It's like The Beatles merged with Yes, and what is not to love in that concept!
I’m a new wave fanatic (and all psychedelia) and I’ve just heard this for the first time - ARGH! I LOVE THIS - also with a giant dash of Brian Eno and a pinch of Pink Floyd
I remember reading the members were secret for a while.
Hahah I just found them right now and that was my FIRST thought :)
My two favourite bands!
This indeed has the whole Beatles "Sgt. Peppers" side 2 vibe going on.
It's funny that I've always liked this song, but only remember ever knowing "The Carpenters" version. And, it really was way beyond the norm for Karen & Richard Carpenter to take such a massive leap from their regular Muzak style.
Klaatu-one of the most underrated bands around
They really are incredible
@@The_Mimewar no doubt about it
Never heard of them
Yeah
Because YOU "never heard of them," that means this song is "underrated"? There is something about your generation that a former... like me can't stand.
I was first exposed to this song in 2017 by Mindhunter (one of the best shows to ever exist which demands a new season STAT), but ever since that day this has become one of my favorites.
@Suz We gotta find a way to get Netflix to do Mind Hunter season 3, I've never been this pissed about a show being on hold lol it's a miscarriage of justice
@@Investigamer I couldn't agree with you more! It's hands down, the best written and best acted show that's come out in years. We need to start a movement....haha
@@aamantium1 Yeah as the hope becomes more and more bleak it just pisses me off to no end. I've had good shows canceled by Netflix before (Santa Clarita Diet) but with Mindhunter they had dragged the "maybe" out so long, Fincher seemed to barely want to fight for us, and now they come out and act like the cancellation was bound to happen all along saying "well the show was expensive, didn't have enough of a following, yadda yadda" despite the show constantly being in the Netflix trending section to this very day. Netflix can't afford to lose good shows like this given the fact that HBO is killing it with their exclusives right now. Idk how they can let this stand when true crime is as popular as it's ever been
Yeah, I don't get it. Everyone loved the Dahmer movie and that was done very similar to Mind Hunter. It seems they could have ridden that wave a little bit and committed to another season, or even 6 more episodes at minimum. Part of me thinks that they want people to itch for a return, just to announce a movie (which I think is a piss poor idea).
One of the best unknown groups of the 70s
No seventies progressive rock band deserves more attention and tribute than Klaatu. Excellent act that carried me through the 70's and 80's like no other.
Huge hit when I was in high school.
I swear to God, the "We are your friends" part makes me tear up.
but are they?
Do not run, we are your friends.. ack! ack!
This song. I can listen, but if I sing along, I tear and choke up. Somehow it’s too…happy? Too emotional in the moment of contact. I’m a dork, I know, but I’m moved.
This feels
Like a spiritual cousin to Twilight by ELO
True or not,, either way it makes me cry...
I remember being on vacation with my relatives in Illinois, when we heard about this album... the buzz was that The Beatles were back! Alas, no, but it remains one of my favorites from that era still! Rock on friends ❤
We heard part of this song in a Netflix documentary called Encounters” and my husband somehow found this song here on RUclips. This is very cool. Love how the video shows the Aztec or Myan temples as a beacon to contact interplanetary visitors. ❤
Forget cowbell. We need more Mellotron.
I was first exposed to this song by the Carpenters. Then I heard the original version and I was blown away. I actually suspected that I wasn't the Beatles but a Canadian band (because back in the day we wanted to out-British the British music-wise at the time).
Klaatu well remain stuck in my mind for a long time to come. Thanks for the clip.
Klaatu deserves much more credit for their amazing tunes. They are so unique.
its just the Beatles
I was Editor of my Jr High School newspaper when this was released, and the rumors were rampant that the Klaatu was the "Beatles" in disguise. There is def that "vibe".
Cool ass tune regardless.
Got this album when it came out.Totally changed my world view and is so relevant today.Im 57 and it never gets old.😄
I got it then too and I am 74
I'm 59. Recall, before social media, when the rumor was this band was actually the Beatles under a pseudonym? Recall when The Carpenters turned it into a number one hit? I prefer this version all the way, and proud this is a Canadian band.
im 20 and i just found this song
I'm 57 also (born Thanksgiving day 1965.... Lol) I so loved Klaatu when I was a kid... forgot about them ... But came across a synthpop version of the song and all the memories came back and I had to find them on RUclips! Big in to sci-fi and computers... and they had a big hand in pushing me that direction. 😊
@@dougskriver6216 I could swear one of the singers does sound like John Lennon. It was not unusual for the Lads to sing backup for other singers and groups. Paul McCartney sang on Donovan's song "Mellow Yellow"... (quite rightly! 😊)
Something about this song and video always puts me at peace. Klaatu is an absolutely brilliant band with a unique and beautiful sound.
