In your mind you have capacities you know
To telepath messages through the vast unknown
Please close your eyes and concentrate
With every thought you think
Upon the recitation we're about to sing
Calling occupants of interplanetary craft
Calling occupants of interplanetary most extraordinary craft
Calling occupants of interplanetary craft
Calling occupants of interplanetary craft
Calling occupants of interplanetary most extraordinary craft
You've been observing our earth
And we'd like to make a contact with you
We are your friends
Calling occupants of interplanetary craft
Calling occupants of interplanetary ultra-emissaries
We've been observing your earth
And one night we'll make a contact with you
We are your friends
Calling occupants of interplanetary quite extraordinary craft
And please come in peace, we beseech you
Only a landing will teach them
Our earth may never survive
So do come, we beg you
Please interstellar policeman
Oh, won't you give us a sign
Give us a sign that we've reached you
With your mind you have ability to form
And transmit thought and energy far beyond the norm
You close your eyes, you concentrate
Together that's the way
To send the message
We declare world contact day
Calling occupants of interplanetary craft
Calling occupants of interplanetary craft
Calling occupants of interplanetary most extraordinary craft
Calling occupants
Calling occupants
Calling occupants of interplanetary anti-adversary craft

I play in a rock band, and my buddies may think I'm odd for liking this song, but if a song gives you goosebumps, your body is telling you it's a great song. What a voice.
I'm a hard rocker. Led Zeppelin and Van Halen to name a few but the Carpenters talent and Karen's voice cannot be denied. Their songs just kinda grab you and pull you in.

Yeah I'm bit the same. I love Hard rock too but not a Carpenters fan. But I love this . Little weird to my friends too.
Interesting...you are unbreakable....powerful....please..play this song in your band.....POWERFUL
I'm a hard-core rocker.. member of a bad ass biker gang and a Black belt in Kung Foo and I like the Carpenters...
Her voice is like the smoothest, creamy vanilla pudding you've ever tasted!
She would sing real quiet all the time, almost imperceptibly so, wherever she was and they would increase the volume for recording
Tragic to die so young from complications of an eating disorder but didn't she light up the world while she was here? God bless Karen C.
its not tragic, its dumb
@@aliali-ce3yf Based on the reason for her death. I agree.
It is so tragic and so unnecessary. She was tiny to begin with. Then other outside influences tried to tell her she was overweight and needed to be skinnier. She was beautiful to begin with.
Simply the most beautiful female voice ever.
Of corsé, THE most beautiful female voice ever. I miss her forever. ❤❤ 😢😢
Superb voice!
Right..and man, can she play them drums!
You are correct
Big call.
Last Christmas, my father made me discover this incredible masterpiece. He passed away 4 days ago & this is the last song we heard together. Maybe he's up there right now, calling occupants of interplanetary craft. Love you papa, thank you for everything
Bless you!
I lost both my parents about a year apart two years ago. You are probably finding it's weird as much as it is sad. Just here to give you sympathy for the weird side of things.
Hugs and comfort to You 🙏🕊️💗
God bless you and your family. 💙

