I’m honestly surprised Hyphen doesn’t have his entire spreadsheet memorized like the robot he is.
These are always fun episodes
He does. He goes threw the show of looking up things to make him "seem" more human.
His laptop actually is not even on.
Why aren't you putting pictures for the mentioned cars? Gives so much context when you're talking about specific model into great detail.
Wait, there are people who don't know all the cars ever produced?
I am shocked
blame Paolo the producer for that, not Jason and Hyphen
Sorry, all! We've all been slammed - DTS, me, and Paolo all - so we had to decide between not having the episode at all, or not uploading inserts. They're back for next week!
some photo inserts wouldn't go amiss, especially for the less notorious cars (like that Kazashi or whatever its name was).
I hope these lazy “no-prep” episodes are because you’re prepping for the Piech Episode
Dude 99% of their episodes have no prep 😂 They’re doing this because people enjoy it and because it’s easy when they’re too busy creating other content or just living their lives to come up with a significant topic to discuss.
Wish this woulda included picture references. Otherwise a great episode!
Yes PLEASE include pictures for reference
Favorite way to spend my lunch break. I love the random number generator episodes!
Thank you for a great automotive flashback! Grew up near the VW Westmoreland plant. My father was one of the earliest employed and one of the last to turn off the lights. Great memories of visiting the plant as a car obsessed kid.…and years later I took my brother’s ‘83 GTI past the plant to visit its birth place but by then it was the Sony plant.
I watched your Miata episode and thoroughly enjoyed it but it leaves me with one question. Why don’t either of you own a Miata?
Not unreliable enough 🤣
I believe Derek has one, or at least had one a year ago or so.
They've both owned miatas at some point. I'd assume they both love them but prefer things that are more unique and weird. Jason loves his old german shitboxes and Derek owns a freaking Miura lol
My Q is why is the MX5 called Miata
@@Antoniosicc I believe he "traded" (bought his way out of the share he had in that since he sorta co-owned it with a friend? anyway,) *that* in for a Mk5 GTi track car because it's more powerful, good handling, fun etc. and 200hp
Element needs to come back as an EV. Boxy smaller than the IDbuzz. They can kill it after 4 model years and everyone will keep buying used ones complaining that Honda does not build a good utilitarian EV anymore.
1964-1996 Ford straight six truck engines have a timing gear! Later models use phenolic fiber gears to reduce noise.
Still pushrod tho
25:11 I actually own a Kizashi (2012 SE AWD) and I've been quite happy with it so far. Fun, zippy little car with some nice creature comforts, but definitely not a track car. It's most fun on back roads up here in the mountains, and has been a great little commuter for me. Shame to hear the one you drove sucked.
I see some people lambasting these as being lazy, or no prep episodes. I however absolutely love your "tales from the spreadsheet". Especially the juxtaposition between Jason's lower numbered shitbox grade normie-mobiles, and Derek's ridiculous relics, and items of automotive aspiration.
I raced in a lemons race against a Kizashi, it was actually really quick lol
it's definitely not fast, at least in auto/AWD flavor.
@@drawesome821 rip the interior out, slap some 200 treadwear tires on it and put it on a track with lemons cars, and it holds its own
Why isn't this on Spotify yet? Or not planned for this episode because of video content?
Sorry, it should be live now. Same reason we didn't do inserts: we were soooo busy that we didn't get a chance to finish it all in time!
Love the podcast, could wished they had displayed the cars in question as a pop-up in video.
I do enjoy the images when available. Thank you for sharing your experiences always.
Finally Jason mentions the E60 M5, as a long term owner who had the exact same comments about it when I first bought it, I can say the 6 speed version is a car that you fall in love with over time, because I initially hated it
revelations on an LFA pleaseeeeeee
Quick note on Currywurst: depending on where you are in Germany you will get two completely different sausages when ordering Currywurst. Either a Frankfurter / Hotdog style sausage (Berlin area for example). OR, if you ask me as a Ruhrgebiet native (where Derek's Benz Was bought), you get a proper Bratwurst.
