I always thought I never had any compulsions but the mental gymnastics and escape route are there :) I think there is a problem with the "It's just a thought" approach. That approach very much trivialises whats being experienced by the person with OCD. It's not just a thought. Intrusive thoughts come in to your mind with a massive amount of energy and impact. It's not like thinking "I want a cup of coffee". The thought will come in like a punch in the face, carrying so much energy that the impact of the thought and the forced intention of the thought will scare you and make you question your ability and mental strength to be able to resist what you are thinking and seeing in your minds eye. It's like being pushed very hard to do something and you are trying to resit.

@@albertfigueroa11 It can be scary and feel real. This won't last though and it always gets better in time. They say "A problem shared is a problem halved." This is true, meaning talk to someone you can trust and share whats going on with them. The sharing will relieve some of the burden you have and can help greatly. If you feel it's getting worse or you think you are going to lose control then talk to a Doctor and get them to refer you to a Psychiatrist. There is no shame in seeking help! Stay away from anything mood changing like Alcohol, Caffeine, too much Chocolate(stimulant), drugs etc... As these can exacerbate the problem. One of the best things you can do but also the hardest is to "Not pay any attention to it" This is hard but it does work to stop the thoughts.

When I was 10 I was convinced I was going blind so had to blink rapidly to stop it. I could go for hours about my OCD and how it’s effected my life over the past 10 years. These thoughts run through my head even when I sleep. I wake up in the morning feeling unrested everyday because these anxious thoughts of mine constant run through my head when I’m asleep. My intrusive thoughts really make me feel as though I’m a horrible person for having that thought. Best advice I can give you if you have intrusive thoughts is meditating daily and constantly practicing Awareness throughout the day. Practicing Awareness means simply observing your thoughts and negative feelings in a detached manner. Realize you ARE the observer/the Awareness and not the observed thoughts. You are completely free of all of your thoughts if you do not identify with them and simply observe them from a distance. Thoughts are randomly generated and you have no control over that, but you have the control of ignoring them, and therefore not giving them any power. This is gonna be hard at first, but don't be discouraged, it will become easier and easier the more you meditate and practice Awareness (ideally 24/7).

    • @trevormerivale6882
      @trevormerivale6882 3 года назад +123

No, it's when you can't stop thinking about them, you don't want to think about these thoughts but you are obsessing over it. For me what I have experienced is kind of like someone else is planting these thoughts, because it's not what I want to think about and i can't shift my thought pattern and just willingly move to a different topic. Obviously no one is planting thoughts in my head, but when you can't shake these thoughts that's a little different. Have you ever had the same thoughts for 4 or 6 or even 8 hours a day, day after day, especially with thoughts that you don't want to have, thoughts that scare the hell out of you, thoughts that are incredibly dangerous if you were to act on them, thoughts that make you scared of yourself? I experience unpleasant thoughts that are not intrusive as well because I can shift these thoughts but the ones that last for that long and you have the same thoughts for days on end these are intrusive thoughts as they are not "you", you don't want these thoughts but you can't stop thinking about that topic. When you are starting to question if there is something seriously wrong with you and these thoughts are impeding on your life, they are no longer just an unpleasant thought that pop's into your head.
Too many idiots say "that's my OCD", because they LIKE something a certain way, but more often than not there is nothing obsessive or compulsive about their actions or thoughts and therefore it's just they are fussy. Your comment kind of reminds me of that. I could be wrong but my interpretation of your comment is that you need to understand that there's a huge difference between a simple bad thought that pop's into your head and a thought that you can't stop thinking about. I have not been diagnosed with OCD but I have definitely had intrusive thoughts which can happen to many people with other issues

