or a mug, I would wash my hands. Luckily, that stopped when I turned 11.

    Very true and thanks for informing. I have severe life crippling OCD myself and I see people incorrectly refer to OCD all the time. That said.. anyone who is uptight enough to get angry at someone for doing something as innocent as misuse the word OCD needs to chill the heck out. That goes for innocent jokes too. When Target made that OCD (Obsessive Christmas Disorder) shirt and everyone blew up I face palmed so hard. We need more jokes, less people taking things so seriously, because one thing I know for sure is my OCD is the most tame when I'm happy and laughing. Last thing an OCD sufferer needs is more people complaining about something, creating a sheep mentality, and teaching people to be uptight. It honestly sickens me how easy it is to offend people these days..

    • @ChillyPeppers
      @ChillyPeppers 7 лет назад +17

      I also suffer from OCD, and no I won't lighten up. Not being taken seriously is a real problem for me, and jokes from regular people do nothing to help. It hurts when you open up to someone about your condition and they just think you're joking about being tidy, clean, or perfectionist.

    • @DJMonopoli
      @DJMonopoli 7 лет назад +35

      Dity People not taking it seriously is a completely different issue that I do agree with you on. However, I don't believe people making the innocent mistake of using it incorrectly and/or making light of it for the sake of comedy (the intent of comedy is almost always to make people happy) has any effect on it. It's all about intentions. It's pretty clear when someone doesn't mean well. In those cases you have all right to get offended but if the intention isn't to hurt anyone, why get offended? I see nothing wrong with informing these people, but blowing up on someone who is simply making an innocent remark isn't helping anyone.

    I can't stand it when anyone refers to a mental illness and says they're ADHD or OCD or have panic attacks or anxiety when they just are going through regular situations where most people would feel the same way. Just because you are temporarily anxious about a test or something, you do not have an anxiety disorder. I saw a comment earlier of someone saying if you aren't diagnosed you don't actually have the disorder, and I'd have to respectfully disagree. Many people live with disorders for years but are afraid to open up about it and talk to someone because they are embarrassed... like me. Contamination OCD is my issue. For me, there are basically two categories, the "outside world" filled with germs and things that are contaminated, and the safe things, or things that I keep clean and will not let anyone touch. Public places are my enemy. I will not touch door handles unless I have a coat on, which I will use the sleeve then fold it so I won't accidentally touch it, then wash it immediately after getting home. My clothes I wear outside in public have to be changed before I sit on my furniture at home and my bed. If my bare skin touches anything out in public which I consider dirty, I'm going to head to the bathroom and scrub it off with some soap and water. Hotels are also very big trigger. The beds... The only time I touch the actual bed is to put my sheets I brought from home and my comforter and pillow on top of the hotel's. I scrub my hands right after, of course because if I don't, I'll be thinking about it up until the time when I get to wash my hands. Tissues and my best friend in hotels especially, although they are always something I couldn't live without. Need to touch the door handle, faucet, remote controller? Just use the tissues. I bring my own towels, because the hotels towels have been used by countless amounts of people. Certain things I have like my phone for example, will be dirty due to being outside with me, but I will scrub the case and the screen with alcohol and soap and water as soon as I get home. It's a long list of things, but there are many more. For me, it's a constant embarrassment and takes so much time and energy out of me to performer these rituals, but my mind can't be at peace if I don't do these things because I'm constantly worrying an obsessing over contamination. I'd appreciate if any of you experience the same struggles, go comment below and tell me how they affect your lives.