23:33 I have a 996 Targa and the reason I love it is for storage/carrying sports stuff without a roof rack! I also get 80% of the cab experience but keep the coupe bodylines
Finally I was able to reach the current episode. I'm excited for the next one
I don't think Benz is bringing back the V8 for the C63.
Some early/mid-80s 2.5 Iron Dukes (i think primarily transverse applications) had timing gears. I believe the cam gear was some sort of phenolic plastic material, and would disintegrate at like 120-140k miles. Also, Cummins engines in Rams have always had timing gears. Cheers!
A fair amount of old American stuff used timing gears. A good example is the Ford 300ci inline six.
Some old Mopar stuff had timing troubles as a result of nylon gears IIRC.
The C63 going back to V8 was a rumor first posted The Drive. Mercedes has denied they will backtrack the move to hybrid.
Gordon Murray T.50 and Valkyrie also use timing gears
One could argue that the worst they did with the current G wagon is that they didn't call it W464 like they would be supposed to do. They kept the W463 number but sometimes it's called W463A and sometimes W463.4
The old ones of the W463 (which is the version that started in the 90's when they switched to permanent awd) sometimes get a 461.1; 463.2 and 463.3 for the tiny changes in the model before 2018.
I wouldn't call the Armada and QX56 interior commentary inconsistent. That's when they updated the interior on the armada, and that was the top line model. But when you step into a QX56 out of what was a venue Infiniti era full of G37's and M56's, the QX fell flat.
These were the first gen, refreshed BOF's for the brand, the one that looked like the rear frame got snapped over the c-pillar and spackled back together at some back-country Alabama shack. They weren't far off from the goard looking second gen QX56 to match the flow of the afforementioned sedans in the Infiniti lineup.
11:52 I think the mk1 VW Touareg 2.5TDI had timing gears.
Roller bearing mains on that 356? What a jewel of an engine
GM did the same thing Porsche did - L88 option in the corvette, or the 302 in the Z28 Camaro - which were racing engines for the street
Crazy to think I’ve driven Mines Road so many times… never knew you guys tested there. It’s a good road to test on, for sure
The 7.3 international diesel (found in 90s fords) also used timing gears iirc
The new GMA T50 has timing gears, and I suspect the 33 does as well.
I believe the current 6.7 Cummins uses timing gears in the Ram HD trucks.
The sigh at the same time on the Altima.
i was watching another youtube video and i notixed this on my NEW. do mor of these. i switched right away
Michael Jackson's hair caught on fire. Bad day. 😆
Lol intro caught me off guard sitting here in Greensburg, PA watching.
Woot woot shout aaaht to the 15601!
great one!
The Mercury Capri II 2.8l engine has timing gears. I'm positive, because I replaced a set.
please can there be image inserts please
Second mention of a Suzuki Kizashi by Jason on a podcast lol
they're great little cars! I recently picked one up to daily and I've been nothing but impressed. Shame the one he drove was a dud.
@@drawesome821 Nah, just bad brakes. I always thought it was a great-looking, fun, and surprisingly roomy car!
I'm pretty sure they made a awd version of it right?
the check engine thing in california is wild to me and I'm from Europe, so not really known for lax car inspections either. My Saab has one of those "it's just kinda always there" check engine lights and it passes no problems because they check the emissions from the exhaust and if it's fine it's fine. This car (and i think many others) can just as easily get a CE light from the gas cap not being tightened enough after a refuel. It's like not passing inspection for a confused tyre pressure sensor lol
In Western Australia we don't have regular inspections at all. Other states do but they are pretty basic and usually done by a local mechanic
I'm in Italy and my mom had to fix the CEL on her car or it wouldn't have passed the inspection
Central PA & Mountains. Eastern is 215 - Philly & etc....
DAMN IT! I thought for a split second that you had RCR on here as a guest and I got super excited for all the 12yo type jokes to be had 😂 My disappointment is immeasurable and my day is now ruined!!!
