    You can't judge the quality of a pick set based on the time it takes you to pick a lock - unless you actually know how to pick locks.

    Bro… the fact it takes you 6 minutes to rake a lock with no security pins tells us all we need to know🤣

    The tension rods are different thicknesses.

      Yeah, you can even see it in the video , the red rod is the most thin

    I just ordered this set earlier today! Can't wait to get started in the hobby!
    Edit:....it's been 2 months of use and I still love them. I'm actually about to make some handle/scales for them to make them more personalized to me. They're well worth the money and they only cost me 20 bucks to buy them and have them shipped within 3 days

      What do you use for the handles? I bought the fng awhile back just bent my hook so thinking of upgrading to the genesis lol

    • @brianfreland9065
      @brianfreland9065 7 месяцев назад

      @@ChristiannTyler these will bend if you apply too much pressure but that's all picks. These are definitely a great starting set though. I just used rosin for scales and also used some assorted wood types. I just traced the Handle onto the wood, rough cut ut out, then attatched them and filed and sanded down to the finish I wanted, and then sealed it with a spray sealant

      @@brianfreland9065 awesome how did you go about attaching them?

    I just got a set and these so far feel great. No sharp edges and they’re polished nicely. The magnetic case has been handy sticking to doors while working.

    You got the old school Genesis set like the first one that came out.

    Shrink tubing is a pretty good solution to the handles.
    Unless your set is screwed up, the wiper z bar tensioners are 0.030" Red, 0.040" White and 0.050" Blue. Width in the keyway. The Height in the keyway is the same and usually matters a lot less but one end is shorter than the other on all of them for top of keyway (pin end) use. I find the white works well on Master (M1) keyways for most low end pin tumbler padlocks of any brand in the US and the blue works best on Schlage (SC1/SC4) and KwikSet (KW1/KW5) keyways which covers most low and midrange home and office door locks of any brand in the US. I assume the 0.030" is useful for euro profile locks but you'll the need 0.015" pick set to tackle them. I'd have preferred a 0.045" wiper instead for the 0.025" pick set since you aren't going to be picking euro profiles with them.
    I'd actually consider buying the same pick profiles from Sparrows, instead. Price should be competitive, they have plastidip handles and they'll last a lot longer as they are harder and more springy so they are less likely to get bent with use. If you don't mind spending nearly twice as much, Peterson picks have molded plastic handles that have a nice texture for better grip. All of them should be a huge step up from the cheap chinese import sets you find on Amazon. Sparrows and Peterson both should also be notably more durable than the CI Genesis set. I expected better of LPL but it is really difficult to get that right. I hear SouthOrd are good as well but I haven't tried them.

      For euro profile (paracentric keyways you want 0.8-1mm wide tensioner that's .035 and .040. So, you were not wrong about that. As for the pick gauge I never used my 0.015 (0.4mm) set on a European lock or Euro profile lock. For those I use 0.020 (0.5mm) round hooks, which don't bend that easily, they still have good feedback and lifting the pin isn't as hard as it would be with a 0.015 pick.

    So did you just use the rakes or were you using the tension wrenches and the actual picks??

  • @VAcreeper
    @VAcreeper 9 месяцев назад +1

    I bet his tension was too heavy when raking…. A lot of people think yku need a lot of tension when only slight tension is really necessary

  • @markferguson3365
    @markferguson3365 2 года назад +5

    It could be how much tension you used. Raking requires a very light tension!!!

    Why do you pick the lock with the door open and try to hold onto it? Just close the door and pic it lol

    Mentally pains me to see the door moving and not shut. I just close them, that way I’m forced to pick it open.

    While it was interesting to watch someone try to pick a door lock...
    i don't think you should be picking locks in use. You can damage the lock permanently.