FYI - "Calling Occupants of Interplanetary Craft" is a power ballad by Canadian rock band Klaatu, originally released in 1976 on their first album 3:47 EST. The song opened night transmission of the pirate radio station Radio Caroline. The year following its release, American soft rock duo the Carpenters covered the song, using a crew of 160[4] musicians. The Carpenters' version reached the top 10 in the UK and Canada, and charted at number 1 in Ireland.
I'm an OG Klaatu fan, from back when they were rumored to be The Beatles.
I had no idea, I thought Richard wrote this tune for some reason. I just listened to the original version, I like it and the Carpenter's version is starting to grow on me. A lot of people bust on this song, but it's really kind of a tour de force for Richard. The arrangement and instrumentation is great. I think I heard Karen say that Richard spent more time on this song than any other song.
@@davidsheriff9274 You're right. I heard Karen say in a interview that they spent more time on this song then they did on some albums. They also spent a lot of money producing it.
@@dbo8336 That's cool hadn't heard that before. I still have all my original Klaatu vinyl.
Loved the carpenters since “close to you”
bought a cd at yard sale few weeks ago. And hearing this for the first time.
I’m a teenager and I love this song!!
You have must excellent taste!!
I've been listening to it since it came out and it's once if my top 5 I play now.
The 70's were remarkable whether it be cartoons, TV shows and or music. Best decade ever !!
The food was better back then Sports too
I have to TOTALLY agree with you - it truly was the best decade EVER!!
My playlist is grinding from the weight of my 70's music alone!! 🤣🤣🤣
Movies were better . Especially westerns and crime drama.
In a 1978 radio interview Karen said after they recorded this song she and Richard figured out they spent more time putting together this one song than they spent on some of their albums. It was time well spent. It is a fantastic and well crafted song.
I think that's why they were so successful. They were complete perfectionists when it came to laying down all the layers. Just my humble opinion. Our world is better because of their gifts.
They didn't write the song, a Canadian band from Toronto called Klaatu wrote it. What the Carpenters did was take an already good song and drape it with sumptuous orchestral and horn arrangements and add Karen's heavenly vocals - and the spectacular result is what you see and hear in the video.
@@stevestruthers6180 I know. It was written by John Woloschuk and Terry Draper. The Nations Favourite Carpenter songs has the story behind the song starting at 46:18 if your interrested. It on YT.
@@paulcampbell7307 you're talking out of your arse.
@@stevestruthers6180 Yes sir, no disrespect to Klaatu but I like the Carpenters version better.
What I love about Karen Carpenter singing this is that she just sounds so sincere. It's both very odd and very, very wonderful. It almost comes off like a Supertramp song, which is definitely a compliment as far as I'm concerned.
I don't sound as good as Karen did but when I sing along with this song I am very sincere. They are out there and listening. They will eventually contact us when we won't panic and we can get along with one another. It's eventually going to be that way one day. I just hope it's soon.

Haven't heard this song for at least 30-35 years, Karen's voice is so original, so truly beautiful
I use this after 30 odd years to explain to people how we (30-35 yrs :)) had artists who break out their boundaries....
Richard Carpenter studied and played the piano when he was 12, and he was the older son of Agnes and Harold Carpenter, and the older brother of Karen
VOICE OF AN ANGEL................
I've heard it dozens of times in my Best of Carpenters compilations, first on cassette and later on cd. Not one of my top favourites but a very good song just the same.
Apart from her amazing beautiful voice , I'm always struck how extremely pretty she was and here she looks very healthy , great it's before she got so thin, wasn't a fan of the Carpenters that much in the 70' s at, I was in High school but I totally admire the talent of both Richard and Karen,
A better world back then , better people. Beautiful Karen ❤

Written and recorded by a band called Klaatu. Richard Carpenter was a fan of the band and asked if they can cover this. They did just as beautiful job on this song as Klaatu did.
Absolutely correct ...Klattus’ original was more “earthy” while Richard and Karens’ scoring and performance was more “ethereal”...love em’ both!!

I watched that video just now, as well. Not the first time I've heard the song, i heard about the original Klaatu version a couple of years ago. This is a great version of the song and Karen Carpenters voice suits it well.

Have you heard Andromeda by Weyes Blood? They are saying either she is karen carpenter reincarnated, or she is channeling her.
😳. Wow! I must take a look at that!! This song resounds in my head constantly, my dad was a massive fan…I grew up with constantly hearing it play in my dads car!! Might be a sign from him as I originate from andromeda. How weird 💗🙏
I remember when I heard this song in the '70s and contemplated the possiblity of "Interplanetary Craft" and of late I have seen saucers, triangles and brilliant white floating orbs. Now the song takes on a fuller meaning to me. Thanks to The Carpenters for recording this.

Absolutely, I've said it before about KC, her voice is like warm honey being poured from a golden jug by an angel, whilst travelling across a cloud of condensed love. in a carriage made of pure quartz crystal. @@czaaful Bigfoot told you to say that!
I believe you are referring to what is called ENUNCIATION, not pronunciation. Pronunciation is related to the word itself, focusing on which syllables should be emphasized and how certain letters (or combinations of letters) should sound when spoken. Enunciation refers to how clearly and distinctly a particular individual forms the sounds that make up a word. So she would have no problem with PROnunciation, because American English was her native language anyway.
To me, Karen Carpenter is up there with Jimi Hendrix and Kurt Cobain in terms of most tragic deaths in music. I can’t even imagine how much incredible art could’ve been made had she lived, but more importantly, I can’t hardly imagine the pain she was in at the end without tearing up.
I'm grateful for the contributions they made while they were here and not begging these incredibly accomplished people for more.

