That's actually similar to a detective story I have read. A person thinks he's life is in danger and gets another complete stranger to live in his home for a week or more while he himself goes to hiding. Later the stranger hires a detective to find out what's going on

I appreciate the note on the correct pronunciation. Even if it is a 'small village' doesn't mean we can disregard any attempt to correctly pronounce the name.

There's a lot of money, status, and influence involved in world championship matches, completely believable. Even more so given that this was during the soviet era.
