The Shivering Isles DLC for the Elder Scrolls: IV Oblivion is my favourite DLC for the Elder Scrolls series of games, and here's why. Support me on / avarti
What I would have liked is if Mehrunes Dagon and/or Mankar Camoran would recognize the player as Sheogorath if the player finishes the DLC before meeting them.
When I first got the DLC I actually started a new character to experience it, so yeah that would of been so much more convenient and a nice touch for players who did the same thing.
@@leaflizard8485 Also, in the "Blood of a Daedra" quest to open a portal to Mankar's Paradise, there should be a patched option to just offer up some of your own blood if you've completed Shivering Isles and become the new Mad God. And, of course, have a line of shock and surprise from Martin. 😄 **Edit:** Oh, and it would be cool if all the other Princes in their own Daedric quests acknowledged you are Sheogorath and no longer just a mortal. They might express concern as to why Sheogorath would be wanting to do a quest for them, but then again he has done stranger things in the past, so it's not out of the ordinary for the Prince of Madness.
The whole concept of the Shivering Isles was nothing short of amazing. Both Mania and Dementia are breathtaking in terms of landscape and its inhabitants. I’ve never seen anything quite like it. The lead designer, Mark Nelson, truly wanted to give us a new realm to explore and achieved it. Also, there’s so little known about Jyggalag so it was a real treat to play a dlc with the daedric prince as its antagonist. Not to mention the champion of Cyrodiil undergoes freaking apotheosis and becomes daddy Sheogorath. I’ll always rave about this dlc and go back to it from time to time. Great video!
Seriously. I always play shivering isles as the endgame because it's the best note to end an Oblivion campaign on. I always have a headcanon that with the world saved my hero kinda feels unfulfilled until he hears about the gate in Niben Bay, enters it and then essentially never goes back to Cyrodil
Shivering Isles was amazing because it very ingeniously utilized the jankiness, weird animations, bad acting, bugs and unintentional Campiness of the game's dialogue to depict the realm of the mad god. All of a sudden the weird interactions NPCs have with each other aren't so out of place anymore and are just as funny. It also had good quest design and lore. My only wish is that you got some choice in the matter and could choose to help jyggalag instead.
Do you guys remember at E3 a few years ago, I think they announced Far Harbour that year, when one of the casters said something like, "This is the biggest DLC since Skyrim's Shivering Isles."? That's some professional journalism right there.
Absolutely. For me it's Dead Money from FNV. Which is funny because so many people hated it initially but the tonal shift was tremendous. Basically a horror game DLC for a Fallout game
Teddy Parker im going to be honest I didn’t finish dead money I did every other dlc personally honest hearts is my favorite. The horror aspects of dead money just didn’t work for me I love new Vegas to death but dead money is just a part I won’t play
Some of my favorite moments in gaming history bring me back to the Shivering Isles. The first time the room where you meet Haskill dissolves in to butterflies which open up in the incredible sky. The first time you walk between the borders of Dimentia and Mania, one side looking like a Tim Burton movie and the other side looking like...a different Time Burton movie. And of course the first time I punched Sheogorath in the nose. He dropped me from so high. So very high. Shivering Isles was meant to make gamers love it.
And it basically began the era of creating quality DLC in earnest. Which is funny because horse armor was kind of the first nickel and dime the player DLC we had too lol.
My friend actually got the game of the year edition and never knew about the shivering isles. On his first character he was like level 5 and ended up committing a lot of crimes in Brazil. Stole a horse, killed some people, that sort of thing. Eventually he got chased into the Niben Bay by guards and just HAPPENED to swim directly to the gate to the Shivering Ilses. He hadn't even gotten the auto quest marker yet; he had no idea it was an expansion. He went inside the gate and saw that the bounties were separate, so he decided to stay until he could pay off his bounty. His mind was fucking blown. He Eventually completed the expansion before he went back. He was like, "damn is there shit like this everywhere?"
Shivering Isles also added to the TES lore and (arguably) made Sheogorath one of the more fleshed out characters in the series. It's also what made the character so popular. That said, I wouldn't give the Mournhold DLC too much criticism for it's story. It made sense to make it as it was, because it gave closure for the remaining Tribunal members, whom you don't see in the base game. My only criticism is that you couldn't leave the city. It would've been pretty cool to see a bit more of -Vvardenfell- Morrowind, if even just a few villages and scenery beyond the gates. But I (personally) give it a pass due to the limitations at the time. I liked the Dawnguard DLC but it was pretty basic. I really enjoyed the exploration of the Falmer and their ruins and felt like they should've made a seperate DLC for that and replaced The Vale with a more fleshed out Soul Cairn. So we'd get 3 large DLCs - Dragonborn, Dawnguard and (insert name) Falmer DLCs.
i think dragon born is a little better because shivering isles kinda felt boring. Like very little towns and it was a bitch to navigate. The stories are on par but the shivering isles is much better to look at.
