Definitely the new snorkel. You should, if you don’t already, have a meet up workshop where those like yourself, and others with the skill and tools, allow those of us that have neither to come and receive you’re assistance as we mod our own Jeep’s. I’m sure, like me, many want to but we don’t have the tools abs would love someone over our shoulders providing tips. Keep up the great work!
That setup sure does look awesome. We were initially inclined to get the rugged ridge snorkel. Mainly because my wife doesn't want to "spoil" the looks of the side of the hood with the Rubicon sticker. I just showed her your video. She liked what she saw. Now we can do the same. Only, we will fit an LED lightbar in sted of the individual spotlights. Legally, we can only have 6 forward facing lights here in Australia. That's including the factory headlights. So, thank you for posting sharing this video.
@@OzarkOverlandAdventures To be honest, your issue was with the lightbar support, not the RR snorkel. I'm not defending the original lightbar support you had, but if you had applied rubber padding, which was supplied with the KC support, the original might have worked, but in the end it's what makes you happy with your rig, it is after all YOUR rig. I still like my RR Snorkel, and changing the look when I don't want the actual tall snorkel on. BTW, the RR Snorkel does work with the Genesis duel battery setup and for the switch unit, I relocated mine to the driver side.
That first light bar bracket was a complete failure by comparison. “Buy once cry once” certainly does hold true, I discovered that years ago when I purchased a tripod manufactured by RRS (Really Right Stuff) which has worked perfectly for ten plus years… Snorkels by their very nature are functional ahead of form, thus they’re invasive because of where they need to be located. You either need one and love it or not.
Nice install. Besides what you mention in this video, what made you go with this specific AEV snorkel over others? Also, would you agree this newer snorkel is better for river crossings and cleaner airflow because it sits higher? Wouldn’t the other lower positioned snorkel be at risk of drawing in water?
At the time there were really only two options - AEV and Rugged Ridge. The thing about the lower mount on the RR to realize is if you are actually in water that deep, then you've made a horrible mistake and will have other problems to worry about. It will protect very well from an accidental bow wake coming over the hood or splashing water over the hood.

And I did look at this Rugged Ridge one, because of how it's under the hood ... except I don't like how low it is. (Seems to defeat the purpose, to me) But your points of it covering things up, I was like "Ooooo, good TO KNOW! I didn't think of that." So thanks for that..... and now another thing I'm going to wonder about. When you folks out there put Roof Lights on.... where and/or how to you run the wires? For folks without factory Aux Switches. (Though I did just buy the Rough Country MLC 6 switch panel)
You can get them in a high mount too. It's a great option. Just didn't work for my Gladiator. We have one on my wife's JLU. I have a switch panel similar to yours. That's where my wires are run to.
I agree with the pros/cons of the Rugged Ridge snorkel for JL. Servicing the area above the battery required removal of the snorkel air tube, and fitting my Lasfit aux switch bank fuse box, and winch switch or solenoid was a pain since there little space to work with! Once I upgraded the battery to an optima, the RR snorkel wouldn’t fit at all! So I had to remove the Rugged Ridge snorkel altogether. Besides, I’m not persuaded the air box attachment sealed well enough anyway to make that snorkel water tight despite RTV sealant, and it’s too much trouble for a fancy cold air intake.
It seems the biggest problem with the RR snorkel was that it didn’t allow your light bar to attach. For those who don’t have a KC light bar, was there any significant issues with the way RR snorkel operated?
Ah yes. That would be a problem on the trail. Great vid… I’m looking at snorkel options now. I’ve never been to the Ozarks (from GA). I’ve seen you post overland explore trips for your friends visiting from out of town. Do you post these online somewhere where I can jump on one? Would love to see the Ozarks.
They both look good in my opinion but totally understand the frustration that the other set up caused because of the mounting problems. Not sure which direction I will go with my Gladiator 🤔
I know I'm late to the party, great video. How much space is between the snorkel and fender? I see the antenna is there but my light bracket is held out and away from the body by spacers for specifically that paint chip. So I'm not sure how the snorkel will interact with the light bar bracket.
I now have a Mojave and I’m curious why they say it wont fit?? Looks like it might be straight forward other then the bezel maybe needing a slight massage for the taller hood
so... with the AEV snorkel, we CAN'T have A-pillar lights because this rides so close. Can you have pillar lights with this snorkel, if so, which mounts would work? What are your thoughts on this snorkel, have you been happy with it?

Looks fantastic! My one issue with the KC light bar is how it sits low & robs some of the valuable window space. I sit tall in my JK and want every square millimeter of visibility afforded me when taking in the views of the places these machines take us.
Where would you recommend to camp at during the Moore Expo or should I get a hotel room close by. We will probably try and do some off roading somewhere after the Expo for the rest of the week.

