- Hiroshima is a city known world-wide for the tragic event that unfolded on August 6th, 1945. But I am here to tell you now, this city is so much more than that.
In today's video, we're spending the entire day exploring the beautiful city of Hiroshima. We dive into the history, as well as the things that make Hiroshima a can't-miss destination for anyone visiting Japan. If you are looking for a video highlighting the best things to do in Hiroshima then this video is for you!
We begin our day grabbing coffee at one of Hiroshima's best coffee spots before heading to the Hiroshima Memorial Museum. After learning & reflecting on the past, we shift our focus to the present with some amazing food in the most popular foodie area of Hiroshima, Okonomimura. After eating some delicious Hiroshima-style Okonomiyaki, we walk things off in the Shukkeien Garden before exploring the grounds of Hiroshima Castle. Finally, we end our day by cheering on the Hiroshima Toyo Carp at Mazda Zoom-Zoom Stadium. A Hiroshima Toyo Carp game is a MUST if you're visiting Hiroshima during the summer months!

Another nice video, although I just ate lunch, I was drooling like a St Bernard when watching y'all eat these oyster! The memorial museum was also awesome, we cannot forget how war can be so devastating, innocent people dying instantly, hoping this never happens again anywhere on our beautiful earth!
It was a very informative museum! We feel like it’s important to show the history of each place but also show the present with delicious food and activities. I am from Hiroshima, so I have some additional information.
Hiroshima is home to not only baseball, but also major football, basketball and volleyball teams, making it the city with the highest per capita attendance for professional sports in Japan.
The city's unique food culture is also very popular, and on weekends, many people come from far and wide to watch sports and sightsee.
Thank you so much for providing more insight!!! We'd have loved to have taken more sporting events while we were there. But I suppose it leaves us with more to experience next time we visit!! Thank you so much for watching our video!!:)
Woo, first comment! Haha. Great video! Baseball game is now on my Japan list. Seeing sporting events live in new places is such a unique experience. Highly recommend taking in a football/soccer game in Europe or England, so much fun! On a heavier note if you guys like documentaries White Light, Black Rain is a good but very heavy doc about the bombing with quite a few interviews with survivors. They share their stories of that day and talk about the aftermath, show their scars etc. Its one you won’t soon forget but def worth the watch. Keep the videos coming guys! Love your content

I love how the Hiroshima museum is named the peace museum. This shows that people have moved on, don't hate the Americans and spread peace. 🕊️

Japanese don't hate American,however, I traveled all over the world for three years but many countries don't like American. I met one guy in Viet-Nam and he was from Australia. First word he said was "nobody likes american. Every countries have right to do according to their point of view but America always interfere their politics. I agree (laughable)😛😛

We were definitely bummed we didn’t have more JPY to try some of the food! It was silly for us not to come prepared, but hopefully everyone who watches will be more prepared than us. I went to a baseball game in Osaka and watched the Hanshin Tigers. It was so much fun. I always recommend to sports fans travelling to Japan to check out a game. Its a fantastic experience.

Peace Memorial Park is a large park, but I believe it was a town before the atomic bomb. The population at the time was 450,000, so imagine an atomic bomb falling on what is now the center of Auckland. It's a war, so I can't complain about anything. However, in Japan at that time, healthy men were forced to join the army, so most of the people in the city were old people, women, children and handicapped people. I don't see why you would target those people. There is no story in Japanese anime where a hero of justice targets his family in order to bring his opponent to his knees. But it does exist in yakuza movies. Do Japanese and Americans have a different sense of justice? There are also rumors that the USA used Japanese people as guinea pigs to show the Soviet Union the power of the atomic bomb. It was in the distant past, so I have no hatred toward Americans, but I have mixed feelings about the significance of using the atomic bomb.
I understand your frustration on the US dropping atomic bombs dropped on Hiroshima & Nagasaki but if you know your history correctly they are the ones that started the war beginning in Peal Harbour. You seem to also not know that the Japanese during their occupation of China, Korea, Philippines,Indonesia (just to name a few) massacred between 6-10million people. Far more then the lives lost combined in both Hiroshima and Nagasaki. But yes it is sad that it had to come to this but we can only learn from history and move forward.

And given the time frame since the Japanese began invading countries like China in 1931, that gave the Japanese over a decade to take out their atrocities during the war. Lastly, you're right they did have some intelligence that something was coming. However it was still wrong whether they tried to justify it or not.
@@oscarsalomon1 I cannot say for sure that this is correct history. However, I feel that your perception is often wrong. Is that history learned in school textbooks in the USA? Now that we have RUclips, why not learn about history once again? But considering your mental health, it might be better to remain brainwashed. If you decide to re-learn, don't take it too seriously. It's all a story from the past.
But please think about one thing.
If aliens attacked Earth, stole all of the USA's resources, and demanded that we abandon Texas and Hawaii unconditionally, how would the USA respond? It is assumed that the alien has overwhelmingly stronger fighting power than the UAS. It is impossible for USA to fight aliens and win. What would the USA do in such a situation? Would you accept unconditional surrender? Or will you choose to fight someone you can never beat?
Japan patiently negotiated with the USA. However, the USA refused, demanding only unconditional surrender. Japan knew it couldn't beat the USA. Still, Japanese people wanted to protect their country, culture, and the lives of their families. The attack on Pearl Harbor was an attack made with such determination.
Would you hand over your country, culture, and family life to aliens without resisting?

