As a bjj practitioner and bouncer I agree with your rating of bjj. It's definitely very good for self defense especially in 1-on-1 situations, but as you mentioned some gyms neglect takedowns which in my opinion are one of the best tools for self defense.
Also the lack of striking is problematic; I don't think striking is mandatory for self defense, especially 1-on-1 situations, but every martial arts practitioner who trains for self defense should be able to at least defend against strikes, which often isn't taught in many bjj gyms. Also, being able to throw quick jabs and straights is very useful self defense situations, especially ones that involve weapons or multiple opponents. Of course in those situations running away is always the best option, but sometimes it's not possible.
got me with the thumbnail ngl 😁😉
me too!
Finally a good list on yt
Thank you, there will be more on the way!
God tier combo:
BJJ + Muay Thai + Wrestling
Yeah well rounded game is cruical, maybe add some bjj as well
@@Donca_MMA he literally said bjj lmao
Thanks, enjoyed this! Most good martial artists know more than one system, which is a good thing. So many MAs now are watered down versions from what they used to be. If I was doing the ranking, I'm good with yours, but might drop all of them down one rank and only have MMA as an S
The diiference is tha MMA is not a martial art but Mixed Martial Arts together
TL:DR: boxing is good but i wouldn't put it in S-tier because it's one dimensional.
I think boxing is good but a bit overrated. Boxing is only effective if you fight other people who wants to throw hands with you, any kicks or wrestling and you are pretty much screwed in the same way as you said bjj is without takedowns.
Another point you said was that wrestling isnt good in a smaller space, like a club for example. Mate wrestling is literally MORE effective if it's less space.
I would also like to point out that the title of this video is "Best Martial Arts for Self Defense - Tier List". With any striking art you literally have to chase down your opponant to strike them, its when someone gets too close and grabs you that you dont have the option to run anymore.
Yeah you have a point there, for good boxing you definitely need good takedown defense as well, similiar to bjj and takedowns, and I agree that grappling martial arts are better for 1v1 situation. I'll make a new 1v1 video soon so get ready for that!

Already my favorite youtuber 😂❤
The orange red yin yang symbol belongs to Jeet Kune Do.
Putting striking arts above grappling arts makes no sense. In a self defense scenario in almost always when you can strike you are standing and therefore the superior self defense move is to flee.
Yeah but what if you can't flee and have to defend someone?
A good striker can maintain distance with footwork and front kicks. If they have decent takedown defense they catch you with a lot of short strikes on your way in. You would take a lot of damage by the time you took me down
Can’t forget Bobby Green hood style
Krav maga needs to be on the s tier, if you are learning the real krav maga is the best for the streets. You just need to find the right teacher
Sto se tiče samodbrane na ulici, osnove hrvanja sa dobrom bokserskom tehnikom je sve sto je potrebno, ostalo je sve utopija
Muay thai + Sambo + Bjj
You forgot pepper spray, baseball bat's, brass knuckles, knives, pistols and automatic firearms that would be far above all the ''arts''.
And you forgot the point.
I'll make a weapons tier list as well
