The best way to check if it's fake is by taking it apart and seeing if the main IC is covered by epoxy. If it is covered by epoxy, it's fake. Also, make sure it has the plastic board caddy; if not, it's fake. Just because it shows up as a PlayStation 3 controller doesn't mean it's real; there are plenty of reports of fakes showing up as PlayStation 3 controllers when connected to a computer.

Also, the texture of the controller just feels fake as hell. The sticker on the back of the controller looks phony. Plus the controller feels really light in the hand. Mines not showing up so i searched in Bluetooth settings for other devices and it shows up that my brand-new controller is legit meanwhile my other controller only says ps3 controller..

$50 for a Fake is too Much. In South East Asia its around $8 including Shipping. Also The Fakes Dont have six axis so Good Luck On games that Require them although i dont know any 😂😂
They also don’t have pressure sensitive buttons, which can either change the way a game plays or, like in Gran Turismo 6, won’t even work at all. I had to buy an OEM controller because the x o[] ^ buttons didn’t do anything
These days if you want a real sony-made DualShock 3 controller, your best option is to find and buy a used one, make sure the buttons and analog sticks work, disassemble it and fix whatever might not be working, and clean off all the plastic pieces. That's what I did with my used DS3 controller and it works like a charm. When I disassembled my controller to clean off the plastic pieces, i did so with an old toothbrush and a small bucket of water, and dishwashing soap. In the end, just pat the plastic gently with a dry rag and let the controller dry off for 1 hour before putting everything back together again.
I suppose your idea is a good approach for many gamers who find themselves in the circumstantial problem of finding a real DS3 controller to use on their PS3. However, individuals, like me, who value the appropriateness of using the correct original accessories with the correct consoles they originally belonged to all for the purpose of the nostalgic experience (which is: both physically holding the controller for use on the correct console and visually looking at the game), using a DS4 controller on a PS3 is literally just taking shortcuts to solve what the problem really is which is finding a functional and "REAL" DS3 controller. If I didn't care about nostalgia in gaming, I probably would agree with your advice. @@BobBobOnRUclips
Yes is usable , but has some issues the battery sucks and after 2 months I got stickdrift , if want a cheap one or buy a used one or a third party new one

Another way you can tell is if you have a backwards compatible ps3, the controller will disconnect when playing ps2 games