Stevie Nines the land isn’t as interesting though. Also not a lot of interesting characters there. There’s Neloth, and the rieklings at thirsk mead hall, which I personally find interesting.
Couldn't agree more with every argument you made. I've always used Shivering Isles as a monumental example of what/how to flesh out a DLC. It's part of Oblivion but could easily have been a stand alone game in its own right
I randomly thought of shivering isles after not playing this game for long years and I immediately KNEW I would find a video like this. I was not disappointed.
I recently played through Morrowind + DLC again. I have to say, the massive focus on restrictive sewer environs really hurt Tribunal for me, but the closure on the Tribunal, the cool city, intensely OP boss enemies to challenge high level characters and the sweet loot elevates it. I would say i overall preferred bloodmoon though in Morrowind. Shivering isles is above Tribunal for me.
I'd say that a contributing factor to the success of The Shivering Isles is how it takes full advantage of the at times bizarre behaviour of Oblivion NPCs. Their stiff walking, sudden turns and weird facial expressions that all too often don't match the situation. For instance, if you were to attack Uriel Septim at any point then he would scowl in between his friendly lines making him seem deranged. In The Shivering Isles this seems a natural extension of their madness.
I’d love for the next Elder Scrolls to have a Questline where the player character becomes THEIR OWN Daedric God rather then mantling an already existing one (kind of like the Mannimarco becoming the God Of Worms).
ReAL passw0rd thot destroyer we don’t know what Mannimarco’s fate is, the one we saw die could’ve easily have been some random Necromancer that thought he was a top dog or (and this is the theory I subscribe to) we saw the Mortal Mannimarco die while the God one is still around (Dragonbreaks are confusing and that’s why I love them).
I despised the Shivering Isles when I first played it way back in the day. But that was after a grueling slog through the base game and came a couple of weeks after I had beat the main quest. (think I still have the CD even) But now... Now I'm rushing through the main campaign after doing everything else just to get back to Mania. I'm really enjoying the thought of how people live in the realm of Sheogorath. People live mostly as they do on Nirn, but with more madness. And outsiders who have not received the 'Blessing' of Sheogorath can actually live many years there before succumbing to the madness. It has caught my interest much like Falkreath and the Rift have in Skyrim. Imagining the kind of life my character could lead in certain places. It's very fun.
This DLC is what convinced me to buy tes iv oblivion in the 1st place, i mean the core game had some treats like the dark brotherhood, but the shivvering isles dlc had just so much to explore and so many neat eastereggs in them, it was just far more interresting and most importandly FUN. also Sheogorath was just a treat every time you talked to or attacked him.
I used to really enjoy playing oblivion but when i started this dlc i actually couldn't put my controller down, all the quests were just so fun and intringuing ! The npcs are all hilarious and you actually get to like them, especially Sheogorath himself
oblivion and it’s dlc will always have my heart. the beautiful design and the feeling it gives u as u play is in its own league. i didn’t love skyrim, i loved oblivion
After the more conservative Oblivion, they obviously wanted to bring back the Morrowind feeling with Shivering Isles. Morrowind simply had the most diverse world. A piece of Morrowind was also brought back in Skyrim with Solstheim.

I wholeheartedly agree, this DLC is bloody incredible compared to every other DLC in the Elder Scrolls Series, I love Sheogorath and I truely believe this DLC should've been a while new Elder Scrolls game by itself, it was dope as Oblivion mate! 😂💙💙
The funny thing is that Shivering Isles wasn't popular at first. I was going around saying it was the best DLC ever, and others were disagreeing with me online. Nowadays, it seems to be everyone' favorite. People are weird.
Bethesda on the elder scrolls 6 “pay us 50 dollars a month to play the gold version of the game.It allows you to buy our 100 dollar dlc that includes horse armor, a mud crab follower, and another copy of Skyrim!” Preorder your elder scrolls gold today and will have it functional a year after you’ve bought it. Oh and don’t forget creation club because who wants free mods.
Hello or good evening, I don't know if anyone can help me, but in Oblivion, I remember that on the island of the mad king, there was a masked character with a kind of spade who went up and he was dressed in white and a purple dress could someone help me please. His armor was kinda like white crystals kinda like what's in the garden on the mad king's island he was doing lightning attacks if I remember correctly
Cocaine..? Cocaine makes you pretty normal in comparison to the grand scheme of drugs. Mushrooms? LSD? That would have been better. You sound like you never left your house.
Why not base ES6 off of this expansion? Since the player becomes Sheogorath, who has split from...I won't spell his name, there's now a power imbalance, and one would naturally want to reclaim their power. Especially the Daedric Prince of Order. It could very well lead to the main story having that kind of grandiosity we've been itching for, and have a neat twist where you get to meet the player character from the Oblivion days.
