Karen Carpenter was, undoubtedly, one of the main muses of my adolescence... I ever loved her way to sing, her voice, her figure in general. Nowadays I' m 66 and still feel emotion hearing her voice...
@@scented-leafpelargonium3366 I would be a bit circumspect about that. Her figure was fine, and healthy, until about 1974/5. If there was such an issue with her mother it would have triggered her Anorexia much earlier. I suspect it was really driven by deep anxiety about her appearance and some of the horrible comments about her looks coming from the music press that really triggered the Anorexia, coupled with the pressures of maintaining the huge early success. Now it may be that Agnes was very poor at helping her daughter out of the psychological depths of the affliction - but ultimately the afflicted individual has to acknowledge they have a problem - and Karen never did. External intervention is very difficult because in a free society you cannot compel people to eat - but they tried that, but it was too late - and it failed. Sadly.
Her vocals were golden, this recording has the appropriate spacey adjustment for the subject matter. The arrangement is practically an oveture. Wonderful version of a really fabulous song
I wondered for a while why I find this strange, easy-to-laugh-at song so wonderfully moving and beautiful. I think it’s because I cannot detect a hint of irony, or sneering, or cynicism or any suggestion that this is being done as a joke. It all seems to be coming from a place of absolute earnest sincerity, without the slightest attempt at being “cool” or concern about image or anything like that. I love it for that!
this song is timeless. i showed it to someone who listens to modern pop music and he said "THAT (this) SONG HAS NO BUISINESS SLAPPING THIS HARD" nothing compares to this song
Karen not only had a beautiful voice, she was a talented musician as well, in that she often played drums etc. for many of their recording sessions. It involved multiple " overlaying" of each instrument she played. ❤
Karen Carpenter had such a wonderful voice - flawless in every aspect, especially her modulation - which you can hear on her cover of ''This Masquerade'', a beautiful song by the late, great Leon Russell two American classics
I'veve only just discovered this videi. Karen sounds in even better voice here than she did on the Passages album track. And another fantastic guitar solo from Tony Peluso . What a treat!
This song resonates with me. As a kid and even now in more mature years. I will always be grateful for Karen's contribution of this song ❤ The message she has been relaying to me is profound. Its message spanning many millenia. We are much more than meets the eye. As more of the population awaken to the message she is sending us the better off we will be. No thyself ❤
It was 1978 when I first heard this song. A little boy in Mt Isa north west Queensland.i remember thinking is this possible are there anyone else out there
Childhood 77, what would this legend be doing now? Duets/ producing/Vocala to a Disney soundtrack? I've outlived you by 20 years, Karen. You were amazing xx
This is the best version; clear, and pristine - every vocal and instrumental element precisely delineated and immaculately mixed. The large choir vocal is particularly distinct and less muddy than in the remixes.
45 years later and it is the first time I hard yje song (or even knew it existed). I was 16 on 1978. Strange I never knew of this song. Found it while researching Karen Carpenter. Sad life.
I grew up listening to Radio 2 where the Carpenters were a staple of the station...some songs and memories you just can't shake...okay it can be a bit 70's twee but it's got more imagination in it than some of the tracks of today.
In 1977 sept to be exact i lost my cherry to a beautiful slighy older women... The most beautiful moment ever.. Janet morgan from Bridgewater somerset uk. Thank you for taking a boy and returning a man..
No words can describe the beauty of Laren and her voice. Her brother also. His musical talent is honed to a perfection that I never k we was possible on this planet! And Karen is the most beautiful thing I have ever seen. And he voice is beyond this realm.
Why isn't there a version of this song that skips the stupid radio sketch but NOT CUT THE REST OF THE SONG? I JUST WANT TO TRANCE TO THE SONG, IS THAT TOO MUCH TO ASK?
amazing song, almost guided meditation, i thought about our planet in low earth orbit, about how blindingly bright it would be, and how aliens could easily be there cloaked in higher domains, realms, space, time, ethics, mind conscienceness and understanding then us :*)
2024 peeps anyone out there listening
I first heard this several years ago in a trivia contest and I keep coming back to it.
Yup
Oh yes
Amazing song still 44 years later. She was taken too soon. Real talent doesn’t exist like Karen anymore. Outstanding.
........Nope! You certainly got that right!! Now it's just all crap, as everything changed in the music industry, after the year 2000.
Yes! This time in music was so amazing. I can remember being in Kmart when I was little hearing this song. Karen and Richard were so amazing.
I thought this was the most magical song when I was a kid. ❤️
It still is 👍. 💖
Indeed it was
Same 👍
It is so magical (Imma kid)

This song is mesmerizing. Her voice is out of this world.

Too perfect for this world, RIP Karen
Is this not the very best voice we have ever heard, I believe it is.
I think what you're hearing is a human voice with very little electronic additions or processing. Though she is doubled through some of it.
Her vocals were golden, this recording has the appropriate spacey adjustment for the subject matter. The arrangement is practically an oveture. Wonderful version of a really fabulous song
Absolutely beautiful! Crying here.... 🥺🥺🥺 How I miss Karen....
..........so do the millions of her in dearing fans. Gone but not forgotten.........❤😇!
You can't help but tear up at her magical voice. Gone too soon from cruel world
I remember hearing this on the radio about the same time Close Encounters of the 3rd kind was in the theaters.
.......that was in 1977.........is when the movie Close Encounters Of The 3rd Kind......came out in theatres.
I've been looking for this song no DJ for many years.
Finally, I found it.
How beautiful this song is!!
Thank you so much, Billy Rees!!
Me too but the day I heard it, the DJ is soooo annoying
The Klaatu version is great
It's perfect......in fact, its beyond perfect.

We need to bring this song back because of everything that is in the news, we may finally be close to telling the world WE ARE NOT ALONE!
Best female voice I ever heard singing
yes, she really is the best female vocalist of all time!
Listen to Eydie Gormet in Spanish. They're equally good
Naturally beautifully perfect .

She looks healthy and her voice is sublime! It's sad to think about what will happen five years after this concert.
This was my first album. She was so wonderful and really never got the credit she so rightly deserved. We love you Karen now and alway

I heard a sound engineer say one time " If auto-tune was a Human, it would be Karen Carpenter". She actually had perfect pitch naturally.

It's a great track. I love that John Travolta plays the guitar solo!

The Radio Station comedy bit intro on the version I have detracts from the song itself.
