Eh...crime rate overall in America is falling, while mass shootings (in suburban malls, schools cinemas etc) are rising. So maybe the urban poor is not the "wildlife" you should be watching out for.
2:11 Actually the MP5SD is specifically designed to reduce standard 9mm ammo (which is supersonic) to sub-sonic velocities. The entire barrel has vents along it to bleed off pressure and reduce velocity. So, no, the bullets probably aren't going faster. They are going even slower than the rounds out of the handgun, which is evident from the fact the dents aren't as deep.
It's funny because he said they were traveling faster but the caption said otherwise. It showed 1100 fps for the Glock and 950 fps for the MP5. At least the video editors knew what they were talking about.
Excellent point. I'd also note that even the thinner weaker steel used in most cars, is pretty detrimental to ballistic peformance. I'll take any car's door for cover, if someone was shooting at me, over standing with no protection.
Agree, this was done intentionally because the MP5 is used in close quarters and you don't want the round punching through multiple walls and hitting people several rooms away. Same reason you don't go using 223 in close quarters...

Not sure why you'd be nervous about the Tommy Gun, it's just .45 which is deadly to humans but isn't known for penetration. For a real test, try some rifle rounds, although seeing the damaged window after the shotgun hit it isn't very promising since buck/bird shot isn't known for penetration either. From what Tesla engineers said it’s only bulletproof to subsonic rounds. I’m not a gun expert but I think that few people use those unless they plan on using a silencer.
It's not even subsonic round proof. JerryRigEverything did a video where he tested some other bullets and even a round carrying half of a subsonic 7.62x39's energy went through the door.
@@rickybobbydastar6534 Subsonic means it's travelling at less than 343 m/s which is the speed of sound. These rounds are quieter because there's no sonic boom (loud cracking sound caused by multiple shockwaves compressed together created by an object travelling faster than the speed of sound). With less speed also comes less energy carried with the bullet.
Was looking for the comment. I was gonna say all of these rounds must be traveling way slower than standard for this video. Any of these rounds would be piercing this truck otherwise.
I think the reason the bullets don't penetrate: A) It's a flexible steel so it has some room to act like an inertia cushion. B) That 1.8-2.0mm adds structural rigidity.
@@miguellopez3392 Mate. Flexibility is incredibly important in steel - especially in an application like this. What does not flex, breaks. The cybertruck is likely made out of 301 spring steel. Yes, it's strong, yes it's hard. But it is also elastic, which is incredibly important. It can bend and flex, then return to it's original shape without damage. And yes, spring steel is a type of hardened steel.
@Artyomthewalrus it's their own formula of harden cold rolled steel.l they use on the starship rockets. Flexibility is important in crunch zones, and the structure is designed to collapse despite the harden steel.
@@miguellopez3392 mate, they said it themselves in this very video "a special alloy designed to be ductile". You need the ductility in everything mechanical except the very surface layer of stuff that experiences a ton of sliding like gears, endmills, saws, other mechanical components. @GTAmaniac1 designed to be dutile so it doesn't damage the equipment that bends it but still primarily a harden steel which is why it cant be bent into a smoother shape, what you are thinking more of is things like modern katana swords and train rail, the metal sheet is to thin to really take advantage of soft core.
People do aim for windows… doesn’t mean they’ll hit them though. And this is more to show off how strong the truck is rather than saying it’ll save your life. If it’s bulletproof then it’ll probably be fine against a 2x4 falling onto it or something.
@@armanalasvandian1376 I don't think so. They eve showed the one cracked when it hit the door, so my guess is that with that particular shot, the window would probably have shattered, but didn't since the door took most of the force.
I’m really glad I got to see this test. I was on the fence about the cyber truck being as it’s huge weight diminishes range for no real benefit, it’s almost certainly going to kill me if I crash in it, it certainly will kill any pedestrians I crash into, it’s cargo capacity is absolutely terrible, and it’s hugely expensive compared to its competition. But now I’ve seen it’s doors can resist some handgun bullets I’m absolutely sold. After all that is my number one priority for a road vehicle.
It's crash tests are very good, especially side crash tests. If you collide with another suv, you will probably go through it like butter. So its an anti SUV weapon. If i was tesla that's how i would market it.
