2:11 Actually the MP5SD is specifically designed to reduce standard 9mm ammo (which is supersonic) to sub-sonic velocities. The entire barrel has vents along it to bleed off pressure and reduce velocity. So, no, the bullets probably aren't going faster. They are going even slower than the rounds out of the handgun, which is evident from the fact the dents aren't as deep.
It's funny because he said they were traveling faster but the caption said otherwise. It showed 1100 fps for the Glock and 950 fps for the MP5. At least the video editors knew what they were talking about.
Excellent point. I'd also note that even the thinner weaker steel used in most cars, is pretty detrimental to ballistic peformance. I'll take any car's door for cover, if someone was shooting at me, over standing with no protection.
Agree, this was done intentionally because the MP5 is used in close quarters and you don't want the round punching through multiple walls and hitting people several rooms away. Same reason you don't go using 223 in close quarters...

Not sure why you'd be nervous about the Tommy Gun, it's just .45 which is deadly to humans but isn't known for penetration. For a real test, try some rifle rounds, although seeing the damaged window after the shotgun hit it isn't very promising since buck/bird shot isn't known for penetration either. Of course, context is important since the Cybertruck isn't built to be truly bullet proof, just resistant up to a point. So for a not truly armored vehicle, it did pretty well!
For how "advanced" and heavy this truck is, I would want it to at least stop green tip 5.56 rounds. There's no way this thing will be bullet proof and a common thing. Rich people and people considered VIP will be riding around in these awful looking trucks.
@@hungryalienthey mentioned faster stuff or ap will go thru.. but thats the case for any car. These stop a lot of commonly carried calibers. Itll give you a better chance then any other vehicle from factory without going to a specific armoring center.

In Europe we are more worried about how they are gonna get you out in a crash. Can't easily break the windows or the bullet-proof steel, so I guess you'll just burn to death in the worst case. But at least you won't be shot...
I was hoping they'd show a rifle but I can't blame them lol. For 99% of population, pistols are what you'd need to worry about anyways for things like carjackings. I wonder what it would take to get one rated for .762; maybe same panels with a gap? (I am by no means a ballistics/armor expert lol)

Selling my lightly used Cyber Truck, its never been shot at, hit with hammers, and not once hit by a shopping cart. 67 tiny dings on the side, hardly noticeable. $100k
I think the reason the bullets don't penetrate: A) It's a flexible steel so it has some room to act like an inertia cushion. B) That 1.8-2.0mm adds structural rigidity.
@@miguellopez3392 Mate. Flexibility is incredibly important in steel - especially in an application like this. What does not flex, breaks. The cybertruck is likely made out of 301 spring steel. Yes, it's strong, yes it's hard. But it is also elastic, which is incredibly important. It can bend and flex, then return to it's original shape without damage. And yes, spring steel is a type of hardened steel.
@Artyomthewalrus it's their own formula of harden cold rolled steel.l they use on the starship rockets. Flexibility is important in crunch zones, and the structure is designed to collapse despite the harden steel.
@@miguellopez3392 mate, they said it themselves in this very video "a special alloy designed to be ductile". You need the ductility in everything mechanical except the very surface layer of stuff that experiences a ton of sliding like gears, endmills, saws, other mechanical components. Those still need a ductile core to not shatter under impacts because stuff that doesn't bend, shatters.
@GTAmaniac1 designed to be dutile so it doesn't damage the equipment that bends it but still primarily a harden steel which is why it cant be bent into a smoother shape, what you are thinking more of is things like modern katana swords and train rail, the metal sheet is to thin to really take advantage of soft core.
People do aim for windows… doesn’t mean they’ll hit them though. And this is more to show off how strong the truck is rather than saying it’ll save your life. If it’s bulletproof then it’ll probably be fine against a 2x4 falling onto it or something.
It’s because the public couldn’t understand the vision about the truck. Now the people will see what is it about it. ✌🏻 It is not advertised as an “armored vehicle”. To me, this is the “next level”. The irony in all of this with the Cybertruck is that AMA52K by Amazon had this plan for long time and it basically in every way outperforms this thing.
Okay first off this is pretty impressive. I do wanna point out a couple of things though: Each firearm transition, besides the glock to the MP5 was a downgrade in muzzle energy, and each test was consecutively weaker than the last. .45 has more energy on impact than 9mm, even out of a 4 inch barrel (I’ll be back to the mp5 in a sec), and each 00 buck pellet carries even less energy than the 9mm. Buckshot is effective as when all pellets hit an object, the energy is multiplied per pellet to the target as a whole, however for testing penetration, each pellet can only deliver its own penetrative energy the more the pellets spread, which is typically less than 9mm, unless you get multiple pellets in the exact same impact spot (which did happen here.) or a much tighter spread. The closer together the pellets, the more penetrative power buckshot will have. again, this is still pretty impressive. Second, to my knowledge, the 8 inch suppressor would not increase velocity, at least by any significant amount on top of the 4 inch barrel as the grooves of the barrel (which help increase velocity and pressure) don’t exist in the suppressor. Feel free to fact check me on this Lastly, would be super cool to see how it holds up to rifle fire, as rifle cartridges deliver SIGNIFICANTLY more energy on impact than handguns or individual shotgun pellets, and have drastically more penetrative power due to much higher velocities. I’m sure someone will test it at some point. Edit, for 1.8mm thick, that’s still insane
You have made the same observation I made. BTW The MP5 SD actually slows down the bullet. It is not the suppressor that does this, but rather the design of the barrel itself. immediately after the chamber itself HK has drilled holes in the barrel in order to vent gas, thus reducing the pressure propelling the bullet. The reason for this is that the MP5 SD is designed to use standard issue NATO rounds, which are hypersonic. In order to create a 'silent' weapon with full power rounds, HK needed a way to bring the speed down to subsonic velocities, thereby negating the sonic boom created by hypersonic rounds. So yeah, you got it right the HK actually shoots a slower round than the Glock.
@@rustygear447True but they have now very clearly used the fact that it is Bulletproof to advertise the truck and actively compare it to other trucks on the market. This brings people to inspect it closer, I mean it is impressive in what it can actually stop but it's not "Bulletproof" per se but it is advertised as being Bulletproof.
@@magisterrleth3129 Bullet resistant. Most gangbangers have pistol caliber weapons (Hi Points, Polymer 80 Glock clones) which these doors will stop, even point blank at 90 degree impacts. Angled impact will increase resistance further.

