"All those other idiots, wishing for a nuclear winter, sheesh." Said by that NPC while you were at a dam. Definitely a Fallout: New Vegas reference there.
this mod is great i'd love to help with music or artwork contributions in the future or on similar projects! Goes the same for anyone working on any other total conversion!
this first version of this game didn't have aged well the lightings were too dark, the anims were rigid , and the sound effects are cringy. but i am glad i discovered this game thanks to the enriched version.
I loved how creepy that tiny detail was in the mall when the mannequins changed places when you were not looking. Anyone in the know about the Weeping Angels from Dr. Who probably got a little creepy tinge at that.
Says the soundtrack reminds him of escape from new York. Makes no mention of the NPC Kurt who is just kurt Russell's character Snake from the same movie.
Quasar; Thank you for the kind words! I use VSTs with a MIDI controller, more specifically this soundtrack was made in Reason 4 (I've updated since). Mark; Thank you for the support! Enjoy and share! :)
Nukey Nukey, Ashes is here!! Vostyok, the Creator of this mod worked on it real hard for few years, meanwhile he showed us some fine preview pics and the demo versions. I'm just glad that i can play the Whole finished Episode 1 and my gosh that was totally worth it. It gets funnier, harder and intense later on, but you should find out why before i telling all of ya! As a Playtester, and Game Sound + Graphic Supporter, i thank you for playing this mod with detailed review what you do best. Vostyok is of course, very happy about it!
Couple things: -Brute stim does actually boost firerate on all weapons. So it's more like that one powerup from Dusk. -Pipebomb has a delayed fuse, but it also detonates on impact. It also has an alt fire I initially missed that lets you place it as a trap.
I've been loving this so far, although I've been having trouble figuring out where the game wants me to go occasionally. My favorite reference has been the car rammed into the reception desk in the police station. Very Terminator.
This mod is now finished and has improved on all the flaws mentioned here, along with adding MORE polish and style. I have enjoyed playing it more than anything I have played in the last 2 years. PLAY THIS GAME! IT'S GOLD!
This was a bad-ass mod, and I totally understand which monster made you nope right the hell out. That jackhammer melee weapon makes short work of them though, if you can muster up the courage to get in close!
this first version of this game didn't have aged well the lightings were too dark, the anims were rigid , and the sound effects are cringy. but i am glad i discovered this game thanks to the enriched version.
I just finished playing Ashes...it has to be the best TC that's come out in a long time. Loved the STALKER and Roadside Picnic references. "Everyone is out looking for the golden globe, or a talking rock, or whatever." Lol
I was following this for a while and just downloaded it myself. So far does not disappoint, a lot of fun. The sounds are very good, also the music. Gunplay superb.
This is exactly what happened while I watched this. I thought: ‘’Reminds me of the Mad Max game without vehicles’’. A lil later - Icarus: ‘’This game is heavily inspired by mad max’’ A lil later still - Icarus: ‘’There is a motorcycle for you to use’’ Me: ‘’of course there’s a motorcycle now it’s definitely a DEmake of the Mad Max game’’ A lil later - Icarus: ‘’In some cases you’ll have to use a Geiger counter in the city. If it goes too high your health will deplete, causing very intense situations as a result’’ Me: ‘’I wish Mad Max had a Geiger counter’’ lol this mod looks awesome!!!!
One of the best mods/conversions I've played & it's add on/prequel was highly entertaining too. One issue in Ashes 2063's secret level (there's a vent to a secret & weapon (Sawed-off Shotgun) that can't be reached, or maybe I'm missing something, but searched everywhere for a way in) but nothing game breaking. Bring on Chapter 2!
The upgraded Mac is incredibly satisfying to use when you turn down a hallway and massacre 5-10 bandits in a single long burst. That's what Wolfenstein, Doom and to a lesser extent Quake is all about.
Damn man, this is by far the most impressive looking Doom mod I've ever seen. Just those graphics, running in the doom engine? Seriously? I'm wondering if they modded any part of the base rendering/"world" design code, this is seriously so fucking impressive given the limitations of the doom engine, especially with how they integrated vehicles and counters and such.
Ashes is an example of a simple, but excellent (in basically every way) total conversion mod for the casual player. Doesn't overstay its welcome, but leaves you wanting more, while still providing replay value enough to keep you sated until the next episode is ready to be delivered. I'm almost afraid to criticize the only "weaknesses" in it, because I worry that the 'improvements' that this criticism might inspire would take away some of the mod's charm and somehow make it less in the end. The only things I found remotely 'weak' in it were the bike handling (and I didn't find it as bad as Icarus appear to have found it - it works all right) and that I found the town areas to be a slightly undesirable lull in the action, but they're short and can be finished quickly and the exposition is very well written, plus they add so much to the world building and atmosphere that not having them would be a loss. Oh and I would have preferred that the solar lantern allowed you to use the auto-pistol with it (since the pistol basically becomes obsolete when you get the machinepistol), but it works really well as is.
Now THIS is how a mod is made. If Doom Chronicles would have half the depth and detail of this mod, it would be the best thing ever. As things now stand, even though this is way lower in the graphics department - although that is debatable - for me this is WAY better than anything I've seen of Doom Chronicles so far.
As far as it stands so far, it is an invasion mod and due to this, at least to me, no matter how advanced it is graphically, it is more than boring. But if it can change it up somewhere down the road, I'm willing to change my mind.
Why bother even mentioning DSC? It's a crappy mod made by some graphics junkie who's clueless about game design. And those graphics don't look at all impressive. I've played Doomsday full with fancy shading and lighting, 3D model replacements and HD textures back in 2009 and it looked WAY better than this. So WTF?
Sophy BJJ whats wrong with invsion mods? Let me guess you are one of those "Trv Fanz" who hate it when the classic Doom formula is changed? i guess you never played Skulltag invasion and Stronghold back in the day.
I played both, still don't like invasion mods. I like it when the formula is changed, but I like it when a little bit of creativity is used instead of dropping a few hundred monster types, map assets and textures into a blender and calling whatever comes out an invasion mod. I was young not even ten when Doom came out, believe me, I played a lot of mods and wads since then. Invasion mods simply happen to be a type I don't like. It's simple really. For instance, I like it when the Doom formula is changed as it was in Unloved, the first one. Or this here mod above. Fighting off waves of demons? Yeah, not for me, thanks.
this was a good year for doom mods. a deus ex mod and a rage mod. wish i had a pc. ill probably get a switch when the new metroid prime comes out. i love the old school fps.
this first version of this game didn't have aged well the lightings were too dark, the anims were rigid , and the sound effects are cringy. but i am glad i discovered this game thanks to the enriched version.
Wait wait wait, this has HEAVY inspiration from fallout 1 and 2, I mean theres a NPC merchant named Smiley, there's mercenary named Smiley you can hire, sooooooo see my point
Great total conversation :) I would say it's like a new game. For me this mod scores strong 8/10 and I definitely hope it will get cacoaward this year :) There is room for improvement, You point many stuff just like I fell. I have played it, finished and I am waiting for more :)
If it weren't for the stock Doom wall-pushing grunt sound and some Doom textures, it could fool me into thinking it was a professionally designed retail game. The level design, most of the sound design (including music) and general production values are just that good.

