Right now is the best time to buy a new Subaru

  • There are multiple reasons why I feel right now is the best time to buy a new Subaru. The end of the month and end of the year is probably the best opportunity to get a deal on a new car. Dealers and manufactures are incentivized to sell as many cars as they can before month end and of also before the end of the year to reach bonuses and ear more cars for future inventory. Subaru also just recently reduced the interest rates on the 2024 Subaru Outback model, so if you're looking specifically for an Outback this is a great time to buy. Other Subaru models have also seen special financing offers during this time.
We've struggled with inventory for the last few years, and while we're not at full capacity, we're starting to get more options to choose from. This means we have more models, trim levels, and colors to choose from than before. It also gives you leverage as a customer when trying to negotiate. If a dealership has the car you want (or multiple) on the lot, you may have an opportunity to get a discount on a in-stock car. We're no longer limited to just special orders. Lastly, the new year means new models/redesigns. As an example, the 2025 Forester was just released with a new design and many people still aren't sure if the like it. If you don't like the look of the new model year or the new features, it would be best to purchase the existing 2024 model while you can.
I hope this video helps provide insight and clarity for those looking for a new Subaru. Comment below with any questions you have!

I traded in my 2020 Crosstrek Premium for a 2024 one two weeks ago today. Was given a pretty good deal. Got a good trade in value and interest rate. My monthly payment did go up but only by about $100, which was offset a little since my insurance rate actually went down $50.

In California some dealerships offer 3-4k below the MSRP for 2023 Forester which is almost identical with the 2024 model. Subaru offers 48 months finance at 3.9% for the 2023 Forester.

My 2024 Forester is sitting pretty in my garage.
Ordered August 31, took ownership November 16th. ✌🏼
Newer ‘25 are nice looking, but, I’m not saying this to be biased, but I just love the look of the ‘24’s (mine) better.
    Just looks more rugged.
The ‘25’s, albeit look nice, they as far as from a visual (to me) looks like they lost their rugged look for more contemporary.
Which isn’t bad, they will still sell like pancakes.
I just would love to see what they change, visually for the wilderness trim.
I will say, that I’m digging their bronze package.
Those wheels are straight up 🔥.
And those, I believe are ‘19’s.😳

It had $1500 in accessories used to artificially inflate the price as dealers do but they took those off the invoice, plus gave me $500 off MSRP and gave me $8K for my 6 year old NIssan Juke which is what all the various value sites said it was worth. No BS in the F&I department with warranties or anything. I was in and out in 2 hours. Out of 12 cars I have purchased it is tied for the best deal/experience I've ever had.

I was just about to buy an Outback, but Subaru did a great job redesigning the Forester although I'm a little hesitant about the 2.5L powertrain thinking it is underpowered. But it is the right size for me and the Touring trim has all the features I want. So, I'm hoping to wait until spring for it to reach dealerships. Happy Holidays and New Year to you and your beloved.

The 2.5 non-turbo engine has plenty of zip. The Forester does have a 1,500 pound towing limitation and the maximum tongue weight on the hitch is 150 pounds so that is a design weakness. If you want to tow hefty loads, you will need to look elsewhere. I think most people who buy Subaru vehicles do so because it is a very high quality vehicle in other respects.

I leased knowing from inception that I will be buying at the end of the lease, and the cap cost is fantastic. Lowered my monthly payment by nearly $100/month and my insurance stayed exactly the same. Happy with the deal, and simply LOVE the car.

Remember that when you lease and later purchase that vehicle you'll pay multiple dealer service fees that could total approaching $1000 or more (besides doc, title, and miscellaneous fees), i.e., a dealer lease service fee (similar to a new car purchase service fee), the lease acquisition fee, and when you buy the lease, a dealer used car purchase service fee (because buying a lease is to the dealer similar to buying a used car).

Hey, Alex. I JUST picked up my new Outback Touring. Love the car and all of the features. But there's one thing that really is bugging me, and I'm hoping you can verify it and let me know if there's any way I can resolve it. It's the speed-sensitive volume control on the radio. It's not there on this trim! I think this has something to do specifically with the Harman-Kardon head unit, but not sure. Either way, I think it s*cks that this doesn't exist in this trim, as my understanding is that the lower trims have it. Interested in your thoughts. Thanks!

