My pleasure! As always, you do such a great job demoing amplifiers. You always make them sound amazing. I'm so glad we can always count on you to do a proper demo.
Ola, last week Phil McKnight mentioned it was you and an old video of yours that taught him how to get good sound from his first Mesa amp's MK II channel
Mesa amps are always weird fishes. All of my mates and most of my fellow musicians are Marshall / "british" voiced amp players and when they look at the EQ on my Rectifiers it blows their mind how far removed it is from the "shape" they're used to, but if it sounds good... it is. Also, the bit on this video when you replied to the comment about improvising over backing tracks by saying that you don't and you write, rehearse and agonise, that's a rare level of integrity in the RUclips guitar community these days. Yours truly, a happy new subscriber.
@ It's awesome, pretty darn perfect tone and response/feel, cut and speed but not too dry and quick, so retains that liquid lead. I don't have an OG simulclass to compare it to, but from the clips I've seen theyre very close, and in the clips I liked sometimes one amp, sometimes the other. And it is hard to tell them apart in his blind test ( alotta fun). As did most of the comments I read (El Dorado Guitars has the excellent vids)
Merry Christmas. Yes Ola did a fantastic review. You did an amazing review of Mark 7. I totally agree with you about Gibson/Mesa letting people do a proper review. I am guessing whoever edited the video was not a metal guy (in regards to Gibson video). In regards to video quality, I do not think it matters that much. If you are getting the information across it doesnt matter on the quality of the picture. Some of these people that have high quality videos either have a background in editing video, have someone that does it for them or has years of experience. If you are doing reviews for us metalheads, it doesnt matter.
Thanks so much for commenting and for what you said here. I really appreciate that very much. I really hope I can do a demo of the reissue as well. I would love to see how it sounds compared to my jp. Cheers and Merry Christmas to you and yours.
Merry Christmas to you as well. Thank you, I'm glad you enjoyed the channel. To your question, yes I did try the Triple Crown a few years back. I remember thinking it was a pretty cool amp. I'd love to revisit it though.
Imho this amp isn't worth the price tag at all. All the sounds i have heard coming from it, you can replicate at 1/3 of the cost or less. Just a money grab
I was just waiting to see if he'd get the oscillation because I know he likes to crank the gain and treble on his original. Luckily he doesn't have the issue and I've only seen 3 channels showcasing it so hopefully it's rare. I know manuals for years have been talking about microphonics on extreme settings but this was happening on reasonable settings like treble on 7, Volume I alound 7 or 8, Lead Drive on 6, Master on 2, Lead Master on 4, etc.
Hi Mr. Tone Wars, if I bought the Mr. Scary Mod, would it tighten up the tone or would only just add more gain to my Friedman amp? Ideally I don't want to change the tone, but just want a little more gain.
Congratulations on the mod. It will add more gain and change the gain structure slightly. It actually makes it just a tad bit tighter. At least that's what it did for my j e l and my badlander. That said, the voicing of the amp will be pretty much the same.
Also, by the way, I saw a video with the influencers, and they said they only had 5 minutes to look at the amp, they brought them into a room and they didn't know what they were getting into, and they wouldn't let them really dial in the amp!
To be controversial, the amp doesn't need to be marketed well at all to sell. There really is no demographic that will buy a 3.6k reissue tube amp that is practically single channel as well this day and age that doesn't already know they want one regardless of what demos Mesa/Gibson put up. The people who know what it is and how it works will just go ahead buy one anyway, and in this economy plus most metal guys below 40 years of age playing digital gear, it's not a lot of people who you need to market it to left. Everybody who cares at all knows that it does tight and brutal metal tones too.
Jarrod you are right about Overdrive Pedals,i just use my cheap Behringer TO800 OD in front of my High Gain Plugin amp models and also other real high gain amps and my tone is always better with the OD on!I just tried my TO800 OD into my audio interface with the free Tonex CS software plugin and it made the high gain amp models sound so much better,it filtered out the low end mud and just improved the overall tone of these high gain amp models!I wish Ikmultimedia could put a Overdrive Tone block in the Tonex?Maybe in a future update?
Thanks for commenting. To your question, hopefully IK multimedia is working on an overdrive Block in a future update. That would be awesome. Fingers crossed.
