I’m working on a farm, out in the field, dragging a generator around is too much trouble. I’ve got the new Flexvolt 60v grinder, DCG418, and it’s very impressive at getting the job done.
Oh yeah you got that one right . That 60 volt grinder is a beast . And I wouldn't part with it either

100% agree. Had a small vice and a grinder in the service ute, used it all the time to shorten bolts, cut locks (with permission), notch steel, etc. This guy's reviews are all terrible.
The simple fact he has the grinder upside down so that it will kick back towards him shows that he doesn't have a clue what he's doing.

Mechanic here, this cordless grinder is the cats ass. Can grind through 2 grinding disks non-stop before I killed the battery. This tool no joke if you need one and hate cords like I do it's must have.

@@smotheredchrome I bought the power detect grinder (the 8ah kit) & got the 894 1/2 impact free! Anyways.. the grinder is awesome! The battery life is amazing.. Seriously amazing! Even with just a 5ah it last a long time. I use it on the job everyday. The flex advantage sounds great but for the price this one could not be beat! 279.00 = 8ah battery + fast charger + pick a free tool (+a big tool bag -not the average scrawny one LoL) ✌️

When this comes to australia I'll probably only buy it if it and the 8 amp batteries are particularly well priced. Otherwise it's straight to the new 60v dcg418 grinder in a few months and retrofit it to take a 7" blade potentially

Andrew depending on what type of wheel you get it’s for cutting (metal, cement, porcelain, quartz) removing rust, and grinding down cement.

@@metal4life1966 lol dewalt is the best power tool company out there look it up buddy. Milwaukee been around since the 80s dewalt since the 20s dewalt has many options of tools compared to the Milwaukee brand ask any union guy what they prefer most of them will prefer dewalt like myself.
As a millwright I have to say having a a good cordless grinder can be an absolute god send for some jobs. Especially when your working inside a large machine with no power outlets around. In the shop I prefer corded but on the floor cordless all the way.
As a plumber in a high rise condo we use a cordless Dewalt grinder and it is very useful as many areas of the building do not yet have temporary power and we need to cut steel for sleeves etc. Does chew through batteries though
When ever I use cut off wheel I wear my welding helmet with grind mode I’ve had them explode to many times and when they do ur thankful u had a full face gear on
Even the bystander needs protection if you've ever seen the recent post by the guy who was hit in the eye when his father's wheel exploded and hit him across the bridge of his nose from 8 feet away.. Kept his left eye but the pupil will forever be damaged. I imagine sunglasses will be his permanent fixture.

I was cutting a stainless steel catwalk in half the other day at work, and the grinder jerked back at my face because it didn't have a handle. Thank God I had a face shield, or else I would have a scar from my forehead down to my chin. You gotta hold on to that grinder for dear life. *Always use the handle, And wear face shield+glasses. (And I know sometimes the handle gets in the way)
I'm 52 years old and never owned an angle grinder. I've been getting more into fabrication and finally started looking for one. I'm heavily invested in the DeWalt ecosystem, including some 60v tools. I picked up this tool as my first and only angle grinder, and I have to say it does everything I need it to do. Glad I didn't buy the Hercules from Harbor Freight like I had planned.

@@darlington87 Came here to say this. This channel is pretty biased against Dewalt in particular, but is a huge fan of Milwaukee. That's all fine, but it shouldn't be used as a reliable source for reviews or comparisons. It's basically an opinion channel for entertainment purposes.

Hey Vince, good review. I was wondering if there was a more exact way to test battery life? Could you put use a multimeter on the battery leads after a test to see more accurately how much charge the grinder ate up? I don't know ifits possible, I'm just wondering. Because I feel like that grinder is going to chew through batteries
I have the previous version of this XR grinder and I use it to cut tile and cement board. It works very good, the smoothest cutting grinder I ever had, makes a lot nicer smother cuts than the corded version. Cuts as smooth and nice dry as the wet saw and it doesn't draw a lot of battery for tile cutting. I typically use the 3ah or 5ah and get the job done for the day. One of my favorite tools.
Curious...is it the DCG412? 'Cause that's the one I just bought! It's not brushless though.