I'm also not a fan of some features, such as auto start/stop and the integration of the controls for the seat heaters into the display instead of easy-to-use dedicated switches, and I'm also not fond of the changed head and tail lights starting in 2019.

Well I kind of jumped the gun by buying a 24 Forester Sport on Nov. 29. I put down a large enough down payment so that I could afford to take the 3 year 4.9% financing and keep the payments reasonable. There seemed to be a lot of Foresters coming in to the Twin Cities (MN) area when I was buying, but they were all still in transit, so I put a few bucks down on a Sapphire model. In the meantime, another dealer began calling me to come in. Short version is that he got into a bidding war to get me away from the other dealer. Which got me another grand off the price at the first dealer. I went with the first dealer because they were easy to work with and 10 miles closer than the other dealer. Right after I bought the Forester, the second dealer called to offer me an additional discount on a Forester that was still in transit. I haven't had the heart to call him back. I need to do that. I don't feel bad about having spent a little more to stay close to home. I've already been back to the dealer a couple times to ask really dumb questions about the tech. I had been driving a car that still had crank windows.
The bidding war was caused by Subaru's "build your vehicle" site. Once you've assembled your wish list, they ask if you want to send it to a local dealer. I sent it to two local dealers just to see what would happen.

Advice anyone?? I have been talking to 3 local dealers and they sure are very interested in my business and seem to be willing to discount although not as much as I'd like...also test drove a Mazda CX-5 locally - incredible deals from Mazda right now (0% interest for up to 5 years!) but I can't seem to get used to the smaller interior of the CX-5. According to Consumer Reports in car electronics are the primary issue with the Outbacks and this could cost thousands if out of warranty. It seems to me if the screen gets "bricked" then no control of heat, A/C, or anything else controlled by the touch screen. Also I don't know if any current or future paywalls come into play for basic systems. I really like my 2015 with physical buttons and port fuel injection and think I should get a Toyota or Mazda sedan and keep the 2015 Outback with 142,000 miles on it.

I agree, my 2015 Premium has Starlink(no active subscription) and for my purposes works very well. However I have physical buttons for the heating, A/C, heated seats, clock, radio on/off. I am not interested in all these extra apps that I would never use or get paywalled.@@eskieman3948

Firstly, I'd like to share my appreciation for you and your videos, as they've really helped me gain the knowledge I needed to inform my Subaru salesperson about the car I wanted to buy from him.
It would be the best time to buy IF dealerships knew when stock would arrive from warehouses where the cars are waiting to sell. I just purchased a 2024 Outback Premier XT, and my salesperson has yet to determine when it will land at his dealership. They really want me to come in and sign all of the paperwork for financing with Toyota, though. "Once they get unloaded from the ship, we can't track them at all.", but Outbacks are assembled in the USA. The ballpark landing time I was given was "maybe this month, but it could be next month." .. the car is in a warehouse 300 km from me. This has been an incredibly frustrating experience that I hope will come to a conclusion soon.

I have a 2021 Forrester which at the time I had to order. I love the vehicle and it only has under 7000 miles on it. I’m a young retired person 59 years old living partly on Social Security disability. We have a lease on the vehicle that comes due in July 2024. Due to the low miles and no maintenance on the vehicle I would like to purchase it from Subaru. Would that be beneficial for me to do? How does Subaru turn around leased vehicles?

It's all about the numbers at the end of the lease. That's when you decide if it makes financial sense to buy your car, or sign another lease for something else.

Depends on the term. You can get as low as 4.9% at 36 months on the 24 Crosstrek. If you go 60-72 you're right, it'll be higher.

What do you think about Subaru’s extended warranty and windshield warranty for used Subaru’s?
I bought it as it seemed worth while compared to other extended warranties I explored. Not sure about the windshield/wheel/ fob warranty even though I bought it anyway.

Congrats! I sold these (and bought them myself) for years. The Subaru Gold Plus VSC is a solid value. Helpful hint: as you approach the mileage or years thresholds invest in an oil change, and mention “my service contract is ending. Can you look out for anything so we can get it covered?” Win Win!

Love that $300 Share The Love charitable contribution Subaru makes for you through year end on a new purchase! ! Note: Year end finance incentives are usually a solid value. About 15 years ago Subaru ended traditional “rebates” as a long-term strategy to keep their vehicle resale values high. Their incentive budget goes to subvented dealer financing! Loving my 2023 Forester Premium that does not have the up coming big screen tv in the dash! Happy Holidays!
