Why Global Military Spending Is On The Rise

- Опубликовано: 25 авг 2019
- Global military spending reached a post-Cold War high of $1.8 trillion in 2018 according to the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute. The Swedish-based think tank has published widely sited global spending numbers since the 1960s. Is the world entering a new era of great power conflict?
The United States (41%) and China (14%) - the world's two biggest military spenders - played a major role in driving 2018′s spending to new heights. Countries throughout the Asia-Pacific region have taken notice of China's nearly two decade push and upped their spending.
The U.S. “war on terror” helped increase global spending after the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks, but started to taper off around 2011 as the United States faced internal budget pressures and war fatigue. But in 2018, the U.S. began increasing spending once again as the national security focus shifted from terrorism to the rise of China and resurgence of Russia.
While Russia did not increase spending in 2018, the country did complete an expensive military modernization in 2016. President Vladimir Putin’s snatching of Crimea, the destabilization of Ukraine, and election meddling have also helped push spending up in former Soviet states like Poland, Latvia, Lithuania and Romania.

When you invest in a new hammer, everything starts to look like a nail.

You answer the question by the content itself : Bunch of biased media like you and CNN are spreading the anxiety and terror.
So is fox news

Why Can't People Just Drink Some Whiskey Together and Stop With The Ongoing Conflicts
Terminator is a documentary of the future. SkyNet is inevitable !!!!
Here's the reasons, I think:
1) unresolved geopolitical conflicts (like Kashmir)
2) New Cold Wars (China vs USA and Iran vs Saudi Arabia)
3) New military technology is getting more expensive. A lot of it is complex, takes time, lots of people, lots of resources and lots of testing.
4) The US military-industrial complex makes, at least the USA, always spend on it

This is exactly why I DID NOT RE-ENLIST ACTIVE
blk pocah that’s fine plenty more fresh private’s to come get this tricare and big green weenie :)
What a great loss for the military!
Where will they find more idiots to use as meat shields against enemy bullets?
The military requires educated and smart officers who are also scholar warriors. It already has plenty of bimbos like you.

Hi CNBC, you guys showed a footage of Taiwan in 7:37 when the dude's talking about Vietnam.
The chart you showed at the beginning had world military spending plateauing since 2008. US spending has plateaued since 2010, which puts it behind inflation.
Misleading title.
Also super sonic missiles are very easy to shoot down. They are also prohibitively expensive. More a set piece than an actual practical missile system.
I like how when China and everyone else is being discussed it's straight up horror movie music and Star spangled music when US is the biggest spender of Arms race lol
Shah Ali Faizan as they say Third time is a charm
In fact, China and US are spending equally. It's all about difference between iPhone and Xiaomi
Exactly, for every dollar China spends on its military budget, they are receiving way more value than for every dollar the US spends. If you think about it, their returns are similar.

Jeez just buy a cooking oil for 20$ there is no need to start war at Walmart

We spend more on violence rather than peace, we all want to be in power, that we forget what we have. Search for peace and equal existence not war amongst yourselves.
Sorry, but thats not how the world works.
There will always be psychos playing monopoly with the earth as their board, people and ressouces as their money and regions as their real estate.
Life is, has been and will always be pay to win and if you don't pay through your nose to win, then you have already lost.

"conflict is the naturally state of man"
“But like a virus, always residing in you, war came again, always war. Humans fighting humans. . .” ~ Cortana - Halo Legends
No matter how hard we try. War will always be humanities hobby. Climate change is no threat. War is. And I’d feel safer if the U.S Military was not led by another Obama, and had every soldier equipped with a completed version of the Talos Exoskeleton, while engaging terrorists instead of funding them like Obama had us do. I feel safer with America gunning down Terrorists, then letting any terrorist live, it’s too bad we have one in our country still.
Good business...some economy survives only this sale of defence equipment..
in Rus yes. We have oil and some soviet planes))
People forget that $1 billion dollars of invest in USA is not the same in China, in China $1billon represents many times more.

i see another recession , jobless , poverty and the rise of misery to the next level.
I am laughing at these comments saying "Why can't we be friend", reality is if any leader says this all will laugh at him, saying we are more powerful, we are more powerful, we doesn't need you.😂🤷♂️
What's the name and artist of this song? It's freaking awesome.
It's like doing a handshake with a chad, he will squeeze harder, so to stop your hand from being crushed into powder, you squeeze harder too, he does the same, and before you know it, you're stuck in a stalemate where neither one of you can let go first or your hand will be crushed.

More military spending = less freedom you have.
How so?
Zero spending and we are all free is that it?
I see no correlation there.
More Chinese brain washed drones spouting propaganda
yeh until china attacks hong kong or taiwan and they have 0 freedom
It just a show of force. Nobody going to fight big war here.
The way Taiwan became free is completely wrong. Frist, The official name of Taiwan is Republic Of China. The way Taiwan became "free" is the Chinese civil war in the 1927 to 1950 when the people's liberation army fought the nationalists. It ended up with the republic of China to be kicked out of main land China to be stuck in Taiwan. There is no formal treaty between the PRC and the Republic of China (Taiwan). Also, for a while Taiwan's diplomats got to go to UN meetings because a ton of anti-communists (usa) did not want the PRC in UN meetings
