Man you broke my heart... I had a Prado V6 4.0 for 11 years from showroom. 11 years of smooth operation, no problem whatsoever. I was crying like a baby when I sold it for relocation. LOVE !!! LOVE !!! LOVE that truck!!!

A 2007 prado at mileage of 117k, he can still sell it at $30000. Thats how valuable this cars are in africa.

I own a 2010 Prado (the model that was released after the one showed in the vid) with 400000 kms on the odo, it was for my mom and she just handed it to me at the beginning of the year for uni (first car). It's a bit more luxurious than the one in the video, I have 4 cameras, hydraulic suspension that lifts the car 5 cm, 2 locking differential (standard), all time 4wd and a cruise control radar, it was a lot of car for its amount back in 2010 (62,000$), it actually has more features than my dad's middle trimmed 2011 Land Cruiser 4.6L V8... We loved it so much that my parents replaced it with a 2017 Lexus GX460 (it surprisingly only has one locking differential). You can tell by our cars how much we like Toyota products lol

How reliable is this hydraulic rear axle? I like the feature and one day I am considering LC150.
Waldemar Ishibashi the hydraulic suspension never failed and don't think will ever fail or show any faults. You can check out Hoovies Garage's 1998 Lexus LX with the exact same system which still works. Just one thing that I have realized with all Land Cruiser and LX models is that if you live somewhere hot, the car will lean to the side that you turn it and will take some time to adjust (1-15 minutes depends on the turn and the temperature).

I was neither more or less smart when I bought and sold Toyotas. My F150 had been more reliable and cost less than my Taco. If anything I'm smarter now.

The car number plate format on this Toyota is the same format used in the UK from 1963 to 1983. A UK car with that plate would have been registered in 1965.

The Prado is a great SUV! I am a proud owner of 2005 GX470 Lexus, which is essentially Prado. The rear door side opening and the 3 seats on the 3rd row that stow were the selling points to me. This car is truly an engineering excellence in every aspect: attention to detail, functionality and it looks good. Thanks for making the video.

I have had mine since new in 2004. Only issue was the starter motor about 6 months ago. 20 years of brilliant driving.

Thanks for the video. I myself live in Africa and the Toyota Landcruiser is THE SUV by excellence. Toyota is probably number one in Africa because of the reliability of its models. I appreciate the fact that you have a petrol engine which is not so common for such a big vehicle. I think your Landcruiser Prado has an automatic transmission.

Excellent video. The Prado is sold with the 4.7 V8, here in the US. This motor is the best power plant for this model, excluding fuel consumption. Named the Lexus GX470 for United States, Prado for the rest of the world in 2008.

Love the J120 Prado. We have the Lexus GX470 which is the Prado prettied up and uses the 4.7 V8 (2uz-fe). But we also have the fj cruiser which uses that 4.0 v6 (1GR-FE). Love them both. 270k miles on the fj and 217 on the GX. And both are offroaders

Old mate must've forgot about the 3.4L V6 that came before Toyota's 4L V6. The 3.4L was thr petrol option for those that didn't want the 3.0L turbo diesel 1KZ-TE engine in the late '90s/early '00s.

Perfect timing, Scotty! I have a 2007 GX470 (essentially the same as the Prada only with 4.7 V8) with 160K. Sadly, I was considering getting rid of it for a newer car. After watching this, I think I’m keeping it!!!

magellanmax Those were probably the ones that were built like tanks back in the 60’s and 70’s. They were pretty good back then. You take a new one off road and you can kiss it goodbye.
I have a prado 120 series, and i love it.
Looks like our Lexus GX460 but with a 4 Runner 4.0L V6.
My 120 series v6 just clicked over to 280 000 km. Just normal services and replaced one rear oxygen sensor. Also added a bull bar..suspension lift..snorkel..roof rack etc. for over landing. Not selling it ever.

I was wondering when you were gonna feature one of these! I have a 2006 Lexus GX470 (same as Prado but just in US) and I love it. It has the 4.7L V8 though. It Guzzles gas and changing the timing belt is a PITA but I can't argue with the torque it gets. I will be taking mine to Moab soon as it is right down the road from me, perhaps I should film it and see if I make it on one of these videos? I know my other car, a 1988 Toyota Corolla, has a good shot at making it on these too! Lol keep up the great videos Scotty!
The engine shown here is the 1GR found in the Four runner. lt runs a timing chain and mostly maintaince free.

they are the same car with the exception of luxury extras. people in the US are actually lucky to be able to buy a used Prado/GX470 at great price, while a similarly equipped used 4runner is a few thousand more.
Personally, I would prefer the 3.0Ltr Turbo Diesel with a manual transmission. The torque kick as the turbo spools and rowing the gears yourself makes the whole drive more joyful than the other NA Petrol engine options provided.
I drive the Lexus version (gx) and it's really cool to see the similarities and differences between them (mines also a 2007)
I have a 84 Toyota Land cruiser FJ 60, with 350,000 miles. It keeps on running. Awesome and very well built

Nice truck... I have a 98' 3rd-gen 4runner and pretty much love everything about it... Just clocked 165K with the
3.4LT V6, runs perfect and except for a gel-coat paint issue on the hood and a little on the roof, it's a great truck...

Mine has done 280km with no issues at all. Fuel tank is 180L so can go anywhere without stopping

I love the 4.0 v6. The one problem is the engine block cannot be rebuilt.

Racer's Line , most of the new car manual says you don't have to change the fluid at all. Although, I would change every 100k mile or 160k km

I just saw a Chevy Malibu race a 4runner, both going 70+ mph on a very lumpy intersection, car went airborne for a split second, lost control and ended up on a school property. Smh. Thank God I was in no rush to get on the road. Toyota suspension

A slightly more affordable version of the regular Land Cruiser, the Prado. Seen those in Costa Rica & I thought the looked somewhat familiar. It is sold as the Lexus GX in the USA.

if you need a car that can serve you for 15 years plus get a landcruiser, this car is so tough, its the official goverment car, you ain't seen worse roads than Africa, I think the only car that beats this is a mercedes g class

Even though the Prada carries the land cruiser name, it is actually based off of the 4 runner/ gx 400 platform. So it’s not a real land cruiser, still a beast though
