Just sang this in concert and while we were not as good as this recording it was exceedingly more powerful to be in it. The most beautiful song to be a part of
Pure angelic beauty especially from 3:30-4:25 I haven't cried so hard since my dad died. It brings the fervor of the transcendental movement and the poetry of Emerson to the forefront. The transcendental movement being "the divinity is alive in all of God's creatures, and to truly know God, you must truly know nature. Lincoln was a Transcendentalist. This lone angelic voice comes in at 3:52 from the horizon, to be massaged by a chorus of God's creatures. You hear this, and it makes you proud to be an American, and even more, a human. To know humans are capable of such greatness such as this music to text is uplifting. "But in the darkest meanest things, there alway, alway, something sings!" Sometimes the most simplest of words, can be so incredibly moving. I tip my hat to you Mr.Forrest you capture the life of the poetry and the time period of it, so well!
Another director told me to listen to this. Not "told" so much as insisted. And now I know why. This is one of those incredibly moving chorals that would stand out in any concert.
This is seriously the most gorgeous song I've ever listened to. I sang this song at honors choir back in October of 2017, and I haven't been able to stop listening to it. Absolutely beautiful!
This song is absolutely beautiful. I just sang it Saturday for honors choir and just fell in love with the song. I sit with this playing and my sheet of music in front of me and I can't get over how gorgeous the song sounds
I love this song so much! I performed it with my chorale at our first concert of the year. was the audience's favourite and my personal favourite due to just the sheer emotion that was put into the beauty that is this song.
Let me go where’er I will I hear a skyborn music still: It sounds from all things old, It sounds from all things young, From all that’s fair, from all that’s foul, Alway, alway something sings. It is not only in the rose, It is not only in the bird, Not only where the rainbow glows, Nor in the song of woman heard, But in the darkest, meanest things There alway, alway something sings. ‘Tis not in the high stars alone, Nor in the cup of budding flowers, Nor in the red-breast’s mellow tone, Nor in the bow that smiles in showers. But in the darkest, meanest things There alway, alway something sings.
I'm 15 and in choir,I went to all districts and sang this song,I didn't realize what it talk about though, it's hope.....one solo sings ah's then we all joined, one voice made a huge impact and everytime I hear this I think of hope. Hope you found this cool per say haha
It would be more useful to have this playing with just the piano accompaniment to match the score being shown. Most choruses will not have the "optional" string orchestral accompaniment heard on this recording.
Wonderful song. My choir director for all region chose this song in honor of her grandfather. Made me tear up with the performance..

Wonder if Dan will do a concert band or orchestral arrangement of this

we were supposed to sing this at graduation this year was our principle said the lyrics were “too sad”

You spelled "always" wrong. Gonna have to recall the score!
Joseph Brandenburg Nope that is the correct spelling according to the song’s title.
Minioricity It's a joke.
