You guys & your "they hated each other" or "Bea hated Betty" comments are WAY off! First of all, Betty said "my cheerfulness sometimes got on her nerves & I don't think she was very fond of me". After that interview Bea's son Matthew spoke out & said absolutely not, his mother loved Betty, she was just reserved & more of a loner who preferred to keep to herself most of the time, so sometimes someone with Betty's cheerful, bubbly personality was too much for her. Bea used to treat the girls to theatre nights out, and Betty would have them all over for dinners at her house. After Estelle fell ill the girls would go visit her together. Both ladies were quoted many times as saying "the 4 of us have really become a family. We are truly a family". Upon Bea's passing Betty said "I knew it was gonna hurt, I just didn't realize it would hurt this much". A far cry from hating each other! Please do your homework before speaking on things!
TwistedDoll09 you are so full of crap! get over it! they did not get along. your wish fulfillment is clouding your judgment. there have been many accounts confirming bea did not like Betty. That comment you stated was said at the sudden passing of bea Arthur, so obviously Betty wasn't going to say "we hated each others guts" at her memorial. Rue mclanahan even said during Bea's funeral service that Bea said "Rue I love! Betty's a cunt!" If you even watch the behind the scenes clips of golden girls you could see some tension between the two. many sources confirmed bea didn't like Betty. get your shit straight
They did indeed like each other, trust me, I know. Bea was just moody. Sometime during 1991, the ladies were on an interview backstage and Bea was telling story while holding Betty's hand and making her laugh. I have witnessed it personally. Its true that Bea was irritated at Betty but then again, the stories of them hating each other are far fetched
I hate it when people over exaggerate.. Bea did not hate Betty. Betty specifically said that be was not very fond of her, Bea was very professional, and Betty was more layed back. The personalities clashed a bit..no biggy.. but they didn't hate each other
I met Bea several times and she frequently referred to Betty White as "That c****". Betty's extreme niceness used to grate on Bea, but I don't think there was ever a real deep-seated hatred. I'm pretty sure Bea just thought it was funny to trash Betty and pretend to a feud precisely because Betty was so very nice and so universally liked. That was Bea's sense of humour.
@@joshdrayton1230 You don't specify how you knew Bea well enough for her to curse in front of you; I'm guessing business professional type thing. But after listening to her one-woman show album and hearing her cuss like a truckdriver, her using the c-word doesn't sound too far off. Just because Betty played generally sweet ladies didn't mean she wasn't capable of swearing either. They were both show biz pros. Lucille Ball was famously tough and salty offcam; her own daughter admitted as much in interviews. An act on camera is not reality.
I love how actors of that generation were so multi-talented they could just toss off a dance routine (often spontaneously) as casually and effortlessly as drinking a cup of coffee.
I did a little digging and found that this is from Dinah! Season 1, Episode 150, aired 2 June 1975. Guests were Bea Arthur, Betty White, and Robert Goulet.
Betty mentioned in an early interview following The Golden Girls' first season that she and Bea had been friends for 10 years prior to the show. What linked Bea, Rue and Betty together was the fact that they had all worked with one another before.
Wow, this is so crazy... there is an episode of Golden Girls where Rue and Betty do an awesome tap dance number and supposedly Bea is about to join them but she injures her foot; the thing is, I thought that Bea didn't know how to tap dance and that was the reason why Dorothy didn't do it, but this video proves me wrong :O
Bea came from the Theater so I knew she could dance and sing! She played Mame on Broadway among other roles. Growing up most Actors and Actresses could sing and dance or if they didn’t know how to dance they learned like Debbie Reynolds did in Singing in the Rain!
Depending on what year this was in the early 70s, and what looks like Bea is still rockin the "Maude" look, her and Betty, both born in 1922, would have been between 50 and 55 here. Maude was on the air from 1972 to 1978, but based on their fashion, and the quality of the recording, it still looks like the early 70s, no later than 1975.
@@MsQuartermaine Yep, Golden Girls came 10 years later. Bea worked with Rue on "Maude" in the 70's and Rue worked with Betty on "Mama's Family" in the early 80's.
This was sooo good to see! What a joy to see 2 of my favourite girlie's dance and tap ánd sing together. What a loss. Hard to believe precious people like them are no longer among us. But they gave us an amazing remembrance! 💕💕
Bea Arthur was a beautiful women, much more stern, controlled & introvert than Betty White. But, as you can see.... they complimented each other & Golden Girls was such a great show that had plenty of complimentary contrasting characters. I think these girls really adored each other, even though they were very different👌
That's really awesome! I know they're all in heaven having a great time. I used to watch the golden girls with my grandma all the time. She was the same age as Betty White. I still watch golden girls to this day.
Listen we all work with people we dont like but we all get the job done. Im sure it was the same for them. I think people get their characters they played on tv confused with real life, were not all going to get along and it really bothers them. I could give a crap. They worked so well together ! Be grateful for the talents and humor they shared with us all. Thats how Im choosing to remember them all.
Too bad this clip wasn't used on The Golden Girls! As she was having her foot surgery in the episode "The Operation," Dorothy could have dreamed she and Rose were younger dancers who appeared on The Dinah Show ten years earlier!

That's what I've concluded. They just clashed sometimes but didn't mean Bea hated her at all. It's blown out of proportion
Very true i hate it when people say that i like her over betty any ways

There are articles to the contrary. Bea & Rue called her the c word

Hahahah, I love Bea's clothes. Her fashion here and on the Golden Girls is just so unique. Love it.
Be said she hated the way they dressed Dorothy.😟 So Bea didn't take any of her wardrobe home with her.
Same. Betty looks nice but Bea looks *stylish*
@@blazebaby89 Bea was a very elegant woman. I think she looked great as Dorothy.

This was Bea’s “Maude” attire.
I don't know why I can't get enough of watching them dance...

Me too.
When bea hit the floor with her tap shoes i screamed “YESS QUEEN” aha