Man I love it!! I have to ridge one and I’m finding the same difficulty as you did with it and I can’t put lights on above and I have a light on the hood and I can’t use the top part of the snorkel. And I wanna do a dual genuses battery and can’t do it with this one so grrrrrrr…
Matt, I have been looking at different snorkels for my 2014 JK. I'm thinking the AEV. I decided to see what you put on your jeep. you are installing the one I'm looking at. I have a few questions. Did you seal up the drain hole and pins in the bottom of the air box. (If the new Gladiator has a drain hole and airbox pins that need sealed. If not did you do that on your old jeep?) One thing I can't stop thinking about is when you are running down the road and it's raining where does the water go after it goes in the snorkel? If you sealed up the drain hole in the bottom of the air box does the rain just set in there? Sorry I just had to ask. I'm a retired industrial Maintenace Tech that did a lot of upgrade to many machines. So my brain comes up with questions that it would like to know the answer to. LOL. Thanks for your time. Ray
Check out my latest High Water Mark video and see some of the water crossings I've been in so far. No water has gotten inside the Jeep. The door seals work very well.

I notice you didn’t use the A Pilar bracket that would normally have you drill in the windshield. I was wondering how that would work with the light bar mounts. I am debating on this combo, light system with snorkel. I notice AEV has an optional A Pilar light that mounts inside behind the handle bar to keep things sturdy.

Matt has that black ratchet strap hose clamp held up since you put it on the top of the snorkel. I just did the install yesterday on my zr2 and was kinda shocked by this plastic strap instead of a metal hose clamp...
There is a channel in the snorkel for the antenna and the mirror clearance is fine. Obviously I wouldn't be happy with it if it blocked the passenger door from opening.
Biggest issue with the rugged ridge modular one is it has multiple seems (more risk for leaks) and actually runs down in one spot lower than the stock intake meaning it would be easily submerged in water that you could safely forge with the stock intake
I have a question about your snorkel I purchased a Rubicon from the dealership and it came with a mopar snorkel already installed. How did you get your KC light bar to mount to that snorkel bracket

That's the same setup I'm looking to do with my JL. Love the look! Did you do any special modifications to the upper portion of the snorkel to fit with the KC brackets? I know the snorkel has another mounting point that would normally go into the windshield frame area.

I've been searching for a snorkel that goes with my light bar. I wish they made one that comes out the side near the windshield and runs along the side instead of a long tube running along the side of your hood. It's OK looking, just not my preference.
What sucks is if the rugged ridge ever has a silicone connector or clamp fail, even if its sealed with silicone, and you dont know about it your next water crossing will be disasterous. With AEV at least it will be able to go to the bottom of the headlight just like the stock box even if your snorkel itself fails. I want to get injens evo intake for my jk for the same reason

The Quake bracket had rubber padding on it. It was just too thin and vibrated too much causing one of the corners to hit the A Pillar.
Stumbled upon this video while looking for instructions to install my RR snorkel 😅… luckily I don’t have a light bar, glad it wasn’t a serious issue.

I also didn't like the way it covered the battery and Fuse box and would require removal if I needed to service the battery or access the fuses.

I have the rugged ridge snorkel and have the stealth quadratec led bar for inside vehicle and is super bright
We have the stealth light bar in Cara's Wrangler. It's nice but it takes up too much visibility for our preference.

Snorkel is great!! I have lights on my cowl. There are a lot of cowl mounts on Amazon. That’s what we used on my wife’s wrangler.

AEV all the way. I’ve put a Syklone on top. The air is a lot more cleaner before getting in the engine. I don’t change my filter anymore.

There's not really any place close to camp - maybe an hour away. We always get an airbnb.

Look at a Redarc BCDC charger and a LifePo4 battery instead. Much better system.

I drilled into the KC bracket and attached the snorkel to it instead of the A Pillar. It's working very well.

My snorkel is riveted to the light bar bracket.
@@OzarkOverlandAdventures was that something you did I found out the light bar system you have can be mounted underneath of the original bracket quadratec sent me a picture, thank you
I prefer the look of the Rigged Ridge. Does anyone else make a inconspicuous snorkel like that? The Gladiator is looking great.

How did you mount the midland antenna with the KC brackets?
I modified the Midland Antenna mount and attached to the light bar mount.

Did you do any special modifications to the upper portion of the snorkel to fit with the KC brackets? I know the snorkel has another mounting point that would normally go into the windshield frame area.
I drilled two holes in the KC bracket and attached the snorkel directly to the bracket. Worked great!

I’m currently considering the AEV Snorkel and now that I’ve seen this work around your light bar brackets - I’m sold! How did you mount the upper A pillar bracket with the KC Light bar bracket?
The snorkel bracket is attached to the KC bracket instead of the A-Pillar.

Why not mount light bar on a roof rack?
I don’t have a roof rack. Nor do I want one.
AEV is the only way to go!!
I've been searching for a snorkel that goes with my light bar. I wish they made one that comes out the side near the windshield and runs along the side instead of a long tube running along the side of your hood. It's OK looking, just not my preference.
Sounds like the Rugged Ridge one would work for you.

What sucks is if the rugged ridge ever has a silicone connector or clamp fail, even if its sealed with silicone, and you dont know about it your next water crossing will be disasterous. With AEV at least it will be able to go to the bottom of the headlight just like the stock box even if your snorkel itself fails. I want to get injens evo intake for my jk for the same reason