If the Carpenters cover your song, you know you made it! Very under-rated band!
I read your comment and rushed to spoty to hear it haha thanks its a good version but I prefer this one
Karen Carpenter was a great singer, but their easy-listening version felt silly (see link below). This version makes sense and it's fun, rather like a Pink Floyd or David Bowie song. ruclips.net/video/4sxXeLhLlLI/видео.html
how do you "make it" yet remain "under-rated"? stupid and banal comment, "Geoff".
Both versions are AMAZING !
I only heard the Carpenters version which I'm used to. But I think if they had Brian May from Queen play on it that song would have sounded better. Then again Freddie Mercury could have sung this too and Queen would have killed this song!
All time classic,, can't help but love it,,,, Carpenter's version is great too,but you can't beat the original..
this
Thanks commenter I see how it's all linked so what's the point in playing this stupid game?
1:51 is one of the greatest moments in music ever. I can see why people thought the Beatles were back when hearing this.
They kept these "bursts of energy" (as I like to call them) in other albums too. There certainly was one in "Maybe I'll move to Mars" during the middle section, also maybe once in "Hope" album. Another interesting thing is that ELO also did this in their "Turn to stone" and even Paul McCartney in "Live and let die"
If you told me McCartney wrote this section I would believe you.
Agreed
I'm very glad Mindunter introduced me to this song, so sad it got cancelled
Just hooked up a set of Bose speakers and for some strange reason this was the first song that came to mind. I looked to my left and my blue tip siamese was swaying back and forth and smiling. When it stopped she tapped me and knodded toward the computer. Huh

😮
It is a classic from an era when prog rock had incredible artistry - in the studio and on the road.
My God, it's full of stars!
This song has so much energy in it. All systems go...
Just bought the vinyl album at a thrift store for $0.99. Great condition.
late seventies: rumours came up that the band klaatu is a secret reunion of the beatles
Love it . . .
Lovely piece of music Elmar Theurer
Unreal! havent heard that for decades thanks Elmar Theurer
unfortunately, it is untrue. People thought this because they sound like the Beatles and also because a lot of people believed that Paul McCartney had actually died. Turns out they were just guys from Canada and that ruined their career. Not because of their great music but because people decided not to defend them because they wanted them to actually be the Beatles... aint that a Bitch...
Yes the rumor that Klaatu were the Beatles made me buy their first album. I knew immediately they weren’t but I loved this album and their follow-up album HOPE. Klaatu released 4 studio albums: 3:47 EST, Hope, Sir Army Suit, and Endangered Species, plus a greatest hits album called Magentalane which included a song called December Dream dedicated in memory of John Lennon. If you haven’t heard much of their music you really need to listen to their first two albums in full. Pretty damn good and very very creative.
This is so unbelievably beautiful
Wunderbar, For the ones who appreciate it... Klaatu forever!!! 🤟 🤘
yesmyfriends.
Mindhunter
That opening part was exactly what I picture in my mind when I hear the intro of this song
Слава Богу, что хоть кто-то пишет и исполняет настоящие песни!!! Творческих, Вам, успехов!
Slava Ukraini! Stop Russian fascism.
Батенька, вы в заморозке были с 1971 года?)
Hello, do you come in peace? 😅🤣😛
my dad goes to canada and records music with klaatu one of my favorite bands as i grew up hearing them all the time
Crazy. I'm 46 and I thought this was Wings or late Beatles..... I never heard of this band before. Good stuff.
I just heard The Carpenters version of this which was popular when I was growing up. Actually listening to the lyrics I realised this song is actually pretty deep and meaningful despite its simplicity and the novelty element of The Carpenters version. I had no idea it was a cover of Klaatu (Great name for a band.. And explains the interstellar policemen reference too!)
As a CE-5er, we make contact with our Galactic Family just like this song describes!
As Dr. Greer says to us, "What is faster than the speed of light? - - - Thought!
We communicate with our "Family" via Thought! Their technology is "Though-Based".
This wonderful band had it right all along!! Viva La Disclosure & World Contact Day!
Interesting. Want to know about it more
this has be weirdest message we've ever received from aliens period
It’s actually a message from earth to other life forms
SURE IT IS.
Slightly misunderstood I think 😂😂😂

simple pleasures, i love it.
Very good song . You love Beatles, you love this tune.
I'm not aboard the Beatles connection.
Sounds more like supertramp than the Beatles 😂
@@deanosaur808 gives me more yes vibes, personally

One of my all time fav's! Loved this group! So nice to see I am not the only one! :)
Canada's greatest band. Brilliant track
Three Six Nine back when Canadians had a Liverpudlian accent :p
Don’t tell my husband, the Rush fan, that.
