I live in wester montana and everyone one always talks about going after the big ones from drift boats but I personally have the most fun when I fish the small tributarys. There's just something special about being able to walk the whole creek and catching native cut throat and the occasional small bull trout (don't worry I'm not targeting them). I've also found that fish in the small creeks tend to be more aggressive meaning big foam dry flies nearly year round.
My friends and I fish a small stream in eastern CA. Too early and its a raging torrent, too late and it puddles, but hit it right and the small brookies are awesome. When we hook a small one on the backcast we swing it over our head and put in back in the pool. We call them helicopter trout
I love ben “I think I’m going to sit here and have a beer” hahahaha by far my new fav channel thank you ben please keep posting awesome Fly Fishing content! I am learning a lot I am a beginner fly fisherman based out of Miami FL USA.
My favorite kind of fishing! Trout rising to dries in broad daylight in the most beautiful places on earth, with no crowds! Appalachians, Great Lakes, Rockies, Sierras, small streams rule. 💪🏻
RE: 9:20, I thought I saw an LP missing its nameplate‽ Those are vintage reels, but still occasionally create some bidding wars on eBay! Relaxing 20 minutes with you and Drew out in the middle of “You’re Not Telling!” 😉
Flying ties on small waters for small fish is some of my favorite fishing! I know...I know...my friends call me lame too! Thanks for the vid Ben! Its now one of my favs!
Exploring new waters is how I recharge. I was just explaining to a friend how you come across areas when bushwhacking a blueline that you expect to see moose. Your day captures a perfect day exploring. Thanks for sharing!
This is like a brook stream that I fish in NM. I live and fish in AK and that little high mountain stream is my favorite. Maybe 10-11 inch brook PB in it. It’s great.
I really enjoyed this Ben. The streams I fish, though far west from you, are this size. With the drought here, I worry about the waters and fish. Loved watching this. I always am edutained (I guess that isn't a real word) by you. Thanks and post when you want to.
My favorite surprise is catching a 20” Cutthroat in a hole 1’ deep on my Orvis 1 weight in just such a “brook trout” Creek. Smaller Cutts are more common.
I was secretly hoping for cutthroat, and then swiftly disappointed when all the brook char were landed. I was once again excited when y'all started landing cutthroat.
Being from Maine I love brook trout, but its a shame to see such a beautiful native cut throat stream infested with them. This is why I make a habit out of keeping non natives in any body water that I know holds native fish. The study site was probably to do research on those cutthroat. good thing that water fall is there or they would be lost, those wouldn't happen to be greenbacks?
@@HugeFlyFisherman who said you had a 3rd choice? Tenkara is pretty dumb though, the closest I been to tenkara was I broke my flyrod so I ripped off a willow limb, peeled the leaves off and tied on some fluorocarbon with a pheasant tail. It worked but was not efficient
I'm from Ben's area and can say he probably is fishing "Willow Creek", but just about every area in Colorado has a "Willow Creek". I'm in Idaho now and there's a Willow Creek just up the road.
@@spuddoright1970 I'm from Montana and we got a few here. It's like "cottonwood creek" I think I've personally seen like 8 cottonwood creeks in person.
Hey peeps. Remember to like and comment, to get a HUUUGE share for Ben Huge. Question - I am an artist, inventor, fly tyer, fly fisherman and creative in many ways. But I simply don't have the brain to run a company bt my self. I've been considering trying to crowd fund the money for the paper works and a secretary (just to remind me of th things, my PTSD brain can't remember by it self) and for patents. The problem is, you can't show or tell anything about a product, before you send in the aplication (I have been through all that once 12-15 years ago, where bad luck fooked things up, and I lost the danish patent rights by not paying for years 4 and 5). If anyone has any good advide on how, I could convince people to take a chance on unknown products, I would looove to hear about it. Have a huuuge day.
Watching this on the throne getting pumped for a day on Henry's Fork.
Happy huge day everyone!

They can all go after big rivers. We’ll be hiking in on small rivers catching native fish
I love fishing the Rattlesnake in missoula

Being from VA this kind of fishing is what I love. Finding creeks like this with brook trout is such a treat.

"There's like forty of them, good luck" 😂
Kind of reminds me of fishing for brookies in the Shenandoah National Forest. Except way less people.
Nothing beats a native creek!
Most fun I'll have in front of a screen all day. Thanks for always keeping it light.
LOVE these exploration videos - keep the dream alive!
Small creek fishing is some of my favorite
Amazing water Dude! Love the vids!!

Many years ago I had a day like this just above Lake San Isabel, over in the Sangre de Christos.
Really miss Colorado.

Love small creek fishing
So many of my local streams in Australia are like this; fishing tight streams like that on light tackle is soooo much fun
My favorite surprise is catching a 20” Cutthroat in a hole 1’ deep on my Orvis 1 weight in just such a “brook trout” Creek. Smaller Cutts are more common.
Love your Videos Bro…🤣😂🤣😂Pauly at Wilderness Coast on Fly in Australia 🤓👍🇦🇺
This was a fantastic episode thanks for posting
how fun, I love little creeks like this one
Man, this makes me want to go hit the Rolla Triangle. Lol.
Awesome to see you embracing Tenkara.
What a beautiful tenkara creek...
Looks like a great tenkara stream. 😅
Super fun
Simply beautiful 👍
Enjoyed the vid buddy
I love fishing for brookies and green cutthroats in CO.
epic video
Should pull some of those brookies out of there and help those native cutties
I was secretly hoping for cutthroat, and then swiftly disappointed when all the brook char were landed. I was once again excited when y'all started landing cutthroat.
Cool vid. I’m glad nobody fishes in CO
I'd love to live there!
“This fish is cold…and plump. Susan”. These is now a woman named Susan from Ben’s past who is really pissed off at him.
Nice tenkara fishing in a tenkara stream. Oh...but you're using the wrong equipment, you took a fly-pole.
Rad!!
they need to make a cap with a rubberized mesh for catching small trout
Glad I’m not the only one who sees an area and thinks out loud, “where is the moose that’s totally moose territory “
Dude, once I started Euro nymphing, it ruined all other forms of trout fishing for me, with the exception of 2wt dry fly fishing. I love it.
That is unfortunate. You’re missing out on a lot of fun stuff that requires a fly line and casting said fly line.
@@HugeFlyFisherman Haha, I think I’ve upgraded. I have so much more fun connecting with them on their level.

Totally naive question but why are cut throats so special in CO? Just trying to learn… thanks!
They are the only trout native to Colorado.
@@HugeFlyFisherman gotcha that makes sense! Thanks!
You sure know how to get someone hooked on dry fly fishing.
🤙
Did I just watch you Tenkara?
If you were held at gunpoint and was told to choose between a moonshine rod or a tenkara rod, which would you choose?
We need an answer on this @hugeflyfisherman
Spinning rod.

Tenkara anyone?
I hope you ate some Popeyes later.
like buck shot on fish in a barrels.
If wanna catch big fish, fish euro
If you wanna be cool, fish dries
If wanna suck at fly fishing, fish like me
thought we weren't supposed to call them cutties:)
I think it's "butters" that's against the law... could be wrong though
I only said that so Kyle would know what kind of fish I was talking about.
Does the person who wrote the script know that this is a fishing channel
PNW?
What if these fish were in a government relocation program and here you are showing their images and putting their names out there!!

Laugh if you must, but a day with a 2/3 wt. rod is just as fun as a day with an 8.