If you have intrusive thoughts, do these two things consequently and your intrusive thoughts WILL 100% get better or maybe even completely vanish if you do it long enough: Meditate daily (ideally 30-60+ minutes, I recommend Vipassana, which is simply putting your Awareness on your breath) and constantly practice Awareness throughout the entire day. Practicing Awareness means simply observing your thoughts and negative feelings in a distanced and detached way. You have to realize that you ARE the observer/the Awareness and not the observed thoughts. Do not identify with your thoughts and simply observe them from a distance. Intrusive thoughts are randomly generated and you have absolutely 0 control over them, but you have the power of being able to ignore them and not worry about them. Fully accept and welcome all thoughts, no matter how strange or disturbing they may be. Never feel ashamed, disgusted or shocked, this fuels intrusive thoughts immensely. Intrusive thoughts thrive on the attention and meaning you give to them. Meditating is gonna be extremely hard at first, but don't be discouraged, it will become easier and easier the more you meditate and practice Awareness. Intrusive thoughts are scary. You can't control them, you can't tell anyone, and part of you wants to do it. They're dark all the time..and it doesn't get off of your mind until later. This one time, I was making a salad for me and my brother..so I was carefully cutting the tomato just how he likes it. During this, I had the sudden urge, desire, whatever you may call it; to cut my fingers off and serve it to my brother without his knowledge. This is only one of the few, but it was the most recent and the most scariest one I've ever had..considering I came REALLY close to actually doing it. At the time, I felt as if something was wrong with me..and if I was turning into some psychopath and I googled about it, and came across this video. These comments make me feel like it's completely normal for these to be accuring..and I hope they're right. Because dear God, the things I've wanted to do were brutal in many ways.

🛑 ITS GOIN TO BE LONG BUT I WANT TO HELP U SO READ IT ALL🛑 it's for u and all the gals and guys outta there so plz open ur ears:
IT IS HEALABLE ( i don't even know if this word exists but u understood). Now personally my obsessional thoughts and intrusive thoughts were only mental( as the name says it lol) and ive had a REALLY hard time cuz i couldn't manage my thoughts that were gettin out of my pure deep fears buried in me. They were main three: endin up lesbian( nothin against LGBTQ it's just taht am 100percent heterosexual), the second is stop brlievin in God( am muslim and convinced) and the third frar was mixed with incredible shame cuz ive thought of suicide ( not as a solution. I just saw a razor on the shelf and thought ''Oh it'd be easy to end it up just open up the veins and booom no more suffering'') and so all kind of ideas started stormin in my head and wreckin me up I thought that I went crazy and that I was even goin to die from the suffering and the anxiety it got mixed with. So that's what I did:
      1) germotherapy saved my life: figs and Hawthorne extracts are magical to get back the neuron path ways to their place and help a lot fir sleep cuz I went insomniac
      2) homeotherapy was my second superhero for insomnia and anxiety cuz it calms u down the one i used i have their name in french( or maybe latin dunno) just google it : Gelsemium, Staphysagria, Ignatia Amara, of the Boiron laboratory. Now u need to take 5 lill balls 3 times a day it takes some time to see results but tust me with consistency it saves
      3) WRITE WRITE AND WRITE some more: I used to take a piece of paper and make it as a dialogue between what i named my ''self in distress'' the one that's suffering and my ''confident self''. Give u an example:
''Hey i need help! Yeah as always spit it up sup? Well its a bit complicated, i don't know why, but am feelin kinda down for no apparent reason. I feel kinda empty. I reastablished my relationship with God still i feel like something is missing, am fillin my leisure time with gibberishes and the show i saw reminded of myself like i might be fleein from my problem. And my soul is EMPTY...STOB IT! Really why talkin gibberishes, u just neeed to fill ur time diffrently that all so stop complicating it. U have faith in God and ur not threatened by losin it (in this time i thought that i might) no u r not losin it! (That's why i got scolded).....''' Anyways that was an exmple so u see how we do.
      4) its pretty the same thing then writin but orally in front of the mirror id let the ''confident self'' talk to coach me and reassure me
      5) a mix between 4 and 3: u close ur eyes ur in ur head and that's ur work: u bring up ur confident self ur heart self( the one that's always rootin for u and cheerin even when ur wrong like a grandma) and ur scared self. The scared self talks first exposes all the idea the why and how and everything about the thing that's scarin u or wreckin u and ket her explain and then let the two other selves answer. Let it be a dialogue where the thing taht's scarin the hell outta u gets really deeply explained and let the two selves crush it every single one in their own way. Don't force anything let it flow. Tell me if u wnat me to write u an example to better explian it to u cuz sadly vocals on utube doesn't exist 😅
      6) This more works when u believe in something bigger than u no matter what it is i don't know if it works for atheists. But anyway here's the thing: every night half an hour before u sleep go to ur window or go out on ur terrace if u have one or ur balcony, and observe the stars, the sky, feel the aur on ur skin and smell it let memories flow through this smell. Maybe it reminds u of summer nights or goo'old days. Let memories and feelings flow. Then ipen ur eyes and poor ur heart out to God or the universe or whatever. Tell him everything. Everything. Every idea scarin u every thing that upsets u, things that ur grateful for, how u REALLY feel everything puts it into words don't be ashamed of ANY SINGLE FUCKIN THING
      7) And that's the last tip: fon't be ashamed. Don't be ashamed of ur thoughts or afraid of them. Be indulgent with urself. Be compassionate with urself. I knwo its hard and it takes time but if u put it into work u'll succeed, i swear u'll do. THOUGHTS ARE THOUGHTS. They r deadly to ur mind when u ignore them or let them be in ur mind without treating them and goin deep whith them. Flr em for example it was the COVID-19 quarantine taht messed up my head and got out all of those inner fears. U have to find the reason that made u go Dutch like that. Not why THIS thought, but why u even got to this critical point. For me the answer was not enough spirituality, not enough exercise, feelin bad in my skin in my body, and so and so forth. Every single one of u has it's own answer go search it!
Now that's the end and i hope i helped u and if i did plz tell me and if u have any questions tell me too i want to help u guys.❤️❤️❤️