It is all a matter of taste like you have said Jarrod. Great video. For me I like the Mark IIC+ more!!! Nothing against the JP Boogie!!! I do not know if I can get one. They look like they are all sold until March of 2025
Honestly, I was going to say something similar, but on more of a negative side. I know it’s marketing, but it’s also getting sad that we are to the point of having to re-demo 10 year old amps because we are running out of new breakthroughs. I can’t recall if it was on this channel or not, but it’s getting time to start looking at the little guys that are trying to make it out there with all they have. Relying on Ola’s ears and seal of approval shouldn’t be our standard. Sure, we all want to hear what the amp sounds like From a PROFESSIONAL in a professional setting with the best production gear you can have. But what happens when you get it home to your house with other variables? Put your phone away, and now it’s just you and the amp and up to yourself to make a great tone out of it. Depending on your room, you may never even get one! So now that we have Ola’s blessing we are allowed to go buy one now? I know an amp builder that would crush that thing. The issue is money. We don’t have the luxury of building an amp whenever without capital. But custom amplifier costs are scoffed at these days. It’s a battle every single day. He doesn’t have all latest and greatest production equipment, so sound samples are very difficult. He just built a 300 Watt amp for a client called the Gargantua that the owner will be recording with so he will have some demos. Anyway, as a marketer/ designer myself, I have seen things roll out like this many times. To the point where some places had changed their name. It’s sad, but at the same time, like a car wreck, you can’t help but look as you drive by. I like modelers, and the technology will continue to grow. But there’s nothing out there that can make you feel like a great tube amp going through your chest. So we have Ola’s Amp of Approval now. Can we now jam out with something people?!? Go play some Metallica on the worst possible settings on any amp you have and have fun with it! Would make a great video! I consider any musician a friend of mine, and the world is a crazy place. So let’s try and stick together and support the workers, companies, janitors, new businesses with all we can! So……. *quiet voice * did it chug? 😏
@@donniejean Umm, as opposed to how it was before RUclips and the internet? The only thing we have to go on is professional recordings using those amps, but with mystery cabinets, micing techniques dual or even quad tracked? The closest thing we could get to a RUclips video on an amp is going to your local music shop and hope they have it in stock. Considering how brick and mortar music stores are diminishing, and the ones that are around have really shitty stock and/or really shitty/clueless employees, Ola isn't the be all end all of marketing, but he is a viable resource for people who would like to hear an isolated track of an amp's tone.
@ thanks for your reply in that context. I had a point when I started writing, then I think I sort of forgot what it was lol. Basically, I just hope that people don’t buy it just judging by that one video. The sound could definitely be different when you get one. I spent way too much money because of videos like that thinking it will make me sound similar, yet it never did. So while yes, there are alot of bad videos of it in the wild, it’s still the amp either way. I just want people to know that even if they don’t end up as polished as Ola, they can still have a blast with it and enjoy it :-) Hopefully that makes a little bit more sense? 🤘🏽🤘🏽🥳😎
Jared, ask Quilter to lend you their Overdrive 202 high gain amp. It is same shape as the a Toneblock but it is their analog solid state take on a Dumble Overdrive and an old Mark II C+ hybrid that the Quilter crew used in their possession in their R&D. It would be interesting to see how close it can sound to your JP2C because no one has done that on RUclips.
Boot pedal dude right here boot pedals are life fact I got a fever and the only prescription is more boost pedal get them. Jarrod tell them dude to kick rocks.
Thanks for commenting. Actually, with the active tone stack, you can pretty much do that. Just turn on the shred mode and adjust the tone stack accordingly and you can make some adjustments.
@TONEWARSgearshow thanks man . I hate to get ppl wrong. Don't let those boost nazis get under your skin. Remember the slower crunchy stuff is where you really shine. It's all good though
Dinosaur shits have gotta be frgn massive!! 🤣🤣 …seriously though, I agree with your sentiment! Yeah man, that’s unfortunate. When that came out, it immediately went on my want list. Good to know it actually is as good as the original, and then some. Love your honesty and humility, brother.
Hilarious titles. Mesa Boogie amplifiers do not need any advertising, anyone who has anything to do with electric guitars knows what they are capable of and what has been recorded on them. Poor self-promotion changes nothing.
Ya I thought the exact same thing, the demo's were super lame and weak with other guitarists. It's probably the heaviest amp ever made and they're demo'ing clean and crunch tones? One thing that's amazing about the Mark 2c+ is how the EQ knobs come before the preamp gain, so it can basically be set up to act as a boost pedal. I didn't know this until Ola explained it. No wonder they chug so hard naturally! Ola made it sound the way it should
Ola did a nice video. He did not "save Mesa". But hey, it is the Interwebs and hyperbole reigns. Indeed Mesa's launch was inauspicious for metal guys. However, they've done some videos since then and have highlighted the heavier side of the amp. It's funny to me that today's metal crowd really like to whin and complain. What the heck happened to the scene?