Wow... was born in 12-12-1979 and remember sitting outside listening to this song off my dads vinyl record over and over again...i must have been like 5 it was before and around kindergarten...but i would sit outside in the woods and try to contact...whoever...occupants...lol and i thought i could control the wind and sunshine and stuff...my middle name is Sunshine also!...so im sure u can imagine how taken i was with the album cover art.i had to share this when i came upon this song again!
anyone here from mindhunters?
I'd never heard this version before, I'd always thought The Carpenters was an original song
Yup. Best scene on the show
And money comes raining
thank you! I was wondering where did I listen to this song hahaha!
Who would've thought that, 3 almost simultaneously smiling people in an elevator, would be so enjoyable to watch..
The first time I heard the chorus kick in it gave me chills, this might be the most beautiful song ever made.
First time I have to heard this version...excellent
so glad these guys made Hope, one of the best prog rock albums of all time
I'VE GOT A LOT OF LESSOR KNOWN GROUPS ON MY PLAYLIST
Calling Occupants and December Dream are my all time fav of Kllatu :)
Listened to this on our old radio on the am hits station of the 70s- sang along with the radio ❤#sisterlove
Thanks for posting never heard this version I’m 59 years old
Glad to have know "Dee Long" Klaatu vocals guitar through my brother Frank Watt another musician all underated Canadians (Scarboro boys) Dee worked with producer George Martin Beatle Fame at Apple records London another bit of trivia. Mc Cartney heard of the Klaatu Beatle sound through Mr Martin and had to drop by and chat with Dee. Now that is a bit of Klaatu Dee Long Trivia
Never heard of this band or this song - but I really like it!
Got "Two Classic Albums from KLAATU", on the Collector's Choice Music label.
WOW! A must-get for KLAATU Fans!
We all thought the Beatles had re- grouped in 1977 when Klatuu came out
Yes, the Beatles have been linked to Badfinger, among others. But my mind strains to recall a Beatlesque link, this one to Klaatu. Aside from that, this song is so Beatles. I often have wondered about it. At any rate, COIC is good enough to almost be perfect.
Cosmic Dawn movie brought me here for this awesome song, but I know I've heard this song before.
Happy Canada Day - anyone with telepathic contact with the aliens should let them know Earth could use a little help right now.
We can all do it. Just concentrate😉
My fave song .
Absolutely amazing!
this song makes me feel like i am traveling through space finding someone.
Thank you for such a great and needed song. Then and even more so now.
Not sure if you are aware of this or not. However, did you know that your song is the "semi-official" song of CE5 groups globally?
I thought I knew all the important bands of the 70's and yet, just found out about you today from my CE5 welcome to the group intro video.
2023 just may be when y'alls inspirations are revitalized, as your words guide the New Awakening. 🙏
The First Time I Played This, Was With My Deceased First Wife, She Looked At Me With The Strangest Look Of Peace On Her Face....My Mom Thought It Was The Beatles...This Song And Sir Ruttlesby......
Shades of the late, great David Bowie, "Major Tom" !
When listening to Klaatu you can imagine so many artists in their tracks. I hear Supertramp styles songwriting melodies harmonies.
Wow... Great song and arrangement indeed. Got to this page by searching YT for the band's name. It was mentioned (misspelled) in the Carpenters' interpretation page. The latter is a little more technical, I felt, with some reverb effects which were good. I have only known the Carpenters' version over the years and it's one of my favs.
But, yes, the Carpenters really covered this. It is said that covering is the best praise you can have. Glad to learn of Klaatu (yeah, I'm an interstellar visitor... I'm actually an astronomer, so there's some relation there...). Thanks for posting!
Still loving this band
timeless music :)) !
They were ahead of their time.
Not really! This sounds like 1976!
I just discovered this song and then played it 100 times in a row! Amazing!
ToddintheShadows brought me here. Expect a lot more views in the next few days.
Origineel, verrassend, innovatief en muzikaal superieur. Kan zich meten met alles in de toptien van de top 2000.
yea we lived it in real-time, love the way mindhunters brought up and under.
I was the only one I knew who had this album
James Bryant Well, now there are two of us, apparently Klaatu's entire fanbase is here. When I play this album for people, they cannot believe they've never heard it before and they all love the music.
Me too, and now I know you. Hi!
Got it today, so "welcome aboard" for me? ☄️☄️☄️
I guess I'm jumping on the bandwagon here-- I have it, too!
I first heard klaatus in mid 70s a Friend of mines older brother was a roadie for Queen. The guy had a huge record collection Klaatu and Black Sabbath were our favourites
3:05 That’s why I’m easy. I’m easy like Sunday morning.