The key to overcome ocd is to always observe your feelings, your reactions, yourself. Know why we have these thoughts and it's not because we want or like them. It's the exact opposite. It's because of anxiety and pain. They hurt us and the mind shows it to us as a warning to be careful of these threatening thoughts. It's a survival instinct. When you walk inside a tiger's cage the first thing we lookout for is the tiger, for safety.

      Definitely! 😊 This list took me almost 2 years of self experimenting and reading to complete. A lot of these foods are extremely hard to let go but the results are definitely worth it. Without doubt they all trigger me;
      1. Cooking oils. (Corn oil, olive oil etc.)
      2. Fried fast food (pizza, wings etc)
      3. Dairy
      4. Eggs
      5. Sugar ( High Fructose)
      6. Green Tea
      7. Coffee
      8. Oats
      9. Generic bread (too many chemicals/oils in them)
I did lots of trials to prove myself wrong with these foods but I always suffered horrible ocd storms that wouldn't let me sleep. Try a dry/water fast and avoid these foods for at least a week. Your ocd should definitely lessen and if you fast correctly you can see huge improvement in 1-2 days.
If you end up being inflamed by these foods don't use anti-inflammatories; that will only stop the healing process. Let the inflammation heal itself. Fasting is the solution.

@Stella Mariss 🛑 ITS GOIN TO BE LONG BUT I WANT TO HELP U SO READ IT ALL🛑 it's for u and all the gals and guys outta there so plz open ur ears:
Hey idk if it'll help u but have a couple positive affirmations. Write it down or something. And always have this in your mind:- "BE NORMAL". Fake it till u make it kinda. I assume u envy "normal" people. Have that one random person as ur inspiration. Dont idolize careless people but Careful ones. You're obsessive, you wanna be careful not obsessive. So "be normal". Make it a habit.

As someone diagnosed with OCD, I think that this lady knows her stuff. She describes the thought processes of a person with OCD well, and I think this information is sound. The best advice I ever recieved on dealing with the intrusive thoughts and the discomfort they bring is that sometimes, you just have to sit with that uncomfortable feeling: allow yourself to feel uncomfortable, and after a while, I began to realise that the situations I was facing and worrying about weren't as terrifying as my OCD made me believe.

a message to anyone with these kinds of thoughts including me:
thoughts are just thoughts and remember that. tell yourself you know that the thoughts will do nothing to you. talk back to those thoughts and every time that you get a thought and nothing happens, remember that victory. the more you do this the weaker your OCD gets, and hopefully it will start to bother you less. you got this!! you are stronger than your OCD!!!!!

Which is very inconvenient considering I'm still a student that has to do school stuff. I honestly wouldn't wish these obsessive intrusive thoughts to anyone and after checking all the comments, it seems their ocd is way worse than mine. Or.... How should I say it, mine is different?
Wishing you all the best 😊❤

My intrusive thoughts: sudden graphic visions of my children dying, me forgetting to put one of my kids in the car, picturing any particular terrifying event.
My compulsions: air "typing", counting the letters in a phrase or sentence, reordering the letters, repeating words in my mind over and over, reading billboards outloud compulsively, saying thoughts outloud compulsively. I'm sure there are others but those are the main ones.
I was recently prescribed zoloft for anxiety and depression but I've noticed it has helped tremendously with the OCD.