Okay first off this is pretty impressive. I do wanna point out a couple of things though: Each firearm transition, besides the glock to the MP5 was a downgrade in muzzle energy, and each test was consecutively weaker than the last. .45 has more energy on impact than 9mm, even out of a 4 inch barrel (I’ll be back to the mp5 in a sec), and each 00 buck pellet carries even less energy than the 9mm. Buckshot is effective as when all pellets hit an object, the energy is multiplied per pellet to the target as a whole, however for testing penetration, each pellet can only deliver its own penetrative energy the more the pellets spread, which is typically less than 9mm, unless you get multiple pellets in the exact same impact spot (which did happen here.) or a much tighter spread. The closer together the pellets, the more penetrative power buckshot will have. again, this is still pretty impressive. Second, to my knowledge, the 8 inch suppressor would not increase velocity, at least by any significant amount on top of the 4 inch barrel as the grooves of the barrel (which help increase velocity and pressure) don’t exist in the suppressor. Feel free to fact check me on this Lastly, would be super cool to see how it holds up to rifle fire, as rifle cartridges deliver SIGNIFICANTLY more energy on impact than handguns or individual shotgun pellets, and have drastically more penetrative power due to much higher velocities. I’m sure someone will test it at some point. Edit, for 1.8mm thick, that’s still insane
You have made the same observation I made. BTW The MP5 SD actually slows down the bullet. It is not the suppressor that does this, but rather the design of the barrel itself. immediately after the chamber itself HK has drilled holes in the barrel in order to vent gas, thus reducing the pressure propelling the bullet. The reason for this is that the MP5 SD is designed to use standard issue NATO rounds, which are hypersonic. In order to create a 'silent' weapon with full power rounds, HK needed a way to bring the speed down to subsonic velocities, thereby negating the sonic boom created by hypersonic rounds. So yeah, you got it right the HK actually shoots a slower round than the Glock.
@@rustygear447True but they have now very clearly used the fact that it is Bulletproof to advertise the truck and actively compare it to other trucks on the market. 5.56mm would punch through. It was not designed for body armor (which is why the Army is looking at the Sig 6.8 round) but it still has a ton more kinetic energy than these handgun rounds. This is still an impressive demo, however!
It wouldn't stop the majority of rifle rounds. Velocity defeats armor. There's a reason they only chose 45acp, 9mm target rounds and shotgun shells because they are lower in velocity. There are some dedicated higher velocity armor piercing 9mm that would go through that. Any 5.56 would go through that without any trouble. In fact standard military m855 62 grain green tip goes through most steel and armor unless it's specifically classified to stop rifle rounds. Just think that .223/5.56 is a varmint/small game hunting round. Try .308/7.62x51 or 30-06 etc and it will blow a hole through both sides of that truck just like any other vehicle. I'll be surprised if we don't see people who up-armour vehicles for VIP protection start using it as a base - a CT not only has decent protection even without the additional armour, but also the power to carry it and the speed to get out of trouble in a hurry.
They used pretty much the maximum calibers this truck will stop. Basically typical handgun rounds, but not all handgun rounds (.357 Mag will probably go through). In other words the vehicle was not designed to be bullet proof and there are dozens of calibers that will easily cut through like butter (like any other car). About the only positive thing you can say is that it could stop some rounds in some situations. If you want a bullet proof car, you can have one modified. It's not even subsonic round proof. JerryRigEverything did a video where he tested some other bullets and even a round carrying half of a subsonic 7.62x39's energy went through the door.
@@tomiik5195what’s a subsonic bullet ?
@@rickybobbydastar6534 Subsonic means it's travelling at less than 343 m/s which is the speed of sound. This makes me more confident in starship using the same 301 stainless steel. Absolutely incredible.
Is it the same alloy? That's quite interesting!
The reason the cybertruck exists in the first place is too mass manufacture stainless steel and bring it cost down to eventually produce the Starship
Starship does NOT use 301, it uses a custom 304L alloy
Cybertruck is made with the same alloy as Starship.
I think the reason the bullets don't penetrate: A) It's a flexible steel so it has some room to act like an inertia cushion.
B) That 1.8-2.0mm adds structural rigidity.
It's not a flexible steel, its a harden steel, its what makes it resistant to dents and why they can't bend it into curves.
@@miguellopez3392
Mate.
@GTAmaniac1 designed to be dutile so it doesn't damage the equipment that bends it but still primarily a harden steel which is why it cant be bent into a smoother shape, what you are thinking more of is things like modern katana swords and train rail, the metal sheet is to thin to really take advantage of soft core.