Mk2c makes other sounds too ya know? Wasn’t made to be a metal amp, Metallica made that happen. Every generic metal head.. “Make it do the noise”!!! Gotta get those clicks and likes though.
The Gibson demos were trash. Doug West recently did a video and actually made it sound good. Before that it was on par with any basic starter SS practice amp. I’m looking for the Ola one now.
Im a rube. And i just wanna hear some damn Metallica on it. But no one will do it. I know I'm a basic bitch. Will people get copywrite strikes if they just play a few riffs?? I'm genuinely curious. Not tryin to be a dick at all.
@@TONEWARSgearshow Thank God. Maybe I haven't looked hard enough. But I was expecting Ola to do a couple riffs and instead we got Dream Theater. Everyone's given me blue balls with their damn reviews.
The fact that they didn't pay him or EVEN LET HIM KEEP the amp shows how far up their own asses they are. 🤣 You'll never catch me with a new Gibson or Mesa. I'd rather play a modeler.
Mesa has always had mediocre demo videos to appeal to a wider range of guitar players. Its whatever...I rely on guys like you and Ola to show me the goods anyways.
These amps will be obsolete because of the price tag the tonnex is Awsome snd the neural pluggins are amazing for recording and the stl stuff, I sold my boogies Marshall’s all as mod cause not playing live much anymore I guess it depends on how much u gig and if your playing heavy music you will still need an amp, but if you playing anything other than metal modellers and plugins are a wayyyyyy cheaper way to go , the pricey big amp market is gonna fade because of the cheaper competition, my buddy got the jc mesa, he couldn’t tell yhe difference on a recording now he gonna sell lol buy 3 more guitars and a bunch of plugins
I am a Gibson guy and I have to say they made better guitars in the 70s 80s and 90s and very early 2000s like a handful and you think with technology nowadays that they would have it down while all I see from Gibson is stupid ass prices and garbage for guitars Like the gig is up it’s time to either move on or get back to making them the way they were supposed to be made back one unless Paul was alive I can literally pick up at 1985 Gibson and it works and sounds 20 times better than anything. They have on the shelf that’s seven to $10,000. And we only paid 2500 back then so now the qualities gone all the shit and the prices are sky high so they can keep them on the shelves as far as I’m concerned until they well like buddy says here get rid of the marketing team and start building them properly Pretty pathetic when they have to cut back on a little piece of wood to make the guitar sound better If it’s all about money, all the musicians are gonna move on anyway so see you later Gibson
This Amp Used to Be a Dream of Mine, Though I’m a rectifier Man. So, Mesa has always Made products hard to Dial in. Every one or Anyone Looking at this amp, already have played with it or are trying to sell to a very Expensive audience Look JP, why don’t You demo a Stirling Guitar You have a decent Mix, feels less than authentic and and I have been playing a Very Long time. Bro how about gift a MezzaBarza. I mean WTH? You should be so grateful and Your trashing not only USA But World wide Company in the heart of USA.people buying that Amp know it’s been on Countless Amazing Records. I think Your Being kinda a Crybaby, ungrateful snot dude. Boo hoo. Go USA Go MESA GO Gibson GO America! You’re so terminally unique in a seemingly Mid life thing You got Going. Maybe Gibson Will Give out a 100 Marks to Kids Who want to learn Guitar. Kids Less Fortunate to have guitars the Price of New Model Sedans. Icky Bro
Ola really made it sound better than anything I've heard before, he also posted a comparison video of the original and the reissue but it's unlisted and can only be viewed via a direct link. What can I say, for me the original smashed the reissue in terms of THAT sound of Mark IIC+ but it does sound like a Mark. I commented under the comparison video saying that it could be better than just 1 minute playing. He replied to me that there would be a more suitable video with Mark VII, JP-2C, OG and Reissue. I'm waiting for it. And also Mesa finally reached therealkillertone and the video will be on his channel somewhere in February but there also will be something unique regarding Mesa around January, I think it is a reissue of Dual Rectifier. Regarding the boosts, I'm not a hater of people who use boost pedals but I'll be frustrated hearing how shitty Mesa/Boogie sounds without a boost pedal just because some newbie couldn't find enough time to figure out how the damn thing works. I never get into fights about boosting with Rectifier or Marshall but when it's Boogie, I want people to be smarter. I'm glad you know these basics. I mentioned basic players in one way, you in another, pretty funny.