Playtesting/playing Your mod endlessly. Great work and much appreciated for the Work!
easily one of my favourate doom mods.keep it up.
this mod is great i'd love to help with music or artwork contributions in the future or on similar projects! Goes the same for anyone working on any other total conversion!
Sent you a post on zdoom forum, buddy. I love your instagram stuff.
It feels SO much like what RAGE would be if it was made back in 1996 - I'm into it!
A part of me is tempted to try if the mod would work with my rage mod, but i'm lazy to even try to do that, i have other projects as of now XD
It feels like what RAGE would have been if it was made by Apogee.
@Denam
Nah, dude. RAGE was garbage.
Carmack is a fucking magician being able to do RAGE at 60fps on X360 and iirc, PS3.

12:58 Nice mancubus ‘scare' moment and homage to doom 2 there. Startled me for a bit too xD
I'm so annoyed. Had the idea of using the same scare in a dark map of mine, but with other enemies as well.
It was unexpected xD
You see a Mancubus - you shoot! Thoughts come later.
@@volocat exacly xD
I shot this thing twice with a shotgun before realizing what's going on! 10/10 jump scare :D
That barkeep is clearly kurt russell, points for that alone. Looks like tons of easter eggs and references overall, freaking awesome!

I like how he instinctively shot at a cutout of a Mancubus as soon as he saw it.

mancubus. incubus is a male succubus.

Any tips? I'm getting destroyed on survival mode. D:
Apparently Mr. Snake got himself a nice job as a bar owner.
I wonder if everyone who passes by is like "you're still alive? I thought you were dead!"
4:55 Well good to see Snake got a job after he used that EMP satellite to fry the whole world.
Looking forward to the review of Ashes:Afterglow! Took a long while but chapter 2's finally arrived.
Btw, Kurt the batender on 4:47 is actually Snake Plisskin from John Carpenter's 'Escape from' series. Nice touch
*Plissken
@@sdfkjgh thanks for correction, dude
The silenced SMG is definitely a reference to Escape from New York too. This mod looks excellent, I can't wait to play it!
Oh yeah! That's Kurt Russel as Snake Plissken! That's so silly.
It's fun to imagine Ashes as a gamified sequel to "Escape from L.A."
Couple things:
-Brute stim does actually boost firerate on all weapons. So it's more like that one powerup from Dusk.