I used my old 18v one to cut through a couple of closed shackle abus padlocks, legitimately.
The locks were securing access to a couple of hydraulic motors on a bridge in Whitby, England (Famous for Dracula). I went onto the job with a couple of 1mm stainless slitting discs and a spare battery in either nail pouch of my work vest. The locks took about 10 seconds each and both done on a single battery.
Makes you really think about what you're trying to protect when using padlocks.
As a tile setter can’t tell you how many times I’ve gotten to a new construction site with no power and didn’t require a wet saw to finish job (sigma score and snap and Milwaukee fuel to cut around outlets.). Been to a lot of old houses where outlets are hard to find or trip when corded grinder or wet saw turns on. Plenty of reasons to have this if you have a use for it.
I use one on my deer stand out in the woods. And I was very glad I had it. I did not have to take a generator out there with me to work on my stand. This tool came in handy for cutting old rusted screws and bolts off to replace a wood floor that was rotting out in spots.
You had me at the beginning.. I was like well what did he find that I didn’t show in my video because I love this tool. Lol. Light years from the Dewalt 18v.. be safe stay healthy buddy!

I can answer one of the first questions you asked. (I haven't watched the whole video yet, so maybe it was a rhetorical question.)
'Where will you be where you can't plug in your grinder.'
The answer is: In the middle of a field that has a tower that ripped the center drive off of the center pivot and has to be welded. The 100' leads barely reach, and we can't drive in further because of wet ground. I could use a dc grinder, but for the use case I need the cordless grinder so little I saved significant time not having to drag out an extension cord or a generator.
Had a similar issue in the middle of a forest/swamp with a pipe I had to cut, Luckily I had recently purchased (on sale) the DeWalt DCB1800B 1800 Watt Portable Power station

I ended up picking up the 413 bare tool a couple months back, love the convenience of being cordless, but does eat up batteries quick
I'm a roofer, I use cordless grinders for knocking mortar out of brick walls and chimneys. Very useful, saves dragging a cord up the roof for a quick cut
Love your videos, but used my 20v brushless dewalt almost every day at work until I burned it up. I used 6 ah batteries in it and I got a decent amount of run time. Now I have 2 m18 fuel grinders and I use the 8ah batteries. As an on site heavy equipment mechanic with out an a service truck its not always feasible to get 120v to the equipment or everything is 3 phase and no 120 around.

The company i work for is contracted with multiple police agencys with that being said we get tons of Traffic collisions.
When dealing with car crashes we could have Guard railing, fences ,gates etc in the way that we have to cut just to recover the vehicles,this tool works too perfectly in those situations (when time matters) just the other night we had a light pole blocking lanes
I was able to move it out the road way with the tow truck but the part where the light hangs out was still blocking part of the street I was able to pull this tool out with a cutter wheel and cut it then bend it out the way
Those are just some things this cutter is great for, time is everything when it comes to opening roads back up and this beats
Pulling out a generator and running cords
Plus finding where to store all that on a truck since we don't need it all the time
This dewalt battery cutter is compact and ready to go with a push of a button
I love my 4" grinder. I'm a roofer and use it a ton and its soo nice not having a cord. However I have a corded 7" for grunt and unlimited work time. But in the event of no availability of power I'd be able to push on through with the 20v
I was looking at this one but went with the flexvolt because the grip was more ergonomic in my hands. But it is very neat how poweful these cordless tools are now. I also have the older dcg412 20v one and it is a decent little grinder but I'd guess it's runtime is not nearly as efficient as this power detect one. How much runtime did you get outta that 8ah?
i have the 60v grinder and i love mines i use my for tile and use for finish carpentry for coping trim
im a welder , i do residential more thaN comercial and sometimes we need to cut 1 piece or grind something really quick and run extension cord outside the house we work for 1 cut is not worth it , cordless grinder comes really handy . we do use corded grinders at the shop
I just ordered one with the double 6ah battery and the tool , charger and carry bag for under 281.
I'm glad I made the leap and look forward to picking it up tomorrow.

Lured me in with don't buy this tool and finished it off with Vince being impressed by the features and power it offers. On board tool storage for that allen wrench should of been thought through by Dewalt though.

Dont need it the nut never locks had my 54v one for 3+yrs and given it a thrashing and it has not locked on hard enough for me need the wrench😅

My favorite thing about dewalt 20v and 60v flexvolt grinders are there guards and there guard lock system as well as the locking collate
Great grinder, I am really impressed with the power for this grinder, I think you should try the Milwaukee 9" grinder as well since they claim it has 15 amp power for corded model, it would be great to see if it really has that power.
I love using this tool at the junk yard and in my shop. Saves time and gets the job done but that 8ah battery is required or it dies fast
You definitely need this! I have an old 20v and use it constantly on the job. dragging 100ft or more of cords around is what is useless.
I use my 60 volt grinder pretty regularly. It's like being able to carry around a small chop saw. I thought you had to cut something off here they're not a big deal I don't have to run a ton of chords. I could use a sawzall most of the time but the grinder does a better job.

