I ***almost*** bought one of the combo versions of the older Mark IIC series. When I first got out of prison, my lawyer gave me a Japanese Strat with a stag mag at the bridge and offered to buy me an amp and that was one of the ones we looked at. It was used and very affordable, but I couldn't figure out how to completely bypass the active solid state graphic EQ. It just wasn't quite my sound. You got a better sound out of this thing than I was able to, it's a little more focused and less muddy.
@@skaldlouiscyphre2453 I just don't like what it does, same reason I don't really like putting EQ pedals in the loop with other amps. For one thing, if you're pushing the gain hard, it's going to hit the stages responsible for that active EQ enough that it might clip, and clipping from stages that aren't really made to be overdriven sounds less than ideal. It's also a feel thing I guess, even when I'm playing with high gain sounds, I find that the shortest signal path gives you the most immediate response. I made my own one stage boost with a 6au6 running at 100 volts and put it in front of somebody's homemade 18 Watt, and I got almost exactly the sound I wanted, the sound in my head. That sound really isn't some kind of mid-90s scoop, and it definitely isn't the Master of Puppets sound, maybe for that you need a solid state active graphic equalizer. It's not for me though.
