Not even top 5 of Yasser's stories . Dude is loaded with stories. He told one about a GM who was a gambling addict, made a move, got up, ran across the street, lost money at the casino, came back, borrowed some money, went back to the casino, won big, came back and went to make his move and his opponent told him it was still his turn. Another, Yasser published his first book, already all printed, and received a stack of copies. He's all excited, opens to a random page and realizes and error in the chess analysis. He's becomes upset, flips to another page, reads a bit, and finds another error. He was devastated, thinking it was full of errors, but it turned out there were just 2. He goes to Croatia or something, and runs into Bobby Fischer on the beach. Bobby tells him how much he loves the book, really over the top praise, then says, "did you know there were 2 errors in it?" Which Aman points out to Yasser is a complement itself, since he really read it, and closely too. Another, I forget who he was playing, some top 5 Russian GM or something, and after a tournament, he says, "Yasser, blitz chess, $5 per game, I'm want to make some money for a nice dinner." Yasser responds, "when I'm done with you, you won't have enough money for a happy meal." They play for a little while, then his opponent says, "okay, I'm going to get some dinner." Yasser looks at his watch, "It's 1AM, you can't even get a happy meal." I probably butchered them, but those are some of my favorites he mentioned during past chessbrah streams, streams that either don't occur or don't end up on youtube anymore.
@@jestice75i think I’ve heard the Bobby Fischer 2 mistakes one before, might’ve been on yt or maybe it was one of the rare occasions when I tuned into a stream. All very funny stories, tho, thanks for sharing!
I think he is talking about the ceremonial first move. They get a celebrity or kid or whatever to place the first move of the game. The player doesn't have to keep that move he can play something else if he wants
This was during the Chess Olympiad commentary stream a few years ago, following the games of team Canada on which Eric and Aman were playing. At some point Yasser started talking about his own experience playing the Olympiads for team USA and mentions this funny story from a USA-Mongolia match.
why would he think someone else is playing after the opening? surely hes not talking about the ceremonial first move? usually both players are already seated when that happens
My interpretation is that the guy could not tell the mongolian players apart, and was only kinda certain they'd swapped his opponent. Hence why he goes to a teammate first and not to the refs, he goes to Yasser for a sanity check to hear if he gets backed up.
Not gonna lie definitely one of the best chess story i have heard of.

@@gafgarion9420 because the opponent was probably great at the begining of the game, but bad at the midgame
I don't fully get the joke (sorry) ... please help anyone!!!!!
They bring the guy who resign is the joke
Yasser lied to the guy about the whole thing just to mess with him. Not sure why the guy thought his opponent switched though.