@fedrek01 same here!! Honestly, I've completely lost faith in them. I am going to bet that they're going to screw up the launch of the dual rectifier reissue as well
@@TONEWARSgearshow My friend said - I will never buy anything from Mesa again after they were bought by Gibson after he heard the C+ reissue. I try my best not to be too harsh, but if they fail Recto, I won't hold back.
Tiddlie Winks!!!! And... Its hard for me to believe boost Karens are still rearing their ugly mugs around this channel. Johnny has 2 boost pedals, then Johnny buys 3 more boost pedals, What does Johnny have now? Johnny has happiness.
it's a high gain amp made for metal. let's send it to some guys to review that only play blues - not that well at that imo - who know metal guys scoop the mids and they absolutely refuse to scoop the mids. then let them plug it into a strat or telecaster and there you go. it's not just Mesa Boogie. Why do so many review channels have blues players reviewing metal gear that can't even play metal as they act like it's a sin to have the ability to play multiple genres of music well - it's not it's easy. Then let them spend exactly 5 minutes with the amp and turn on the camera and start recording.... i kind of hate a lot of youtube review channels.
Thanks for the kind words! It really is an amazing amplifier!

Gibson is a soulless corporation that profits from people with passionate souls.
Ummm isn’t that every corporation from computers to potatoes?
They aren't forcing people to buy their products are they ?
Yeah guess who gave you your voice on this platform. If you're real.
Lol I love this guys opening dialogue lol!
Thanks for taking the time to answer my question about the shred mode/overdrive on the JP-2C! 🤟🏻
No problem at all! Happy to help!
Mesa amps are always weird fishes. The cab you currently have uses v30s right? You should try a new cab or do a speaker swap! Maybe evh g12s or some eminences
Yes those are vintage 30s. I'm planning on doing some speaker swaps in one of my cabs in the near future.

The Gibson demos were trash. Doug West recently did a video and actually made it sound good. Before that it was on par with any basic starter SS practice amp. I’m looking for the Ola one now.
I know zero theory either i freestyle Play ❤❤❤ just saying there's just as many doing it our way, as the other 💯🤘🎸🧬🎶🌹
Gibson clears a billion dollars a year and somehow only has a marketing budget of $17 dollars and a ham sandwich lmao
Bahaha, well said!!!
Im a rube. And i just wanna hear some damn Metallica on it. But no one will do it. I know I'm a basic bitch. Will people get copywrite strikes if they just play a few riffs?? I'm genuinely curious. Not tryin to be a dick at all.
You won't get copyright strikes for playing riffs. If I get one of these amps on my channel I'm going to play all the riffs on it.
@@TONEWARSgearshow Thank God. Maybe I haven't looked hard enough. But I was expecting Ola to do a couple riffs and instead we got Dream Theater. Everyone's given me blue balls with their damn reviews.
I wonder, is this worse than "Play Authentic?"
Haha it's very close
@@TONEWARSgearshow i think there is more incompetence here and more contempt in the P A scandal.
Sounds incredible til it fails.and the circuit board burns up.like its built to do.
Mesa didn’t need saving.
Damn boost Karens lmao, not everybody wants to have a cookie-cutter tone! At least TRY to be original!
I am a Gibson guy and I have to say they made better guitars in the 70s 80s and 90s and very early 2000s like a handful and you think with technology nowadays that they would have it down while all I see from Gibson is stupid ass prices and garbage for guitars
Like the gig is up it’s time to either move on or get back to making them the way they were supposed to be made back one unless Paul was alive
I can literally pick up at 1985 Gibson and it works and sounds 20 times better than anything. They have on the shelf that’s seven to $10,000.
And we only paid 2500 back then so now the qualities gone all the shit and the prices are sky high so they can keep them on the shelves as far as I’m concerned until they well like buddy says here get rid of the marketing team and start building them properly
Pretty pathetic when they have to cut back on a little piece of wood to make the guitar sound better
If it’s all about money, all the musicians are gonna move on anyway so see you later Gibson
Icky Bro
It won’t be :). Brbw
I really hope Gibson doesn't screw up the marketing on the reissue of the Dual Rec. That would be horrible. We'll see..
@@TONEWARSgearshow The last cool one was Badlander. If they screw up with this, I'll be speechless.
Das BOOSTS!! 🤘
Yeah! You tell them boost Karen's Jarrod
it's a high gain amp made for metal. let's send it to some guys to review that only play blues - not that well at that imo - who know metal guys scoop the mids and they absolutely refuse to scoop the mids. then let them plug it into a strat or telecaster and there you go.
it's not just Mesa Boogie.