The Carpenters are definitely not my thing, but this is just amazing, it asks nothing from Space Oddity, it's beautiful, haunting, complex, I'm in complete awe
Perhaps the most perfect female voice ever...she deserved a better life. RIP - Karen.
She was beautiful with the voice of an angel.
Her voice is molten chocolate on a freezing day.
U nailed that...
Yes, it’s very cold now.
Freezing chocolate on a molten and unnecessary breath
I grew up with this ass a kid and I could never get her voice out of my head. This song was so ahead of it's time. Her voice is so smooth. Barbra Streisand is said to have the smoothest voice. No way Karen did 100 percent. I am listening in 2020 and her voice brings tears still to this 50 year old man.
You "grew up with this ass"? Funny thing, so did all of us.
Wonderful song. Maybe we should try to do what she did. They are out there, watching, waiting for us to grow up enough to come join them in space. We will get there one day, hopefully soon. I would love to meet them, our extraterrestrial brothers and sisters.
Karen Carpenter waaaaay out classes Barbara Streisand!
I really love this song. "We are observing your earth, Baby!"
I always loved this song. Karen had such a beautiful voice.
She did!
If NASA ever does a sort of follow-up to their Voyager Golden Record, this absolutely needs to be one of the tracks they send out there if we don't just beam it into space our damn selves. If we could gift any sort of life out there something, this should be high on the list (along with Klaatu's original) because who wouldn't get intense feels from this?
A newly-built, superficial AI robot may not get the full scope of this song???
What Alien Or Substance Will Against This Welcoming To Our Planet Especially The Carpenters
This is EXACTLY what I was thinking! I can't think of a better proposal for peace and friendship with extraterrestrial life than this! (We'd have to cut the opening radio station scene and the alien voices from the song but still)
In our media, it's already been beamed, @ C speed.
This and major Tom by col. Chris Hadfield.
Even the Aliens loved her .
No one did it better than her . Ever !!!
Brian R ~ Yeah,
Check out the amazing video footage called =
“Eddie Bravo Smashes Neil deGrasse & steve-o with Science and Logic”
By Conspiracy Box
YOU WON’T BE DISAPPOINTED !
Enjoy. . .
Even David Bowie tried to Love The Alien, but the Carpenters succeeded.
John Wholoschuck did it better.
no he did not
Klaatu did it better, but they wrote. This is just a cover. Not bad, but not Klaatu. 😷
I remember this song when I was young definitely has come back for a reason as I recall it was a Guidepoint throughout my life, a.k.a. the dots that you need to join together. It all makes sense. Our individual lives are definitely planned, and our soul knows where it’s going, and what we need to go through to reach where we will be shortly.
I don't know why this song is so beautiful, I love it so much
Came here after TitS covered the album.
I can whole heartedly agree best song of theirs and honestly this brought a tear to my eye first time hearing and goosebumps on every listen.
The original is great, but Karens voice compliments this song on another level
Todd In The Shadows? Anything to do with Trotters Independent Traders?
Whose tits covered the album?
@@SavoxYT Todd in the Shadows. He has a series called TrainWreckords where he looks at bands/artists that were giant but then for one reason or another had a colossal failure of an album that killed their time in the spotlight. He had one on The Carpenters. He actually spoke mostly positively about the album, though highlighting some flaws, but made special mention of this song being fantastic and very underrated.
Karen Carpenter singing about aliens? God, I love the seventies...
Allen Albright you wish
@Allen Albright Wasn't almost everyone in the 1970s? 😂😂😂
The song was a hit, just after the movie "Close Encounters of the Third Kind" was released.
it’s a cover of klatuu. the voice in this version is better but the instrumentation in the other version is better
It is a cover. Original was by Klaatu about a year before the Carpenters` version.
This video is a real piece of art, what a beautiful lady Karen Carpenter was
One of the most beautiful voices i never heard before... how sad she isn't with us .. 😥
I had forgotten about this song. Anything Karen Carpenter does is awesome. What a voice. Miss you Karen.