I just bought the flathead version i really like it so far. I had this one it had to go out for a repair. Its been out for almost 5 months do to the pandemic. Great tool
So I purchased this tool about a month ago on a whim because it was on sale. I've needed one in the past but had no immediate need for it, just wanted to have it in my toolbox. Wasn't 2 days later my friend got stranded when his boat trailer broke down on the side of the road. He needed to replace a leaf spring and all the bolts were rusted to bad to remove without cutting. This tool did it supper fast and I didn't have to bring a generator with me.
The cordless grinders are good for quick jobs. I have a ryobi brushed one. It’s ok for light/quick work. I used it a couple of times to sand down screws that were sticking out. It worked good. Nice to not have to deal with the hassle of a cord.
Also for grinder safety I was always taught the wheel goes up. This way if it turns on the wheel is less likely to touch something and send the grinder flying. Cause putting it face down like that could have the disc rest on something and damage the disc.

i have 2 dewalt 20v grinders the older ones and i really like them I'm a blacksmith and when i go demo i can use them to brush up my work where there is no power and in my shop I'm not restricted with cords and tripping on them its a safety advantage for me
I have this tool because it came with a large dewalt set i purchased... i never would of purchased it on its own. But after using it very impressed even with the 20.volt battery. Now that i have one i wouldnt go without one. And i have 2 other cordless grinders already
Being a millwright a cordless grinder out in the field is my go to. Shop.. corded grinder. For big stuff I start the welder jenny up and use my 15 amp grinder
I woke in waterproofing and install flashing so yes this tool is very good and super useful. Yes there are snips but thicker metal calls for grinder cuts
I work with metal on the feel and this tool help save time when it comes to remove old hinges or cutting a plate for a repair etc. it works great for o me!

The only thing I use my m18 grinder for is with a sanding disc for coping my trim instead of using a jigsaw.

Electrician/Solar contractor. For me a cordless is a must. The good safety and ease od use is a must for me. It's too complicated to work/grind on the roof for example with the cords all over your place just waiting to catch your foot. I'm also working with aluminium all the time, so no problem with the power
P.S.: i have the dcg406 - looks exactly the same. Never used the disarm key- the locking mechanism works perfectly - turn the lock and then turn the whole wheel little bit to be sure it's locked. To unlock first turn wheel, then the lock knob. No need to use the dismantling key

Im left without an angle grinder after my black and decker corded angle grinder gave up the ghost after years of faithful service. I was going to buy another corded grinder but i think im going for the dewalt cordless grinder as i already have the charger and batteries that came with my DCF899 impact gun
This tool is extremely useful and I do need it.. why? I work on scaffolding sometimes 4 story's in the air often on buildings without any power.. I need to cut material such as steel starter strip and vinyl shakes, which this tool equipped with a segmented Dimond blade does extremely well.
when i worked at my job at Griffen i got one so i didn't have to drag 200 foot of cord around for a quick minute to five-minute job. cut a bolt, or cut a clamp on a hose. or other small jobs. but in such a nasty place it stopped working need to open it apart and see if it was just a fuse or not mine was a Dewalt DC410, hated it when it stopped but luckily I had an impact that used the same battery, so I got to use the battery for it and all the extra parts to my corded Dewalt grinder i got used at a pawn shop for 25 bucks
I do own the cordless DeWalt grinder and seriously it’s a great tool , as a maintenance operator the ability to move around and grind things with out a cord is great !👍🏻

You had me spooked at the beginning of your video. For I'm a plumber and have been using an early model DeWalt cordless grinder for around 2 yrs now. For cutting 2,3,4 inch cast iron now and then. And I am able to cut two 4 inch cast iron pipe before the battery is drained . Also must leave battery to cool before charging. ( It's hot)

I use the cordless grinder with a diamond masonry blade. And yes it does use batteries like they are 1991 12 volt Black and Decker batteries. As a bricklayer doing alot of tuckpointing, chimney and just masonry repairs. Cords and generators are not always efficient for us. So we do use the cordless grinder quite often. The Hilti brand grinder has the better battery life, (that I use at my union job) but for side work I use my dewalt DCG413 and its not the best for what I need it for but it gets the job done.
How fast does it go through batteries? I am assuming it would be a good idea to have at least two 8ah batteries for this tool.
Do you know if its worth puchasing it over the dcg413, I have the dcg413 and it preforms great no bog down etc
Due to what I’m doing I can’t bring a generator around, id sure like to, but I can’t. So chordless tools are needed if I don’t wanna do it by hand. I work alone and I’m constantly relocating, taht and my car can’t take a genorator

Gabriel Buss my brother does occasional HVAC ducting in an occupied building. Running cords out of doorways to cut metal outside, with employees walking over the cord, is not the safest. Battery operated is what he uses no matter which site he is at.