However, Britain and the United States rejected Japan's proposal because it was not unanimous.

And I was so impressed when Hannah said “Arigato-Gozaimasu”. Her pronunciation was like a native speaker and I couldn’t catch any American accent.
You guys must have done a good research beforehand bc we say “Arogato-Gozaimasu” instead of “Doumo-Arigato” that many tourists say while we Japanese barely say. You seemed to know much about Japan’s customs.

If you come to Hiroshima, you should definitely come to Kure City as well. Kure is where the world's largest battleship, the Yamato, was built during World War II, and there is also the Yamato Museum.

I agree Hiroshima style okonomiyaki is better than Kansai style. I was there before Mazda Stadium, so it was great to get the tour. Also I attended Hiroshima Cathedral. Also the oysters are taken from the bay. Did you go nearby Miyajima?

It seems that many people who visited Hiroshima also visited Miyajima, which is a World Heritage Site, at the same time, but didn't you guys visit it?⛩ I hear that the island itself is worshipped as a god and is a very famous tourist attraction as one of the three most scenic spots in Japan.🦌 They say you can enjoy the heavenly view from the summit.
Hi! So we really wanted to visit, but unfortunately we just didn't have time. We arrived in Hiroshima at 9:30am after the 2 and a half hour train from Osaka & spent all day seeing all of these things in Hiroshima before getting back on the train at 9:25pm. We want to get back at some point to visit Miyajima because it's certainly near the top of the list of places we wish we'd gotten to visit. Maybe a bit down the road we'll get back there! What is the radiation level at atom bomb dropping point and the surrounding areas? Looking at the greenery ( green grass, trees with green leaves ) and people roaming near the place it seems to me that the raditation level from the fall out has come to normal within 78 years or earlier which is very surprising given the time needed for a place to become radiation free after a n atomic bomb explosion.

Nice video. WWII was brutal really and it ended brutally also. I think the way Japan changed in the wake of the atomic bombings is quite remarkable. Pacifism replaced the will to conquer and create empire. Horrible what the two cities went through such pain and trauma. The park was nice. I was impressed by how low the entry fees are to museums and the like, so I mentioned this to my wife, who lived in Japan for a year and a half back in the eighties. She told me that there is a law in Japan regarding access to culturally important public places. The law mandates that access should be affordable. I know you guys are on a budget, but I wonder if you are going to try Kobe or wagyu beef at some point? The wagyu ribeye steaks I have experienced are on a higher plane. We were shocked at the prices for museums and gardens as well! They are all so well done and maintained it’s quite impressive. We unfortunately didn’t make it to Kobe. We ran out of time with our rail pass. There are lots of restaurants in Osaka that offered wagyu and Kobe beef but we thought it would be fun to save it for our next trip to Japan. Although most foreigners only visit Tokyo, Osaka and Kyoto, many are returning to Hiroshima. You need to stay 1-2 nights here as there are two World Heritage Sites, Peace Park and Miyajima.
After the Russian invasion, humanity needs to have time to think about peace in the Atomic Bomb Dome and the museum. The museum used to be free, it used to be a place for peace studies for children in Japan. Ukraine can be rebuilt like the city of Hiroshima with time. Please visit the museum.
Wagyu beef: Kobe beef is well-known to foreign visitors, but there are many other Wagyu beef-producing regions in Japan that are even more famous. Kurobe Wagyu beef, which ranks A4 or A5 in terms of cattle produced in Japan, is the real Wagyu beef. You don't have to go to Kobe to eat A5-ranked Wagyu anywhere in the city, the prices vary a little, but all beef is good.

Are you supposed to tip at Okonomiyaki Ron?
So we didn't, & the reason we didn't was because we'd read prior to arriving in Japan that tipping isn't really a thing (at least not to the level that it is in the US). We had read that a lot of times tipping in Japan gets rejected & could also be seen as offensive in some situations, so we figured it was best to just avoid it all together. @@ProbablyLost There is no need to tip in Japan for restaurants, cabs, etc. Even facilities in high-class hotels do not receive any, as all prices include a service charge.
In the past, it was customary to give a gratuity (like a tip) to the staff in charge of your room at Ryokan (Japanese inns), but this is almost unheard of nowadays.