Yeah, a year or so later...

In 1976 a rumor started circulating in the United States that the Beatles had recorded and released a new album under the pseudonym of "Klaatu" and sales of that record shot way up. What were the clues that made people think that THIS album was the Beatles?
1. The record was on Capitol records, the American record company that had released most of the Beatles' records in the US.
2. The record had no names of band members listed on it anywhere.
3. The record had no producer name on it anywhere. It simply said, "Produced by Klaatu."
4. The record had no songwriter credits other than simply, "All selections composed by Klaatu."
5. The cover of Ringo Starr's then-current album "Goodbye Vienna" had Ringo standing next to KLAATU, a character from the movie, "The Day the Earth Stood still".
6. At some Wings concerts, Paul would close by saying "See you when the earth stands still".
Could have been an early trial of an iamaphoney type of hoodwink ..those clues seem pretty deliberate and I'd bet dollars against donuts the Canadian version of tavistock was involved
lol tavistoque ..only you canucks will get that one
If you think this is the Beatles, you are actually deaf and you should see a doctor. They knew damn well this wasn't the Beatles, whatever news company said that was making it up so they could get attention, Klaatu is an amazing band, and it doesn't deserve to be merely compared. It deserves its own praise, it's amazing music that can make anyone happy in the darkest times, I mean, just listen to "we're off" and you'll get what I mean. These guys are musical geniuses as much as the Beatles, and while I'm not saying that they're better they appeal to me way more.
Amazing!
Dobře se poslouchá tato hudba, velký dík ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Righteous! I always get these images when I'd hear the song. So glad to finally see it made!
WOW does this ever bring back some memories!
I'm here remembering the great music Due South played.
I remember them well.Heard the rumors and being a big beatles fan I bought the first record and enjoyed it but they definately werent the beatles.A friend and I bought tickets for their show at madison square garden in N.Y. but a week or so before the concert it was announced that the concert was cancelled due to lack of ticket sales. With sadness I went out and bought their second album and played it many times.
I remember this song..thanks to my neighbour visit we/him remembered this Song ❤️❤️❤️👍👍👍Thank You For The Upload
Hey, let's get all these albums, INCLUDING "Hope" with the London Symphony, released on CD and possibly other media! What're ya waiting for? We certainly don't want this music lost to posterity!
I think they already did, several years before your message!
Thanks for posting, much appreciated.
I'm old enough to remember when this song first came out and the musical conspiracists spread stories about it being the Beatles "in hiding".
Fabulous song by a very underrated and under appreciated band.
I read about the rumours and didn't really think they made sense. But after listening to it for the first time in several decades I can totally see it.
This has very much of a Jeff Lynne feel to it. If somebody told me this was the flip side of "Free as a Bird" I could easily believe it.
Why the early edit? The mono-to-stereo chorus was one of the most mind-blowing production tricks of its day.
1977 was a damn fine year.
I was 12. I love this.
1976 😉
What an amazing band and a set of great music!
This is the best shortened edit of the song yet.
speechless - this is more than a song
Beautiful, Dreamy , Real music . I LOVE this original AND the Carpenter cover also
They have come out with remastered versions of their albums. The sound is incredible. And a few different versions of some of their favorites.
What a beautiful video for this music... prog rock at its best.
One of the hardest drops imaginable
"We are your friends" Yeah, right. ;-)
Actually, this is just one example of the excellent music that came out of the '70s.

🌉🌉🌉Beautiful song I have ever heard bless this earth with peace, love, and harmony Amen🌉🌉🌉
This is the best version of this song.
The Carpenters version of this was corny compared to this original, they added choirs and dubbed lots of fluff, so that it sounded more like an advertisement for 'Close Encounters of the Third Kind' which was popular at the time. Klaatu is Canadian, went to see them in Ottawa in 1981, it was sensational, they do sound a bit like the Beatles during their Magical Mystery phase, especially with the fantasy nature of the lyrics and sound effects.
+ pay close attention to the visual details Lt. C. playing as many out of sinc duplicate channels as you may comprehend for the full audio echo decoding give the right time delay
Agreed. Much as I love The Carpenters, I've never liked their version that much.
Let me take a wild guess and surmise they are from Toronto
Corny huh? Klaatu members koved the Carpenter's version of this song.
The weird thing was that on a Carpenters tribute album somebody covered this song so it was a cover of a cover.
The piano work here reminds me of some Chicago tracks.
Always thought this was the Beatles, well I was 7 years old when it came out!
I realized the cover of hope has the sun of 3:47 am on it but it is dead. R.I.P. Klaatu sun