      (I made this comment earlier but copy pasted it here then edited it a bit)
      Also I'm incredibly sorry in advance if this falls under the "Saying they have OCD when they just go through normal situations." category.
      I don't really have much of a problem anymore but I used to have (what I assume to be a mild case, I was never diagnosed so I guess I'll never know) of OCD when I was a real little kid. I would have to line up all of my toys, including the GI Joe toys in such a way that they would all be perfectly balanced and standing. For a birthday once I got a bunch of hot wheels and I had to open every single package and perfectly line the cars on the floor before moving to the next one. I recall moving them all to a desk I had and lining them up, then realigning them a lot. I probably realigned them all at least a hundred times in total (At least). I also had to keep my room cleaned 100% of the time. If I wasn't able to do any of these things I would freak. The only reason I don't have it now is that my mom stopped allowing me to indulge these obsessions and the resulting compulsions. I don't recall what the obsession or obsessions were but I still remember the compulsions. One thing that I can remember much better is that up until a couple years ago I had to ask to do things or have something at least 3 or 4 times, and sometimes much more, before I would do them. And only then with great anxiety. My fear was that I had only imagined that I had asked and I would get yelled at. To this day I don't know why I cared about getting yelled at so much and over such trivial things. Like getting a pop cycle or playing on a game console. I'm not sure if these things were normal or not. I just know my siblings didn't share these behaviors. I honestly couldn't imagine still having these problems. I certainly do feel for whoever has to deal with similar compulsions.

      Sarah thanks for sharing :) I have OCD dermatillomania - I compulsively pick at perceived contamination in my skin- and have sores BC of it- since third grade. It takes hours a day. Causes some low level anxiety and depression too... I have some help with non prescription supplements and herbs to help calm me, St. John's Wort to help with depression, Inositol to help with anxiety/depression, NAC to help with OCD. Any calming Herbs can help too, like camomile, lavender, or stronger herbs like valerian or California poppy in tincture or tea. I also struggling with smoking addiction, but I'm transitioning away from it with the help of less/non psychoactive CBD - whereas previously I have been self medicating with cannabis that has THC and these days it has too much THC if you ask me- I don't want to be "high" all the time- I just need relief from what I suffer from. So on TOP of the stigma of mental disorders, AND people misappropriating them! :P I have also been very frustrated with the stigma against cannabis users or patients :P I'm not an idiot just BC I'm a "stoner" 😒🙄 and that's not my identity or entirety of me as a person either. The disrespect can be hurtful sometimes, but I try to let it go and let that shit and other peoples judgments slide.

    Thank you for making this video! I’m glad you covered OCD and of how it is not the same for everyone. I personally have OCD with germs/getting sick and also the checking multiple times. Although I think I might have had OCD all my life- it mostly showed itself when quarantine hit in 2019. I still wash all the way to my elbows with an unhealthy amount of soap, I take a off my shirt before going in since I don’t want it to touch anything in the bathroom, and when it was the worst- I washed the rim of my pants, and my legs where I sat on the toilet. (Although for that last pants/legs stressor- I was able to stop it 😁) And I did knew it wasn’t normal, which made me feel like I was stupid and insane. And even if I did try not to do those things- my mind makes me feel terribly uncomfortable and guilty if I do not do it just “enough”. And my mind made me reach this feeling of just “enough”; even if my back and neck were hurting from staring down at my hands, even if my arms burned of how dry they were, or even if I did truly wanted to leave and stop washing. But from the help from my therapist and doctor I was prescribed anxiety medication to help me calm down more while I try to lessen my OCD patterns. It’s hard to explain these feelings in some text; but I hope people will eventually understand OCD and how it effects people; and to also stop making OCD jokes to try to make the person with OCD uncomfortable, or just thinking perfectionism is just like OCD.

      It’s something you can speak to a doctor for. I count to 4 and am obsessed with it. I count to 4 each finger and then each side of my hand and wrist and i have to that times 4. It took a lot of my time and i was formally diagnosed with OCD because of that added to some other things. It just depends on how much it affects your life and if it controls you, or you control it. Only a professional can truly tell you.

    I have OCD and it's literal hell. Before I started taking medication for it, I couldn't let something happen to only one of my limbs. If my right hand touched something, my left hand had to as well. Not only that but they would have to touch it an even number of times, at the same time, and with the same force, in the same way. If I got shot in one leg, I'd probably have a panic attack. My medication has helped me a lot, but if you remind me of it I do it again.

If I touched one side of a door, I would have to touch the other in the same place but on the opposite side, same with the edge of a wall. I used to get a consequence from my stepmom Everytime I did it, too bad she couldn't understand what I was going through. I eventually grew out of it because I went on an ADHD medication known as Vyvanse which helped.