Capitalising the previous steel ball incident as a step in marketing the current version is a marketing genius, and honestly appealing, given how safe it would make people using the vehicle, especially in zones with moderate to high crime rates.
The steel ball incident was obviously marketing as well. Elon knew it would get the Cybertruck a lot of attention. Elon used the old "any press is good press" strategy.
@@tylerjerome4365 I think it would generally be a move-out period because that's abnormal for your average city; yes crime happens, yes people get shot but if you ever feel you "need" a bullet resistant/proof vehicle to live in an area there are honestly better places to live.
Any car door will stop shotgun pellets at that range, my God dam carrhart coat did the same thing when my hunting buddy shot me in the opposite ditch with a 12 gauge shotgun fifteen feet away, real life is not like what you see in movies
They had a shotgun - should have tried a slug as well as the buckshot. What about shrapnel from a grenade? That'll be interesting... I'll be surprised if we don't see people who up-armour vehicles for VIP protection start using it as a base - a CT not only has decent protection even without the additional armour, but also the power to carry it and the speed to get out of trouble in a hurry.
They used pretty much the maximum calibers this truck will stop. Basically typical handgun rounds, but not all handgun rounds (.357 Mag will probably go through). In other words the vehicle was not designed to be bullet proof and there are dozens of calibers that will easily cut through like butter (like any other car). About the only positive thing you can say is that it could stop some rounds in some situations. If you want a bullet proof car, you can have one modified. Obviously, the weakest spots are the windows, but they can be replaced with bulletproof glass. It's always a tradeoff though, and your mileage will suffer, as well as the cost of installation being pretty high, unless you DIY.
vip protection... they also should make some hack-a-day to try break control system of car to see how fast it could be opened or overspeed into the wall
Yes, because when I purchase a vehicle I really need to consider whether or not it is bullet proof since I live in a small rural town in the North of England.
For those of us who are NOT pretentious Americans, the thickness of the steel is about 0.072", or slightly thicker than 16-gauge steel. Normal body panels are 18 gauge or thinner. For reference, a Delorean would hold up even better than the Cybertruck. What makes this somewhat impressive is the ductile nature of the stainless alloy they are using. That's what is allowing it to deform and stretch without failure. A mild-steel 16-gauge panel would not stop a bullet, though an aluminum panel of about the same thickness might.

I'd love to own this specific cybertruck with the bullet none hole dents

In fairness the guy is a Tesla employee so he's probably not a gun expert. I still think that police forces will be throwing money at this.

(I am by no means a ballistics/armor expert lol)

marketing at its finest, they didnt use rifle bullets and you know why
Selling my lightly used Cyber Truck, its never been shot at, hit with hammers, and not once hit by a shopping cart. 67 tiny dings on the side, hardly noticeable. $100k
I think the reason the bullets don't penetrate: A) It's a flexible steel so it has some room to act like an inertia cushion.
B) That 1.8-2.0mm adds structural rigidity.
It's not a flexible steel, its a harden steel, its what makes it resistant to dents and why they can't bend it into curves.
@@miguellopez3392
Mate.
The way it absorbs kinetic energy given by bullet is appreciable 👍
Where is the 5.56?
I assume you can use this ghastly looking vehicle once the purge starts in the USA
I think folks usually aim for windows anyways but it’s neat that a vehicle is finally (partial) cover instead of just concealment.
I mean if you got the money to afford this truck then you got the money to commission some ballistic glass replacements for all of its windows.
I think Elon may be putting some special glass on the truck
If you find your self in that situation then duck down
People do aim for windows… doesn’t mean they’ll hit them though.
And this is more to show off how strong the truck is rather than saying it’ll save your life.
If it’s bulletproof then it’ll probably be fine against a 2x4 falling onto it or something.

Cartels: I want that truck.
Tesla: How many?

Perfect for St. Louis commutes
Okay first off this is pretty impressive. I do wanna point out a couple of things though:
Each firearm transition, besides the glock to the MP5 was a downgrade in muzzle energy, and each test was consecutively weaker than the last. .45 has more energy on impact than 9mm, even out of a 4 inch barrel (I’ll be back to the mp5 in a sec), and each 00 buck pellet carries even less energy than the 9mm.
Feel free to fact check me on this
Lastly, would be super cool to see how it holds up to rifle fire, as rifle cartridges deliver SIGNIFICANTLY more energy on impact than handguns or individual shotgun pellets, and have drastically more penetrative power due to much higher velocities. I’m sure someone will test it at some point.
Edit, for 1.8mm thick, that’s still insane
I think you're mostly right. There's no way it stops 5.56 or 7.62. Probably not going to stop 5.7 from a pistol or carbine either.
I think you're taking this way too seriously. It's not an armored vehicle. this is just for fun so chill out
@@rustygear447True but they have now very clearly used the fact that it is Bulletproof to advertise the truck and actively compare it to other trucks on the market.