we all thankyou very much :D there are not many to go round !
It won’t be bad if you buy the shares
Okay first off this is pretty impressive. I do wanna point out a couple of things though:
Each firearm transition, besides the glock to the MP5 was a downgrade in muzzle energy, and each test was consecutively weaker than the last. .45 has more energy on impact than 9mm, even out of a 4 inch barrel (I’ll be back to the mp5 in a sec), and each 00 buck pellet carries even less energy than the 9mm.
Feel free to fact check me on this
Lastly, would be super cool to see how it holds up to rifle fire, as rifle cartridges deliver SIGNIFICANTLY more energy on impact than handguns or individual shotgun pellets, and have drastically more penetrative power due to much higher velocities. I’m sure someone will test it at some point.
Edit, for 1.8mm thick, that’s still insane
I think you're mostly right. There's no way it stops 5.56 or 7.62. Probably not going to stop 5.7 from a pistol or carbine either.
I think you're taking this way too seriously. It's not an armored vehicle. this is just for fun so chill out
@@rustygear447True but they have now very clearly used the fact that it is Bulletproof to advertise the truck and actively compare it to other trucks on the market.

If you bought them December 2020, you have like 10-20% return, while March 2020 would give you 800% return. 2020 was a crazy year for Stock Market, especially Tesla, which grew almost eightfold during 2020, but then got stuck on December 2020 value until today basically.
What do you need the second one for?
Hold on to the stocks. As crazy as this might sound, Tesla is just getting started. Also watch the amazing Cybertruck review by Haggerty. You will finally see what the Cybertruck truly is.

Was about to say that lol. Poor truck
Selling my lightly used Cyber Truck, its never been shot at, hit with hammers, and not once hit by a shopping cart. 67 tiny dings on the side, hardly noticeable. $100k
They had a shotgun - should have tried a slug as well as the buckshot.
What about shrapnel from a grenade? That'll be interesting...
Obviously, the weakest spots are the windows, but they can be replaced with bulletproof glass. It's always a tradeoff though, and your mileage will suffer, as well as the cost of installation being pretty high, unless you DIY.
@@hxhdfjifzirstc894 some rounds? like 90% of rounds that are used in urban settings, for what this car is designed for.
vip protection... they also should make some hack-a-day to try break control system of car to see how fast it could be opened or overspeed into the wall
@@rajahziathey used sub sonic rounds maxing out at 1000fps . There are a lot of rounds that exceed that speed
Wondering if AK-74 bullet or anything automatic and military grade will be stopped. I assume not.
Very cool. You guy's kind of glossed over that MP5SD it is the best gun on that table and the best submachine gun ever made. You need to market this truck to law enforcement. Being a former Deputy myself, I would have loved this as a patrol vehicle.
people would somehow find a way to complain about it, maybe they'd go for the "militarized police" route
without any door handles? Doesn't seem that suitable to me
MPX begs to differ
Maybe used as a pit truck but I don’t see long range chases going very well on a battery. Imagine crashing one. Lots of damage all around, especially if the battery catches fire.
How often do batteries catch fire?
I appreciate the fact that they mentioned and showed that one of the bullets got thru, they could pretend on set like it's not there and then erase it in post.
Now ask why they didn't shoot the glass or anything else... it's a marketing gimmick lols
@@jefftc14 what do you expect from glass?

2:05 the 9mm is going slower because the MP5SD bleeds gas to keep the round subsonic. 115 grain is normally supersonic.
Tesla's engineers said this will only stop sub sonic rounds like the .45. It will not stop anything else. A bit of false advertising I think.
@@RealJeepyeah no shit, it's Elmo's project, of course it's full of false advertising. I wonder why they didn't try shooting the windows...
The video said that out of the Glock, the 115 grain were traveling at 1100 fps, which is _just_ under the supersonic speed of 1125. Out of the MP5, they were doing 950 fps. Personally, I'd like to see how it would fare against .44 Magnum, 300 grain, hard cast, wadcutters. I don't really care how slow it's moving, that round is a freight train. Not saying this isn't an impressive demonstration. I just really want to see some perfectly round holes in these doors.

Pretty good showing against pistol caliber rounds. Just curious… Have you guys tested it against 5.56 or 7.62?