The Champion of Cyrodill A Blades' Knight A Knight of The Order of the Dragon Becoming... A daedric prince ?... I'm not sure i want to do Shivering Isles in the same save file 😶
When ranking DLC or expansions here's what my list would be in my personal opinion 1. Dawnguard 2. Shivering Isles 3. Dragonborne 4. Knights of The Nine 5. Tribunal- eventhough its more of an expansion to Morrowinds base story 6. Bloodmoon I'm not really counting the Hearthfire because pretty much that's just the ability to buy property and make player houses I'm looking at things that contribute to the story of the overall game
I watch a streamer playing this DLC and i fucking buy Oblivion and play it Before, i kinda lack of interest to play Oblivion, i still think Skyrim was better in term of gameplay Greatest decision ever
Back when Bethesda gave a fuck about the game rather than the bottom line. Turns out of you make a dope game that bottom line is handled at the same time.
The only bad thing about this dlc is that it could create a plot hole. If u finish the main Shivering isles quest before going to a village where sheos daedric quest takes place, then taking that quest will end up in an awkward hole of u talking to yourself and giving yourself wabbajack Well I guess it could make sense if you’re a daedric prince of madness ;)
I played shivering isles with the same degenerate and perhaps genius character I always spam the comments with. I did this with rape mods whilst setting it to "anyone can rape anyone in battle". Funniest experience I ever had. Right up until it backfired on me and the final boss decided he wanted some ass in the middle of the fight... Last save was 5 hours back so I had no choice but to lie there and take it. Ever since then I've been too afraid to play knights of the nine.
Heart of Stone and Blood and Wine are still the greatest dlc's I've ever played, but the Shivering Isles is a strong contender for 3rd IMO. What a fantastic DLC, and I hope Bethesda introduce one that can match it in ES6.
Probably but they did a good adaptation. You see a lot of developers taking inspiration from other works but you don't often see it done so well. Shame Bethesda is heading into a pit of no return
i can't deny that. I did love the shivering isles and yeah it is a shame. they chose the absolute worst time in gaming history to start being money grubbing cunts. gamers are getting sick of microtransactions and live service garbage and yet Bethesda thinks now's the best time to jump on the bandwagon. they could have had all the gooodwill from the community and all the money if they just kept doing what they were good at. Shameful indeed.
You'll have to stop now you're making me sad. Maybe Obsidian will be our shining beacon of hope. But that means the elder Scrolls has effectively had it's day. We're not allowed nice things
Oblivion is a decent DLC for Elderscroll 4: Shivering Isles.
Yeah it was alright, I only spent a few hours in that DLC, but I have hours in the main game!
Ouch
What I would have liked is if Mehrunes Dagon and/or Mankar Camoran would recognize the player as Sheogorath if the player finishes the DLC before meeting them.
Azminek kinda like how if you become the mad god first then do his daedric quest second. If you haven’t done it, try it out and see what happens.
Dagon, Camoran: What the fxxk
Champion of Cyrodiil: 🤪 looooooooool
When I first got the DLC I actually started a new character to experience it, so yeah that would of been so much more convenient and a nice touch for players who did the same thing.

It wasn't intentional
@@satanamogila9251 It kind of was. The madness of SIs denizens seemed to play off the weird dialogue system.
If you helped Jyggalag you would have died... that's why Sheogorath tells the player to piss off back to Cyrodiil.
If you would have helped Jyggalag then that is a entirely new story and lore breaking.

I'd say that a contributing factor to the success of The Shivering Isles is how it takes full advantage of the at times bizarre behaviour of Oblivion NPCs. The only bad thing about this dlc is that it could create a plot hole. If u finish the main Shivering isles quest before going to a village where sheos daedric quest takes place, then taking that quest will end up in an awkward hole of u talking to yourself and giving yourself wabbajack
Well I guess it could make sense if you’re a daedric prince of madness ;)
Definitely my favourite Elder Scrolls DLC by far.
Pretty sure this is widely considered as one of the best expansion packs of all time.
Saa-WEET-ROOOOLL!
This dlc was cheaper, and better than Fallout 76
And had more content
I enjoyed the Morrowind "Expansions" just as much... but it can't be denied that Shivering Isles doesn't have amazing charm.
I guess you're allowed to say this because Bloodmoon and Tribunal are not technically DLC
Well they could technically be DLC even though they're just expansions to the game blood moon for sure is classified as a DLC.
@@ghostwarrior3878 Shivering Isles is an expansion, as well, though.
@@H41030v3rki110ny0u I was merely expressing my opinion on blood moon in tribunal I understand Shivering Isles is a DLC
Oblivion will always be my favorite Elderscrolls game.
quick answer: Sheogorath
Some of Bethesda’s best work have been the weird DLCs for their games like Shivering Isles, Mothership Zeta, Nuka World
Yes it rly is to this day imo
it is
Ni ni ni ni ni ni
let's be honest they ripped off the Grove of reflection from ocarina of times water temple..

Was he trying to say "milieu...?"
Tl;dr: CHEESE FOR EVERYONE! (rarely you get to work for a madman in his own mad world).
I guess bloodmoon isn't technically a dlc. But that is my favorite expansion story.
