Thank you so much for this video. I was thinking about buying a patio Villa and then you said that most of the Airbnb are located in patio Villa communities. I don’t know if people understand how devastating it is to have a neighborhood of short term rentals. If I bought a patio villa and it turned into an Airbnb neighborhood, I would lose my shirt, but I would sell and get out. I can’t believe that The Villages even permits Airbnb. It might be the thing that takes them down.
My brother lives in Florida but is going to sell and move back to his old house because of HOA Fee's and Insurance for his home was so high. For what he will save he can snowbird for 3 months year and not stuck in the same area.
We rented in October our first TV visit. We truly loved it but can’t move there permanently due to medical issues but will rent. Wish healthcare was a little better in that area.
Skip, you and Sue have lived in the villages for years. Do you find that you and Sue want to continue to live there. There seems to be a lot happening now in the villages and some stuff not pleasant. I enjoy your videos very much.
I don’t live in the Villages but live in small apt complex and two of them are air b&b , you never know who’s living next to you with strangers walking in and out !
I just looked on the VLS website...lots of pre-owned homes available in the Villages of Newell, Dabney & Lake Denham. And these homes are probably 18 to 20 months old at most. Why so many pre-owned homes available in this area that are almost new?

Just because you live in a neighborhood is not an excuse to avoid basic security. When we moved here in 2013 the Sumter Sheriff’s Dept had programs whereby you can have a deputy do a security review if your home. VERY GOOD Advice. Considerate of budget: gave both low cost and preferred security measures. #1) Put a peep hole and dead-bolt in the door from the laundry to the garage. Do your own security analysis. Where are the most vulnerable points of entry? What will you do? Exactly how? Are you ready for that?
Pedestrian killed on Old Mill & Buena Vista: As a Village Resident since 2013 I cannot tell you how many many many times these stupid people just step out into traffic without looking left or right. Not even once! It happens mostly at shopping centers, well outside of crosswalks - but also at every other imaginable area of a street or boulevard. There needs to be safety education for these idiots! They all can’t be from California. What surprises me is that we are from the ‘Stop, look (both ways)band Listen’ generation.
We live next to a Air B and B in a designer neighborhood. It is horrible and owner rents to anyone who will pay the rent with no concern for neighbors. We hate rentals as renters don’t care they are in a retirement community. All rentals should be banned.
Thanks for keeping us updated Skip...anyone considering purchasing in The Villages needs to get the full picture of what happens in The Villages. It's not all golf cart parades & dancing at the squares every night. I bet the residents in the newer villages of Dabney, Newell & Lake Denham are less than happy to hear about the large proposed increase in their maintenance fees. Some of those owners bought their homes less than 2 years ago.
@@kenpeters9807 So your saying being woken up while someone enters your home to steel or kill you is overrated? What about while your not home, you come home and notice the front or back door open and the inside is tossed and your valuables are gone.
Safety should be top of the list. Keep gate attendants 24 hours it’s a deterrent. Enforce the speed limits and put in a slow zone in LSL where the walker was run over. More and brighter lights are needed. Find a way to keep non residents out as much as possible. The Airbnbs bring too many people. The solicitors case the homes while they are here and the recreation centers need to be gated/resident only access.
Villages of St John’s is in #13 too…. We already received our letter 1 week ago with the increase Total…. Meeting is going to be a joke…Thanks for your reports Skip👍
The sooner the Villagers realize that the developer doesn't care about what they see as problems be it Airbnb, maintenane increases etc once he gets your money, the happier they'll be. Or maybe even more pissed off. TV is just another ugly suburban town. The only difference between it and others is its supposedly 55 and over and lots of activities for residents.
So Don & his wife are not going to live in their new home in The Village of Shady Brook? Will the Shady Brook home be a long term rental or a short-term rental property?
Interestingly enough, that's the second death "recently" of a Villager being runover by a medical worker who's rushing to work. It appears, that young medical professionals are killing retired Villagers.😁
My question that everyone is dancing around is, what is the current maintenance fee and what will it be raised to? Is it now lower than other districts and be raised to what other districts pay??
I think many people are driving too fast and the speed limit near Lake Sumter is 25 mph not 35 mph! I hope the walker that was hit was not the walker that I know, the walker that I know does not drive because she used to live in a major city where she didn’t need to drive since there was much public transportation, and she live near Lake Sumter and just walked everywhere even the grocery.
The Villages Developer has said they are reducing the CDD 14 and Middleton by paying $2,000,000. Skip, I sent you the information so you can update your news.
We thought about moving after a visit but not now! We will stay in our pleasant city in Michigan. No thanks! We don’t want our retirement nest egg making the villages richer! Too much crime and nonsense.
When I drive and the sun is rising or the sun is setting I always have on a hat that helps block out the sun and also my sun visor on the car and also I really slow down if I have trouble seeing. I wonder if that’s what the driver said was the cause But I wonder if the driver was speeding because many go 10 to 15 miles over the speed limit since the driver was going to work and I’ve been rushing but Only guessing. Who knows maybe the walker just stepped out without looking, but that’s usually not the case or perhaps the driver are going too quickly and sometimes they’re looking at their phone or distracted by eating, etc.
I am not sure why we would have gate attendants between midnight and six in the morning. Cost of goods are up everywhere so raising fees should not be a surprise, just look at your grocery and fuel bills. Greed is such an over used word, I laugh at it every time someone uses it.
Thanks for the news Skip! I live near and our security is changing also. I wonder if the same company? (Castle) BTW, turn off your CPU notifications when making the news, unless that's a hot line, lol.
It really does depend on what district your home is located, I live in Hammock at Fenney and in the northern section it is district 12 and those in the southern end below the mail station they are in district 13. I have seen many complaining why they have a 15% increase but their neighbors to the north only have a 8% increase.
My dog Jack is blind. He finds his way around his ever shrinking world by navigating around furniture and walls. When he was young, I taught him his body parts like, eyes, ears, nose, teeth, head, feet, tail and butt. If I intend to touch him, I say the area I’m going to touch, such as “Jackie’s head” etc and in so doing, I avoid startling him. People laughed at me when I taught him his body parts and my corresponding facial features. I’ll bet they wouldn’t laugh now. He would show me my facial features by touching his nose to my mouth, eyes, ears or nose. It’s very cute. I’m sad he can no longer see to do it, but I haven’t really asked him. If he doesn’t want to play the game, he just turns his head away. I’ll miss him terribly when he’s gone. He’s also diabetic, hence the blindness. I hope you find a home for this loving dog.
They cannot make the villages a secure, living facility if they do……. then the villages will be responsible for maintaining all of the roads in your circus…… right now the county is responsible for it ……Then you’ll be complaining when they raise it up even more to pay for the roads
It's pretty well known that if you push the red button at an unmanned gate, the gate arm opens. But a photo of your license plate is taken as you enter. The Villages is a community with gates. It is not a gated community.

so these car burglers are coming from outside the villages or do you have thieves inside breaking the law--.