i cried when Karen died, the Carpenters are extraordinary there is life out there in space and she will contact them one day so beautiful.
👽 intervention now please🙏
@@DNAleguillou amen
I was introduced to the Carpenters years ago in my early years. The Sound of her vocals still give me goosebumps!!! I remember watching 'The Karen Carpenter Story' years later and getting back into their music for ages. I sat with my wee tape recorder ready beside the TV until my Uncle's wife made a load of tapes for me from his LPs. I still have them!!
Such a bizarre song but I love her voice in this ❤
@@vandalayindustries3057 Richard got songs from the weirdest sources. But Karen could sing the ingredients to bleach and make it sound wonderful.
Indeed, they went out on a limb with this song but it worked.
The original is even better.
She died young but left a mark with her wonderful voice. That is sufficient for a life.
The voice of Karen Carpenter, what a beautiful first contact that would be.
She knew more than we thought bless her heart ❤️ 😊
G-ddamn Karen Carpenter's voice was truly out of this world.
sad but true
CARPENTERS: ANOINTED & ORDAINED by God to impact USA during Dark Turmoil of division > They Shot Up like a METEOR by God's Hand (15 Mega Hits & 20+M Sales in just 1st 4 yrs.) a 'Consecutive Hits' Record still today 2021 > now 150+M Sales incl. '1M' Solo album by Karen (1980) released '1996'.
Do you have to use the Lord's name in vain? I strongly feel that Karen would disapprove. We are all sinners. 😎
No one will believe it now, but Richard was wearing the height of fashion for men at this stage of the '70's -
the safari suit.
Rip Karen, a voice so sublime it could've come from an angel.
As I recall, the liner notes on the inner sleeve for the LP stated this song was the official world contact day anthem.
I love the way the album cover is flashed in the background really briefly
Loving the Carpenter's since the early 70's when I was a little girl. 56 years old, January 12, 2021, and I still love them. RIP Karen
I remember in the 70’s my sisters and brother were teaching a very tiny me to sing this. I will forever love them for this. We love you, Karen.
💫🕯🕊❤️
It's Cool that they made this video & song in the 1970's. This song & video is ahead of it's time. I think it's cool that they used a green screen back then which was not common in the 1970's. So if you think about it people in the 1970's probably thought this was the coolest video ever ... LOL 😄
A most amazing song from one of the greatest female voices EVER!!!
It's so upsetting that she was probably the best ever.
I cry every time I hear her sing.
So do i
There's a reason for that, her voice is one of the purest resonances I have ever heard. Her mastery of its delivery, renders it a carrier wave of pure emotion. That's why at the heart of higher consciousness raising processes in every religion going back 1000s and 1000s of years, sound resonance, and particularly the voice has been a major component. Can you imagine being a child and being sung a lullaby by THAT voice!!
Todd was right. This is really strange. And I kinda dig it.

@@Karmy. We'd like to make a contact with you... baby. That shit is hilarious. How did this not end up in the episode.
@@DeadMech1 ikr
Who the hell is todd
@@adrianbanhao7977 They're referring to Todd In The Shadows, a RUclips channel that makes music-related content. He did an episode of his " Trainwreckords" series about the Carpenters album Passage which features this as the closing track. Its definitely not at all the worst album ever and is probably the most respectful episode of the series. He said that he actually really liked this song in the video and that's why many people were brought here. And yeah I agree its actually a strange but amazing cover of Klaatu's song.
With all the sightings across the world of UFOs now, this song is very apt. Timeless song, and full of meaning, R.I.P Karen Carpenter.
I was sent this video as a joke.... But I ended up loving it.
This song is proof that Karen Carpenter could read the phone book and conjure up emotions that move the listener
alpineinc1 Of this there is no doubt.
alpineinc1 I absolutely agree!!! Well put!!!
alpineinc1 LOLOLOL Not bad for a cover version of a then obscure song by an even more obscure band (Canada's Klaatu).
alpineinc1 Indeed, because WOW!
Highly evolved indeed!
