Hey brother I literally am going through exactly what you just covered in this video we have a 2016 pathfinder we just took it in for an oil change and we were told that we had a leak from our transmission took it to a transmission shop they said it’s a transfer case they obviously just want us to get a new one the job calls for about $4500 but that’s not even mentioning like you said that axle so if you have any tips tricks or if I should just did the car all together please let me know cause this video definitely just open my eyes a lot more
Thanks for the video, I'll be tackling this project on my wife's Murano soon. It's leaking transmission fluid internally into the transfer case, which then leaks out of the transfer case from the axle seal. Question - are there any seals at the transmission output that need to be changed as well? Or are there only seals on the transfer case side of things?
@@briangregory4770 from my understanding as far as my memory goes, I think they have a couple seals where the transfer case mates to the transmission. I think there’s two seals that face one N-word and one outward so they have to be placed in that particular order. I wish I would’ve documented all the part numbers necessary for this, but I did not, good luck
GREAT VIDEO. QUICK QUESTION.... IM SEEPING OIL THROUGH THE SEEMS ON BOTH DRIVER AND PASSANGER SIDES. WHERE THE OUTPUT SHAFT SEALS ARE. THE SEALS ARE FINE BUT I DONT KNOW IF THERE ARE ORINGS ON THE INSIDE OR JUST SEALANT BETWEEN THE HOUSING AND THE PLATES THAT BOLT TO THE MAIN HOUSING. MIGHT YOU KNOW BY ANY CHANCE WHAT KEEPS THOSE SEEMS SEALED. THANKS AN ADVANCE.
@@1shorte4wssj21 there’s a chance the systems over full, or the seals are bad and need to be changed out and put a layer of grease on the shaft before you slide them in
@@mechanicdave4899 thanks for reply. if you go to 8:23 of the video you'll see the plug and 4 bolts. that plate "seem" where the 4 bolts are bolted to the main housing is where i have my seepage of oil. i was wondering if i could unbolt the 4 bolts, clean and apply sealant. then bolt it back up or does it have an o-ring inside that seals that seem up. thanks and i dont mean to be a bug lol
Great video and great info. mine is not leaking at those areas yet. but I do see a leak in the back Transfer Case Output Shaft Seal ? where the Yoke connects ? did you happen to replace that seal as well ?
@@mechanicdave4899 for the rear output shaft seal do you think I can just replace it without taking out the transfer case ? by removing the drive shaft and popping open the back and yank out the seal and replace ?
I just need to replace the oil seal that sits behind the dust shield on the RH drive axle, do I need to take all this apart or can I just remove the rh axle and that intermediate bracket?
@@JoyLong you should be able to just pull the axle and do it that way just make sure you don’t hurt the new seal putting it in and make sure you put a good layer of grease on the axle so when you slide it in it’s undamaged
@@mechanicdave4899 Comes to find out that after replacing that seal, it’s actually the transfer case that’s bad, now I need to pull that out and replace all the seals, but my question is when you drain the transfer case, how are you filling it back up? Is there a specific method? Such as filling till full or running the until operating temp and filling again?
I am replacing my cv axle on 2014 pathfinder, the shaft bearing bracket you mention with 4 bolts, apparently its common for that bearing to seize in that bracket, is it possible to get to those 4 bolts just having jack stands? Thank you
Hey bro, I’m working on my 2014 Nissan pathfinder CV axle passenger is there anyway I can get a part number for the outer seal that goes into the transfer case
Dave - the comments are off on your BMW 328D transfer case video so I can't say anything there but I am wondering if your transfer case has given you any issues after adding the Loctite to the splines? I am thinking of getting one and didn't know if that solution is 100% or not. Sorry for the random post on the wrong vid but I didn't know of another way to contact you.
It’s all good. It helped and I have not had any issues. I do change the fluid annually and I use GL-5 diff fluid 85-140 lol little thick, but better than the water they call for.
Hi Dave, please, I need the name or part number for the little "seal" you show at 1:27. I have been trying to get it at the dealership but they dont know what I am talking about. It doesnt show up as a part of the transfer case

Call the Nissan dealership. They’ll ask for the last 8 of the vehicle vin number. That’s the only place you’ll get these harder to get seals bud.

I believe it’s called the output shaft inner and putter seals.
in order to put all the seals that go on the passenger side of transfercase did you have to open up the transfer case?
I think I had to open it for something. I can’t completely remember.
Did you drop the sub
frame?
So sorry I didn’t see this. No sun frame stayed in.
How long did it take
It books for 8 hours. The hardest part is removing the exhaust system. Use heat/map gas and take your time.
@@mechanicdave4899 jesus 8 hours this is a big A$$ job lol