I know how it can be deeply corrosive to the spirit. After so much time being plagued by it I started to truly empathize with characters in horror movies who were haunted by inescapable demons.
But time and reconceptualizing the OCD as a false alarm has helped tremendously. Use this phrase “this does not require my attention”. Recognize that the OCD is like a broken alarm that will never not be annoying, but you learn to ignore. That helped me a lot to be where I’m now mostly out of the woods. I still have the occasional nagging doubt, but it’s nothing like it was before.

I actually remember the first time I had an irrational thought. And it scared me so that I stared avoiding it and repeating another thought. The opposite of the scary one. My parents did not notice anything. Because my rituals where inside my head. I mentally broke down when I went to another school. With news environment. Where I couldn't keep those thoughts in my mind. It started at 12 and I went to the new school at 15. After a few months in my new school. I told my mom and we went to an psychologist. And the doctor gave me some medicine that helped. But it helped only with stopping the obsessive thoughts. Those that I was repeating. I'm still scared of my own thoughts. Even though they are not the same as those at 12 years old. I still avoid to do the things that scare me. Even though its something like looking at something.

The goal would be to remain in Awareness 24/7, which would make you completely invulnerable to all intrusive thoughts.
Wishing you all the best 😊❤

I just want to say these comments helped me out so much and I finally know now after so long that the thoughts are not real. I know now I do have ocd and I’m willing to over come it. For so long I have struggled with invasive thoughts coming in and out as they please. I thought I was a horrible person for ever thinking those things. Constantly crying and being anxious to shutting everything and everyone out because I didn’t want to deal with the thoughts anymore and if there wasn’t anything to deal with there wasn’t anything to think. I would pray and pray for these to just go away and ask god for forgiveness for ever thinking them ,Never forgiving myself. I thought I was being a selfish asshole and the thing is they really fuck with you. I would over think it and then start thinking about it even more to the point where I felt like just passing out. Know your not alone and we can fight this.

I got diagnosed with ocd at 17 I am now nearly 22. When I say its so mentally draining and emotionally and physically it really is, I do have coping mechanisms when I sleep well and exercise and keep a good maintained diet sometimes I don't even notice that it is there. But everything you said is how my ocd is getting up and down off the toilet seat for an example 7 times because ocd says if you don't you have to act out on this thought etc etc. It is tough but I'm working on it. I hope everyone who has ocd is having a good day and rememeber your anxiety is not who you are, thoughts are just thoughts. ❤️

Practicing Awareness means simply observing your thoughts and negative feelings in a detached manner. Realize you ARE the observer/the Awareness and not the observed thoughts. You are completely free of all of your thoughts if you do not identify with them and simply observe them from a distance. We use to go on long fun rides. Until I had the thought "I'm going to jump off the bike" "just jump" "what if I actually jump myself off?" It scared me so much and made me so uncomfortable that I stopped going for rides... Finally the other day after two years of not riding, I got back on and we went on a 60 mile trip. I worked through it and I did really good! I felt comfortable. Thank goodness for RUclips! Btw jumping off the bike is just one of the countless thoughts I deal with.

Some only lasted a short time while others that's scared me the most lasted more. What helped me was knowing everyone even people that don't have ocd have bizarre thoughts it's just us who suffer ocd we get caught in a vicious cycle thinking" What ifs" also what helped me just let my intrusive thoughts be there accept them. I watch this video to calm down and reduce my anxiety whenever my intrusive thoughts are overwhelming. This is the 1st & only video I've come across on RUclips on "pure OCD" which describes exactly what I have which
I never knew the name of until I came across this video. The 1st time I had very bad intrusive thoughts, I was losing my mind and having panick attacks left and right. Fortunately I saw a psychologist for several years who calmed me down and healed me 90% by diagnosing me with OCD and helping me understand and manage these thoughts.
Thank God for this amazing psychologist & for MedCircle 🙏.

I might not qualify for an OCD diagnosis but I get these intrusive thoughts all the time with social anxiety. There's a hell of a lot of overlap between anxiety disorders.
I have compulsive behaviours like, reflexively looking away from people to avoid eye contact, wondering if people are looking at me and laughing. I have to practice pushing my attention elsewhere when these thoughts arise.

