it’s my absolute goal in life to become as profound and accurate in my vocal performance as the individuals in the ensembles whitacre works with. what an absolute honor to be able to work with such talent.
If you listen closely the 5th and 4th measure from the end has a little reflection of “The Seal Lullaby” and “October or (Alleluia)” well done whitacre once again.
My high school chorale just performed this at our state choir festival along with some other pieces. Our director is friends with the person who puts all the scores in and she said that we were the only school on the state with a perfect score. Hell yeah. This song still gives me chills
My high school choir was one of the very first to ever perform this piece and I still remember singing it in concert choir and listening to how beautiful it sounded
I love that he's doing different things now. I had the honor of having lunch with him about a month ago and he told me just that, that his music always seems to be a reflection of him. So that makes sense that it would change over time as we all grow through our lives.
Yet another wonderful piece by Eric Whitacre, of a text unforgettable to parents. children, and parents who used to be children. I first found the soprano part quite challenging, but then read the composer note and realized that it is for soloist-quality sopranos, since his ex-wife first sang it in its solo version.
Cedric Lewis, me too! One of his best pieces ever... And that's saying something because all of his music is outstanding. Just a delight to listen to, to perform and to conduct. Sumptuous even!
my high school chamber singers did this song last year.... it's so powerful. brought me to tears several times and feels like you're saying goodbye forever
My favorite from Whitacre : the poem was given life greenly toned by the piano. a beautiful duet for the choir and keyboard accomplishment, my favorite part though them “Bully Basses”. never will you waist class time on his music, there’s always something to immediately enjoy!
i love this a little more simple harmonies, less "Whitacre-y" chords, but still very Whitacre in its own sense i don't think something as grand and intricate as his other works would have invoked such a nostalgic, familiar feeling as this lullaby a grand, eleven note cluster chord doesn't necessarily bring back childhood memories of going to sleep :) i love this piece, though!
Far more reminiscent of Seal Lullaby and Glow. Clusters and crunches but sweet ones like the tinkle of windchimes, not harsh dissonance for effect like in Sleep or Water Night. Good work by Whitacre - syrupy sweet as a lullaby should be.
I listened to this while on the way to work this morning. However, I believe it was a solo. I can not recall her name but her voice was mellifluous. Well done in all ways. Good book, good arrangement, Good Night Moon. 🌙
"well, uh, i made an arrangement of the text of "goodnight moon" for jazz soprano and piano, just gotta put a few finishing touches on it and--" youtube algorithm: "hey, hey loser" "yeah?" "someone just did a thing" "huh?" "and it's what you're doing" "_huh?_" "_e x c e p t b e t t e r_" "**huh**"
2 years ago my choir director decided to do this piece. The thing was that we were in middle school. I was only in 6th grade, but we actually did pretty well. Granted we didn't sound as good as this but for a medium-sized middle school choir with 6-8th graders, we weren't that bad.
I'm an in-between fan. A genius, but lots of his pieces can sound pretty similar, so I appreciate this. I think it's one of the best things he's written.

They sound German lol

Song brings back so much nostalgia. One of my favorite choir pieces and children’s book!
i keep coming back to this
it gives me nostalgia for childhood nights i never had

This is so beautifully written and performed and I can't stop listening
My high school choir was one of the very first to ever perform this piece and I still remember singing it in concert choir and listening to how beautiful it sounded
This is sublime. I've often thought Eric Whitacre could do something special with the odd piano accompaniment in his works and this just shimmers.

Our choir is doing this!

Omggg, I've waited years for this score to finally come out, and it was worth the wait 😭💖🎶

Sally Greenaway absolutely agree!!
I performed this song in New York with Eric Whitacre, and honestly, the alto part was hard for me to memorize XD
Christina Han I’m doing that this November! Not sure if it’s this song, but I am singing alto at one of his performances!
you got to do this WITH ERIC WHITACRE?! okay, i'm jealous
Wait... I performed with Eric Whitacre in 2019 at Carnegie Hall! We’re we performing in the same concert?? Lol
I didn't grow up with this book, but I sang this piece a few years back and have loved it ever since.
A stunning piece of music.
my high school chamber singers did this song last year.... it's so powerful. brought me to tears several times and feels like you're saying goodbye forever
Such a stunning work! Lovely soaring sop. solo, too.

We played this piece in band, and it is so beautiful
Learned this song last year and performed it with my choir, it’s my favorite piece I have ever performed. I absolutely love this
this song was one of my favorite to learn in choir
Our new lullaby for bedtime. Very nice.
i love this

3:05-3:26had me like 😍😍😍
This song for whatever reason sounds like something we would sing for the Georgia All State Chorus. 💖
Judah Norman I'm so glad we're singing it this year for District V Honors Choir!
Neeraj Palnitkar OMGGGGG! Break a leg! I’m excited for you! 😍🎶

My mother read this to me almost every night when I was young, this is beautiful
..this is a completely separate choral arangement, not the book.
@@uniekorntheunicornsurely you knew what they meant though?

Ethereal... makes me feel all warm and fuzzy.
Gorgeous....
Just remember that this is the same guy who wrote "Godzilla Eats Las Vegas"
Remember that the same guy who wrote "Godzilla Eats Las Vegas" wrote every other Godlike heavenly piece of music by Eric Whitacre
Sublime!!
Goodnight mush.....that part gets me lmao
omg amazing
I have to audition for this song in 2 days and it is kind of hard to learn
Currently learning this! It’s so beautiful! For me I like it better singing it not hearing it.
Same for me, with singing you really get a vibe from every voice, while the end result is them all melding together
Cried at 3:09 oof
I sing this to my girls, but to the words from Goodnight Goon :)
Love. Would you consider creating a version for full symphony with the choir
Who is the ensemble singing this?
3:05
This is e sharp I believe
I'm a huge Whitacre fan but I'm not liking this one too much