This is an awesome time to be in business with all the tool choices we have. I thank God for this channel to help me decide what tool would work best for me. Been trying to get our company to buy one of these since the back end of last year, but it seems like the form we sent to get the OK was sent but no reply came back, anyhow things are a little screwed up as of current with Covid 19 and it's disruptions.
But this is like all cordless tools ideal for working in a area , were kids are also present , were long cables present a risk or can or could be damaged .
I have such a job for this tool for a large but now old Kindergarten recreation area , were I need to replace or sand old round wooden areas .so a tool like this for both cutting old rusted bolts or for sanding away damaged wooden surfaces would be far better that my current setup using a 25+ meters of heavy outdoor extension cables .
It's an amazing fact to think we have such high load tools now without cables and with a useful operating time between charges.

I have it its nices just make sure u have a battery 4ah or bigger i just got a 6.0 20/60volt and boy its now a monster before i was using it with 2ah for small projects now i can do big projects
i don't own very many tools, but from the information that i have gathered, batteries are great until they get beat around a bit. i had a battery powered die grinder that got dropped once and stopped working, then i have a corded one that has survived 2 years of being dropped, submerged, buried, and overheated. still works perfectly! cords are the way to go.
I have that grinder and use my 2ah batterys for small time cuts and its nice and light weight y recently bought a 20/60volt 6.0 battery for it and boy this battery last alot

That was one of the reasons why I purchase the Milwaukee Grindr because the guard is easy to adjust and also the knot has a flip wing which makes it easier to change grinder Wheels there's no more looking for the Fork to unscrew the knot just that Wing up

work in a concrete products factory(slabs kerbs etc) i use hilti cordless grinders and wire brushes. purely because of convenience and safety of not having cables running along the floor
A cordless is also awsome for pipe fitters crawlen around in a rack and our company buys Milwaukee but ours is gutless and it's still handy

I have the DeWalt 20v grinder but not the new power detect.
For my personal use, i do like the fact i don't need a power cord. It has great run time with the new 8.0ah or 6.0ah battery. I'm not a machine shop so i don't use it as much but nice to have this tool when you really need it.
I have to say i also like the Makita 18v disk grinder. For me It has a better handle grip then the dewalt and milwaukee. Plus it has the push (on / off) button which i like more then the paddle style. Only con, It doesn't have the disk break.

I use my cordless grinder out in the field regularly. I can't drag a generator with me and we dont always have temp. Power. I love corded tools in my shop but cordless is s godsend in the field.
I work for Dewalt I use a 60v grinder when I fabricate metal worked that grinder for a 10 hour shift never had to change the battery awesome so I bought one for my shop at home guys if you need something that will make your life easier this the tool you need to make money with you will be impressed I'm lucky I get to put these tools to the test I'm happy to say I'm getting more of the dewalt tools
On the junkyard i often go, they don't let anyone to use the power. Even if they did, what can i do if the junk i want to cut is 100 meters away? Extension cord? Generator? Forget about it. So yes, there are definitely a place for the cordless.
What about grinding in or around the farm.? I own the flat head and the flexvolt
I love this grinder. Grinding out mortar joints for chimney flashing, it's been the best
I do grinding almost all day in manufactering, and being cordless means that I can work more easily without a stupid cord in the way and also cordless grinders have brakes so they make my work faster when I have to change the wheel.

Used it to cut the anchor chain off. I was in my row boat (no power)and It was tied around my ankle. My wife loves when I nap, lol

I’m a welder/millwright having a battery powered grinder is a godsend when you are 40+ feet up in the air straddling I beams. It used to be such a pain in the ass to run a cord to the lift and have 60+ feet of cord being dragged behind you when you work. The safety factor is a big part of that too. No cord for anyone to run into or get caught on. Iv had one to many occurrences of a grinder being ripped out of my hands after someone runs it over with a lift. All and all this is a great tool for those who really need it. If you are a shop worker and have access to outlets then stick with the corded. It will save you time and money. If you have no power source then you can’t go wrong with it.
have the new 998 hammer drill with the 8 amp batt Hope they are better than the 5 amp, just had another one take a dump Off shore cs said oh so sorry out of warranty unless you have receipt! Thinkin real serious of switching to red