Jokes aside thanks for continuing to share your wealth of experience and knowledge each week with us, as a young car enthusiast I can’t even begin to tell you how much I’ve learned (and sometimes wish I hadn’t learned 😂) from listening to you guys! It’s always a treat, ALWAYS! 👍❤️👏
God I hope they have RCR on, bring all the automotive gays together
Mr. Regular on The Carmudgeon Show would be a daydream!
How long ago was this recorded? Mercedes shut down the C63 V8 rumors almost immediately.
Question could you fit all the stuff, you take for a shoot in the Raptor.
You can, but then you have to leave things like camera and sound cases in the bed which means you can't leave it unattended unless you move it all into the cabin if you stop off somewhere for dinner after a day of shooting. And having a van with an enclosed cargo area is much more secure for the thousands of dollars in gear.
"Journalists don't know how to drive" yikes. No wonder the Kizashi was a complete and utter failure with that leadership, charming as it is.
Always fun an episode! I may be part of the Gran Turismo generation and "showing my age" by saying holy fuck I like how the E60 M5 looks.
Unpopular take: do not think Rolls has made such a great statement than the launch of the original '04 Phantom. I think that car will age like fine wine (and is)
Taking a Century over a Phantom is missing the point. Look at it. It doesn't need to work.
LOOk. At. It.
And me being a grumpy bastard...FJ Cruisers are odd. Odd for the sake of mayhaps but then my cognitive dissonance is that I like Minis so this is basically the same idea but in an entirely different context. I'd love to see what a new one could be like but I think it doesn't work for the same reason the G does, honesty. If it was a Toyota Wrangler but taking a page out of what the original FJ was, that'd be a really neat thing but people probably would not buy that. The Defender proves that they want to look like they do but don't, really.
It's a real shame the Kizashi failed in the US, they're fantastic little cars and are quite overlooked. The AWD version is a little beast in the snow, since the system is closer to that of Quattro instead of being a Haldex-like.
GMA T50 has timing gears too right?
DTS @ 29:33: and then a lot of coming on cam 😂
Ah fuck I deserve this, so sorry
Can we have a buyers guide on all modern bmws
Have you driven 2012 VW Passat 3.6 ? If you have, what is your opinion on it ?
Is this old taping episode? Cause c63 v8 rumors turned out to be false
VW V10 TDI had timing gears!
GET OUT! Hey DEREK - did you know this!?
Jason "4cyl Ultima" and hyphen "4 cam speedster", seems about right
Another great episode, but still waiting for episode on European cars, that you don't get in US , and are maybe your guilty pleasure 😊😂😂❤
" Jason: Although you and Hyphen took great precautions to prevent me hearing you, I could see your lips move..."
Still my favorite carshow but please teach your audio guy how to use some compression/limiting to improve the audio! Dynamics are great in a car but not in podcast audio...
Where are the inserts when u need them? 😢
Love you Phuckers🎉!!
They would talk anything to avoid Piëchisode.
Jason "I'm a font of useless information" Cammisa
Boop !
All hail the algae rhythm 🎶🕺💃🎶
🐶❤🍄🧙♂
The episodes recently have just felt lazy, I really hope we can get some more well researched stuff with images etc.
Clocks ?
Thank goodness they didn't do they whacky camera angle stuff from the last episode. It felt like they were experimenting for a younger, more attention-challenged crowd who need new stimulation every 12 seconds.
Michael Jackson is not the same pepsi tv ad
L❤VE THE MOTORCYCLES 🎉
Why did we stop saying Jason discount Adam Sandler Cammisa
Because Adam Sandler in discount Jason now.
My name is Discount Sandler and I approve of this message!!
Carmudgeons, please buy me a Fiat X1/9 for Christmas.
Can you post a blank version of your excel doc so we can do something similar?
Ohne Mängel
So wie es sein sollte.
day 1854 of asking for timestamps
blargh I disagree with the anti-hybrid C63 backlash; the weight gain from the old V8 to the new hybrid was less than 200 pounds, the C-class is just FAT. And nobody talks about how the 4-cylinder hybrid uses half the fuel and is one of the sexiest four bangers around. Stop knuckle dragging, car enthusiasts!!