My age of 12 was exactly the Golden Debut of my intrusive thoughts. I call it so fanciful because right in this period obsessive thoughts and overthinking hit me so bad that I never imagined. It might sound silly, but I read the article that traumatized me very much so I couldn’t even finish reading and just closed the tab. And then I thought I was okay, I didn’t even remember about this one for a long, but one day... one day I realized I always feel like my brain encourages me to reread that article and eventually get to end of it. I’ve never faced anything like this before. I knew nothing about GAD/OCD and didn’t know what’s happening to me. It was getting harder and harder to deal with eternal anxiety and compulsions and one night I decided to find that article and read it again. I did it. And then the horrible stripe hit me. I had intrusiveness EVERY SINGLE DAY. I always remembered and retold that text in my head. I retold the lines traumatized me the most. And every single day I felt like I must come back to reread it again even though I’ve already read it to its damn end. I really thought it would pacify me and my brain, but everything became even worse than before. I couldn’t stop thinking. I was afraid of going to bed at nights because thoughts always got harder at nights. I started thinking what if something bad would happen. I was scared it would or even have already happened.
After this this kind of behavior became my usual one. There isn’t even a month when I wouldn’t have any intrusive thoughts about something. It’s been years since this article situation, but obsessive compulsive problems haunt me even more as I think. I miss the moment I didn’t feel anything like this. I just wanna be normal. Normal. Healthy. Without any intrusivenesses. When I was 12 I had the close one to share it all with (something like my first love), but now I don’t have anyone and moreover even if I had there’s no way to me to share it with them. I’m ashamed and confused. I’m introverted. I don’t imagine how I could share my anxiety problems (much less the reasons and triggers) with someone and I had no idea how I did it several years ago.

I overthink everything I think, I do, I feel. I always wondered if I really had OCD or I was just an obsessive thinker. But knowing that I have OCD and embracing it makes me feel a little bit better. The fears doesn't control me like they used to, but Feelings do. Physical responses to horrible thoughts makes me feel horrible and hopeless. But I am constantly in a mental process of reaching the point where I know this is all because of fear. I know God will guide me to the correct path and make me feel happy with who I am and my useless thoughts. This video was so helpful to understand more what I am going through, because my thoughts erases logic and reality sometimes. Thank you.

I had this and then it magically went away. And I had it for years growing up but I did not really panic when I got them, I stood strong. Even now when I think of the time it happened It doesn’t effect, I’ve grown out of it. Trust me it will go eventually just stay busy.

Wishing you all the best 😊❤

Goddd!! Intrusive thoughts are really tough ….to go through..honestly. Sometimes these unwanted and unusual thoughts occupy my brain SOOO much that i actually force myself to watch a horror movie so that at least for a couple of hours i can avoid these thoughts completely.. and the thoughts are sooo unusual that i don’t even have the gut to tell it to anyone ..

I hope everyone becomes well, I struggle with this it really is a struggle. I’m slowly getting better using hypnosis and mediation. We can all get through this.

i feel so alone because i feel that my intrusive thoughts aren't considered OCD or intrusive. theyre thoughts that i never wouldve ever guessed would be protruding through my brain in my LIFE and make me feel so sick and sad. its hard to convince myself theyre just thoughts and not feelings because it feels so real. :(

I know it’s not good to self diagnose but I know with 100% certainty, not a single doubt in my mind, I have OCD and I am terrified of telling anyone because they won’t believe me. I have tried telling my family I have “issues” before like my social anxiety and no one believed me until I went to a therapist, its wrong, Maybe have some doubt but to dismiss something that important that someone is so evidently serious about is cruel. I wish YOU ALL nothing but the absolutely best, love you guys. ❤️

OMG, I was diagnosed with opssesive compulsive disorder (OCD)when I was 17, now I am 39, and I still fight with this desease. My opsessive thoughts are telling me: you are not going to sleep, I will not let you, so I have been dealing with insomnia for 22 years now. So not only I have these opssesive thoughts but also insomnia is torturing me. There were times I wanted to give up, because I couldn't stand all that torture anymore, I think I am running out of hope.. Sorry for my English, I am not a native speaker.

Full transparency, this brought a tear to my eye, like feeling like someone understands. I'm not diagnosed with OCD. When she said it could take up an hour of a day, I thought, "I wish!" Crazy.

This resonates with me so much. I've been suffering with this my whole life. I feel like I can't talk about it because I know my thoughts are stupid or possibly not even real. Ive been diagnosed with an anxiety disorder but I feel like that doesn't even cover it. I feel like I've missed out on so much because I'm stuck in my head

Acknowledgement is the key. Acknowledge your thoughts and start by small to control your emotions related to your intrusive thoughts. Talk to yourself. Consider the thought as your alter ego. Listen to thoughts but acknowledge it that it is just a thought. I have tried it on myself and it works within some time.