    I had it pretty bad in middle school and into my early 20s. It started with hand washing but it later changed into intrusive thoughts that could only be relieved by strange compulsive behavior like counting steps or touching things a certain number of times. Before I learned what it was I thought I was possessed by demons or something. The intrusive thoughts brought so much anxiety if I didn't do my strange "rituals" Thankful after I learned about OCD I was able to start my recovery. I'm 30 and now it's a mild inconvenience compared to what it used to be like.

      melanies crybaby I know I’m late but, a lot of people have the conditions for OCD. But they don’t actually have it. I believe that OCD is diagnosed by a doctor (As in saying that you actually have OCD.) If they had OCD, they would HAVE to make sure that everything is perfect. And I’m the same. I would rather have everything perfect, but I don’t have any OCD whatsoever. But to sum it up, I don’t have OCD, they don’t have OCD.

    I was diagnosed with OCD and Bipolar Disorder In 6th grade along with some symptoms of Schizophrenia. My OCD is the strongest issue I have. My compulsions took up most of my life. I had to stop school because it made me not focus and I failed all my classes. My compulsion were very dangerous like the feeling of always have to be even. I would also wash my hand so much my hands would bleed. I love this video cause it informs people on what OCD actually is and what a struggle it is.

      Attack On Vore now that I do think of it (and read their whole comment) I bet they have Schizoaffective disorder, which is a condition that includes aspects of both schizophrenia and a mood disorder (either major depressive disorder or bipolar disorder). It explains the whole story.

    I am one of the 2% and my OCD effects my grades. When I'm saying a speech or writing an exam I always think of thoughts I do not want. Therefore when I write in an exam i have to cross or rub it out and redo the line. When I say a speech OCD slows me down. This is just a mere example of how it impacts my life. OCD is not all bad, it's mostly bad but not all bad, OCD also helps think more critically about things and find solutions to problems. However, I must say I wish it was never there.

    Idk if you already have made this video but if not you should totally make a video similar to this about phobias!
    As someone with a legit phobia of throwing up (emetophobia), one that has affected my daily life since I can remember and has often times been debilitating, it can often be frustrating when people claim to have phobias of all the things they logically don't like, for those of us who actually struggle.

    • @emberann4
      @emberann4 7 лет назад +4

      seizure salad
      Everyone is different so for me if I actually throw up im fine after! While throwing up I'll shake, get cold sweats, go super pale and start losing feeling in my hands and feet (this is my body trying to pass out because I'm having panic attacks). But after all that I'll go into a relapse of panic attacks for the next few weeks more frequent than ever. Because the memory is so fresh it's more easily triggered because even tho I survived throwing up and logically know I'll be fine it makes me even more terrified of it.

    You haven’t had OCD unless you’ve stood in a door way in the same spot for an hour touching the handle or wall trying to get the right feel before you can move on with your day. You’ll get the perfect feel with your hand and then a bit of your clothing will touch your right foot or arm or something and you’ll have to start again otherwise you’ll get bad luck if you walk away without the right feel.

    I haven’t been diagnosed but I think I might have ocd. It started like two or tree years ago when I randomly got a very scary thought and started obsessing over having it. Then they just became more and more common because I feel like my brain just kept sabotaging me so that I’d get even more anxious. It’s gotten better now (I think) since it’s been two years but the thoughts still come back in certain situations and now I have some different things. Sometimes when I’m reading or watching something I notice that it just gets too difficult because I feel like I have to keep rewind something back a thousand times because I didn’t look at it closely enough. And if start the rewinding process I usually have to do it tree or five times because I don’t like the number four and two isn’t enough. Reading is also pretty hard because I have to keep repeating words in my head and saying them outloud untill it feels right (same when watching something). I also have this thing when I’m reading comics that I have to analyze all the faces and I can’t turn the page until I’ve kinda felt what the character is feeling. So yeah, reading and watching can sometimes get kinda exhausting and at that point I’m not even enjoying it even though I’d love the book or serie. Wau this was long but yeah. Also walking is sometimes a struggle because I have to turn back to check that I haven’t crushed any bugs or something. There are other things too but I think these are the most annoying that come to mind. I’ve wondered, can have you have compulsions even if there’s no thoughts like ”my family’s gonna die if I don’t do this”? Behind the actions?
