Try Popti dish in Raigad- Ratnagiri district , Maharashtra. Especially you get December to January months. In Surat, Navsari district you will get Undaiyu dish. It's amazing.........
In ancient and early mediaeval India even North Indian food was served on banana leaves. Later due to Persian influence due to Mughal rule North adopted thali.

Loved their quintessential dhokla and daal batti churma , chutneys and pickles ,followed by unlimited supply of rotis,aloo parathas and Puri with a variety of subzi and daals.
