  • Europe’s Largest Infrastructure Project Taking Shape In France!
Paris, much like other major global cities, confronts escalating challenges in traffic management. The Paris Metro Railway system, established in the early 1900s, serves millions of passengers daily but is currently strained due to the surge in demand. Paris serves as the nucleus of a much larger expanse known as the Paris region or Île-de-France, spanning 12,000 square kilometres and hosting an additional 10.2 million residents. the broader Paris region relies heavily on cars, rendering the subway system nearly impractical for around 6 million residents. To address these transportation challenges, authorities have initiated a billion-dollar mega-project known as the Grand Paris Express, marking one of Europe’s most extensive ongoing transport endeavours. This ambitious initiative aims to double the length of the existing subway network, introducing a new 200km system with four additional lines and 68 new stations.

They needed to build Grand Paris Express because too many people were traveling through the center of Paris to get from one part of the city to another, causing massive overcrowding of Paris Metro in the center of the city.

Compare the vast costs per passenger per km for ROADS vs huge savings for Rail.

it can get even more crowded, like it has this phycological disorder people will develop over time. Think about it. Great example is insular countries in southeast 💡

That's exactly why, as an ex-city dweller, I chose to live in the countryside years ago. I just was not able to stand the crowds and constant hussle anymore. Now, the closest city is 70 kms away, and I just don't go to any city anymore unless I really have to. Same reason why I never do any supermarket shopping on week ends.
